16/4/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Caulfield, Easter Cup day

Nine races have been set down for Caulfield on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

6 Plus Fours (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) is hard to beat. Debuted for Phillip Stokes over 1000m at Cranbourne in a slowly run race and really liked the way she picked up in the straight when a narrow second. Mum was Holy Cow, who was effective at 1600m+, so the rise to 1200m here is ideal.

2 Jamarra (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) looks suited back to 1200m. Ran over 1300m at Sandown last time where he looked home after trucking on speed but had no answers late for the electric finale of Amenable, who looks above average, so I think that form reads well for this and gets J Kah.

9 Coldlove (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is a Snitzel filly for Peter Moody that is on debut. This girl has had one jumpout this time in to get ready, which came over 800m at Pakenham and although the time was just fair, she looked to move well when second. Draws soft and stable juveniles should always be respected.

11 Clemenceau (Bet Now: $1.65 TOP ODDS) is a query at 1100m against the older horses first up, but it’s all upside with him and he is one who could measure up in better races. Has been prepped in Sydney for this prep, with just one soft trial at Warwick Farm on the Poly, but he has quality, a good racing style and McNeil is finding form.

6 Destination (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) should be suited up in trip for James Cummings. Resumed three weeks ago at Mornington over 1000m where I’m not 100% sold he was happy on the tight track and at the trip but was good late when third to Forever Free. Dangerous if he gets a drag into the race.

5 Young Liam (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) beyond 955m is a query but it’s hard to knock the way he’s racing at the moment. In saying that he’s a knock beyond 955m, he did win over 1000m at Cranbourne last Friday night in good style so perhaps 1100m will be okay, and he has the ideal racing pattern.

2 Through Irish Eyes (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) looks ready to win. Maher/Eustace trained four year old that ran over 2500m at Flemington several weeks ago in what became of the survival of the fittest. He fought on really gamely but couldn’t quite finish it off when a close up third to Blandford Lad. That hard run under the belt, hard fit, tick over jumps trial, he’ll take beating.

1 Point Nepean (Bet Now: $1.95 TOP ODDS) is a horse with good talent. He led throughout two weeks ago at Bendigo and gave them a spanking from the front, albeit not sure he beat a great deal, but he has the right colours and in the right camp to keep progressing, so he clearly does command respect.

5 Harmysian (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) has returned in good order. Had the suck run behind the speed at Mornington last time out and was there to win. Just lacked the turn of foot to match it with Rousseau late when second to the Waller horse. Like him up to 2400m and is a key chance I feel.

12 Mamounia (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) looks extremely hard to beat. James Cummings trained filly that had an abnormal set up leading into the Adrian Knox given she was second up, 1300m to 2000m with a month between runs. The run was very good given that. Better set up this time around and up to 2400m, she’ll take beating.

1 The Cunning Fox (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) is a horse with talent for Patrick Payne. He was put into the race from the outset under Billy Egan at Bendigo last time out and once he was so close in the run, the race was over and he duly saluted. I think 2400m is a query with those tactics, so I dare say he’ll be ridden cold to run it out but he has the runs on the board.

3 Celestial Fury (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) is the one with good upside and I think will be strong at the end of 2400m. Resumed over the mile at Pakenham where he was a narrow second to True Grit. Then went to 2200m at Bendigo where he got a fair way out of his ground and was never a winning threat but his finale was more than sound behind The Cunning Fox. Hard to beat if he can sit a pair or two closer in the run.

8 No Way Ever (Bet Now: $12.00) looks an above average filly for the Maher/Eustace camp. Unwanted in betting when resuming at the midweeks at Sandown but gee she let down with purpose from off the speed under John Allen and she made a mess of them. The query being, can she go on with it. With this stable, you’d say yes.

15 Star Waltz (Bet Now: $12.00) is in with a shout. Resumed over 1000m at Sandown and was good late from off the speed without really threatening behind impressive winner No Way Ever. Has good form around her from the Spring so fitter, up to 1100m, she clearly appeals here.

1 Flying Evelyn (Bet Now: $21.00) is capable with her best. Team Freedman filly that resumed down the straight at Flemington where she was just run off her legs but was okay late without threatening behind Glistening. Has the class factor to take her a long way. Hopefully can settle closer in the run.

2 Chassis (Bet Now: $4.80) should be suited back in trip for the Maher/Eustace. The jumpout pervs were all over when she resumed in the Hareeba at Mornington. Loomed to win but condition just gave way late behind Not An Option. Fitter and back to Mares grade, she’ll take beating I’d suggest.

5 Jump The Broom (Bet Now: $2.25) is three weeks between runs for Team Hawkes since resuming with a strong win at Mornington where she defied a notable betting drift to surge hard late to win and win well. Good test here, but if she was to win, the stable could start thinking blacktype.

12 Capriccio (Bet Now: $9.00) saves her best for the straight course at Flemington so interesting she runs here, potentially as a prep run for something down the track. Forget she went around at Caufield last time. When she’s back in the run and those on speed are running sub 33 the last 600m, those behind had no hope. She’ll get back but be strong at the end.

Fascinating that 16 Teewaters (Bet Now: $21.00) runs here as he heads towards the SA Derby and not against his own age next Saturday in the Chairmans at Morphettville. He resumed four weeks ago over the mile at Flemington where it was a fast race. He got back, and was left flat footed, but really liked the way he finished off. Love him up in trip, he’s got the upside, will be strong late…he’ll do me each way.

17 Milford (Bet Now: $10.00) sums up the Moroney camp in 2022. Looked cast, but has come back with a couple of super runs. Resumed at Flemington and was good against the race shape behind Gentleman Roy before a strong effort from the back in the Golden Mile behind Cherry Tortoni. Hard fit at 2000m, he appeals big time.

4 Zayydani (Bet Now: $6.00) looks to be ticking along nicely. Team Hayes mare that resumed in the Golden Mile and did a good job given she’s a 2000m+ mare behind Cherry Tortoni. You’d assume the stable have eyes on blacktype with her, whether it be Adelaide or Brisbane, so she appeals for sure off that return.

9 Ayrton (Bet Now: $3.30) gets the nod in a pretty strong edition of the Victoria Handicap. Classy four year old for the Price/Kent camp that resumes and you’d assume has eyes on the Stradbroke. Hasn’t raced since the Spring when third over 1400m at Flemington after sitting wide no cover. Loved his recent jumpout and maps super from the inside gate with J Kah to steer.

3 Kissonallforcheeks (Bet Now: $4.80) can bounce back big time back on top of the ground. Thrown in the deep end in the Doncaster and she failed to fire a shot on the heavy track. On paper, that reads awful, but she was beaten 400m out and Collett was kind to her, so the run wasn’t so brutal for her and hopefully there is still enough zip in the legs.

16 Bermadez (Bet Now: $7.50) commands respect. Michael Moroney trained gelding that was a sharp first up winner down the straight at Flemington before stepping straight to the mile second up and I just thought that brought him undone when second to Gentleman Roy in an effort that was still full of merit. Has that run under the belt now, he appeals.

6 Glint Of Hope (Bet Now: $2.60) is a good filly for the Busuttn/Young camp that has been excellent in two runs back from a break. Resumed with a strong maiden win at Pakenham before going to Sandown where she loomed to win but just found one better in My Whisper, who won the Auraria at Morphettville last Saturday, so the form reads very well. Hard to beat.

1 Douceur (Bet Now: $8.00) is the SA Oaks winner IMO. She has been luckless in two runs back from a spell. Barrier trial essentially when resuming at Flemington. She then went to the Alexandra at The Valley and had no luck at all. Should have won instead of a third to Daisies. Rub of the green this time out and she’ll take beating.

9 Rebel’s Choice (Bet Now: $26.00) is a progressive filly for Peter Moody that comes to Saturday metro level off the back of a dominant win at the midweeks at Sandown where she was given a peach by Nolen and she made an absolute mess of them in a strong display. Good test for her here, but I think she’s up to it.

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 9 Ayrton

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 16 Teewaters
