Nine races have been set down for Belmont this Saturday for Belmont Newmarket Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:42) AMELIA PARK LODGE PLATE 1400m
This could be the worst non maiden Saturday metro race I’ve come across. Throw at the stumps with 7 Flower In The Wind (Bet Now: $4.80), who really caught the eye on debut here last Wednesday when back in the run and closing off hard late to run third. Less convictions than most and will be strong late.
3 Secret Deploy (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Dash For Cash for Adam Durrant that is on debut. He’s had several trials to get ready for start one and has steadily got better with each trial under the belt. Given the lack of depth engaged, he has to command respect.
1 Gorgeous Gossip (Bet Now: $18.00) is the lone winner of the field. Ran here last Saturday when back off the speed and just whacking away behind The Front Bar. If she brings her best, she can be around the mark, but been a while since she has produced something near her best.
Race 2. (14:22) FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PK-BM78+ 2100m
5 Zaratite (Bet Now: $1.65) is getting towards last chance territory. That was probably the case last start when second to Treasured Crown but I just hope he gets a firmer deck now, and the lead is that Pike is sticking. One last chance in what is clearly a two horse race, again.
4 Treasured Crown (Bet Now: $2.25) is absolutely flying at the moment and can definitely win again. He is looking to make it four on the bounce, the latest coming when beating Zaratite in that race mentioned above. He will be hard to beat. Just depends whether he can handle a potentially firmer deck.
What to do with 1 Come Play With Me (Bet Now: $11.00). If he brings anything near his best, he would spank these. Problem is he hasn’t done that in some time, but a couple of recent trials suggest he could be back on track, so I think watch the market and see what it does.
Race 3. (15:02) TABTOUCH-WESTSPEED (RS0MW) 1400m
1 Speedy Miss (Bet Now: $4.60) is a hard horse to catch but her best is certainly good enough to take this out and the big tick is getting back in grade. Forgive the last start effort when wide no cover for the trip. If that hasn’t busted her, she will take some beating here.
2 Blazing Away (Bet Now: $2.15) is looking to make it three on the bounce for David Harrison. Two back was too good at Pinjarra. Then raced here last time out when on speed and was there to be beaten but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Harder here, but hard to knock the way she’s going.
3 Beat The Bell (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Sharon Miller trained mare that resumes. Her last run came over 2000m at Bunbury where she was at the end of her prep, looked a tired horse and wanted the paddock. Can pull out a decent run fresh and this race is a bit thin re depth.
Race 4. (15:42) SILK VENEER PANELS (BM66+) 1400m
I’m going the way of 1 Ouqba Ted (Bet Now: $9.00). This guy is first up, having not raced since Feb 6 when down the track over 2000m at Pinjarra on Magic Millions Day. Two trials to get ready have been strong and he does have a bit of class on his side compared to most of these.
3 Nobel Laurence (Bet Now: $1.85) is three weeks between runs since getting a lively ground saving ride and finishing best to get the job done under heavy riding. He’s got upside to come you would assume and has to rate highly in what looks a winnable race.
2 No Apology (Bet Now: $5.00) is a five year old for Stephen Miller that resumes. This guy last raced on May 8 at Ascot when placing over 1800m behind Cockney Crew. Trialled well leading and if they overdo it in front, he will be charging at them late.
Race 5. (16:22) CROWN PERTH (RS1MW) 1000m
This might only be a 1MW race, but there is good depth to it. Leaning the way of 6 Bedouin Belle (Bet Now: $12.00), a Lou Luciani trained mare who has been a real model of consistency this time in and is knocking on the door to win. Gets in well after the claim and should lob into a lovely spot from the draw.
2 Olga Luisa (Bet Now: $5.00) has sustained speed and that should carry her a long way towards victory. Far from disgraced at benchmark level last time out in a race which had far more depth than what she faces here, and with her racing pattern, she will give herself every chance.
9 Hell’s Belle (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Rhys Radford trained mare that resumes. Hasn’t raced since April 3 when running last at Ascot behind Iseered Iseered in a race where the depth was far stronger than what she faces here. Looks to have trialled well leading in and early on in the prep is best for her.
Race 6. (17:05) DEVIL'S LAIR (BM72+) 1600m
5 Picture Perfect (Bet Now: $3.90) gets Blinkers first time and that could well spark improvement from this six year old, who has been solid in two runs back from a spell. Both runs this time in have seen him run fourth to The Spruiker, the last start seemingly with every chance. Pike sticks and Blinkers first time is hopefully enough.
2 Lonsdale Lady (Bet Now: $3.30) is five weeks between runs for the McDonagh camp since winning impressively over the mile here, beating home Zaratite, who hasn’t won this prep, but is racing well, so the form reads solid enough I feel and she does seem effective when getting her toe in so she wants the rain to come about.
4 Born To Try (Bet Now: $5.50) is better suited over further, but she is such a genuine mare for Lindsey Smith that is rarely far away from the thick end of the prize. Enormous win from the back seven weeks back over 2200m here in what was a real driving go late. She’ll get back and be strong at the end.
Race 7. (17:40) PRIVE FASHION PLATFORM (BM72+) 1200m
I’m giving 8 Silkinize (Bet Now: $5.00) another chance. Was on his back last Saturday when he raced here and to the eye, I thought it was just a run behind Starfield Impact. He remains down in the weights and I think the rise to 1200m is a positive. The other tick is that he has found a winnable race.
1 Don’t Fuss (Bet Now: $8.00) is a little query at 1200m but one thing he does have going for him is class. Ran over 1000m here two weeks ago and tried very hard to reel in Mervyn, but that horse is a flat track bully. Once he finds the front and has control, he’s near impossible to get past and that was the case again. Off that run, 1200m should be okay.
3 Little Fish (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Luke Fernie trained gelding that is three weeks between runs. He resumed here where he paraded like he would need the run and that is how it panned out, his condition just giving way. Potentially heading towards the Hannans at Kalgoorlie, so would want to put in a forward showing here.
Race 8. (18:15) HEINEKEN-BELMONT NEWMARKET 1200m
1 Indian Pacific (Bet Now: $2.50) has to lump the 61.5kg but the reason for that is that he has lengths on these re class and that should carry him. He had a very good prep in the Autumn in Melbourne in some high quality races. He went like a jet in a recent trial and only bad luck beats him despite the weight and gate.
10 Pym’s Royale (Bet Now: $11.00) looks to be in for a really good prep. Resumed three weeks ago in the HG Bolton and his finale from the back was excellent, clocking good late splits, and post race was found to have cast two plates, adding further merit. If he’s within range on the turn, he’s good enough to win.
3 Malibu Style (Bet Now: $27.00) is an absolute beauty for Neville Parnham that resumes. Ten years of age, his best is probably behind him but I still think he has enough in the locker to be more than competitive here. Liked his trial last week behind Indian Pacific and should lob into a lovely spot from the gate.
Race 9. (18:55) HAPPY 60TH BDAY M WALKER-RS1MW 1600m
Interesting that Pike doesn’t steer 10 Brave Dream (Bet Now: $4.00) here, but having CJP on is certainly no negative. Cab very easily make a case to say she should have won here three weeks ago under Pike. No luck in the straight when seemingly full of running. If she gets the rub of the green, she can take this out.
Pike is sticking with 1 Aberdeen Queen (Bet Now: $3.20). He rode her last Saturday and to the eye, the run was okay, but breaking down the splits, it was a beauty. She had no chance given how slow they went, so she did a great job to get as close as she did. She’s bursting to win a race and the positive is definitely Pike sticking.
5 Seminole Brave (Bet Now: $26.00) should be suited up to the mile. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1300m. Was trucking in the run and 400m out looked the winner, but couldn’t quite finish it off and condition gave out. Like him up in trip and his best is good enough.
