Race 1. (12:30) Poseidon Stakes 1100m
4 Alpha One (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) should take beating here. He is several weeks between runs since contesting the Vain at Caulfield where he led and looked the winner when he darted clear, but was nabbed late by Giga Kick, a quality animal. Has the race fitness on his side and with his racing pattern, he’ll take beating.
6 Doull (Bet Now: $2.70 TOP ODDS) is a very promising three year old for Team Freedman that resumes. He created such an impression on debut here, sitting near the speed and trucked nicely before clicking into gear and making a mess of them, them being not much. One jumpout leading in, so he may need the run, but he may have panels on these.
8 Spacewalk (Bet Now: $6.00) is a definite winning chance. He comes to the straight and I think running in a straight line would be ideal given he can be a bit quirky when let down, as seen in two runs back from a break in Sydney. Blake Shinn aboard, he’ll be hard to hold out.
Race 2. (13:05) Aust. Childhood Foundation Hcp 1700m
12 Hezashocka (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) has been kept on ice for the Price/Kent camp since a strong win over 2000m here back on July 16 when his turn of foot came to the fore, just getting the better of a good stayer, Mankayan. Soft gate, down in the weights again, J Kah sticks…he only runs well.
13 Lyrical Lad (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) is an absolute beauty for Phillip Stokes and confident he can go close against these. Several weeks between runs since a dominant win at Flemington, where he found his pet trip, the mile, and found wet ground, which he loved, proving too good for Born A King, who spanked them next start, so the form reads well. Good test here, but confident he measures up.
15 Olympic Korchnoi (Bet Now: $61.00 TOP ODDS) is a very interesting runner. Formerly raced in Brazil, he makes his Australian debut for Phillip Stokes. I have never known form from Brazil to travel successfully, so he does create interest. Three jumpouts to get ready, all solid enough to the eye…he either could be one out of the box and be good, or an absolute donkey. Watch the market.
Race 3. (13:40) Cap D'antibes Stakes 1100m
8 Hell Hound (Bet Now: $16.00 TOP ODDS) is a promising filly for the Price/Kent camp that resumes. She did a good job in her first prep, winning 2/2, the debut seeing her absolutely smash the clock at Terang before winning at Sandown. Spelled with the Spring in mind and with two jumpouts under the belt, she’s certainly forward enough IMO.
6 Ojai (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) looks to have returned in really good order. Trialled up well in Sydney prior to resuming several weeks ago in the Quezette at Caulfield where she got back to near last in the run and was very good late when a narrow second to Bound For Home. Fitter, if she’s within range, she’ll be hard to hold out.
5 Get In The Spirit (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) is a very interesting runner. Price/Kent stable are flying with their three year olds and this filly did show good promise on debut here back in October when a strong winner at Stakes level, albeit the form looks suspect. Given a good break and her recent trial/jumpout work has been encouraging.
Race 4. (14:20) The Sofitel 1400m
8 Bermadez (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) is an absolute bomb when produced fresh and with a kind map, I am in his corner. Ended last prep on a high wehn giving them a spanking during the Warrnambool Carnival. Given a good break and with two jumpouts under the belt, he’s ready to go I’d suggest, so happy to be in his corner, especially with that first up record.
Great to see 10 Pinstriped (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) back at the races. He resumes after a very good Autumn prep, where he was luckless in the Australian Guineas before producing an end of prep run in the All Star Mile behind Zaaki. Two strong jumpouts to get ready, proven at the track/distance, he’s a key threat.
11 Viral (Bet Now: $19.00 TOP ODDS) is one I could entertain for wider multiples. He resumed a few weeks back in the Regal Roller at Caulfield, with 1200m clearly being short of his best, but I actually didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind the Queensland hype horse Uncommon James. Might want one more, but the return was encouraging.
Race 5. (14:55) Makybe Diva Stakes 1600m
It’s hard to get away from 1 I’m Thunderstruck (Bet Now: $2.35). High class five year old that resumed, like most here, in the Memsie, and he was one of the better runs of the race, closing off with real purpose when second to Snapdancer. He is a big track horse so the Flemington mile is ideal and off the resumption, he’s clearly one of the hardest to beat.
4 Alligator Blood (Bet Now: $5.00) deserves another chance. He ran in the Memsie and didn’t have the best of luck in the straight, trying to get clear but it just didn’t eventuate until it was race over. Tim Clark is back on and I think you’ll see a more positive ride. Proven performer at Flemington, he can bounce back.
7 Western Empire (Bet Now: $6.50) has class/quality and he can certainly take this out. He was ridden with intent in the Memsie and was there to win on the turn but condition just gave way late. The run was still pretty good but I do think with a more patient steer, you’ll see a much better horse.
Race 6. (15:35) The Sally Chirnside Hcp 2500m
I’m very wary of 4 Interpretation (Bet Now: $4.60), thinking he is the one with the enormous upside. Australian debut came at Flemington in a good race and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Hezashocka. He’s a dry ground specialist, based on his form overseas, liked the tick over trial…if this track is on the firm side, he’s the one.
3 Point Nepean (Bet Now: $3.50) is already secured a Melbourne Cup run given he won the Andrew Ramsden, so he won’t be wound up for this…but he could be too brilliant for them. He resumes for Team Williams with the first Tuesday in November being the main target. He will roll forward though and does get J Kah to steer.
6 The Good Fight (Bet Now: $26.00) should appreciate a rise to 2500m. He ran in the Mankayan race from three weeks back at The Valley where the race shape wasn’t to his liking and he just whacked away late, but was far from disgraced behind the Maher/Eustace stayer. Better set up here, so he can improve.
Race 7. (16:15) Let's Elope Stakes 1400m
5 Kissonallforcheeks (Bet Now: $4.00) is a very good WA mare that is one of the hardest to beat. She resumed two weeks ago in the Cockram at Caulfield over 1200m, a trip short of her best, but stuck on and was good in defeat when third to Chain Of Lighting. Dynamic winner at this track/distance in the Autumn and in Mares grade, she’ll do me.
6 Flying Mascot (Bet Now: $4.80) has a good second up record and commands respect. She resumed in the Cockram where she was on speed outside Passive Aggressive and seemed to be moving well but just lacked the change up speed to finish it off, finishing fifth. Fitter, up to 1400m, she’s a key threat.
14 I Am Bene (Bet Now: $8.00) is a quality mare for Andrew Clarken that is a must for multiples. Far from disgraced fresh behind Extremely Lucky in the Lightning at Morphettville before going to Caulfield where she drove hard after getting held up to win impressively. Good test here, doubt she wins, but a first four threat.
Race 8. (16:50) Bobbie Lewis Qlty 1200m
The Maher/Eustace stable have a wonderful record with older mares and hoping that trend continues with 12 Swats That (Bet Now: $5.00). Gave her life after her last run, where she was terrible, but had excuses. New stable, good trial and first up last prep, she was a closing fourth, beaten just over a length in the Lightning. Looks like there will be a stack of early speed, she can sit off it and launch. She’ll do me.
4 Roch N Horse (Bet Now: $10.00) returns to the scene of the crime of his Newmarket win. Resumed three weeks ago in the Carlyon at The Valley and closed off his race nicely in a race not really suited to him. Back to the Flemington straight course, with good upside, he’s in the mix.
14 Chat (Bet Now: $81.00) can be an improver up in trip. He resumed a few weeks back in the Show County where he looked like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out, but he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Showmanship. Much better set up this time around and his best is good enough to be a first four threat.
Race 9. (17:25) Exford Plate 1400m
14 Cadazio (Bet Now: $7.50) is my early Derby horse so while 1400m is short of his best, I think he goes very good. Debuted at Geelong over 1400m and he made a mess of them from on speed, getting better as the race went on. Moved well in a recent Cranbourne jumpout and the stable are keen on him for the Derby.
I reckon this is close to D-Day for 11 Foujita San (Bet Now: $6.00) as to whether he’s a serious Caulfield Guineas horse or not. He resumed three weeks ago in the McKenzie at The Valley and I thought it was a fair run without being that great behind Fast Witness. Big track, fitter, up to 1400m, he gets a good set up to bounce back hard.
Fitter and up to 1400m on the bigger track are all big positives for 1 Let’srollthedice (Bet Now: $11.00). He is a Group ll winner at the track/distance who resumed in the McKenzie and I thought the run was a pass mark behind Fast Witness in a good effort. Has the runs on the board so he commands respect.
