A bumper program of racing at the Gold Coast will take place this Saturday where it is Jewel Day. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:18) Hit 90.9 Bianca,dan & Ben-bm75 1200m
14 So Taken (Bet Now: $5.00) loves to get her toe in and I think she finds a perfect race. Chris Waller trained mare that has been racing well in Sydney, but just not quite measuring up to being a winning threat so think this will be her future this part of the world and she finds a very winnable assignment.
12 Pull Anchor (Bet Now: $4.50) is getting close to D-Day for her. She’s been hard in the market her past few and while she has run well, she has let punters down, getting beat at $2.30 and $2.90 her past couple. Just got far too back last time under a negative ride. Significant jockey upgrade and is a leading chance.
The weather forecast will determine the winning chances of 5 Tardis (Bet Now: $16.00). IMO, she is a mare who is far more effective on dry ground, so she wants an improving track. Found a near bottomless track fresh at Doomben in a field of five and didn’t fire a shot behind King Klaus. She’s better than that and deserves another chance.
Race 2. (13:53) Sky Racing Plate (c6) 1100m
10 Say Haya (Bet Now: $9.50) looks to have returned in good order for Tony Gollan. Resumed over 1000m at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago and worked to the line strongly from the back when a narrow second to Chivargo. He does seem more effective at 1000m but is proven beyond it. Hard to beat.
Could well be a case of jump and run with 3 Kylease (Bet Now: $2.10). This mare hasn’t done much wrong since coming to Queensland. She found out three weeks ago how long the Eagle Farm straight is. Looked all over a winner but couldn’t quite finish it off and was nabbed late by Invincible Al. Back to this set up looks more ideal.
13 Defence Missile (Bet Now: $41.00) is a must to have a speck at big odds because he is a swimmer and he does have a solid record without winning here. Just got caught wide last time at the Sunny Coast and couldn’t finish it off behind Chivargo. Better suited here with the claim and is a knockout hope at big odds.t.
Race 3. (14:28) Martin Collins Hcp 900m
Concede the weight is a slight issue, but 1 Sugar Boom (Bet Now: $1.80) is just a speed demon and her go in life is short course racing so 900m fresh looks perfect for a kick off point. What you see is what you get. She just jumps and runs, breaking their hearts. There is depth to this, but hoping her sustained speed comes to the fore.
3 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $4.60) tends to save his best for this track/distance. He’s been a beauty for Barry Lockwood for a number of seasons and comes here in winning form having won last Saturday here. Once he found the front and got control, it was race over. He’ll give a sight. Just not sure about the class factor.
9 Hallsidehankypanky (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented filly for Jason Edwards that deserves a crack in town. Whether it’s at this level I’m not too sure, but she is a girl who can run a strong short course race from the front, as seen when bolting up over 800m at Ipswich last time. I wouldn’t be totally dismissing her.
Race 4. (15:07) Gold Coast Stakes 1800m
Back up in trip, I like 2 Ligulate (Bet Now: $3.00). I thought he was enormous in the Members Cup at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago. He was 1800m back to the mile and just had far too much to do from the back, but he finished off his race with real purpose. Now back up in trip, keen on him running well.
5 Sir Barnabus (Bet Now: $7.00) is the one with upside and timing. Needed the run fresh behind Dissolution before remaining at the mile in the Members Cup and was good late from the back when a close up third to Hail Manhattan. Gets to a more ideal trip and has more upside than most. Hard to beat.
11 Miss Redoble (Bet Now: $16.00) is an interesting runner. Tracey Bartley trained mare that comes up from NSW with solid enough metro form without jumping up and down. Latest effort behind On The White Turf at Canterbury was sound and she’s a mare who loves wet ground, so she gets conditions to suit.
Race 5. (15:47) Australian Turf Club Trophy 1400m
A bit of give in the track should be okay for 5 Socialising (Bet Now: $1.80) and she is just flying at the moment for the Gollan camp. Has won her past two, the latest coming four weeks ago at Doomben when a dominant winner over 1200m. 1400m is a query with her, but she’s in form and has change up speed.
1 The Candy Man (Bet Now: $4.50) is the class runner of the field and it will carry him a long way here. They threw him in the deep end, contesting the Sydney Spring, and really, he just didn’t measure up to that lot. Better suited at this level, he’s a bomb fresh, trialled well and is a swimmer.
4 Junction (Bet Now: $8.50) can be a definite improver here at odds. He resumed a fortnight back at the Sunny Coast over 1200m and while he was never really a winning threat, I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind Doctor Zous. Has a decent enough second up record and got more upside than most.
Race 6. (16:28) QTIS Jewel 2yo 1200m
You’d think only bad luck beats 7 Sweet Dolly (Bet Now: $1.55). Resumed in the Prelude two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast where she was against a hard fit and talented filly in Glorious Ruby. Sweet Dolly made an absolute mess of them and won with such class and authority. All she has to do is run out the 1200m strongly and she wins.
1 Gemelon Bolt (Bet Now: $5.50) looks the best of the boys given he took out the Boys Prelude. He was on speed throughout and when clicked up by Rodd, away he went and was dominant. Overall time was significantly slower than that Sweet Dolly ran, and with that girl having more upside, can’t see him winning, but runs well.
8 Mishani Enchanted (Bet Now: $16.00) lacks the class of some of these, but the thing going for her is ticker. She has plenty of it. Strong winner three weeks ago at Eagle Farm when just holding off The Stifmeister, who won last Saturday, so the form reads well and the 1200m should be no issue for her.
Race 7. (17:12) Military Rose Plate 1200m
7 Chivargo (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Darryl Hansen trained mare that is just low flying this time in. Her last couple of wins have been quite impressive, winning two back over 1200m at Eagle Farm before coming back to 1000m at the Sunny Coast where she produced a brilliant finale to wear them down late. Back up in trip, just has to hold her form to go close once again.
9 Gem Of Scotland (Bet Now: $5.50) is a leading contender here. Rex Lipp trained mare that was first up in just under 12 months when racing over 1200m at the Sunny Coast. Just hit a flat spot when the sprint went on but loved the way she picked up late in the piece. Provided there is no second up syndrome, she’s one of the hardest to beat.
8 Euro Belle (Bet Now: $14.00) has home track advantage and that should help her cause, especially on testing ground. Been freshened up since a run at Doomben where really, Cowan gave the mare none in a pretty ordinary steer I thought. Massive jockey upgrade this time around and tuned up with a sharp trial win.
Race 8. (17:52) QTIS Jewel 3yo 1200m
13 Miami Fleiss (Bet Now: $2.40) looks a potential rising star of Queensland racing. I personally thought she would have run well in a Group l Surround so with that in mind, clearly she’s the one for me here. Freshened up since a stunning win at Doomben and she’s destined for better races, starting with here.
3 Simply Fly (Bet Now: $14.00) has just been a different horse since they have ridden him cold. 3/3 this time in, all coming over 1000m at the Sunny Coast. Each time he was ridden cold, got towards clear air and unleashed a powerful finale to win. The way he is racing, he should have no issue with 1200m and is clearly one of the hardest to beat.
A rise to 1200m should suit 4 Tumbler Ridge (Bet Now: $81.00). Resumed two weeks ago over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where he was back near last in the run and was never really a winning threat but did make up headway late in the piece and was a definite pass mark. Lone second up run saw him and a truly run 1200m helps his cause.
Race 9. (18:32) Canadian Club Benchmark 85 Han 1300m
I saw enough in the resumption of 15 Amicitia (Bet Now: $4.40) to give her another chance. Resumed over 1000m at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago in what was more or less a barrier trial for her, but I liked the way she closed off very late behind a very much in form Chivargo. Fitter, up to 1300m and is a winner at the track, so she has a bit going for her.
4 Epic Girl (Bet Now: $4.60) has the talent and ability to take out a race like this and her last start was encouraging. That came at the Sunny Coast when near the speed throughout and battling away strongly when second to impressive winner Doctor Zous. Hard to beat on a track she likes racing at.
3 Elixir (Bet Now: $8.50) is on the quick back up for Les Kelly after racing over 1100m here last Saturday. He was back off a moderate speed and tried hard, but just no match for an form I’ve Gotta Nel. That was his first run in a few weeks, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement and saves his best for his home track here.
