Nine races will be run and won at Ascot this Saturday, with a couple of Karrakatta Plate lead ups being the focus. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (15:09) CROWN PERTH HCP 1400M
She has been costly this time in, but it does look the perfect race for 3 Pletto (Bet Now: $2.05). Team Pearce trained mare that has really caught the eye in all three runs back from a break, the latest run coming two weeks ago at Bunbury when savaging the line from the back when second to Cockyjoy. If she can sit closer in the run from the draw, she’ll take a power of beating.
2 Bruce Almighty (Bet Now: $4.20) is racing in career best form at the moment for Neville Parnham. Has won two of his past three, the latest run being last Saturday at this track/distance when leading throughout under a smart front running steer from Chris Parnham. He’ll put himself on speed and give his all.
6 Belafonte Boy (Bet Now: $81.00) is one for wider multiples. Ran over 1500m here last Wednesday when getting a suck run behind the speed and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when fifth to Temptacion. His overall record is ordinary, but hard fit, can sit near the pace and sneak a first four spot.
Race 2. (15:50) NEOMETALS HANDICAP 1400M
1 Magical Dream (Bet Now: $2.90) does look to pick herself here. Quality filly for the Williams camp that was around two months between runs when contesting the Breeders Classic at Bunbury two weeks ago. She tried, but just lacked the race fitness when second to Kissonallforcheeks. Better for that run and back in grade/depth, clearly she appeals.
Good test here for 2 Hot Zed (Bet Now: $3.40), but Lou Luciani has him absolutely flying at the moment. Has won four on the bounce, the latest coming a fortnight back at Bunbury when leading throughout and gee he was dominant. Harder here, and up to 1400m, but hard to ignore the way he’s going.
4 Alpha And Omega (Bet Now: $6.00) is a little query at 1400m but the small field and barrier one are two big ticks to navigate that query. Comes through the Hot Zed race mentioned above. Had a suck run behind and tried hard. Was just no match for the in form galloper. Must include for exotics.
Race 3. (16:34) PASSAGES HANDICAP 1000M
11 Amasenus (Bet Now: $3.90) on top. Simon Miller trained mare that is putting together a tidy little record. Ran over this track/distance just under two weeks ago when wide with cover before Parnham eased her wider and she unleashed a powerful finishing burst to get up and win. This race doesn’t look much harder and was only second up last time, so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.
8 Beau Zoom(Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Brazen Beau for Neville Parnham that resumes. Hasn’t raced since November 14 here when racing on a soft track and he didn’t seem to really appreciate it too much, so be forgiving of the last start flop. Interestingly resumes without a trial, but can sprint well fresh so watch the market.
Big watch on 3 Heritage Sash (Bet Now: $10.00), a former Team Edmonds trained gelding from the Gold Coast that makes his WA debut for Sean Rains. He is certainly more than capable of measuring up in a race like this and despite no public trials, I think a good lead is that the stable finds Paul Harvey to steer.
Race 4. (17:13) PERTH STAKES 1100M
Tricky race to sort out with confidence. Leaning towards 3 Storm Whisper (Bet Now: $3.40). Resumes for Neville Parnham after a two run prep during the latter part of 2020. Bolted up on debut at Bunbury before a gutsy second here. Spelled, trialled well and despite drawing wide, has enough speed to come across.
1 Ex Sport Man (Bet Now: $3.40) is the Magic Millions winner that is back with eyes towards the Karrakatta. He hasn’t raced since producing a brilliant finale from the back to win the Magic Millions at Pinjarra. Given a nice hit out in a recent trial. He will be back and launching late.
6 Diamond Blue (Bet Now: $16.00) is on the seven day back up after racing here last Saturday. He lobbed into a lovely spot just off the speed under McNaught and was there to win. Just couldn’t quite produce the goods but stayed on and was sound in defeat. One for wider exotics I’d suggest.
Race 5. (17:50) COMMIT TO CHANGE HCP 1600M
8 Fangio (Bet Now: $4.40) has been up a fair while for Roy Rogers but continues to hold her form really well. Put together four on the bounce before racing over this track/distance three weeks ago where she was so brave in defeat after sitting wide no cover, eventually running second to Trump This. Better luck this time around and she can get back into the winners list.
1 Bogart (Bet Now: $12.00) should be suited up to the mile. Resumed with a strong win over 1400m at Pinjarra before coming back to 1200m at Bunbury in a fast run race and worked home nicely late behind speed demon Charleton Eddie. Hard fit now, up in trip, he appeals as a key threat.
11 Black Shadow (Bet Now: $35.00) will get better as the prep gets deeper but he can sneak a first four spot at big odds. He resumed over this track/distance behind Trump This. Paraded like he would need the run and that is how it panned out. Might need one more, but his best is good enough to be around the mark.
Race 6. (18:27) GRANDSTAND CUP 1500M
I’m going to go the way of 3 Dig Deep (Bet Now: $5.00). Like most, his last run came in the Bunbury Stakes. He was back near last in the run and was making up good ground late in the piece before getting badly held up. Off that, 1500m should be okay and looks one of the hardest to beat.
2 Samizdat (Bet Now: $6.00) is a query at 1500m but his Bunbury Stakes effort was more than sound in defeat. He was back, wide with cover, and worked home okay late in the piece without really threatening behind Western Temple. Can sit closer in the run and prove hard to hold out.
7 Harry Thomas (Bet Now: $8.50) comes back to 1500m after racing over 2000m in the Bunbury Cup where he was near a very fast speed and as such, he dropped away and ran down the track. This looks more his distance range and his best is more than good enough.
Race 7. (19:05) RAMELIUS RESOURCES TROPHY 1200M
Good race this with a host of chances. 3 Excellent Dream (Bet Now: $3.90) has done little wrong in four runs back from a spell for Lindsey Smith. Impressive winner two back at this track/distance before going to Bunbury where she was chasing a fast speed throughout and worked home nicely late behind Gemma’s Son. Back on a track she loves, soft draw, hard to beat.
4 Charleton Eddie (Bet Now: $4.60) will look the winner for a long way. Quality three year old for the Casey team that was given a peach steer from Jordan Turner two weeks ago at Bunbury, leading throughout and proving too good. Harder here, but has the right racing pattern to give himself every chance.
Great to see 1 Watch Me Dance (Bet Now: $8.00) back at the races. Quality filly for Steve Wolfe that resumes, having not raced since the Kingston Town where she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Truly Great. Think whatever she does here she will improve on, but looked sharp in a recent trial.
Race 8. (19:40) GIMCRACK STAKES 1100M
I’m with 4 Liwa (Bet Now: $13.00) for the Simon Miller camp. She was a real eye catcher first up from the back, and proved that was no fluke when finishing best from the back to win the Supremacy at big odds, which was surprising given her fresh effort. Think she will take a power of beating against this lot.
8 Sneaky Chance (Bet Now: $27.00) looks to be ticking along nicely towards the Karrakatta. Has been kept on ice since the Magic Millions when a good fourth from off the back. She will likely be spotting this lot a start but will be strong late with an eye towards the Karrakatta.
1 Heavenly Waters (Bet Now: $21.00) will look the winner for a fair portion of the race given she will be out of trouble on speed. Cardiac Arrhythmia in the Supremacy so forget she went around. Tick over trial was good and her best is certainly good enough to give this a shake.
Race 9. (20:15) VINNIES/ROTARY CLUB HCP 2200M
Fitter and up in trip I do like for 5 Crystal Valley (Bet Now: $6.50). Six weeks between when racing over the mile here three weeks ago and she was okay in defeat I thought behind Trump This. There will be improvement off that you’d like to think and she does get the Bar Plates off, so keen to see how she goes.
6 Rivalry Galore (Bet Now: $6.00) has to be respected. Brett Pope trained gelding that ran over 2000m at Bunbury two weeks ago and was good late from off the speed when fourth to Reliable Star. Is a winner at the trip and is racing as if he wants it, so I’m giving him serious respect in an even contest.
12 The Escort (Bet Now: $8.50) is several weeks between runs for Justine Erkelens since racing over this track/distance. He had a suck run behind the speed and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to impressive winner Saucy Jack. Not sure I could back him to win, but one for multiples.
