2 Cheerful Legend (Bet Now: $2.90 TOP ODDS) on top. John Sadler trained youngster that has been given a mini freshen up since contesting the VRC Sires. He lobbed into a lovely spot near the speed and was there to win. Just think the 1400m found him out. Better suited at 1200m and stable is just low flying.

Danger

I like 8 Taborca (Bet Now: $16.00 TOP ODDS) as a horse and I think he can measure up here. Debuted over 1000m at the Valley on William Reid Night and while he was clearly no match for Crystal Bound, he did close off well in a fast race that rated well for the night. Should appreciate 1200m and in the right camp for that kind of progression.

Long Shot

6 Lucky Decision (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) is a well bred colt for Peter Moody on debut. He has had a couple of jumpouts at Pakenham to get ready for start one and has looked pretty solid each time he has stepped out, showing a decent level of ability from what I saw, so watch the market and see what it does.

Back Me

1 Dollar For Dollar (Bet Now: $2.90 TOP ODDS) has class and that will carry him a long way. He resumed several weeks ago in the Abell at the Valley. He was near the speed throughout and tried hard, but Ancestry broke their hearts halfway home and sustained the gallop. Dollar For Dollar just peaked late. He’ll come on from that and prove hard to beat.

Danger

6 Simply Optimistic (Bet Now: $3.50 TOP ODDS) on top in a tricky race. Busuttin/Young trained gelding that resumed over 1100m at Bendigo. He was a notable drifter in betting and while the market got it right, he didn’t win, I thought he was pretty good late when second to Sam’s Image. Fitter and up to 1200m, he’s likeable.

Long Shot

5 Fabric (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) is a quality mare for Danny O’Brien that resumes. This mare hasn’t raced since Cup Day at Flemington over 1400m when down the track after sitting on speed behind impressive winner Rich Hips. Good fresh record and overall, think she strikes a very winnable race.

Race 3. (13:35) Neds Same Race Multi (bm78) 1100m

Back Me

One of the best on the program for me here in 1 Superium (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS). He has been an enigma throughout his career, but at his best, he is Stakes class. Now with Team Hawkes after formerly being with Joe Pride where he was luckless for the most part, especially last start at Newcastle. His trial was good, he sprints well fresh…if he’s anywhere near right, he wins.

Danger

8 Sapphire Crown (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) deserves another look. He is three weeks between runs since racing at Mornington where he was back in the run in a fast run race and just couldn’t get a look in, failing to fire behind Sartorial Splendor. Better suited here and prior form was sound enough for a race like this.

Long Shot

3 Yulong Storm (Bet Now: $18.00 TOP ODDS) is a sneaky chance. Think he’s going well got Nathan Hobson. They zipped home too sharp for him fresh at Echuca. He then went to Bendigo and was okay late, again in a sit/sprint, behind Sam’s Image. He’s going well enough to be dangerous here at a decent price.

Race 4. (14:10) Catanach's Jewellers (bm84) 1100m

Back Me

8 Rainbiel (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) is the query here. She’s been somewhat disappointing this time in after such a fruitful Spring. She was kept safe in the betting at the Valley but didn’t fire a shot and ran last behind War Correspondent. Her best is clearly good enough. Perhaps back to Caulfield helps her cause so giving her another chance.

Danger

6 Cordilla (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) can certainly bounce back here. Forget she went around fresh at the Valley. Market said she wasn’t ready and to combine with that, the track pattern was against her, so just a total forgive/forget run. Better suited here I feel and certainly has enough class to take this out.

Long Shot

2 She’s A Thief (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) can improve. Michael Moroney trained mare that resumed at Bendigo two weeks ago. She paraded like she would need the run and that is how it panned out behind Sam’s Image. You’d like to think she will come on from that and does have a liking for Caulfield.

Race 5. (14:50) Hylands Race Colours Hcp 1400m

6 Mozzie Monster (Bet Now: $2.90) is a John Sadler trained filly that should take a power of beating. Think if she drew closer in the Bendigo Guineas, she beats home Annavisto. Just got dragged back from the wide gate and had to give up too much head start, but loved the way she found the line. Third up now, hard fit for a red hot stable, she’ll do me.

Danger

1 Annavisto (Bet Now: $2.50) won that race mentioned above and does command respect, but she is short enough all the same and I think will ease. Jamie Kah rode a 12/10 race on the filly when leading throughout, getting control and kicking on strongly. Hard to beat, but wait until race time and you’ll get better.

Long Shot

10 Elidi (Bet Now: $6.00) has the engine under the hood to give this a shake. Her problem is she has such an awful racing style of flopping out the back. Cost her two back at Pakenham before racing at Sandown last time where she again got back to near last in the run and had too much to do. She’s bursting to win a race. Just needs the right set up.

Race 6. (15:35) Galilee Series Final 2400m

Back Me

6 Through Irish Eyes (Bet Now: $4.20) looks like he will eat up the 2400m for the Maher/Eustace camp. He slogged it out best to win over 2200m at Sale, making a sustained run from the back and he was impressive the way he kept going. Off that, no dramas with an extra 200m and is in the right stable for this distance range.

Danger

1 Liquero (Bet Now: $1.80) hasn’t done much wrong in his short career to date. Had a let up prior to racing in the St Leger Trial at Bendigo. Thought it was a sweet steer by McNeil. Made a sustained run from off the speed and maintained a strong gallop to the line in winning, fending them off over the concluding stages. That was his first run in a few weeks so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.

Long Shot

8 Olivia’s Game (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Grahame Begg trained filly who has progression and upside. Bolted up to win her maiden two back at Cranbourne before going to the St Leger Trial. Ridden well back off the speed and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up ground and wasn’t too bad. Can sneak a first four spot.

Race 7. (16:15) Mrc Chairman's Club Hcp 2400m

Back Me

7 Yonkers (Bet Now: $4.80) gets to a track/distance he has excelled at previously and I hope that can see him bounce back into winning form. I’d be very forgiving of his Mornington Cup effort. Some of the rides in that race were just embarrassing and the race was pretty much a barrier trial for Mount Popa. Yonkers stuck on well and does bring with him strong form lines.

Danger

8 Mohican Heights (Bet Now: $5.50) can win again for sure. Second run at 2000m for the prep is a proven winning formula and that was certainly the case for this guy when winning three weeks back at Mornington, wearing down Grand Promenade. He was only third up, so he should have improvement to come.

Long Shot

9 Skelm (Bet Now: $11.00) has been a good campaigner for Terry Kelly for a couple of seasons. Dominant win two back in the Stony Creek Cup before going to the Mornington Cup where he was one of many not suited by the race shape so forgive and forget he went around. Off the win at Stony Creek, he’s in the mix.

Race 8. (16:50) The Promenade (bm84) 2000m

Back Me

2 Grand Promenade (Bet Now: $3.90) should prove hard to beat. Maher/Eustace trained gelding that resumed three weeks ago over 2000m at Mornington. Thought Ben Allen gave him a peach steer and he was there to win. Just first up, he felt the pinch late and was run down by a race fit Mohican Heights. Fitter, he can take this out.

Danger

5 Independent Road (Bet Now: $4.60) has been up a fair while but continues to hold his form really nicely and has to be respected again. He was impressive when winning over 1800m at Sandown last time. He was a query at the trip prior to the race, but he was strong late in putting them away and off that, 2000m should be fine.

Long Shot

7 Vegas Knight (Bet Now: $6.00) is most effective when allowed to sit on speed and that is what eventuated at Sandown last time in that race mentioned above that Independent Road contested. He had a good battle with that horse, but that one was hard fit, in form and just wore him down. If he gets the front and there is any hint of pattern suiting on speed horses, he’ll take beating.

Race 9. (17:25) Tile Importer Hcp 1600m

Back Me

6 Inverloch (Bet Now: $18.00) will give a sight I’m sure. He gave a sight fresh in the Golden Mile at Bendigo. The run just told on him late and he petered out behind Ironclad, but the run was still a pass mark for his resumption. Fitter, he likes Caulfield and will be out of trouble on speed. Definite winning chance.

Danger

5 Platoon (Bet Now: $2.60) does bring the best form leading into this. It’s just a query of how much upside is left. He ran in the Golden Mile and was good from off the pace when second to Ironclad. He can sit much closer in the run from the good draw and overall, he strikes a pretty winnable race.

Long Shot

4 All Too Huiying (Bet Now: $17.00) can be an improver. He resumed in the Golden Mile where he just did too much work from the wide gate to land on speed and that effort told late, finishing down the track behind Ironclad. He does get better as the prep goes on. Perhaps one more, but has a touch of class.
