SA metro racing this Saturday heads to Murray Bridge. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1800m-1000m; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:47) Srs Security Services (bm86) 1000m
1 Shamino (Bet Now: $8.50) is unbeaten in two runs at Murray Bridge and I think returning to SA can spark improvement. Run off his legs in the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield and was never a factor behind an excitement machine, Marabi. This is the easiest race he has contested in ages, so an improved showing is on the cards.
3 Alleboom (Bet Now: $5.00) is a very honest animal for Team Jolly that will put himself on speed and give his all, which was the case down the Flemington straight last time where he battled on really well in defeat when third to the in form Scorched Earth. Back home in a winnable race, he appeals.
4 Brimarvi Vehero (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Sam Burford trained gelding that resumes. Hasn’t raced since August 28 on the Parks track when struggling on the bog track behind Free Of Debt. Has a good record at this track and looked sharp in a recent jumpout win, so I think he’s ready to go.
Race 2. (13:22) Happy Birthday Steve Ross-bm82 1600m
5 Our Destrier (Bet Now: $3.10) is looking to make it three on the bounce and I think he can here. He didn’t beat up a strong field here on New Years Day but it was the manner in which he spanked them was very impressive, making a mess of them with the 60kg. Harder here, but the way he’s racing, I think he can measure up.
1 Dexter You Devil (Bet Now: $3.20) is an absolute beauty for Shayne Cahill. Lumped a massive weight last Wednesday at Bordertown where he was unwanted in betting but in the end, class is permanent and it came to the fore with a strong win from off the speed. He has to be respected here.
6 Naseeb (Bet Now: $17.00) can be an improver at odds. Resumed last Wednesday at Bordertown where he got quite keen behind the speed, which was a crawl early, but picked up notably down the side and that set up was just awful for him, but he stayed on and was sound behind Dexter You Devil. Fitter, he can run a race at a price.
Race 3. (13:57) Tab Mdn Plate 1200m
7 Water Into Wine (Bet Now: $4.80) for me. Team McEvoy trained gelding that is on debut and I think has been given a good grounding. Had a Summer prep without a run, followed by a Winter prep without a run. Returns this time in with one trial, but he looked to move well and should get every chance here from the inside gate.
12 Samesyn (Bet Now: $3.80) is knocking on the door to break the maiden tag. Ran here two weeks ago and looked to be a winning threat when asked for the effort but had to settle for a close up second to Kasami, who was well placed by Henry Dwyer. With the light weight, expect a positive steer and give them something to chase.
8 Dame Gina (Bet Now: $17.00) should be better for the debut run, which came over 1000m here behind Kasami in the race mentioned above where she spotted them way too much head start and was never a factor but wasn’t too bad late in the piece. Fitter and up to 1200m, she can improve.
Race 4. (14:32) Fibre Track (bm62) 1200m
7 Belle Of Yorkes (Bet Now: $10.00) is likeable. Took on the older horses at this track/distance last time out where she got a mile out of her ground but was very good at the end behind Lianne. Hopefully can sit closer in the run and back to her own age with an in form Jacob Opperman to steer, she’s the one for me.
3 They Call Me Alvin (Bet Now: $7.00) is a key threat. Resumed over 1000m here two weeks ago and was quite good from off the speed when second to a very much in form Champagne Dreams. Failed at this trip as a juvenile but off what he did first up, 1200m here should be fine and is hard to beat.
5 Star Espresso (Bet Now: $16.00) is worth another look. On face value, I was disappointed with her effort behind Champagne Dreams in the race mentioned above won by Champagne Dreams, but watching the replay, she was nearer the inside and that wasn’t the spot to be. She’s better than that, so she gets another chance.
Race 5. (15:07) Carlton Draught (bm82) 2000m
1 Designer Chef (Bet Now: $4.60) has found that winning feeling again and is racing like further will suit, which is what he gets here. Aggressive steer from Willow over the mile at Flemington on New Years Day and it worked because the horse found under pressure and surged hard to finish best. He can win again.
6 Ourkhani (Bet Now: $7.00) certainly won’t be lacking in fitness and finds a very winnable race here I feel. Ran over 3000m at the Valley last time out where he seemed to have his chance and for mine, just found the 3000m a bridge too far when third to Guns Ablazing. Back to 2000m and back home, he’ll take beating.
If this becomes survival of the fittest, then 9 Turf Man (Bet Now: $23.00) comes into the mix. He was toughest and strongest late when winning over 2500m here two weeks back on New Years Day, finishing best in what was a real slog. If it’s a sit/sprint, he struggles, but a truly run 2000m sees him here with a shout.
Race 6. (15:47) Irongate (bm60) 1800m
The seven day back up with 4 Charm Slinga (Bet Now: $5.00) is a query but he looks to have more upside than most engaged here. Lot to like about his maiden win last Saturday at Gawler. Got held up and lost momentum but was able to pick up and surge the final 150m to win comfortably, with gaps to second and third. He’ll eat up 1800m here and be strong at the end.
11 Harbouring (Bet Now: $17.00) doesn’t win out of turn but is rarely far away. Ran over the mile at Murray Bridge last time out and worked home strongly from off the pace when second to dominant winner Our Destrier. He can be hit and miss in the run, he can hit a flat spot, but work home late, and suspect that’ll be the case here.
1 Busker’s Ballad (Bet Now: $15.00) should be suited up in trip. Resumed over the mile here two weeks back and while he was never a winning threat given the set up and where he was in the run, he was okay late in the piece. Might want another run or two, but he strikes a winnable race if he’s forward enough.
Race 7. (16:27) Jack & Henry West (bm72) 1400m
9 Angaston (Bet Now: $7.50) should love the rise to 1400m. Ran over 1200m three weeks back at Morphettville where he was last in the run and while he was never threatening, his finale was a definite pass mark I thought, beaten just over two lengths. Up to his preferred distance, he’s a knockout chance.
8 Poysed To Rein (Bet Now: $3.90) is a talented mare for Team Jolly that continued good fresh record when a strong winner at Morphettville on Boxing Day, finishing best from off the pace, nailing Vieira on the peg. She’s not normally as effective second up but this is a winnable race.
12 Night Passage (Bet Now: $6.00) comes here with relatively fresh legs, a few weeks between runs since a down the track effort at Sandown when on speed and feeling the pinch late behind Comanche Brave. Tricky draw, but prior form did read quite well for a race like this.
Race 8. (17:10) M.m. 5th March Book Now (bm68) 1200m
8 Comte (Bet Now: $10.00) will need luck given his racing pattern but I think Team Yargi has him going well. Ran at the Valley last time out and finished his race with real purpose when fourth to Rogue Star. Run prior was behind Gentleman Roy and that form has been gold in recent weeks. He’ll be charging late.
1 Dominus (Bet Now: $9.00) is four weeks between runs for Phillip Stokes since resuming with a spank job of his rivals at Gawler. Had jumped out well prior to the race and was met with market support late. It was spot on as he powered clear late and was impressive. Upside to come, he’s hard to beat.
6 Kayseri (Bet Now: $9.50) should be suited up to 1200m for the Jolly camp. Impressive win over 1100m two back before coming back to 1050m on Boxing Day and I just think he found them a tad sharp behind the very much in form Great Leveller. Up to 1200m, he can bounce back.
Race 9. (17:55) Foodmont/mauri (bm60) 1000m
13 Desired (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Team McEvoy trained filly that looks suited. Ran over 900m here two weeks ago where she sat off a very fast speed and launched late but had to settle for a second to the very much in form Appalachian. I think back up in trip is a positive and is hard to beat.
3 Kishstar (Bet Now: $5.00) can mix her form but her best is certainly good enough. Came back to 900m when racing here last time out. sat back near last in the run but motored late when second to Appalachian. She has versatility re racing pattern and can sit closer in the run so expecting improvement.
2 Self Sufficient (Bet Now: $8.50) deserves another look. I was with him when he raced here two weeks back over 900m but he was nearer the inside, got checked, lost momentum…just a total forgive. Solid in defeat fresh at Morphettville the start prior so I think he’s a first four contender.
