Race 1. (17:40) Ladbrokes Own Spring Mdn Plate 2025m
I think the market will flip come jump time and I reckon 12 Rotating Soul (Bet Now: $3.30) will start favourite over Our Paramour. They clashed in the Oaks Trial at Flemington and for mine, this girl was a far better run given she was on debut, was held up at times and for the most part, I thought the ride from McDougall was quiet. Gets a big jockey upgrade, she’ll love the rise to 2000m, upside…keen on her prospects.
11 Our Paramour (Bet Now: $2.00) is an improving type for Mark Walker and is the key threat after her third placing in the Oaks Trial. She got the suck run in transit just behind the speed and tried hard, but for the most part, she had her chance. Maps ideally once again and up in trip should be fine.
3 Spellmaster (Bet Now: $7.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. This guy has been pretty good in two runs back from a spell, catching the eye fresh at Bendigo before going to the mile here where he got back and made up solid headway late in the piece. If he can settle closer, he’s dangerous.
Race 2. (18:15) Afc - Peter & Lavella Darose Mdn Plate 1000m
10 Vestas (Bet Now: $3.10) on top for me in what looks a decent maiden. Clinton McDonald trained filly that is on debut off the back of extensive trial, with two jumpouts and a trial in between, where each time she has moved pretty well, and with home track advantage, B Melham booked, there is intent for mine.
3 Cosmic Pride (Bet Now: $4.40) is a daughter of Shamus Award for Price/Kent that resumes. This girl had a two run Autumn prep, placing on debut before a down the track effort in The Showdown. Has trialled/jumped out well leading and strikes a winnable race, so watch the market and see what it does.
2 El Calafate (Bet Now: $9.50) is an improver for Team Freedman. He was a bit on the plain side when debuting with a down the track effort at Bendigo but with the Tongue Tie being applied here, I am saying there were excuses for the debut performance, which followed impressive jumpout work. He can bounce back.
Race 3. (18:45) Hertz Cranbourne Corinthian 1200m
Waddle your finger and hope for the best. On top is 8 Jenni Of Avalon (Bet Now: $6.00). She has shown talent when racing at TAB meetings previously but was dominant on the Picnic circuit, albeit over further. But, there is good speed here, and I think she’ll get her chance to finish over the top.
6 Eitilt (Bet Now: $8.00) is a ten year old that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since March 23 at Healesville when down the track over 1200m behind Kulina. He is a horse who can sprint well on the fresh side and will press forward. His best is good enough so watch the market.
4 Street Swagger (Bet Now: $7.00) is a son of Street Boss that resumes. His last run came over the mile here in the Autumn when contesting the Picnic Final, finishing down the track in an end of prep run. Good fresh record, will press forward and run a positive race I say.
Race 4. (19:15) Highview Accounting & Financial Mdn Plate 1300m
9 Brutalina (Bet Now: $3.40) for me. Price/Kent trained filly that debuted over 1200m at Ballarat where she had a suck run in transit behind the speed before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late, just missing out on the win. Fitter and up to 1300m, she takes beating.
3 The Western Front (Bet Now: $4.60) is an interesting runner. Team Hayes trained four year old that debuts off the back of jumpout work where he hasn’t been too bad to my eye. Not exactly screamed out of a coming debut winner but the stable do place them perfectly and he maps ideally.
8 Papal Army (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Team Browne trained gelding that debuts. Son of US Navy Flag that hasn’t looked too bad in jumpout work for the first start and really, the stable is one of the more in form going around in Victoria at the moment, so watch the market.
Race 5. (19:45) Frankston Sand Soil & Mini Mix Mdn Plate 1600m
10 Slugworth (Bet Now: $4.20) looks the play for me. Busuttin/Young trained gelding that debuted over 1400m here where he just got a bit too far back off the speed and while he was never a winning threat, he worked home with real purpose in a good piece of work. Fitter and up in trip, he can settle much closer in the run and be strong at the end.
7 Divine Thoughts (Bet Now: $1.70) is racing very well for Moody/Coleman but she can’t quite crack it for a win. She attempted to lead throughout over 1500m at Bendigo last time and gave a strong kick but just couldn’t quite see it through when second to Fiorenot. If she finds the front and gets control, she takes beating.
9 Suddenly (Bet Now: $10.00) isn’t far off a maiden win. She did a good job over the mile at Moe last time, getting a fair way out of her ground but did work to the line with purpose in a good effort behind Yorkel. She can settle closer and be strong late, and for mine, is a knockout hope.
Race 6. (20:15) Fulmen Park (Bm64) 2520m
2 Torbelo (Bet Now: $5.50) is the way I am leaning. Ciaron Maher trained galloper that does look a bit on the one paced side but he will stay all day so 2520m is no issue, especially based on his last start maiden win at Swan Hill. He was on speed throughout and trucking but when asked, he was one paced, but kept finding. He’ll press forward and only runs well.
1 Proprietary (Bet Now: $2.70) is unknown at the trip and is racing like a rise to 2520m suits. This guy ran over 2000m at Mornington last time where he was near the speed and presented to win but was just a bit one paced and couldn’t quite finish the job. Like him up in trip and maps perfect.
5 Real Intrigue (Bet Now: $9.50) is an improving type for Luke Oliver. He was 1600m to 2200m when racing at Bairnsdale last start. He got off the speed and kept finding the line without threatening when fourth. He has that 2200m run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead for this 2500m assignment.
Race 7. (20:45) Pinker Pinker Plate 2025m
1 Basilinna (Bet Now: $4.40) has class on her side and I’ll bank on that class getting her home. She resumed in the Gold Nugget at Ballarat where she got back to near last in the run and failed to get involved when down the track behind Earlswood. Much better set up this time around for mine and with the class factor, I am happy to be in her corner.
3 One Dream One Soul (Bet Now: $3.30) should appreciate a rise in trip. Strong winner over the mile at The Valley two back before going to 1800m at Sandown where she got back in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding and was good in defeat. Up in trip and back to Mares grade, she appeals.
5 Charisse (Bet Now: $7.00) has earned a crack at a race like this off the back of a win over 1800m at Flemington where she gave them a start and a beating, letting down with purpose late to win well. Good test here against good mares, but I do think she can measure up.
Race 8. (21:15) Southside Racing Pin For A Purpose (Bm70) 1300m
1 Chartwell House (Bet Now: $14.00) will put himself on speed and look to give his all. He comes through the Dunlop on Benalla Cup Day when near the front and gave his all but just couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to city class mare Red Dates. Looks the leader and if she gets front end control, he takes running down.
9 Wolfgang (Bet Now: $6.50) is a very interesting runner. Kennewell/Yeomans trained three year old that resumes and returns to racing as a gelding, having not raced since Feb 17 at Flemington when contesting the Talindert and was outclassed but far from disgraced behind Aardvark. Trialled up well for the return and his best is more than good enough. Watch the market.
7 Codigo (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. He resumed over 1100m at Flemington where he was just run off his legs and although he was never a winning threat, he did make up ground and I thought the return was a pass mark. Better set up here, he’s a big improver.
Race 9. (21:45) Cranbourne Cup 23 Nov (Bm64) 1600m
2 He’ll Rip (Bet Now: $4.00) is the way I am leaning in the get out. Corstens/Larkin trained gelding that ran over 1400m at Flemington where he got into a decent spot off the speed and worked home well enough when second to a handy horse in Saban. The rise in trip is fine and third up from a spell, he should just about be hard fit, ready to go.
8 Placentia Bay (Bet Now: $2.80) has done little wrong in two career outings and commands respect. He was a dominant debut winner here before going to Bendigo when leading and giving a decent kick but just couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Theophilus. He has a good racing style and strikes a winnable race.
7 Super Solar (Bet Now: $11.00) is one of the key prospects. This gelding ran over the mile at Seymour last time when on speed throughout and was there to win when asked for the effort but just whacked to the line when third to Heavenly Eagle. Good racing style, hard fit, in form, he’s in with a definite shout.
