The biggest raceday the Sunshine Coast has to offer comes around on Saturday with their stand alone program, with the feature race being the $125,000 Group lll XXXX Gold Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:12pm) : Summerveld Racing Stables Handicap (95) 1800m: Form Guide
Back Me: Going with Eight’s A Party (Best Odds: $3.60) in the opener. He finished off his race strongly to win two back over this distance at the Gold Coast before being given a little freshen and he came back over the mile on Toowoomba Cup Day. He was given a beaut ride by Jim Byrne and the horse finished hard late to win. He is loving his racing at the moment, and despite the wide draw, he is one of the hardest to beat given his great record at the distance and at the track.
Big Danger: Landlocked (Best Odds: $4.60) has had a rebirth since joining the Joe Cleary yard, and that was clearly evident when the horse outstayed his rivals to score a gritty win in the Wagga Wagga Gold Cup (2000m). He is thriving at the moment, and one thing you notice with him, is that he performs better when he travels. Hard to hold out here.
Roughie: Fast Arrow (Best Odds: $6.50) didn’t handle Ipswich at all last time out, but still found enough to surge late and grab victory in the last stride. She is on her home track, and when it comes to these provincial tracks and big meetings, they are advantaged by a couple of lengths at least, so watch the market with her.

Race Two (12:47pm) : Parklands Tavern Handicap 1400m: Form Guide
Back Me: Champagne Cath (Best Odds: $3.90) is a hit and miss mare for Chris Waller, but when she is right, she can be quite explosive. She had one run in the Sydney Autumn, back in February behind Thump in the Triscay where she wasn’t happy at all. Spelled and looked in excellent order in a recent Warwick Farm trial win. She flies fresh and is dynamite on firm ground, which is what she should get here.
Big Danger: Tints (Best Odds: $8.50) has had two runs back from a spell, and looks on track to win after a strong third at Toowoomba behind Girls Command, beaten just over a length. Her record at the track is very good, and she is an absolute bomb on firm ground. Looks hard to beat and the clear danger to the top tip.
Roughie: Expecting a much better run from former kiwi mare Katie’s Cove (Best Odds: $31.00) who has had two runs now for Mick Mair, but she just hasn’t fired on wet ground. Four starts back and she finished 1.5L off Chautauqua in the Hawkesbury Guineas. Bring that form here, and she’d blow these away.

Race Three (1:22pm) : BOQ Mooloolaba Handicap 1000m: Form Guide
Back Me: I think Steve O’Dea will win the race with either Beau Jet or Katy’s Son (Best Odds: $9.00). With the weight pull and better barrier, I’ll lean towards Katy’s Son. Both her career runs have been on this track, with the debut in October when bolting up. He was then spelled and resumed a couple of weeks back over 1000m here and despite not being 100% happy in the conditions, he was very impressive. He’ll be even better on top of the ground and he has a lethal finishing burst when produced at the right time.
Big Danger: Beau Jet (Best Odds: $8.00) was given an absolute peach ride by Tim Bell to win first up at Doomben before going to the Gold Coast Guineas and working home okay late when ninth to Nostradamus. Back to this level suits, fast tempo will be ideal and Bell has elected to ride this bloke over Katy’s Son.
Roughie: Kiwi galloper Huka Eagle (Best Odds: $7.50) was just too bad to be true when making his Australian debut in the Gold Coast Guineas, having a nice run just off the speed before puncturing badly in the straight to finish eleventh. Rather watch than back him here, but if he is right, he is the one to beat.

Race Four (2:02pm) : Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Bruce McLchlan Memorial Classic 1400m: Form Guide
Back Me: I’m going to take a chance with Frequendly (Best Odds: $3.60), who is first up here. She won three of her first four starts before going to the Magic Millions and probably racing like a tired horse. She resumes here without a trial, but ehe draws gate one on a firm track, and when those two elements are combined, she is explosive.
Big Danger: Handfast (Best Odds: $4.60) is a Godolphin colt who made his debut a couple of weeks back at Wyong and working home well on a bottomless surface when fifth to Libidosun, beaten 1.5L. The firmer surface just looks much more ideal for him, he has a stack of upside and his trial form in Sydney is excellent.
Roughie: Mr Optimistic (Best Odds: $7.00) was crunched in betting last time out at the Gold Coast, and despite a few nervous moments, the Tony Noonan trained galloper surged and finished off very strongly to win. Steps up a bit in depth here, but there was plenty to like about that, and there is upside.

Race Five (2:42pm) : XXXX Gold Sunshine Coast Guineas 1600m: Form Guide
Back Me: Really hard to go against Winx (Best Odds: $4.00) here. She was excellent in the Sydney Autumn, which ended with a brave second to Gust Of Wind, beaten two lengths. She has been freshened up and looked sharp in a Warwick Farm trial on May 1, running third but under a good hold. Her nearest rival in ratings is 87 with Merion, and she gets a 2kg weight pull on that horse. Looks the winner.
Big Danger: I’ve been very impressed by the two runs of Skylimit (Best Odds: $10.00) this time in. He resumed with a brave third at Warwick Farm behind Impulsive Spirit before going to the Toowoomba Guineas (1625m) and beating all bar Jumbo Prince, beaten just under a length. He made the lead from 1200m to 1625m, so his effort was outstanding. He should be near cherry ripe fitness wise, will be up on speed and should prove tough to run down.
Roughie: Buckin The Blues (Best Odds: $41.00) worked home strongly behind Worthy Cause two back at Doomben before dropping back to the provincials on his home track at Murwillumbah and bolting up, winning by five lengths. He needed the confidence boost and got it in a big way. He is a definite chance here if the speed is on, which is what it should be here.

Race Six (3:22pm) : Linked Group Plumbing Caloundra Cup 2400m: Form Guide
Back Me: I was pretty keen on Index Linked (Best Odds: $3.75) in the Chairmans at the Gold Coast, and through no fault of Bossy, the horse had to go back to the inside, which wasn’t the place to be, and he was gunned down late by Epingle, who was out in the better part of the track. 2400m is a query, but this is not a strong race, so with a cold ride, he could get away with it.
Big Danger: Tremec (Best Odds: $7.00) looks next best. He was well backed when winning the Randwick version of the Chairmans before going to the Gold Coast edition and being disappointing when sixth to Epingle. He is a much better horse than that, and I think the bigger track will suit him better. Outside of Index Linked, it’s a pretty thin race, so he should improve.
Roughie: I’d include Ongoing Venture (Best Odds: $41.00) as a value prospect in exotics. He sat on speed and fought on well two back at Doomben behind Monaco Doll before going to the Toowoomba Cup and missing the start before running a pretty solid seventh to Pornichet. Up in trip will be ideal for him, he loves big tracks and he’ll be strong late.

Race Seven (4:02pm) : HMR Projects Pty Ltd Glasshouse Handicap 1300m: Form Guide
Back Me: If Allez Eagle (Best Odds: $6.50) turns up fit and healthy, he’ll spank these. He is a classy customer from New Zealand who ran a brave fourth last time out in the Group l Easter Handicap (1600m) at Ellerslie, beaten 2.6L on a bottomless surface. He is a machine on firm ground, which is what he gets here, back to 1300m suits and he’ll appreciate the big surroundings, similar to what he likes at Ellerslie. Extremely hard to beat.
Big Danger: Dances On Stars (Best Odds: $9.00) wasn’t too bad when resuming in the Chief De Beers at Doomben behind Rocket To Glory before going to the Victory Stakes and working home strongly near the inside when third to Srikandi. He is a big track horse, so the Sunny Coast should suit him, and being third up now, he should just about be ready to show his best.
Roughie: The watch horse is Black Jet (Best Odds: $21.00) for Liam Birchley. He had been very frustrating to follow, but he put it all together at the end, winning two on the bounce before being spelled. Wasn’t asked to do much in a recent Deagon trial, he draws a soft gate, runs well fresh, good record at the track and will be strong late.

Race Eight (4:37pm) : Yalumba Wines Bribie Handicap 1000m: Form Guide
Back Me: Going with some value in the shape of Falino (Best Odds: $21.00). He resumed in the Weetwood (1200m) at Toowoomba and was excellent I thought when finishing seventh given he was last in the run and was forced to come the widest on the turn. His effort to finish three lengths off the winner was very good. He is a dead set dry track horse, so that’s a tick, he is a winner at the track and will relish a strong tempo.
Big Danger: Diamond Oasis (Best Odds: $3.30) won first up at Canberra before going to a 55 Second Challenge Heat at the Valley and running a strong third to multiple Group l winner Platelet, beaten a half length. It’s hard to get a true guide on that form because Platelet has raced since, and though failed, it was on a heavy track, so that form is inconclusive IMO. Diamond Oasis flies fresh and looks suited at the weights, plus he has trialled very well.
Roughie: One to include in exotics is Heza Bobby Dazzler (Best Odds: $12.00), who just didn’t get into the race when resuming in the Chief De Beers (1110m) behind Rocket To Glory. He draws to get the gun sit behind likely leaders Rocky King and Craiglea Cruz, and second up last time in he was enormous in winning. Definite first four contender.
