15/1/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gold Coast, Magic Millions Classic day

The biggest and best race day on the Queensland racing calendar is Magic Millions Day at the Gold Coast and the 2021 edition rolls around this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out 1.5 metres from the 900m-400m; True for the remainder.

9 Warmth (Bet Now: $2.90 TOP ODDS) looks to have had the right grounding for this race fresh. Team Snowden trained mare that resumes after a three run Winter prep where she was runner up each time. Given a really strong hit out in a recent Rosehill trial win over 1030m, which for mine should leave her cherry ripe for this.

John O’Shea had a couple nominated for this but goes with the sole rep in 11 Carartie (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS). Has placed in all three runs this time in, the latest coming at Canterbury around a month ago when third to Russians. Tick over trial was a good piece of work and maps well from the draw.

2 Chart Buster (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) is a Team Hayes four year old that resumes. He has placed in four of his six career outings, including his two runs during the Spring. Trialled up really well here last week in good time and stable is having a really good run of form in recent times, so he’s in this with a big shout.

The weight is a concern, but I’m quite keen here on 1 Reloaded (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS). Race shape and wet track was against him in the Bernborough last time out but really liked the way he finished his race off behind stablemate Kubrick. 1800m tick, firmer track tick and class edge tick. Only runs well IMO.

2 Wheelhouse (Bet Now: $2.50 TOP ODDS) is on the seven day back up for Chris Waller after a strong win at this track/distance last Saturday in The Wave where he was wide and doing work throughout but class came to the fore and got the win. Now he has that win on the board, he could well go on with it.

7 Green Jacket (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) can be an improver here at odds. Team Edmonds trains this gelding, who last raced over 2000m at Doomben when back in the run and stayed on okay behind subsequent Stakes winner So You Win. Liked his recent tick over trial win and back to 1800m is a big tick.

Think it’s safe to say that there is a tail to this race…a very long tail. 1 Parry Sound (Bet Now: $2.60 TOP ODDS) is coming off a last start Stakes win and is suited up to 2400m so I think he’s the way you have to go here. Surprised some with his Summer Cup win but he was strong to the line and was only third up, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement.

2 Wapiti (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) has been up forever it seems like but is racing in such good form for Gary Duncan. Latest run came two weeks ago in the Shoot Out where he looked the winner when Taylor Marshall pushed the button but got the staggers late and was nabbed by Smart Meteor. 2400m has to be a query but as a whole, this is a very thin race.

11 Etheridge (Bet Now: $61.00 TOP ODDS) is part of the long tail but she’s got upside to come and should have little trouble with the trip. Completely unwanted in betting at Gosford in her first run for Blake Ryan but I didn’t think she was too bad in defeat. That was 1900m and I do think a rise to 2400m is a plus.

7 Snapdancer (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) to get redemption from 12 months ago. She ran a super race fresh in the Razor Sharp, only getting bloused late by Special Reward. She has been set for this race for a few months now and the tick over trial suggests she’s ready to rock and roll in this race.

8 Brookspire (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) is the map horse from gate one. Interesting she comes back to 1300m after racing over the mile in the Belle Of The Turf at Gosford last time where she was given a peach from Bowman but couldn’t reel in Expat, finishing a narrow second. Think this is more her trip. Just depends what is left in the tank.

11 Van Giz (Bet Now: $71.00 TOP ODDS) has done little wrong in two runs back from a spell. Bjorn Baker trained mare that ran over 1000m on the Kenso a fortnight back and closed off pretty well from a fair way back in the run when third to Dragonstone. Hard fit now and up to 1300m, she’s one for exotics.

The class and brilliance of 14 Isotope (Bet Now: $3.50) can’t be ignored and I think she wins. High quality galloper for Tony Gollan that hasn’t raced since The Championships at Randwick in the Arrowfield Sprint where she should have won but had no luck in the straight. Dodged the Winter and Spring in preference for this and loved the way she moved in a recent Doomben trial.

2 Baller (Bet Now: $7.00) looks primed to run well for Tony Gollan. Has had three runs back from a break, the latest coming in the Falvelon where he looked the winner but was nabbed late by Roheryn. That was on a truly wet track and he’s far better on top of the ground. He’s hard to beat here.

Market will be fascinating with 5 Superium (Bet Now: $26.00), who resumes for Team Hawkes. Ended last prep with a Stakes win, taking out the Hinkler during the Brisbane Winter Carnival. He’s had a couple of trials to get ready for his return and I really liked his recent trial win at Rosehill. I think he’s ready to go.

The weight is a mighty ask for 1 Kementari (Bet Now: $6.50) but he has that for a reason. He is the class runner, and by some distance. N Rawiller magic got him the win in The Buffering to qualify him for this race. He’ll be better on a firmer deck and fitter, up to 1400m, I think he’s the one they have to beat, clearly.

4 Eleven Eleven (Bet Now: $7.00) loves the Gold Coast and Magic Millions Day. He looked spot on after his win in The Warra on Gong Day, but was a tad on the plain side at Randwick in the Razor Sharp. He is back on track I feel after a strong trial win and he does tend to save his best for this day.

There was a bit of quality about the first up win of 11 Oscar Zulu (Bet Now: $19.00) at Randwick. Trialled up well leading and just got a peach from McEvoy, saving ground nearer the inside and was strong to the line in winning, suggesting a truly run 1400m here will be no issue and has got plenty of upside to come.

I can’t dive into the shorts about 9 Coolangatta (Bet Now: $1.90) but I can’t tip against her. 2/2 to start her career, producing a stunning display on debut in the Gimcrack before being freshened up and giving them a spanking in the BJ McLachlan, where she didn’t exactly smash the clock and the form looks suspect. But she was fresh and at 1200m. I think there’s improvement to come and a firmer track is a big tick.

11 Russian Conquest (Bet Now: $6.00) is another filly that is 2/2 to start her career. Didn’t beat a great deal on debut at Newcastle in the Max Lees Classic but she proved that was no fluke with a spank job on the Kenso track. Time was ordinary and she beat nothing, but maps super and has the Team Snowden polish.

If this becomes a brutal then 5 Golden Artie (Bet Now: $31.00) comes right into play and at big odds, I’ll be having something on him. He was off the bit at Doomben last time quite early but he ran through the pain barrier and surged hard late to win. 1200m no issue IMO. Just needs luck from the gate.

The dry track is a big, big tick for 3 King Of Sparta (Bet Now: $6.50) and the way he hits the line, I don’t see 1400m being an issue for him. Resumed in the Gosford Guineas where he got back and wide, but loomed to win. Just think condition gave out late when third to Bacchanalia. Better for the run, sits off a good speed, he’ll be strong late…think he only runs well.

2 Jamaea (Bet Now: $5.50) is the class of the field and that class will carry her a long way for Team Price. Hasn’t raced since the Golden Rose when far from disgraced in defeat behind In The Congo in what is shaping up to be a red hot form reference. Trialled up really well here last week and she’ll be charging at the end.

5 Far Too Easy (Bet Now: $15.00) has done little wrong in his six start career for David McColm. Too good for them two back in the Winning Rupert before going to the Gold Edition and he closed off pretty well from off the speed when third to Me Me Lagarde. Like him up in trip and should be strong late.

3 Wisdom Of Water (Bet Now: $7.50) has a clear class edge and I think that will be enough for him to get home. He was trucking in the run last time out at Wyong. Was just a matter of getting clear and once he did, he showed good change up speed nearer the inside, drove hard late and won. He’s the one they have to beat here in what is a weaker race compared to last start IMO.

7 Ef Troop (Bet Now: $11.00) is a dead set dry tracker so a firmer deck is right up his alley to produce a positive run fresh. Resumes for Tony Gollan, having not raced since August 27 when down the track here in the Goldmarket behind Desert Lord. Has trialled up super leading in and his best is certainly good enough.

9 Stuttering (Bet Now: $13.00) is an honest customer for Rob Heathcoate that should appreciate the step up to 1400m. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind Garibaldi. Then went to the Doomben 1350m and was good in defeat behind Wonderful Riri. Third up now so should be hard fit and is one for exotics.

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 7 Snapdancer

LONG SHOT: Race Two Number 1 Reloaded
