Nine races will be run and won at Ascot this Saturday where it is Detonator Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (15:23) AUTUMN ASCOT RACING MDN 1400m
Another bludger of a maiden. 11 Petite La Femme (Bet Now: $6.00) has had numerous chances to break her maiden status but think she is going well and can take this out. Ran over 1200m here last Wednesday when back near last in the run and working home quite well late in the piece. If she can sit closer in the run, think she’ll take some beating.
12 Prize Pennies (Bet Now: $17.00) has less convictions than most and has upside to come. David Harrison trained mare that resumed over 1200m and seemed to get every chance from just off the speed and battled away okay without threatening. Good lead is that Paul Harvey takes over and draws to get a sweet run in transit.
7 Yardman (Bet Now: $3.00) will likely press forward from the tricky gate and look to pinch it from the front I suspect. Attempted to lead throughout over 1400m at Bunbury last time and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off. Has only had five starts, so less convictions than most and has the right racing pattern.
Race 2. (15:58) KIRIN MEGUMI HCP 1000m
Class should get 1 Charleton Eddie (Bet Now: $4.20) home. Quality three year old for the Casey team that resumes, having not raced since the Spring, where his last run was a solid second in the Placid Ark behind a talented filly in Chantorque. One sharp 400m trial to get ready for his return, but has class.
3 Island Charm (Bet Now: $4.20) has returned in super order. Roy Rogers trained filly that resumed with a dominant win over 1000m here before going to the Magic Millions at Pinjarra where she ran well, but just no match for the class of the field, Gemma’s Son. That was 1200m and I do feel that she is more effective at 1000m.
2 Our Boy Dylan (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Neville Parker trained three year old who has returned in pretty good order. Both runs back have come over 1000m at Bunbury, winning impressively first up before bumping into a Saturday class horse in Cuballing, who had the suck run in behind and finished best. Leading contender.
Race 3. (16:38) PEOPLESTART PLATE 1000m
Looks a good kick off point for the Ross Price trained filly 9 Bin Shalaa (Bet Now: $5.50). Ross Price trained daughter of Shalaa that is on debut off the back of a couple of strong trial wins, each time going about her business nicely and running solid time in both outings. Draws well and overall, looks to meet a thin line up.
Giving respect to 4 Pixie Chix (Bet Now: $4.00). She was seven weeks between runs when racing in the WA Magic Millions at Pinjarra when back nearer the fence and battling away pretty well in defeat behind impressive winner Ex Sport Man. She’ll be better for that run. Back to 1000m is the query.
No idea what to do with 5 Glacier Miss (Bet Now: $6.00). She comes through the Magic Millions at Pinjarra where she was going nowhere 200m out and looked like she would run last, but picked up late and surged in a good last 100m. Back to 1000m I find interesting with her. A win wouldn’t shock.
Race 4. (17:18) SEACORP HCP 1100m
Pretty keen on 4 Cuballing (Bet Now: $2.40) for Todd Harvey. Good in defeat fresh here behind Wilchino before going to Bunbury where he sat off a good speed before peeling wider and launching late to win impressively, producing the best last 400m of the meeting. Natural improvement off that, think he is clearly the one to beat.
2 Sir Mambo (Bet Now: $6.50) is on the seven day back up for the Martin Allan team after racing here last Saturday. He was five wide no cover for the trip…how he managed to kick on for third I do not know but it was the run of the day in defeat. Senior jock takes over…if that run hasn’t busted him, he’ll be in the finish.
1100m is on the short side for 5 Dark Mission (Bet Now: $7.50) but she is a talented mare for Team Williams and if they overdo it in front, she can finish over the top. Her last run came on Perth Cup Day when solid in defeat behind Ration Aly. Good with fresh legs and will be charging at the end.
Race 5. (17:58) TABTOUCH - WESTSPEED PLATINUM HCP 1500m
I’m with 4 Pletto (Bet Now: $3.30). Team Pearce trained mare that resumed two weeks ago in the Pearl Classic at Pinjarra and she was a real eye catcher late in the piece, flashing home to run second to London Miss. That was an excellent return and if she’s within range on the turn, she has the finale to win.
3 Uncle Dick (Bet Now: $7.00) deserves another chance. Lindsey Smith trained gelding that was kept very safe in betting when resuming over 1400m at Pinjarra a fortnight ago. He got back off the speed and seemed to be going well, but when pressure was applied, he didn’t fire a shot and was disappointing. He’s better than that and deserves another look.
9 Belafonte Boy (Bet Now: $67.00) can sneak a first four spot. Broke the maiden status here last Saturday when winning an ordinary maiden on paper, finishing best in a driving go after getting a suck run behind the speed. Was 1200m to 1500m that afternoon, so he should be better for that outing.
Race 6. (18:32) AMELIA PARK HCP 1400m
Second up and rising to 1400m looks an ideal set up for 1 Not To Be Mist (Bet Now: $7.50). He was a real eye catcher when resuming two weeks ago over 1200m at Pinjarra, working home with real purpose late in the piece behind the in form Resortman. If he can get luck from the tricky gate, think he’ll finish over the top.
2 Lorentinio (Bet Now: $10.00) will put himself on speed and give his all. Comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since January 23 when on speed over 1500m and trying hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off. Back to 1400m, with the claim for Ramoly, he’ll give himself every chance to get the job done.
5 Proconsent (Bet Now: $21.00) can bounce back in a big way. He was good from the back fresh behind Absolute. Then went to Pinjarra and to the eye was plain behind Resortman, but post race was found to have had puncture wounds, so a clear forgive. Off the first up effort, he’s a winning threat.
Race 7. (19:12) STORK TECHNICAL SERVICES HCP 2200m
4 Winifer (Bet Now: $27.00) can bounce back big time here for Trevor Andrews. Impressive winner two back at this track/distance before going to Pinjarra where she was dreadful and her record at the track suggests that she doesn’t go a yard there. Better suited here back at Ascot and Jason Whiting takes over.
2 Cousin Ivan (Bet Now: $2.90) is bursting to win a race for Holly Taylor. Pike rode a conservative race on him at Pinjarra two weeks ago and worked home strongly nearer the inside when a close up third to Baramagic. Fourth up now, so he should be at peak fitness and up to 2200m looks a big tick.
11 The Escort (Bet Now: $21.00) can put himself on speed and run a bold race at odds. That is what he did last Wednesday here and tried hard when a solid third to Bella’s Idol. This looks harder, but he’s got the right racing pattern to give himself every chance of an upset, and an upset wouldn’t totally shock.
Race 8. (19:50) DETONATOR STAKES 1800m
Thought this was a very tricky race to sort out with confidence. I’ve landed with 12 Cockney Crew (Bet Now: $10.00), resuming for Kieran McDonagh. Resumes, having not raced since November 30 here when pulling up lame behind Western Temple in a clear forgive run. Trialled up well to get ready and first up at 1800m signals intent.
Class will carry 3 Trap For Fools (Bet Now: $4.80) a long way and given the weights set up, he is just so well in. Found somewhere near his best during the Summer Carnival, winning the Towton Cup before going on to run a game fourth in the Perth Cup. Liked his recent trial and he does have a real love affair with Ascot.
This is such an intriguing set up for 4 Wrinkly (Bet Now: $23.00). Two runs at 1200m, the latest coming last Saturday in the Cyril Flower when down the track behind stablemate Platoon. On the quick back up and jumping straight to 1800m from 1200m…it’s unusual, but keen to see how he goes against a couple of classy animals.
Race 9. (20:30) CROWN SPORTS BAR HANDICAP 1600m
Back up to the mile is a big, big tick for 6 Zetorio (Bet Now: $12.00). Surprised many when winning at this track/distance two back before coming back to 1400m at Pinjarra when back near last in the run and finishing off powerfully late when third to Bogart. Back up to 1600m, he appeals as one of the hardest to beat.
5 Seminole Brave (Bet Now: $5.00) is a lightly raced four year old that has progression to come I feel. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago when sitting on speed and fighting on strongly, eventually wearing down the leader to win. He’s got more to come I feel and can take this out for sure.
Paul Harvey is found to ride 3 Avalon Bay (Bet Now: $14.00) and I think that booking is significant. Comes back to the mile after racing over 2000m at Pinjarra two weeks ago where he was back near last in the run and made up headway without threatening. The jockey booking is a lead and respecting it despite coming back in trip.
