Nine races will be run and won at Ascot on Saturda. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:49) Amelia Park (bm62+) 1000m
1 Queen Brown (Bet Now: $7.50) has class and I think that will get her home. Dan Morton trained filly that resumes, having not raced since the Lee Steere during the Carnival when down the track behind Kissonallforcheeks. Trialled okay leading in but she’s a race day horse and I think her class will be enough.
3 Vadette De Star (Bet Now: $2.70) is a Simon Miller trained filly that is above average. Produced some of the better late splits of the meeting when racing at this track/distance two weeks ago, getting a mile back in the run and finishing off with real purpose. If she’s within range 400m out, she can win this.
Good little test here for 5 Miss Livinia (Bet Now: $11.00). Didn’t exactly set the world on fire early on in the career but looks on track based on her first up win down the straight at Pinjarra where Pike was on, was near the speed throughout and she was far too good. Harder here but has upside and in the right camp.
Race 2. (14:24) Crown Perth Plate 1200m
1 Fatale Femme (Bet Now: $3.40) for me. Team Casey trained filly that put in a super effort in the Karrakatta, working home strongly to run fourth after getting a mile back in the run. This is clearly a drop in grade/depth for her and if she’s watching range on the turn, I think she wins.
6 Ruthless Tycoon (Bet Now: $3.70) is a Stephen Miller trained juvenile that debuts. He has had two trials to get ready for start one, each coming at Lark Hill, and has won them both in pretty good style. Market support early has been strong, so that might be a lead he goes good.
9 Shezaclassychix (Bet Now: $10.00) is a David Harrison trained filly that is still a maiden but I think she has a decent engine. Wide with cover when racing here last time out and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite get there. Tricky draw to overcome again but she’s racing well and can fill a first four spot.
Race 3. (15:04) Tabtouch-better Your Bet-rs1mw 1200m
He has broken my achy breaky heart a few times but I do think a win is near for 8 Billy Ray (Bet Now: $2.70). I hope it’s here. Resumed here at the midweeks and I think he wins if he runs straight, instead of laying in under pressure. He has a decent engine under the hood and confident he can get a win on the board.
1 Home In Five (Bet Now: $4.60) is a talented son of Street Boss that resumes. He really came of age when last in work, winning three of four and establishing himself as a metro horse. He’s got better races in store. Whether he wins here fresh I’m not sure, but has trialled well to get ready for his return.
Back to 1200m I find interesting with 4 Holy Ghost (Bet Now: $7.00) but I think Neville Parnham has him going well and is nearing a win. Ran over 1400m two weeks ago here and worked home strongly from off the speed behind the in form Billy Ain’t Silly. Back in trip is the query but he will be strong at the end.
Race 4. (15:44) Schweppes (bm66+) 2200m
The rise to 2200m looks very much ideal for 1 Come Right Back (Bet Now: $5.00). Adam Durrant trained gelding that has had two runs this prep, both coming over the mile. Won fresh at Bunbury before racing here. Just lacked a turn of foot to put them away so I’d be forgiving. Gets to a more suitable trip, getting fitter and in the right camp.
4 Black Shadow (Bet Now: $3.70) is another that should be suited up in trip. Jim Taylor trains this six year old, who has raced over 1800m his past couple, winning two back before racing here two weeks ago and running a game second to Yadreamin’. Is a winner at the track/distance and hard to knock the way he’s going.
7 Secret Pearl (Bet Now: $6.000) is a real track/distance specialist so she commands respect. First look at the trip for the prep came last start and she worked home strongly late when second to the in form Final Chill. Got upside to come and with her track/distance stats, she has to be rated as a winning threat.
Race 5. (16:24) Heineken 3 (rs1mw) 1800m
8 Off Wego (Bet Now: $2.50) is an Adam Durrant trained three year old that is a bit one paced but has talent. He was a few weeks between runs when racing at this track/distance a fortnight ago. Just lacked a turn of foot to put them away but was close up in defeat. Definite winning chance against these.
2 Beret (Bet Now: $4.00) can be hard to trust but she hasn’t been far away for the most part this prep and is bursting to win a race. Hasn’t raced since March 27 at this track/distance when just missing out on picking up the in form Miss Marietta. Form around her just reads well. Just the break between runs interests me.
12 Praying With God (Bet Now: $46.00) can sneak a first four spot for Sharon Miller. Put together a couple on the bounce at the provincials before going to Narrogin when a short priced elect where she wasn’t beaten far, perhaps the big weight getting to her late. Not sure she wins, but one for exotics.
Race 6. (17:00) Devil's Lair (bm78+) 1500m
3 Watch Me Dance (Bet Now: $2.20) has the class/quality to beat these. Is she wearing down the patience of punters because she has started hard in the market in two of her last three and while she has run well, she hasn’t won. Like she is on the quick back up and overall, this race hasn’t got much depth.
I’ve been trying to figure out 8 Not To Be Mist (Bet Now: $4.40). I thought Pike jumping on would spark something last Saturday, but he did zilch. The only saving grace is the seven day back up, which I like, and the fact he tumbles in weight, plus the lack of depth engaged, so he gets one last chance.
4 Majinika (Bet Now: $8.50) is a beauty for Ashley Maley. Rising ten years of age, but maintains a healthy zest for racing, which was seen when winning here four weeks ago, wearing them down and fighting off Tinsnip to win quite comfortably on the line. This race isn’t much harder, so he’s a threat for sure.
Race 7. (17:35) Mrs Mac's (bm72+) 1000m
I’m with 1 Gemma’s Son (Bet Now: $7.00) in what does look a race in two. Talented three year old for David Harrison that was six weeks between runs when racing at this track/distance a fortnight ago. Was wide no cover for the trip but still had the audacity to keep finding the line when a close up third to River Beau. With improvement off that, he rates highly.
5 Miss Conteki (Bet Now: $2.20) looks the other key winning chance. Simon Miller trained mare that is putting together a tidy record and is pushing claims to warrant a crack at some blacktype. Has won five on the bounce and is 3/3 this prep. Loved the way she knuckled down when required to win here two weeks ago over 1200m. Back to 1000m is the query but does no work from the gate.
6 Speeding Comet (Bet Now: $91.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Simon Miller, this veteran now finds himself with Mitch Pateman. He’s been a ripper for a number of years, but just hasn’t quite established himself at this level on a consistent basis. But, he can surprise and has a good fresh record.
Race 8. (18:15) W'speed Autumn Final (rs0mw) 1200m
I’m really keen on 1 Sir Mambo (Bet Now: $8.50) running well. He isn’t the most reliable horse going around in terms of winning, but he is usually thereabouts. I thought his effort two weeks ago behind Image Keeper was a beauty from the back, spotting those in front too much start. The big lead for me is that the stable finds Jarrad Noske to steer, a senior rider instead of an apprentice to offset the weight.
6 City Circle (Bet Now: $5.50) is on the seven day back up after racing here last Saturday. Could make a little case to say she should have gone close to winning, but overall I thought she had her chance. She’s racing quite well at the moment and thought a slight query at 1200m, hard to knock the way she’s going.
8 Dew West (Bet Now: $27.00) hasn’t exactly set the world on fire this time in, but her best efforts have come when produced third up so she does command respect of some level. She was plain two weeks ago behind Image Keeper but we know her best is more than good enough to beat these.
Race 9. (18:55) Events At Ascot (bm66+) 1400m
14 Great Charade (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Trevor Andrews trained gelding that is in a purple patch at the moment and I think can graduate to Saturday grade. Ran over 1500m here at the midweeks where Rawiller had him in the sweet spot just off the speed and once he pushed the button, away he went and he was dominant. Confident he can measure up.
8 Wild Fusion (Bet Now: $10.00) is an absolute beauty who is just so honest and is always around the mark. Hasn’t raced since March 27 when racing over 1400m here when back off the speed and kept chasing when second to Diapara. Been freshened up and has had a solid Albany trial to get ready.
12 Mini Winnie (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing very well at the moment. Normally saves his best for Bunbury but that changed here two weeks ago when chasing strongly, just failing to pick up the in form Billy Ain’t Silly. That form does look to read well for a race like this so keen to see how he goes.
