Murray Bridge is where SA metro racing heads to this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:02) Northpoint Murraylands (Bm86) 1000m
3 Alleboom (Bet Now: $3.90) deserves another chance. He was too bad to be true a fortnight back when resuming and finishing second last behind Star Hills. I think that run confirmed that he’s well and truly a dry tracker so back on firmer footing here, I am expecting sharp improvement.
1 Calypso Reign (Bet Now: $2.25) is the obvious threat. Three weeks between runs since a sharp win over 1200m here, settling back in the run but got a beaut steer from Crowther, slicing between runners and drew clear late. Back to 1000m no issue and won’t be far away in the run to unleash late.
5 Oamaru Owl (Bet Now: $19.00) has had a few homes throughout his career. He now finds himself with Karen Letts-Maund. His better days are potentially behind him, but he has trialled up very nicely here last week, winning by a space in fast time. If he runs up to that, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 2. (12:37) Weddings @ Bridges Event-Bm68 1200m
4 Zou Sensation (Bet Now: $4.20) gets the nod in what looks a tricky race. Zoustar colt for Team Corstens that is on debut. He jumped out last week at Werribee and ran second. He was pushed out, but what I liked is that he responded when asked. Stable finds Vorster to steer and there is a little query on the raced brigade overall, so I’ll go with a first starter.
2 Test The Law (Bet Now: $1.75) could be a nice juvenile. Market specked him when he resumed three weeks ago here and it was proven correct, with a sharp turn of foot from off the speed to win and win well. Off that, a rise to 1200m is ideal and he’s one of the hardest to beat.
5 Cool The Jets (Bet Now: $17.00) is a knockout hope. He debuted in the Test The Law race from three weeks back at this track. He was never really a winning threat, but I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off. Extra 200m should suit and if he’s within range, he could be a threat.
Race 3. (13:12) Irongate (Bm68) 1000m
5 Bajan Belle (Bet Now: $12.00) looks a filly with good talent for Ryan Balfour. Trialled/jumped out well prior to her debut two weeks ago on the Parks track and she ran up to those good efforts with a strong on speed win under Holder. Clearly harder here, but she can measure up for sure.
1 Keep Reading (Bet Now: $2.90) is a Team Jolly trained three year old that resumes. He hasn’t raced since November when placing at Morphettville behind Smokin’ Val in a good effort against the older horses. Trialled well leading in…market will be interesting because he is first up and there is a stack of speed engaged. Is he forward enough? Market will be the guide.
9 Gloved (Bet Now: $6.50) can bounce back. Dominant first up maiden win at Murray Bridge before going to 1000m on the Parks track where she led at a solid tempo and gave a really good kick but tired late when fourth to Queman. I reckon with a conservative steer you’ll see a much better horse.
Race 4. (13:47) Fibretrack (Rs0mw) 1200m
Quite keen here on 8 Hello Ladies (Bet Now: $4.00) for Shayne Cahill. Lovely ride from Crowther saw him win fresh at Mount Gambier. Then went to Morphettville in a hot sprint race and was very good from the back behind Rushaway Lad. Fresh legs, miles back in grade/depth, he’ll take beating.
Back to 1200m I find fascinating with 4 Castle Of Kings (Bet Now: $4.20). Will Clarken trained gelding that resumed with an all the way win at Gawler before going to Murray Bridge and 1400m. Just hit a flat spot when asked but was good late. Is this a prep run for next start, or will he be sharp enough for 1200m?
5 So Say Angel (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Ryan Balfour trained mare that is certainly capable. Ran behind Agrimony a fortnight back where she had a suck run behind the speed and loomed to be some sort of threat, but couldn’t quite finish behind the Clarken runner. Getting close to D-Day but finds a winnable race.
Race 5. (14:22) Happy 70Th B'day T Osborn-Bm78 1400m
7 Aiguilette (Bet Now: $9.00) can bounce back. He finished down the track behind Agrimony two weeks back and on paper, the run was plain, but given how the track played, he was no hope, so I am totally forgiving of it. He’s racing really well and will be dangerous if he’s within range.
1 Left Hand Man (Bet Now: $4.50) hasn’t won in a little while but he’s working up to something positive. Looked the winner a fortnight back but as soon as you had that thought, in came Jaguary, who swooped out wide, surged hard and nabbed Left Hand Man on the peg. Key threat.
4 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now: $7.50) looks to be in for a good prep. Michael Hickmott trained gelding that resumed over this trip two weeks back on the Parks track and was a real eye catcher from the back in a good return behind Jaguary. Home track advanatge and has more upside than most.
Race 6. (14:57) Bridges Event Centre (Bm60) 1000m
3 Sidearm (Bet Now: $5.50) is potentially a bit camera shy, but not denying he has the talent under the hood. He has teased to win races for Will Clarken but hasn’t quite been able to get the job done, the latest run being three weeks ago at Murray Bridge when a close up third to Reward With Return. If he gets a soft run in transit, and is within range, he likely wins. Though I will say he’s hard to back with confidence.
4 Hanabi (Bet Now: $2.15) is a Phillip Stokes trained mare that resumes. She showed really good promise when last in work, mainly at metro level in stronger races than this. Hasn’t been seen in seveal months, but a couple of trials suggest she’s ready to go, so watch the market.
2 Oakfield Geronimo (Bet Now: $10.00) has to be respected here. I think his effort to run second two weeks ago on the Parks track proved that the track was biased. On form, he was zero chance to run well, but he was nearer the inside and battled away really well when second to Star Hills. Back to 60 grade, he appeals.
Race 7. (15:35) Matthew Miles (Bm68) 2000m
4 Ichibansan (Bet Now: $7.00) has found winning form and he is the sort of horse that once he finds it, he holds it. Lovely ride from Stubby saw him win two weeks ago on the Parks track, showing intent from the outset and the aggressive ride won the race. He’s got more to come so happy to be in his corner.
15 Aussie Sojourn (Bet Now: $9.00) is a definite winning chance. She ran a closing second to Ichibansan a fortnight back. She settled near last in the run and worked to the line strongly, but just couldn’t quite reel in the winner. I think Murray Bridge wil suit her and she’ll be strong at the end.
14 Perfect Illusion (Bet Now: $26.00) is working up to a win I feel. Far from disgraced behind Ichibansan two weeks back. He was never really a winning threat, but I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off. I think 2000m on the big track here will suit and he’s got upside to come being just fourth up.
Race 8. (16:15) Carlton Draught (Bm68) 1200m
6 Agrimony (Bet Now: $2.90) can keep winning. Formerly with Chris Waller, he had his first run for Will Clarken two weeks ago on the Parks track and he was impressive in winning. Yes, helped by the bias towards the fence, but he was still a strong winner and he’s got improvement to come, especially up in trip. Keen again.
9 So You Can (Bet Now: $8.50) is working up to a win for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. Ran two weeks ago over this trip on the Parks track and battled away okay in defeat behind Agrimony in a race not really run to suit. Prior effort suggested a win was near so not dismissing him just yet.
1 Munster (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had two runs off a mini freshen up. Strong winner two back on the course proper at Morphettville before going to Murray Bridge where he was nearer the inside and I don’t think that was the right spot to be so forgiving his effort behind Calypso Reign. Likes the home track, he can bounce back.
Race 9. (16:52) Magic Millions (Bm64) 1400m
This race has really fallen away thanks to scratchings. No confidence, but for the sake of a tip, on top is 17 Headphones (Bet Now: $14.00) for Jordan Frew. She’s a mare who doesn’t win out of turn but is racing in good form, the latest being a closing fourth over 1200m here on Monday. Back up to 1400m, she’ll be strong late.
7 Big Sue (Bet Now: $SP.00) can bounce back. Ran two weeks ago on the Parks track at Morphettville and stuck to the task pretty well in defeat after doing work from a tricky gate behind Tubby Two Tracks. If he gets luck from the gate, he’ll be around the mark.
11 Naseeb (Bet Now: $41.00) is a fascinating runner. Sue Murphy trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since April 17 when struggling on the wet track in the Penola Cup behind Fulton Street. Resumes without a jumpout/trial, but 1400m fresh, I think he’s one for wider exotics.
