Race 1. (14:14) Cd Dodd Mdn 1200m
Back to 1200m I hate for 5 Starchienne (Bet Now: $5.00) but I think she has the right form around her to overcome it and prove too good. She ran over 1300m at Northam last start and chased strongly from off the speed, just missing out on the win when a narrow second. Should sit off what looks a good tempo and prove hard to beat.
10 Filthy Habits (Bet Now: $4.00) has the Luke Fernie polish and commands respect. He has finished fourth in both career outings, the latest over 1400m at Northam when leading and just feeling the pinch late. I think back to 1200m is a big tick for him and he gets CJP to steer. Drawn well, should land on the bunny and be a leading contender.
2 Pilbara Song (Bet Now: $31.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but I didn’t actually think he was too bad first up at Belmont when on speed and fighting on pretty well when third to a handy horse in Visions Of Grace. Back to this sort of level, with luck from the gate, he can certainly give some cheek near the front.
Race 2. (14:53) Rexel (Rs1mw) 1760m
Was with 1 Henchard (Bet Now: $2.45) last time and I won’t be dropping off him. He was a real eye catcher fresh behind Cold Shizzle before racing at Belmont again when sitting back in the run before angling wider and coming with a wel timed run under CJP to get the bob of the head and the win. He’s only got room for improvement and up to to the 1760m, he’s the one they have to beat.
3 Feuding (Bet Now: $3.20) has home track advantage and commands respect. CJP got on his back over the mile here last time, getting the suck run behind the speed before getting clear air and finished best to win nicely. He has a fab record at the track and good lead that CJP sticks.
2 Magic Will Reign (Bet Now: $14.00) loves racing at Kalgoorlie and is a last start winner so he’s in with a shout. He sat back, wide with cover, at this track/distance last time and came with a well timed run, launching late to win. Harder here, but his record at the track keeps him in the mix.
Race 3. (15:33) Kalgoorlie Paint Centre-Bm66+ 1600m
6 Gluten Free (Bet Now: $6.50) is knocking on the door to win a race and I think he gets a great chance here. He ran over this track/distance last time out and was given a peach by Holly Watson. Presented to win the race but was no match late for Feuding. The depth here isn’t overly strong and is hard to beat I’d suggest.
3 Shoot Ur Shot (Bet Now: $3.70) is flying and can certainly take this out. Won the Tatts Cup last start, sitting just off the speed before Yuill presented him on the turn and in a driving go, was able to finish best. The depth here is nowhere near as strong, so he commands respect.
5 Megazone (Bet Now: $4.80) is racing like a rise to the mile will suit. Game second fresh at Northam before going here where he got back and just couldn’t dash when asked but stayed on and was good in defeat when fourth to Nurhaci. Not sure he’s going well enough to win but one for multiples.
Race 4. (16:13) Coastal Midwest Trans. (Rs0ly) 2200m
2 Arnie’s Boy (Bet Now: $2.20) on top in a bludger of a race. Close up second in the Carnarvon Cup two back before going to Belmont where he was good late from off the speed when third to Axel R Eight. Been up forever it seems like but is holding his form well and finds a winnable race.
3 There’s A Chance (Bet Now: $3.90) was heading down the Kalgoorlie Cup path but he didn’t quite measure up in the Coolgardie Cup so those plans were aborted. Last start they rode him cold and he found the line pretty well when fourth, not beaten far. The inside gate ensures he gets a soft run and is a first four threat.
6 Bentley’s Brother (Bet Now: $11.00) is suited up in trip. He ran over 1760m here last time out where he got a mile out of his ground and was never a factor but did make up some headway and was good late behind Magic Will Reign. Depth, as a whole, is rank, so he doesn’t need to improve much to be around the mark.
Race 5. (16:53) Tabtouch Westspeed (Rs0ly) 1300m
1 Prize Pursuit (Bet Now: $1.70) gets the nod in the get out. Jason Miller trained gelding that that was a dominant winner over 1200m here last time, with once again CJP producing a 12/10 on him to win with something in hand, winning by just under two lengths. Extra 100m is no issue, depth here is thin…he’s the best on the card.
11 Wetern Rhythm (Bet Now: $11.00) is a daughter of Sessions for Brock Lewthwaite that resumes. She hasn’t raced since March 13 at Ascot when just lacking the change up speed and wasn’t able to finish the job when fourth. Resumes without a trial but the stable have had good success at Kalgoorlie this season, so watch the market.
2 Halatorian (Bet Now: $10.00) has solid enough form around him to command respect here. He ran over 1300m at Belmont four weeks back where he was back off the speed and worked to the line okay without threatening Let’s Galahvant, who would be odds on against these. Form reads well, so he’s one for multiples.
Race 6. (17:30) Ld Total (Bm72+) 1300m
If 2 Excellent Dream (Bet Now: $2.70) runs up to his first up effort, he’ll win this. He resumed in the Nicopolis at Belmont and was very good from off the speed when second to Comes A Time, who is flying and won again last Saturday. Good second up record, miles back in grade/depth…good luck beating him I’d suggest.
8 Dark Assault (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Roy Rogers trained gelding that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since July 13 at Belmont where he just battled late, seemingly an end of prep run behind Regal Magic. Resumes without a trial, but first up on a feature day, watch the market and see what it does.
3 Agassi (Bet Now: $41.00) gets the Blinkers back on and can be an improver at a big price. He resumed in the Coolgardie Sprint and was clearly outclassed, likely a prep run, finishing down the track behind Hilton. I think the Blinkers can sharpen him right up, so I wouldn’t be totally penning him.
Race 7. (18:05) Ron Sayers (Bm66+) 1100m
6 Pixie Chix (Bet Now: $4.00) is on top for me. David Harrison trained mare that ran two weeks ago over 1000m at Belmont where she chased a strong speed and kept fighting on very well in defeat when a close up third to State Of Power. The extra 100m should be fine, lands in a plum spot from the gate and should prove hard to beat.
1 Kia Ora Star (Bet Now: $8.50) has found winning form for Roy Rogers and will be interesting to see if he can hold it. Three weeks between runs since a strong win over 1000m at Belmont, knuckling down strongly from off the speed to score. He was 1300m back to 1000m so back up in trip, he appeals big time.
9 Gunmetal Grey (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Ross Price trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since July 27 at Belmont when racing over 1200m, sitting near the speed and was trucking. Looked the winner when presented but the bob of the head beat her when second to Mercanto. Resumes without a trial but can sprint well fresh and finds a winnable race.
Race 8. (18:40) Kalgoorlie Cup 2200m
I like 9 General Grant (Bet Now: $4.60) in what looks an even edition of the Cup. He comes here third up after winning over 2100m at Belmont last time in what was a strong race but I liked the way he knuckled down to score. He’s got more upside than most, down in the weights and will be strong late.
1 Stafford’s Lad (Bet Now: $7.50) is the class of the field and has placed in this race previously. Big win from him in the Boulder Cup last start, surging hard late and class coming to the fore. He has that sense of timing about him and even allowing for the weight, his class alone nearly gets him home.
5 Rostropovich (Bet Now: $15.00) hasn’t fired a shot since coming to WA, but given Luke Fernie trains, a name famous in this part of the world, the stable would love to win the Cup so I think he will be ready to rock and roll. Had excuses in the Boulder Cup and should have finished closer, and he gets CJP to steer, so I am not totally penning him.
Race 9. (19:15) Neometals (Rs1mw) 1400m
Tricky race with a host of chances. That said, I am in the corner of 7 Green And Shady (Bet Now: $6.00). Three weeks between runs since racing at Belmont when back in the run and closed off strongly late when second to a pretty good horse in Advanced. Back a fair bit in depth, he appeals big time.
2 No Change (Bet Now: $13.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to get past. He attempted to lead throughout over 1400m at Belmont last start and gave a solid enough kick, just feeling the pinch late when fourth to Vogue’s Choice. If he gets the lead and gets control, he’ll take beating.
1 Powerful (Bet Now: $18.00) is one of the better dirt track gallopers in WA so will be interesting to see how he goes on the turf. He hasn’t raced since scoring a sharp win in the Pearl Classic during the Broome Carnival. Tick over trial to get ready, he has gate one, he’s a first four contender.
