13/8/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Belmont, Belmont Newmarket day

The Belmont Winter Carnival continues on Saturday where it is HG Bolton Sprint Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

7 Currimundi (Bet Now: $3.70) on top. Steve Wolfe trains this lightly raced four year old, who handled the step up in trip to 1400m last time at Pinjarra, coming with a well timed run to nail them near the peg in a good performance. He’s got good upside and the late splits from that win relative to the meeting were strong.

8 Gold Merits (Bet Now: $11.00) is on the seven day back up for Jim Taylor after racing here last Saturday, where she was in the best ground nearer the inside behind the speed and battled on pretty well when third to Hibiscus Lady. Like her on the back up and this is a winnable race.

10 Convalesce (Bet Now: $31.00) doesn’t mind getting his toe into the track and first up in town tells me there is intent. He resumes, having not raced since April 1 at Albany when plain behind Ginger Green. He can sprint well fresh and his recent trial was a good piece of work. One for wider mutliples, especially with the wet track and down in the weights.

2 The Great Hoya (Bet Now: $13.00) looks the map horse and the way this track has been playing, I think he’s the one. Last couple of runs have come over 1200m here, the latest seeing him sit on speed and he looked the winner but was nabbed near the peg. He’s hard fit, in form and back to 1000m should see him prove quite strong late.

1 Revitup (Bet Now: $2.50) is one of the better short course youngsters in WA. Bolted up at this track/distance last time, showing the customary sustained speed from the front. Wide gate, but will roll forward and prove hard to run down on a track that will suit the pattern.

7 Platinum Class (Bet Now: $34.00) is suited back to 1000m. She contested the same 1200m race that The Great Hoya ran second in. Platinum Class was a keen leader and just felt the pinch late. I think back in trip will be ideal, she will be near the speed and is a knockout hope.

8 Spirited Session (Bet Now: $5.50) looks to have come back in really good order. 2/2 this time in, the latest being at this track/distance two weeks ago when sitting just off the speed and coming with a well timed run to nail the win. Good test here, but he’s the one with hard fitness and clearly a liking for heavy ground.

3 Comes A Time (Bet Now: $3.50) is a son of Sessions for Michael Grantham that resumes. He hasn’t raced since April 9 at Ascot when sitting on speed and was there to win but couldn’t quite get there when second to Staralign. Blinkers off for the return tells me this could be a prep run, but the trial was good and the small field helps.

7 Timely Outburst (Bet Now: $3.80) tends to race well with fresh legs and he has that here. Hasn’t raced since June 25 here when near the speed and just feeling the pinch late behind Puli. He’s a bomb fresh horse and I think with his absolute best, he could be dangerous and is a definite threat.

4 Flower In The Wind (Bet Now: $2.60) is on top but not a great deal of confidence. Was really keen on her in the Olden race from a fortnight back but she really struggled in the conditions and failed to pick up when down the track. I think the track drying out is a big tick for her and she has the class factor.

8 Alimentaria (Bet Now: $4.20) is a swimmer so she’ll get conditions to suit, especially if the rain comes on the day. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and gave a solid kick from the front but was nabbed late by Olden. She’s wet track or bust, so with a wet track, she commands respect.

3 Alterno (Bet Now: $14.00) has won up to 2000m so I think 2100m is okay for him. Ran over the mile here last time out where he got a fair way out of his ground but was good late in the piece behind The Velvet Queen. Tick over trial win was a good piece of work and off last start, he’s a knockout chance.

4 Classic Rogue (Bet Now: $3.80) on top. Steve Wolfe trained gelding that was a dominant winner at this track/distance two weeks ago, seemingly lapping up the mud in a commanding display. That was his first run in a month, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement. Hard to beat.

8 Speedy Miss (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Team Pearce trained mare who hasn’t won in a long time, but is knocking on the door. Ran second to Classic Rogue a fortnight back and she tried her guts out, but was just no match late for Classic Rogue. With a weight pull, she does command respect.

The Casey team had a few options for 10 No Change (Bet Now: $10.00) this week but they elect to run here in what is probably the strongest option, so whether that is stable confidence, not sure. He was 1400m back to 1200m two weeks back here and was okay late in the piece behind Dorado. Jumps straight to the mile, but has won up to 1500m when in Victoria, so don’t pen him.

6 Cash Away (Bet Now: $6.00) looks, potentially, the best of this lot. He is a gelding that is doing plenty wrong but clearly has an engine under the hood, as seen when winning at Pinjarra last time out, doing plenty wrong but he was still much too good. Blinkers first time, gate one, wet track experience, he’s the way to go.

5 State Of Power (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Simon Miller trained mare who has done little wrong throughout her career. Ran over this track/distance last time out where he was back, wide with cover and worked to the line with real purpose late when second to Spirited Session. With luck from the gate, she’ll take beating.

4 Ghost Who Walks (Bet Now: $6.50) is clearly knocking on the door to win. Ran third in the Spirited Session race mentioned above where he got back off the speed and chased strongly, being as game as ever when third. Needs luck from the draw, but with a drag into the race, he’ll be dangerous.

5 Buster Bash (Bet Now: $8.00) might need one more run, but he finds a very winnable race IMO. Resumed over 1200m here two weeks ago where he looked like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out when fourth to all the way winner Nowhiteflag. Fitter, up to 1400m, he gets a much better set up and Harvey sticks.

7 Probity (Bet Now: $2.70) has come back in really goorder for Team Pearce. 2/2 this time in, winning a 0MW race fresh, clocking good late splits. He then went here a fortnight back and was dominant from off the speed, again clocking fast late splits. He’s flying and deserves a crack at this level.

4 Brooklyn Pier (Bet Now: $10.00) is a very interesting runner. Neville Parnham trained gelding that resumes and 1400m first up tells me he’s ready to rock and roll. He hasn’t raced since April 16 at Ascot when down the track behind Kia Ora Star, producing an end of prep run. Trialled well leading in and tends to save his best for when produced fresh.

4 Hot Zed (Bet Now: $4.20) for me in the Newmarket. He’s third up here for the Luciani camp and seems primed to run well. Ran in the HG Bolton Sprint last time and tried his guts out from near the speed but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Resortman. Hard fit now and with an ideal map, he’ll do me.

5 Resortman (Bet Now: $2.80) can be hit and miss, but he’s come back in super order. Closing third to Nerodio fresh in the Beaufine before going to the Bolton where he came with a well timed run from off the speed to wear down Hot Zed and record an impressive win. He’s got room for improvement and is clearly a key threat.

3 Great Again (Bet Now: $19.00) has a fab record at Belmont and despite getting on in years, he’s a first four contender. He was several weeks between runs and having start one for the new camp when contesting the HG Bolton and battled away really well behind Resortman. Knockout chance with his best.

3 Mercano (Bet Now: $6.50) is the one they have to beat. This guy is just over two weeks between runs since letting down with a powerful finale from the back to prove too good for them in an impressive display. This race looks weaker, he’s in form, handles wet ground…he’ll do me.

4 River Rubicon (Bet Now: $3.40) has credits in the bank to forgive the down the track resumption behind Mercanto. She got into a sticky spot from the wide gate and was just never a factor. She did a really good job in the Autumn, and had trialled well leading into the return, so I am not dismissing her.

1 Kia Ora Star (Bet Now: $18.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. He resumed behind Mercanto when near the speed throughout and felt the pinch late when down the track. If this track is playing towards those on speed, I think he comes into the mix as a knockout hope at a big price.

BEST BET: Race Three Number 8 Spirited Session

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 4 Classic Rogue

LONG SHOT: Race Two Number 2 The Great Hoya
