The Sunshine Coast will host their biggest race day on Sunday, with three feature races across the nine event program. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Winx Guineas 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Winx Guineas
Race 1. (12:35) Reed Racing Hcp (c6) 1600m
5 Fort Wayne (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) is a track specialist and despite a class/depth rise, I think on his home track, he’ll take beating. Few weeks between runs since finishing best to win over 1800m here, beating Hostage Of War, who was game in defeat in the Gatton Cup. Back to the mile no issue and is hard to beat.
6 I Could Do Better (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) is a Chris Waller trained galloper that has been a couple of months break since winning impressively over 1800m at the Gold Coast on testing ground, so not too dissimilar to what he faces here, albeit then he was hard fit whereas here he has fresh legs, but residual fitness and a nice tick over trial suggests he’s ready to go.
9 Great Powers (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) is sneaky going well for Mark Currie. Wasn’t too bad behind Tumbler Ridge at Eagle Farm before going to Ipswich where she was good late without threatening behind Prospectus. Getting hard fit now and on the bigger track, she’s a knockout chance.
Race 2. (13:10) Access Insulat. Sun. Coast Hcp 1000m
They tried to get 3 Dusty Tycoon (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) to run out 1400m last prep with eyes on the Magic Millions Guineas, but she failed at 1400m last run last prep, so stable pulled the pin on that. Been given a good break, best is at 1000m and has trialled up very well in readiness.
1 Goldsborough (Bet Now: $3.00 TOP ODDS) is a handy three year old for Gary Duncan that has come back in really good order. Game third fresh in the Darby McCarthy behind Kisukano before going to the Sunny Coast where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted. Just has to overcome a sticky draw.
10 Bold And Lucy (Bet Now: $34.00 TOP ODDS) is a Garnett Taylor trained filly that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since March 6 at Eagle Farm when far from disgraced in defeat behind Georgie’s Pride, who was competitive during the Winter Carnival. Resumes without a trial but being trained here, you’d assume she’s wound up to run a positive race.
Race 3. (13:45) Butler Mcdermott Law. Classic 1000m
Not a great deal of confidence here but leaning towards 5 Habib (Bet Now: $21.00 TOP ODDS), resuming for Mark Currie. This juvenile had a three run prep to start his career in the Autumn and each run he was hard in the market, so he was clearly showing something at home to be well fancied. Has trialled well leading in and despite drawing wide, is hard to beat.
1 Miss Hipstar (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) has class and I think that along nearly gets her home. She was heading down the JJ Atkins path and things looked on track after a first up win in the Dalrello but as the depth/quality increased, she failed to measure up. Freshened up back to the short course, she has class on her side.
2 You’ll Be Mist (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is trained on the track and I think is best suited at 1000m. All three career wins have come at this track/distance, including a sharp first up win, albeit in a weaker race than this. She has run well at metro level previously and with the track/distance record, she is a threat.
Race 4. (14:20) Martin Collins Australia Hcp 1000m
Not sure 6 Totally Charmed (Bet Now: $2.10) wants it too wet but I do think he’s the best horse in the race. Resumes for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp, having not raced since Since an impressive win over 1200m here back in November. Been given a good break, dodged the Winter Carnival, and has trialled well leading in.
1 Just Orm (Bet Now: $3.70) is the class runner of the field and class will carry him a long way. Tony Gollan trained sprinter that is seven weeks between runs since being close up in the Chief De Beers behind Varda. 1000m is his sweet spot and the small field helps his cause.
2 Tato Key (Bet Now: $19.00) is a fascinating runner. He’s got the talent when right, but it’s just a matter of where he is at re fitness. First run for the Vandyke camp, hasn’t raced since a down the track effort at Rosehill back in May last year. Always on guard with these Vandyke runners resuming, so watch the market.
Race 5. (14:59) Caloundra Cup 2400m
3 Stockman (Bet Now: $1.70) is three weeks between runs for Joe Pride after bolting up to win the McKell Cup at Rosehill. He loved the heavy conditions and solid tempo, which ensured the best stayer would win the race, and that he was. 2400m on testing ground, survival of the fittest, he’s the winner barring bad luck.
You could understand if 4 Flash Aah (Bet Now: $6.50) had concussion due to the prep he has had, but credit to the horse, and the stable, he has been racing really well in tidy races, the latest being the Ipswich Cup when a close up third to Happy Go Plucky. The way he is going, he has to be included.
5 Victory Eight (Bet Now: $20.00) saves his best for his home track, which is here, so while I doubt he wins, I can entertain him as a first four threat. Didn’t think he was too bad two back behind Reloaded at Eagle Farm. Then went to the Ipswich Cup and was far from disgraced in defeat after getting back in the run. He’s one I’d include in wider multiples.
Race 6. (15:38) Sky Racing Sprint Final (bm80) 1200m
10 Jetski (Bet Now: $6.00) has been a real model of consistency since joining the Sears camp. Doesn’t win out of turn, but is rarely far away from the thick end of the prize, his last start being a closing third to L’Cosmo after getting back to near last in the run. Dangerous if he can settle closer.
9 L’Cosmo (Bet Now: $3.70) has the Vandyke polish and on the home track, is a key chance. Lovely on speed steer from Maloney saw her win the Sunny Coast Heat just over three weeks ago under the lights, just fending off Dreamreacher in a tight go. Reckon with something to chase, she’ll be more effective.
2 Jardin Rouge (Bet Now: $15.00) has a fab track/distance record and commands respect at big odds I’d suggest. Resumed over 1110m at Doomben in an open handicap and was far from disgraced in defeat I thought behind Phobetor, who went down narrowly in the Ramornie on Wednesday, so the form does read well.
Race 7. (16:19) Winx Guineas 1600m
John Smerdon has done a really good job with 8 Rogue Rocker (Bet Now: $4.60) this time in. Progressive three year old that has won four of his seven career outings. Got the win via a protest last time out at the Gold Coast, with the original winner shifting out under pressure and causing interference. Scratched from the Grafton Guineas in preference for this, which to me yells out confidence.
12 Glitter Strip (Bet Now: $11.00) looks one of the hardest to beat. Tony Gollan trained filly that is four weeks between runs since catching the eye in the Gunsynd behind a potential Group l animal, Ayrton. The form around her just reads so well and has the runs on the board, so she commands respect.
7 Mob Buster (Bet Now: $23.00) is a Melissa Taylor trained three year old that ran out of his skin in the Gunsynd. He was totally unwanted in betting, starting $101, but he closed off well from of the speed to run third to Ayrton. Repeats that effort here and he’ll go close to winning.
Race 8. (16:55) Glasshouse Hcp 1400m
I want to give 5 Coventina Bay (Bet Now: $8.50) another chance. Kiwi mare that had a two run prep at Eagle Farm in the Dane Ripper and Tatts Tiara respectively and ran okay without measuring up, but perhaps she didn’t handle Eagle Farm, like some don’t. Like her on a genuine wet track, and she’ll be strong at the end.
Nothing wrong with the way 2 Emerald Kingdom (Bet Now: $8.00) is going at the moment. Surprised many with his BRC Sprint triumph but he proved it was no fluke in the Stradbroke when beaten only 1.9L by Tofane, who of course went on to win the Tatts Tiara next start. That form is A1 for this.
4 Scallopini (Bet Now: $17.00) is an O’Dea/Hoysted trained gelding that was heavily supported when resuming in the Moreton Cup a few weeks ago. Thought he had a decent enough run in transit but couldn’t finish it off and was plain late behind Baller. Fitter and up in trip, he can bounce back for sure.
Race 9. (17:30) Sun Coast Bus. Solutiions-bm75 1400m
8 Shijin (Bet Now: $12.00) is a swimmer and does tend to only run well for Maddie Wishart, who is on here. He ran over 1350m at Doomben last time out when near the speed and fighting on strongly when a narrow second to East Asia. Was a month between runs there, so he’ll improve, he’ll be on speed and giving his all.
12 East Asia(Bet Now: $3.30) did win that race mentioned above and the win had plenty of merit to it given Shijin was on speed and booted clear, looking home, but this girl knuckled down strongly to wear her down. Where she gets to in the run from the draw is an unknown but she’s obviously hard to beat.
9 Spirit Esprit (Bet Now: $8.00) has home track advantage and that should hold him in good stead. Garnett Taylor trained gelding that is several weeks between runs since bolting up over 1400m at Rockhampton. He had class on his side and he was much too good. Harder here, but confident he measures up.
