Ten races will be run and won at Rosehill on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:20) The Agency Real Estate Handicap 1300m
2 Titanium Power (Bet Now: $6.50) in the opener. Joe Pride has done a super job with this horse this time in, his last start seeing him lead throughout over 1400m at Warwick Farm where he set up a good lead and had enough in hand on the line. Good test here, but confident he runs well.
3 Centimental (Bet Now: $6.00) is a definite contender. Trialled up super prior resuming to Randwick on Boxing Day where she had the suck run behind the speed and battled away okay when fourth to the in form Lady Of Luxury. Normally third up is when she fires, so might need one more, but overall, she finds a winnable race.
4 Royal Exit (Bet Now: $31.00) looks a likely type for Mark Schmetzer, with this four year old attempting to make it three on the bounce. Defied a notable betting drift to win at Coffs last time under promising apprentice Bailey Wheeler, finding the right part of the track and finishing best. Knockout hope.
Race 2. (12:55) Davali Handicap 1100m
9 Madame Pommery (Bet Now: $8.00) is the saver. Chris Waller trained filly that won a recent trial at Canterbury. She was pushed out to win the trial, but what I liked is when J Mac asked her for an effort, there was an instant response. Does no work from the draw and is trained here.
7 Treasurer (Bet Now: $8.50) looks a nice type. On debut for Brad Widdup and she looked to go about her business quite nicely when winning a trial at Wyong, leading all the way and running solid time relative to the morning. Draws okay and with the hot favourite scratched, it’s a wide open race.
10 Smart Vengenace (Bet Now: $7.00) is a daughter of Smart Missile for Annabel Neasham that is on debut. She’s had two soft trials this prep to get ready for start one, the latest being a narrow on speed win at Warwick Farm. Not sure what’s under the bonnet, but have to respect the stable.
Race 3. (13:30) TAB Highway Handicap 1500m
I reckon 2 Activation (Bet Now: $21.00) is ticking along nicely. Freshened up prior to racing in the 1400m Highway two weeks ago won by Banju. He was in restricted room in the straight and closed his race off okay late between runners. Fitter and up to 1500m on a bigger track, I think he’s an each way bet here.
4 Banju (Bet Now: $4.80) is racing very well for Lyle Chandler. Narrow second to King’s Trust in a Highway two back before going to the Kenso track where they rode him positively, sat near the speed and kicked on strongly to get the job done. The way he finds under pressure, an extra 100m here should be fine.
6 King’s Trust (Bet Now: $5.50) has been up a little while for Terry Robinson but is holding his form nicely. Just got the Highway win two back over Banju before sitting a fair way back in the run on the Kenso last time and was good late when fifth to Banju. Hard to beat if he can sit closer in the run.
Race 4. (14:05) Midway Handicap 1200m
13 Twice As Special (Bet Now: $10.00) looks the map horse. Admittedly she doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates, but her recent efforts have been quite sound, her latest effort coming at Warwick Farm when a closing fourth to a proven Saturday metro performer, Broken Arrows. Maps to stalk the speed and should be strong late.
I will include 6 Sky Command (Bet Now: $2.20) in the numbers, but she’s way too short to be a betting proposition. Won a couple of races to start her career as a juvenile, but when she was asked to step up in grade/depth, she didn’t quite measure up. 1200m fresh is the query, but in well after the claim and has more upside than most you would assume.
2 Saquon (Bet Now: $16.00) is an interesting runner. Comes here with fresh legs, several weeks between runs since a solid effort in the Summer Provincial Final at Newcastle over the mile behind Darleb, beaten around 2.5L. He did win a Midway over 1300m here three back so 1200m here is no issue. Just the set up is, plus the stable isn’t exactly in form. Watch the market.
Race 5. (14:40) Hyland Race Colours Handicap 2000m
1 Amica (Bet Now: $11.00) should love the rise in trip for the Ryan/Alexiou camp. She ran in the Belle Of The Turf at Gosford last time out and worked to the line strongly from off the speed when third to Expat and Brookspire. That form is pretty strong and this mare does look extremely well suited up to 2000m.
It’s amazing what confidence can do to a horse and 2 Dhakuri (Bet Now: $5.00) is a horse full of confidence after looking like a bludger a few runs ago. Bolted up two back on the Kenso before some Glyn Schofield magic got him home nearer the inside at Randwick on Boxing Day. Good test here, but confident he runs well again.
7 Real Time Warrior (Bet Now: $41.00) won the Country Classic at this track/distance three back before being an alarming betting drift in the Tuncurry Cup where he got too far back but ran home okay late. Then came back to 1900m at Gosford and found them a bit sharp. Back to the scene of the crime, he’s one I could include for wider multiples.
Race 6. (15:15) ACY Securities Handicap 1500m
3 Blesk (Bet Now: $3.40) should eat up 1500m here. His past few runs have come at 1400m and each time he has hit the line with real purpose, the latest behind Holyfield on Boxing Day. Off that, I think the extra 100m will be ideal and hopefully can sit a pair or two closer in the run.
8 Speed Legend (Bet Now: $3.90) has done little wrong in his eight start career and I think commands respect here. Ran over 1550m two weeks ago on the Kenso track where he didn’t stop chasing and was good in defeat when third to For Valour. Gets right down in the weights after the claim and maps super from the gate.
2 Above And Beyond (Bet Now: $17.00) is on the seven day back up after racing at this track/distance last Saturday where he had the suck run behind the speed and battled away pretty well when third to O’Mudgee. He has reacted in a positive way on the back up before and is another that’s well in after a claim.
Race 7. (15:55) Schweppes Handicap 1100m
2 The Bopper (Bet Now: $1.95) for me. I think he’s back. Jury was out last prep but he trialled well leading into his first up run at Randwick and under a strong ride from Bowman, he powered to the line late and was impressive. Form out of that race has been ticked off via Remlaps Gem at the Gold Coast and with The Bopper, I can only see improvement.
9 Amiche (Bet Now: $9.00) is a quality mare for Ed Cummings that deserves another chance. First run for the stable saw her win impressively against the Mares before a down the track effort behind El Buena. That was six weeks ago and a tick over trial was a good piece of work. Fresh is best for her, so she commands respect.
7 Bulletin (Bet Now: $51.00) can bounce back. Market liked him at odds a few weeks back at Randwick when resuming but just did a bit too much work on speed and tired, dropping out to run last behind Tycoonist. Goes well second up and had trialled well prior to the first up effort.
Race 8. (16:35) Ranvet Handicap 1350m
5 Super Effort (Bet Now: $6.00) on top. Several weeks between runs since resuming at Randwick on Boxing Day when well supported late and he ran up to that support with a strong third to Animate. Hasn’t won second up previously but has placed in all three second up efforts, so I think he’ll be hard to beat here.
2 Rubamos (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing really well this time in for Chris Waller. Strong on speed win two back at Warwick Farm in a race that was suited towards his pattern. He then went to the Kenso when a couple of pairs further back in a similar race shape and couldn’t quite bridge the gap when third to Petronius. If he can sit nearer the speed, he’ll be dangerous.
3 Tamerlane (Bet Now: $3.70) can bounce back. Arguably should have won first up when a narrow second to El Buena. Then went to Randwick on Boxing Day and was just fair but far from disgraced behind Animate after doing work in the run. Off the first up effort, he can take this out.
Race 9. (17:20) Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap 1200m
10 Fastconi (Bet Now: $7.00) should be suited up in trip for Chris Waller. Just one soft trial leading into his resumption on the Kenso track where he paraded like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out behind Dragonstone. Much better set up this time around and can bounce back.
Market will be fascinating with 8 El Buena (Bet Now: $8.00). Six weeks between runs since a strong win at this track/distance, helped by a 12/10 from J Mac. Put him into the dream spot and was able to finish best. Fitness levels are a query, but the form around him reads well for this.
6 Ulysses (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Dawn Approach for Team Freedman that resumes. Hasn’t raced since September 18 when a close up fourth at the Gold Coast behind a then in form Samurai, beaten narrowly and far from disgraced. 1200m is on the short side for him but he has trialled well enough to suggest he can run a positive race fresh.
Race 10. (18:00) Ned Whisky Handicap 1100m
6 Steel Diamond (Bet Now: $3.40) looks the straight bat option provided the track isn’t too wet. Resumed three weeks ago at Randwick and was excellent from off the speed when a close up third to Lady Of Luxury, who franked the form last Saturday. Fitter, home track, she looks hard to beat.
1 Irish Angel (Bet Now: $5.00) tends to save her best for the Rosehill 1100m and back to the scene of the crime of her first up win, she gets another chance. On face value, she was plain two weeks ago on the Kenso track behind Moonshine Lady but given that horse got complete control in front, those from behind had little chance, including this mare. If she can sit closer in the run, I think she’ll take beating.
7 Switched (Bet Now: $15.00) is honest that is rarely far away from the thick end of the prize. Resumed behind The Bopper at Randwick and just didn’t take advantage of the inside so want to be forgiving of that effort. She can settle near the speed and bounce back at likely decent odds.
