A bumper nine race card has been assembled for the Sunshine Coast on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:43) Innovative Planning Solutions 1000m
4 Subterranean (Bet Now: $13.00) looks a really nice mover for Matty Dunn and I think he can make a winning debut here. Trialled last Tuesday over 1050m at Deagon, sitting on speed throughout before Cahill clicked him up and away he went, striding beautifully to win comfortably. Draws soft and has that solid grounding under the belt.
8 Avolonte (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Star Turn filly on debut for Stuart Kendrick. Comes here off the back off a 650m trial win last Tuesday at Deagon where she wobbled a bit on the turn but once she balanced up, she looked to move nicely with something in hand despite being ridden out. On her home track, keen to see how she goes.
1 Collay’s Spirit (Bet Now: $8.00) is the one with race experience, fitness and that winning feeling under the belt. Big odds when he won three weeks ago at Doomben but he was on speed and there to be run down, but was too good. Tricky draw to overcome, but always have to respected a horse with race experience over unraced.
Race 2. (14:18) Riceboi Mooloolaba (bm72) 1600m
1 Star Of Michelin (Bet Now: $4.80) is knocking on the door to win one. Stuart Kendrick trains this talented four year old, who saves his best for when he’s on big tracks, so the home track here at the Sunny Coast is perfect. In saying that, he was good in defeat at Doomben a fortnight back behind Desert Lord. He’ll get back and be very strong at the end.
5 Cabochon Lil (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Stuart Kendrick trained mare that is racing in super form at the moment. Admittedly, she only beat one horse last start when winning, and with due respect it was a moderate horse, but she did it liked it was a decent piece of trackwork, so her confidence should be up, loves her home track and gets Ryan Maloney to steer. Hard to beat.
2 Galtero (Bet Now: $17.00) has a good record at the Sunny Coast and despite 1600m being short of his best, think he can run a positive race here at odds. Resumed at Doomben two weeks ago and just looked in need of the run behind Desert Lord in a race which was much stronger than what he faces here. Might need one more, but has enough quality to measure up here.
Race 3. (14:53) Archer Park Racing Hcp 1400m
5 Palladas (Bet Now: $2.60) should love the rise to 1400m on the bigger track for Tony Gollan. Comes through the Starosa race from two weeks ago at Doomben where he was back and held up for a few strides before eventually getting clear and really finishing off with purpose, just failing to pick up the stablemate. Looks the one to bet on against these.
4 Dzsenifer (Bet Now: $7.50) is a big improver here for Jack Duncan. Resumed over 1350m at Doomben where Cormack tried to slot in but couldn’t and the filly was obliged to sit three wide for the trip. Did a good job to stick on like she did behind Starosa. Gets onto her home track and provided that resumption hasn’t busted, think she’s hard to beat here.
Bigger track and 1400m are two big ticks for the Tony Gollan trained 2 Corvo (Bet Now: $9.50). Ran over 1350m at Doomben two weeks ago and worked home okay without really threatening behind Starosa in a solid effort. Racing as if 1400m will suit and he’s at peak fitness now, so there aren’t many excuses he can produce.
Race 4. (15:33) Kendrick Racing (rs1mw) 1200m
11 Molly’s Rocking (Bet Now: $6.50 ) is a Lindsay Hatch trained mare that has done a pretty good job since joining the stable. Three weeks between runs since recording an impressive win in a 0MW race at Doomben under Adin Thompson. That’s two on the bounce for this girl and while it’s harder here, hard to knock a mare in form.
5 All Important (Bet Now: $5.00) is a little while between runs but reckon Tony Gollan finds a very winnable race for his charge. Three weeks between runs since attempting to lead throughout at Doomben and he gave a good kick, just failing to hold off a very much in form Beaufort Park. Finds the front here you would think and will take some catching.
8 Coral Bay (Bet Now: $9.50) tends to save his best for his home track at the Sunny Coast so I’m giving him respect. He is over four weeks between runs, having last raced here on October 23 when just off the speed and battling away well to run third. Not sure I could back him to win at this level, but his love affair with the track, must include in exotics.
Race 5. (16:13) Landmark Resort & Spa Plate-c3 1200m
3 Scathing (Bet Now: $3.60) for me. Chris Munce trained four year old that looked hard to beat on paper when resuming on Cup Day at Doomben but once key threat Maozi was within a length or so of him on the turn, it was race over and that mare was too good. He’ll come on from that and the depth here, as a whole, isn’t strong.
4 Stylish Saga (Bet Now: $7.00) has the talent to win this but upstairs, don’t think he is 100%. Bungled the start on Cup Day at Doomben and all looked lost, but he somehow managed to slice his way through the field and his class got him home in the end. Like him up to 1200m and can win with a clean get away. Got lucky last time. Won’t be the same result if he misses the kick again.
Second up syndrome off a long break is the query with 12 Veranes (Bet Now: $7.00) but her resumption was quite good at Doomben when fourth to Thine Is The Power after getting a mile back in the run. She looks like she would appreciate a slightly longer trip, but staying at 1200m is certainly not a deal breaker and onto a bigger track should suit.
Race 6. (16:53) Travis Schultz & Partners Hcp 1000m
1000m is short of her best, but 6 Fleet Dove (Bet Now: $8.00) does look to be a quality filly and I think she can resume a winner. Her form from the Winter Carnival does read very well for this, including a second to Kisukano, who is second to Rothfire as the best 3YO in Queensland. Trial was sharp in open company…just hope she doesn’t get a mile back from the gate and she’ll be strong at the end.
8 Bleu Zebra (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Tony Gollan trained filly that resumes. This girl had a two run prep in the Winter to start her career, winning like a good horse on debut here before failing as a $1.50 pop at Eagle Farm. Been given a break and she won a trial at Eagle Farm in very fast time, so to my eye, she’s ready to go.
12 Sinead (Bet Now: $61.00) is a big watch here. Team Meagher trains this filly, who is on debut. Comes here with one 800m trial under the belt but it was a sharp effort at Eagle Farm when winning the trial in solid enough time. Stable could have found a maiden for her, so fact she debuts here..I’d watch the market.
Race 7. (17:33) Swiss Ace Plate 1000m
Looks pretty straight forward here with 7 Sugar Boom (Bet Now: $2.30) and her sustained speed coming to the fore. That’s what she produced at Doomben first up in a 72 race and it was pretty much a barrier trial for her. She actually has trialled since, last week at Deagon, leading throughout and looking go through the motions beautifully. She’s the one to beat.
8 Just Orm (Bet Now: $5.50) has a fab record at the Sunny Coast and can run a much improved race here. Thought he was a touch disappointing on Cup Day at Doomben when seemingly getting every chance from just off the speed when sixth to Hard Empire, beaten just over two lengths. Saves his best for here and parks off a hot speed.
I’m wary of 2 Mishani Hustler (Bet Now: $34.00) for Les Ross. He can bob up at this level without surprising and he does tend to save his best for when he has fresh legs. Thought the Deagon trial was solid enough and with a hot speed in front of him, he’ll get his chance to finish over the top. Win wouldn’t shock so watch the market.
Race 8. (18:10) Mooloolaba Cup 1600m
8 Ballistic Boy (Bet Now: $1.95) is nearly the best bet across Australia for Saturday. Chris Anderson trains this gelding, who was fabulous when resuming at Doomben two weeks ago over 1350m, charging home from the back when second to Red Chase, clocking some very sharp late splits. Bigger track, fitter, extra 250m, more upside than most…where are the negatives?
9 Junction (Bet Now: $27.00) should appreciate stepping back up to the mile here. Mark Currie trained gelding that was an impressive winner of the mile at Toowoomba two back before coming back to 1350m at Doomben where he was good in defeat behind Emerald Kingdom. Now back up in trip on a big track, he appeals.
10 Reckless Choice (Bet Now: $12.00) is another that is suited at the mile on this track. He ran over 1350m at Doomben and was good late in his resumption when a close up fourth to Red Chase, beaten 1.6L. His form was a bit mixed during the Winter/Spring but he looks to have returned well and is a key threat against this lot.
Race 9. (18:45) Krew Racing Hcp (c6 1400m
3 Ligulate (Bet Now: $12.00) will need luck in running but his best is nearly good enough to beat this lot I reckon. Cody Morgan trains and has been freshened up since his Kosciuszko effort where he only beat two runners home but was only 3.9L from the winner. Tick over Deagon trial was very good…just needs luck from the gate because he might get shuffled back.
4 Tokoriki Lad (Bet Now: $4.00) is a key threat for me. Tony Gollan trained gelding that was second up when racing over 1350m at Doomben two weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run but loved the way he closed off late in an eye catching return, finishing third to Desert Lord. He gets better deeper into the prep so the fact he ran so well last time bodes well.
9 The Tax Accountant (Bet Now: $8.50) is going well this time in for Tom Button. Impressive winner three back at Toowoomba before a couple of runner up efforts, firstly at Rockhampton before being bloused on the peg on Cup Day at Doomben by Kedah. Like him back to 1400m, he’s hard fit, in form and will give himself every chance near the speed.
