The Kensington track at Randwick will play host to a nine race meeting on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:20) Ranvet Hcp 1150m
1 California Deeply (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) for me in the opener. Bit of quality about his debut win at Warwick Farm, taking the narrow gap between runners and producing good change up speed to win impressively in a race where the form has been franked. Stable is in form with their juveniles and confident this guy can win again.
2 Fireburn (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) ran a close up fourth in that race mentioned above at Warwick Farm and proved that run had merit to it with a dominant win two weeks ago on the course proper here, albeit in a race where the depth looked thin. Tricky draw, but gets in quite well after the claim.
6 London (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is a son of Capitalist for Chris Waller that is on debut. He has one trial to get ready for start one, which came at Canterbury where he looked to move quite well under J Mac and was impressive in that piece of work. Market will tell you if he’s ready to go.
Race 2. (12:55) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1400m
1 Activation (Bet Now: $18.00 TOP ODDS) has a fair bit on these re class and if he’s right to go, I think he only runs well. Forget the first up run at Wagga. He bombed the start and that sealed his fate when finishing down the track behind Shores Of Avalon. Tick over trial win was a good piece of work. Hopefully can use the inside gate.
2 King’s Trust (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) has found winning form again and I think he can go on with it. Had a decent run of outs but that changed two weeks ago when a strong winner over 1400m at Randwick, just getting the better of Banju in a close go. Terry Robinson is the master of the Highway and I think he’ll get another one here.
Ripping steer from JVO deserved 3 Banju (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) the win at Randwick last time but he just couldn’t quite finish it off when nabbed on the peg by King’s Trust in a very close finish. First up run at Newcastle in a strong race was a beauty so he’s come back super and can take this out for sure.
Race 3. (13:30) Heineken 3 (bm78) 2400m
5 Black Queen (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) has done a ripping job this time in for Chris Waller. Just such a model of consistency. Tried her heart out last Wednesday at Warwick Farm but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Ladylovestogamble. I think she’ll take some beating here.
1 Herman Hesse (Bet Now: $3.20 TOP ODDS) is three weeks between runs for the Maher/Eustace camp since contesting the Christmas Cup on the course proper when attempting to lead throughout and giving a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when outgunned late by Mightybeel. Back to 78 grade, he’s a definite winning chance.
4 Oceanic Flash (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) is racing well for the Ryan/Alexiou camp that should be around the mark yet again. Had a suck run behind the speed at Warwick Farm last time out and had his chance but battled on pretty well in defeat behind Ladylovestogamble. This isn’t a strong race, so he commands respect.
Race 4. (14:05) Midway (bm72) 1100m
3 Prince Invincible (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) can bounce back. Just went way too keen in front two weeks back in the Midway at Randwick and actually didn’t do too bad of a job to stick on for fourth. Just hoping he can harness his energy in front and if that does eventuate, I think he’ll only run well.
6 Budhwar (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) is racing in consistent form for Damien Lane. Scratched from the Midway a couple of weeks ago to be saved for the night meeting at Canterbury the evening before. Attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick under J Mac. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow second to Rhythmic Pulse.
4 He’s Super Lucky (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) can bounce back. Real eye catcher first up at Kembla on Gong Day behind Dragonstone before going to Warwick Farm where he did too much work in the run and tired late. If he brings his effort from the resumption, he’s in with a big shout here.
Race 5. (14:40) The Agency Real Estate (bm78) 1100m
4 Celestine (Bet Now: $5.00) just wins this if she’s anywhere near right, but the market will tell you how forward she is. Quality mare that was formerly with Team McEvoy but now finds herself with Matty Dale. Her form is A1 for a race like this, but the query is no public trial, so fitness levels are unknown. Market will tell you if she’s ready. If it likes her, back with confidence.
1 Irish Angel (Bet Now: $3.50) should appreciate the drop back to 1100m. 1200m just found her out IMO last time out on the course proper here but was still good in defeat when third to Snippy Fox. She seems best over the short course with fresh legs so back to 1100m, three weeks between runs, looks a good recipe.
7 Forzanini (Bet Now: $4.20) just keeps stepping up to the plate and I think has to be respected here. Finished best to win fresh at Gosford before going to Canterbury where Tommy Berry had to suck in his guts for the inside split and thankfully for him, it came and the mare drove hard late to win again. Good test for her here, but I think she’s up to it.
Race 6. (15:20) Maroubra Mile (bm100) 1550m
5 Bottega… (Bet Now: $4.80) he’s such a hard horse to find, but I want to give him a chance here. The run first up, to the eye, was just fair, but sectionals wise, the run was very good and his late splits were some of the best of the meeting. Fitter and up in trip, I know he’s a hard horse to trust, but he gets a great chance here.
1 Purple Sector (Bet Now: $4.60) looks to be back on track. He was touted as a potential Spring Carnival horse but he was kept on ice and dodged it in preference for the Summer. Resumed over 1400m at Randwick when wide no cover for the trip but stayed on and was excellent in defeat when second to Oscar Zulu. Much better set up here and has class.
6 Mr Satchmo (Bet Now: $91.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Chris Waller, he now finds himself with Will Freedman. His form in Australia, his efforts anyway, have been rank, but a change of lifestyle and scenery might be working because his two trials have been encouraging. Include in wider exotics.
Race 7. (16:00) Schweppes (bm78) 1000m
1 Van Giz (Bet Now: $14.00) looks to have returned in excellent order and is in for a fruitful Summer prep. Resumed over 1000m at Randwick two weeks ago and closed off with real purpose from near last in the run when second to a Stakes winner, The Bopper. Fitter, she appeals big time.
2 Fastconi (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Chris Waller trained gelding that resumes. This guy had a busy Winter/Spring, which saw him win in town and establish himself as a Saturday class horse. Was down to resume two weeks ago but has been kept on ice, so watch the market and see what it does with him.
8 Ocean Emperor (Bet Now: $11.00) deserves another chance. Bjorn Baker trained gelding that was four wide no cover in The Bopper race mentioned above and was quite game in defeat, only just getting the staggers late. Draws better this time around and down in the weights, he can bounce back.
Race 8. (16:40) Acy Securities (bm78) 1550m
1 Toomuchtobear (Bet Now: $2.25) looks a promising animal for Chris Waller. He was one of the less fancied of the Waller quintet when resuming two weeks ago at Randwick but the market mattered not to him as he came with a well timed run and was impressive in winning. Fitter and up in trip, he’ll take beating.
2 Canasta (Bet Now: $6.50) does his best racing from the front and that sort of racing pattern does suit this track. Attempted to lead throughout over the Randwick mile last time out and battled on really well in defeat when a close up third to Francesco Guardi. If he leads and gets control, he’ll look the winner for a long way.
5 Total Recall (Bet Now: $15.00) backing her to win, you have rocks in your head (I had rocks in my head two back) is a Paul Messara trained gelding that should appreciate the rise in trip. Resumed over 1350m on the Beaumont track at Newcastle and I thought his finale from near last on the turn was quite good behind stablemate and potential blacktype horse Akasawa. That form reads well for this.
Race 9. (17:20) Petaluma (bm72) 1300m
8 Kanazawa (Bet Now: $3.90) looks to have his share of talent. Debuted at the midweeks at Warwick Farm where he was wide with cover. Had to chase the leader from a fair way out but loved the way he knuckled down late to get up and record a big debut win. Bred to be a good one, he can measure up here for sure.
2 Snitzonfire (Bet Now: $4.60) is a proven performer on the Kenso track and does need to win this to warrant a trip to the Gold Coast. On speed at Wyong last start and seemed to have his chance I thought when third to Wisdom Of Water. That form reads well. Just depends if there is any upside left.
5 Warrior Hero (Bet Now: $11.00) is an honest customer for Team Freedman that ran last Wednesday at Warwick Farm where he was on speed and tried to put it to Rule Of Law, but that horse was packing too many punches and drew clear late, but this guy stuck on well for third. Not sure he wins here, but a first four threat.
Race 10. (18:00) Sharp Extensive It (bm78) 1300m
6 Tanker (Bet Now: $6.50) for me. Maher/Eustace trained gelding that was a few weeks between runs when contesting the Wyong 3&4YO Magic Millions. He just looked drunk around the turns but was warming up late in the straight when third to Wisdom Of Water. Bigger track, fitter, extra 100m, he’s hard to beat.
1300m has to be the query with 5 Queen Bellissimo (Bet Now: $3.00) but she’s such an honest mare for Brad Widdup. Lovely ride from Collett saw her win two weeks ago on the course proper here, just getting the verdict after sitting near a hot speed. Either she bounces off that or this is an end of prep run. Market will be the guide.
7 Badoosh (Bet Now: $26.00) will likely need the run but he has the talent to run a cheeky race fresh and could sneak a first four spot. Matty Dunn trained gelding that hasn’t raced since September 11 at Kembla when down the track behind Toomuchtobear. Two trials to get ready and is a winner on the Kenso track.
