2/11/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Prince Of Wales Stakes day

A nine race card has been assembled for Ascot this Saturday where it is Asian Beau Stakes Day, with the 1400m feature being a key lead up for the Railway. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

Despite being a maiden, I think 10 Zip Zap Zoom (Bet Now: $3.70) can win this for Fred Kersley. Good fresh at 1200m behind Bee Quick before coming back to 1100m three weeks ago when a closing third to Validation in a maiden which looked to have a bit of depth. Like him up in trip, draws a good gate, stack of upside and stable doesn’t mind going about things differently, and they do it with success.

9 Validation (Bet Now: $11.00) is a handy mare for the Harvey team and her best chance of winning IMO is if she leads and is allowed to roll. They took a sit with her three weeks ago in a maiden over 1100m here and it proved to be the winning move as she finished best, just, but didn’t savage the line. If they let her roll in front, she’ll take some running down despite likely getting the staggers late.

5 Bedouin Belle (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Lou Luciani trained mare who is third up, so she should be at peak fitness. Held by Drinkwhatyoulike fresh at Northam before racing at this track/distance when keen off the pace and couldn’t dash well enough when fourth to Sir Mambo, who is hardly a world beater, so that form is suspect, but hard fit now and off a good speed, she can improve.

Going each way with 1 Dark Musket (Bet Now: $11.00). He comes through the Cockney Crew race from two weeks ago over 1800m here, like several from this race on Saturday come through. He was back in the run and never really a winning factor but I liked the way he found the line late to run fifth. Crying out for further, which he gets here, and this race isn’t as strong overall.

4 Here Comes Lenni (Bet Now: $2.00) is three weeks between runs for the Justin Warwick stable since racing over 2100m here when sitting back off a good speed before Lucy got rolling on him on the turn and with momentum, he finished best to win. Bit more depth to this line up, but he’s going really well this time in and the claim for McNaught certainly helps.

3 Dark Prospect (Bet Now: $5.00) is well placed up in trip. Somewhat ridden upside down in the Kalgoorlie Cup two back and dropped off badly. Freshened up and ran in the Cockney Crew race from two weeks back when ridden cold on the fence and finding the line well to run fourth. Better suited up in trip I feel and though been up a while, that last run was encouraging.

4 Pretty Style (Bet Now: $3.80) gets the nod for me. This filly resumed two weeks ago against older horses at this track/distance where she got the good run near the speed and really, should have won and was the better horse, but the bob of the head went the other way. That should bring her right on for this and should get run of the race from the inside barrier.

8 Drinkwhatyoulike (Bet Now: $3.10) is putting together a pretty solid record for Simon Miller. Sustained speed from the front saw win a three horse race two back at Northam before racing over 1100m here a couple of Wednesdays back where she went at a brutal speed in front and couldn’t sustain it when a tiring third. She’ll likely lead and run along…last bit may test.

2 Mia Dolce (Bet Now: $6.50) has been an iron filly who is having start 17. Ran over 1200m here two weeks ago against the older horses when wide no cover on speed and couldn’t finish it off when down the track. She looks a 1000m horse, so like her back to this trip, she’s back against her own age and the big tick is Brodie Kirby back on given he rides the filly better than most.

1 King’s Authority (Bet Now: $8.00) is nearing three years since he last greeted the judge first, but he isn’t running too badly. He comes through the Copper Fury race from a fortnight back when getting a suck run on the fence and found the line pretty well without threatening, eventually finishing third. Should improve from that outing and again draws well to run a positive race.

10 Solarize (Bet Now: $6.50) is the interesting runner. Holly Locke trains this gelding, who ran along at a decent clip in front when resuming in a Bunbury maiden and though getting the staggers late, he had a safe enough margin to cling on and win, running good time for the 1200m. Like him back to 1100m and I think the big tick for this horse is that Pike is booked.

3 Sir Snugalot (Bet Now: $27.00) is a son of Oratorio that resumes for Steve Wolfe. This guy hasn’t raced since June 1 at Belmont when wide no cover and feeling the pinch late when down the track behind State Attorney. Resumes without a trial but can sprint well fresh, has gate one and doesn’t have too bad of a record at Ascot. He’s one to include for multiples.

Going the way of 11 Massimo (Bet Now: $2.35) for Fred Kersley. Just found the 1000m too short when resuming off a break two weeks ago here but worked to the line very well late when fifth to Copper Fury in a race which had a bit of depth to it. He’ll take really good improvement off that I would assume, up in trip and can sit a touch closer in the run if need be from the gate.

6 Inflation (Bet Now: $5.50) is second up here for the Mcauliffe stable. He was hard in the market when resuming at this track/distance two weeks ago when near the speed and copping pressure, but kept to the task and was game in defeat when fourth, beaten a length. Unbeaten second up and you’d like to think that the resumption will bring him right on for this assignment.

For wider multiples, I’d be including 1 Night Voyage (Bet Now: $21.00). He is four weeks between runs since racing over 1100m on Kalgoorlie Cup Day when last in the run and was never really in the hunt behind the handy mare Senorita Bonita. His record at Ascot isn’t too flash but with a stack of speed engaged, he’ll likely drift back and if he’s going any good, he can finish over the top.

Confident that 4 In Love With Paris (Bet Now: $5.00) goes close to winning. Fred Kersley trains this gelding, who was a month between runs when racing over 1200m two weeks at this track and worked home with real purpose from near last in the run to finish a close up third. He’s better suited up in trip, which is what he gets here, and despite a wide gate, is one of the hardest to beat.

5 Royal Command (Bet Now: $3.20) is a key threat for me. Adam Durrant trains this six year old, who hasn’t raced since December 29 when winning impressively over 1800m here when winning very impressively after sitting off the speed. Comes here with one soft trial under the belt, which was behind Derby winner Regal Power. Class will carry him a long way towards victory here despite being short of his ideal trip.

7 Arctic Stream (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Ross Price trained gelding resuming. This five year old hasn’t raced since May 11 over 2150m when at the end of a long prep and looked a tired horse behind Beg To Differ after a string of placings. Usually sprints well fresh and I thought he looked more than encouraging in the Lark Hill trial behind noted speedster Misty Metal.

Hoping that 4 Regal Power (Bet Now: $2.60) can kick off his 4YO career with a win. He really came of age towards the end of his 3YO season, highlighted by an outstanding win in the WA Derby. Not sure what his A1 trip is, but he looks a really good prospect for the locals towards races like the Kingston Town and Perth Cup. Happy to be in his corner first up in a good race.

8 Samizdat (Bet Now: $2.70) looks to be on track. Just ran out of condition fresh in the Birthday Stakes before going to the Northerly where he got back near last and forced wide on the turn but finished off strongly behind The Velvet King. Third up, should just about be hard fit now and can sit a touch closer in the run if need. He’s one of the hardest to beat here.

If they leave 2 Wrinkly (Bet Now: $35.00) alone in front, he’ll run a beauty I suspect. He was on speed fresh in the Northerly and pouring pressure on, and fought hard, but just died on the run late behind The Velvet King. Looks to lead for fun here and he does race best when leading and allowed to roll without pressure. If that eventuates, he’ll give a bold sight I’m sure.

Hoping sustained speed can come to the fore via 7 Misty Metal (Bet Now: $3.20). She looks wound up to win fresh having had two sharp trials in readiness for her return, her first run since the Scenic Blast in the early part of the Autumn behind Mr Motown. She races best when on speed and rolling and I think that can eventuate here, so she’ll do me in a ripping sprint contest.

On face value, I was disappointed with the first up effort of 9 Flirtini (Bet Now: $4.60) in the Crawford despite being beaten narrowly, but considering the leader ran the last 600m in 33.5, those behind really had no chance of winning, so Flirtini did a good job to get as close as she did. Has the run under the belt now and I hope she can sit that little bit closer in the run.

5 State Solicitor (Bet Now: $27.00) is a huge watch here. Team Williams trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced since the Summer Carnival last year when disappointing and beating just one runner home behind Arcadia Prince. He is quite a good fresh horse and has trialled well leading in. On his 2017 form, he’d be winning, but it’s been a while since he has showed that, which is the unknown.

Landed with 3 Go Crying (Bet Now: $10.00) for the Steve Wolfe team. This bloke is on the seven day back up after racing over 1500m here last Saturday where he got back, wide with cover, and worked to the line well but didn’t really have a turn of foot when fourth to Lorentinio. Yet to do the quick turnaround before but up to 1800m I like and this race does lack any real depth.

6 Langley (Bet Now: $19.00) is in good form for Mark Bairstow but is just struggling to get another win on the board. Second in the Toodyay Cup two back before going to York when last in the small field and finished off strongly to run second to Bucktorio, beaten a lip. Has run well in town before, he draws a soft gate, hard fit, in form and does find a winnable race.

1 Brother’s Keeper (Bet Now: $14.00) is second up and will be a big improver. He resumed over the mile here two weeks ago when getting the 1/1 sit off a slow speed and tried hard but just had no change up speed when fourth to Harry Thomas. Not a noted first up performer but does have very sharp second up record and from a decent gate, he can sit handy to the speed and be strong late.

BEST BET: Race Five Number 11 Massimo

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 7 Misty Metal

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 3 Go Crying
