Race 1. (11:20) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1300m
6 Zaru (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is flying for Joseph Burges. He was very good against the pattern fresh during the Grafton Carnival before going to the Hgihway here two weeks ago where he was a mess in the yard and then even in the run, he had zero luck in the straight and should have fought the finish out. Hard fit and up to 1300m, if he parades well and gets better luck in the run, he can take this out.
4 Daksha (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) has returned in good order and is a proven Highway performer. He resumed over 1200m at Tamworth and was very good late when closing off to run a narrow second to Anubis. Good second up record and go back to previous Highway form, one day he ran third to Golden Gorge and Shelby Sixtysix. That clearly reads well.
9 King’s Trust (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is a Highway veteran that always has to be respected at this level. He ran in the Molly Nails a fortnight back where he got back to near last in the run where he was never really a winning threat but really liked the way he finished his race off behind the Matty Dale mare. If he can sit closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 2. (11:55) Dooleys (Bm72) 1300m
The Spring Champion is still a fair way off, but if I was to speck one for that race early, it would be 7 Major Beel (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS). This GaiBott three year old is by Savabeel out of an O’Reilly mare, so 2000m+ is his go in life down the track, but the fact he is showing dash over the shorter trips to start his career tell me he’s pretty good. The other big tick, and more important tick, is that he’s a line chaser. Good on debut at Goulburn before really knuckling down strongly to win at Wyong. Lacks the class of some of these, but he makes up for it with ticker.
1 Showcourt (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) is a quality for Chris Waller that resumes. He did a pretty good job in the Autumn. Should have won the Todman but had zero luck. Missed out on the Slipper so he was freshened up for the Sires but the track was too wet. The recent trial was poor to the eye, but I think it was a trial with good depth with up and comers ready to go. Not sure he’s 100% ready to go, but he has class/quality.
5 Stonecoat (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) is three weeks between runs for the GaiBott camp since racing on the absolute bottomless track at Randwick where he struggled to pick his feet up in the conditions but battled on well enough when second to True Crime. I think 1300m will be fine, and he’ll love firmer footing.
Race 3. (12:30) Midway (Bm72) 1400m
12 Onemore Sapphire (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) is better suited over further but he’s a handy horse when right for Tracey Bartley and can pull out a decent run fresh. He hasn’t raced since April 22 at Tamworth over 2100m when placing behind Mandalong Tapit, working to the line well. Trialled up really well alongside Hosier, and we saw what he did in the Coffs Cup, so watch the market.
5 Belle Espoir (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is a key threat. Bumped into a star in Frumos two back at Newcastle before going to the Midway here a fortnight back where she was ridden with a sit and worked to the line pretty well late in the piece behind Contributingfactor. Off that effort, she commands respect.
Best version of 10 Oakfield Arrow (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) is capable. Just a matter of where she is at. Led and tired late fresh here on an absolute bog in a Midway behind Monte Ditto before going to the Mother’s Gift on Grafton Cup Day where she was smashed in betting but after getting a soft lead, she dropped right out. Her best is good enough.
Race 4. (13:05) Cabramatta Bowling Club (Bm88) 1200m
6 Conscript (Bet Now: $2.50 TOP ODDS) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. He was a real eye catcher first up behind the enigma that is Hulk. He then bounced on the bunny at Randwick a few weeks back, where he got control and the race was over before the turn in a dominant display. Hard to beat once again.
5 Katalin (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) is the huge query here. I think if she’s ready to go, she wins the race, but that confidence will be hit if the rain comes with purpose on Saturday because she is a bomb dry track horse but getting her feet wet, she struggles. Last start came in the Abell at The Valley in March and IMO, a half decent steer from J Kah and she goes close to beating In The Boat, a potential Group l talent. Trialled super leading in. Just want a dry deck for her.
4 Dream Circle (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) it hit and miss but his best is clearly good enough to give this a shake. He ran over 1100m here two weeks back and was very good from near last on the turn when a close up fourth to Easy Single. He was 1400m back to 1100m so bakc up to 1200m, he appeals.
Race 5. (13:40) Campbelltown Catholic Clb-Bm78 1400m
5 Frumos (Bet Now: $1.95) picks herself. She’s a Group l horse in the making. Whether it’s the Spring or in the Autumn/Winter, time will tell, but she’s outstanding. Put together a couple of arrogant wins at Newcastle before racing here four weeks ago and she did something similar. Tick over trial was good, she’ll likely be giving them a start, but like in her previous three starts/wins, she’ll give them a beating too.
1 Lunakorn (Bet Now: $21.00) should appreciate the fitness, the rise in trip and firmer footing compared to last Wednesday at Canterbury where she was first up on testing ground and actually battled away quite well behind Oxford Tycoon. Has a bit of quality at her best and is a dry tracker.
7 Hope In Your Heart (Bet Now: $19.00) is better suited over further, but she does have a bit of quality about her when right, so I rate her as a first four chance. Resumes for Kerry Parker, having not raced since the Autumn when having an Oaks prep, which finished with a down the track effort in the ATC Oaks. She’ll be strong late.
Race 6. (14:15) Bankstown Sports Hcp 1400m
7 Poetic Chamrer (Bet Now: $12.00) is a very consistent animal for Team Snowden that is rarely far away. He resumed at Randwick several weeks back behind Waihaha Falls and while he was never a winning threat, I liked the way he finished his race off behind the in form O’Shea galloper. Has good upside and a rise to 1400m suits.
1 Mugatoo (Bet Now: $7.50) is the class runner of the field and despite being first up in a long time, that class will carry him a long way. He resumes for Kris Lees, having not raced since the Doomben Cup last year when down the track behind Zaaki. He has had injury troubles, but has been kept on ice for several weeks, waiting for an idea kick off point. Watch the market and see what it does with him.
3 Oscar Zulu (Bet Now: $4.80) hasn’t won in a little while but that said, he’s racing really well and is clearly knocking on the door. Close up fourth two back behind Taksu in the Winter Stakes. He then went to the Winter Challenge and worked home well against the race shape behind Cross Talk. Hard to beat if he can sit closer in the run.
Race 7. (14:55) C'bury-Hurlstone Pk Rsl (Bm78) 1800m
5 Lovely Esteem (Bet Now: $3.00) looks the one to beat. This Chris Waller trained imported mare has steadily got better with three runs down under, the latest being two weeks ago at this track/distance where she loomed to win but couldn’t quite get the win when a close up third to Elusive Jewel. If she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating.
11 Kirkeby (Bet Now: $11.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but I think is racing well enough for Chris Waller to give this a shake. Close up behind Wicklow a fortnight back, trying his guts out to finish just under two lengths away from the stablemate. Commands respect against these.
9 Rondino (Bet Now: $14.00) should appreciate a rise to 1800m. Greg Hickman trained gelding that was an impressive winner at the midweeks at Warwick Farm, saving ground nearer the inside and in a slog to the line, he finished late and was impressive. He’s racing as if 1800m will be ideal and should be strong late.
Race 8. (15:35) The Rosebud 1100m
11 Zoukerino (Bet Now: $5.00) is the one on the up and has the recent run under the belt. Lot to like about his debut win on the Kenso track at Randwick where he made a mess of them on the heavy track, getting better as the race went on. Tick over trial was very good behind Kibou, he maps ideally and I think does have a bit of quality.
1 Sebonack (Bet Now: $4.80) is the class runner of the field and commands respect. He resumes for Team Hawkes, having not raced since the Golden Slipper where he was a total forgive with the bog track and sitting four/five wide for the trip. Two trials to get ready, the latest against open horses, so he’s had the grounding to win this fresh. Watch the market.
7 Miss Hellfire (Bet Now: $7.50) is dangerous. She has looked outstanding in a couple of trials to get ready for her return, the latest at Randwick when seemingly jogging out the back before easing wider and letting down strongly under no pressure to run second to stablemate Ebhaar. She is one juvenile who missed the wet Sydney Autumn, so she commands respect.
Race 9. (16:15) Clubsnsw (Bm78) 1400m
I’m with 6 Loveplanet (Bet Now: $9.00) in a tricky race. He had several jumpouts in Melbourne prior to resuming last Saturday at Randwick in what turned out to be another trial given the race shape, where the leader and eventual winner absolutely crawled in front. Loveplanet was back and never a factor. Love Waller horses on the back up and up to 1400m, more genuine tempo, he can bounce back.
8 Kalino (Bet Now: $1.90) is a stablemate of Loveplanet that is racing well. He ran here a fortnight back and worked to the line pretty well from off the speed when fourth to impressive winner Pizarro, who ran okay last Saturday in the race mentioned above behind Yukon. J Mac sticks, hard fit and in form.
1 Opacity (Bet Now: $16.00) has the runs on the board to give this a shake. His form has mainly been in 88 races and better. He ran in a 78 two weeks ago here over 1300m in his second run for Joe Pride and he was very good late in the piece behind dominant winner Sur La Mer. Back up in trip, and with class, he’ll take beating.
Race 10. (16:55) Guildford Leagues (Bm78) 1100m
5 Shades Of Rose (Bet Now: $1.50) is a mare with good talent for Bjorn Baker. Poor ride cost her the win two back but she got a significant jockey upgrade two weeks ago with J Mac on and the end result was a spank job win. If she can build off that, she’s clearly the one to beat again.
2 The Big Easy (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Maher/Eustace trained gelding who seems to thrive with the month between runs and that he is here, his latest run being four weeks back here when surging hard late to wear down Shades Of Rose, having the more economical run and finishing best. Harder here, but he’s genuine and will be strong late.
9 Cloudy (Bet Now: $11.00) has a bit of class on her side and that will carry her a fair distance. She resumed in the Ojosan race from a few weeks back at Caulfield where she was wide throughout and actually did a good job to stick on as well as she did when third. Better luck this time around, she can win for sure.
