Racing returns to Rosehill this Saturday for Lord Mayors Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Lord Mayors Cup ๐: View the Field and Odds for the Lord Mayors Cup
Race 1. (11:00) Precise Fire Hcp 1200m
2 Northern Beaches (Bet Now:ย $3.70 TOP ODDS) in the opener for me. Resumed two weeks ago at Gosford and I thought he did more than enough when closing off nicely nearer the inside behind a promising animal in Resonator. He’s bred to swim and the smaller field offsets the wide gate, meaning he won’t be as far back.
7 O’Tycoon (Bet Now:ย $2.90 TOP ODDS) looks a promising juvenile for Bjorn Baker that is on debut. This colt has had three trials to get ready for start one, having a summer prep with one trial, winning that and being spelled. This time in he’s had two trials and looked sharp. Could have run on Wednesday but comes here. He’ll take beating.
4 Kandos Cosmos (Bet Now:ย $10.00 TOP ODDS) is a Terry Croft trained juvenile that was triple figures in betting when debuting at Canterbury and while he was flattered by the track pattern, he savaged the line late to just miss out on the win. I doubt he’s good enough to beat these, but one for multiples.
Race 2. (11:35) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1200m
6 Boom Boom Basil (Bet Now:ย $11.00 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win a Highway for Brett Robb. Both runs this time in have come in Highways, first up at Randwick when second to Lucky Sham before going to Gosford where he was good in defeat on the tight track when fourth to Freedom Square. Third up, hard fit, he’ll take beating.
5 Hardware Lane (Bet Now:ย $2.50 TOP ODDS) is a Mitch Beer trained three year old that comes here off the back of a dominant Highway win at Hawkesbury. Given a peach by J Mac, he was put into a lovely spot and just a matter of pushing the button. Once he did, away he went and he was dominant. He can win again.
10 Markwell Dreamer (Bet Now:ย $8.00 TOP ODDS) has been up a little while but is holding his form quite nicely. He was good against the pattern two back behind Lucky Sham before being a real eye catcher from the back at Gosford. Bigger track suits and dangerous if he’s within range on the turn.
Race 3. (12:10) Schweppes (Bm72) 1500m
2 Rangi Toa (Bet Now:ย $2.40 TOP ODDS) looks a horse of some promise for Chris Waller. Resumed on the Kenso on Anzac Day where he led throughout and was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure to fend them off and get the win. He’s got good upside to come and has a good racing style.
4 Elusive Jewel (Bet Now:ย $3.90 TOP ODDS) has come back in super order for John Thompson. Resumed with a dominant win at Goulburn before a game second to Quintello at Randwick. She then went to Gosford and loved the way she knuckled down in defeat when a narrow second to Solar Apex. Has to be hard to beat here.
7 Hollywood North (Bet Now:ย $5.00 TOP ODDS) is a Chris Waller trained three year old that is in a purple patch. Couple of dominant wins prior to heading to Gosford. He loomed to win but I reckon 1600m at this level just sees him out when third to stablemate Solar Apex. Back to 1500m a big tick and is a key threat.
Race 4. (12:45) Midway (Bm72) 1400m
6 Media Starguest (Bet Now:ย $9.00 TOP ODDS) for me. Ron Quinton trained gelding that resumed over 1250m at Canterbury on a testing track. He was never really a winning threat but his finale was pretty good behind Jojo Was A Man. The rise to 1400m looks idea for him and is a second up winner. He’ll take beating in what looks a winnable Midway.
7 Son Of Sampson (Bet Now:ย $6.00 TOP ODDS) seems to be enjoying life under the care of Gary Portelli. Loved the ticker he showed to win at Kembla last time out. He was there to be run down by Cyborg but he fought that horse off and kicked hard to win and win well. Think he can measure up against these.
18 Bob’s Your Uncle (Bet Now:ย $26.00 TOP ODDS) comes here with fresh legs and could be dangerous at odds. He ran at Warwick Farm on April 18 where he found a very heavy track. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning factor, he closed off with some purpose behind Cafe Royal. Think that form reads well enough for this.
Race 5. (13:20) Canadian Club (Bm72) 2000m
3 Ting Tong (Bet Now:ย $6.50) is a Kris Lees trained three year old that has done little wrong in a nine start career for Kris Lees. He comes through the Hameron race from a fortnight back at Gosford and was held up for a stride or two, but he had his chance in a good effort behind the Waller three year old heading towards the Derby. Commands respect.
10 Saucey Horsey (Bet Now:ย $6.50) is a talented filly for the Maher/Eustace camp that comes to town off the back of a dominant win on testing ground at Kilmore. I will say she was flattered by the wet track and the track pattern, suiting on speed/fence, but that said, she was still dominant against older horses, and is in the right camp to rise through the ranks.
14 Awesome Wonder (Bet Now:ย $7.00) could be a good one. Time will tell. Import that made her Australian debut in a Wyong maiden and while she beat zilch, the manner in which she put them away was impressive and she was strong through the line, suggesting a rise to 2000m is no issue and she clearly has more upside than most.
Race 6. (13:55) Fujitsu General (Bm78) 1800m
10 Rebel Rama (Bet Now:ย $9.50) gets conditions to suit and I think she has returned pretty well. Resumed over the mile at Gosford and while she was never a winning threat, I liked the way she finished her race off when fourth to Solar Apex. Proven at the track, and on wet ground, plus is down in the weights after the claim.
8 Oceanic Flash (Bet Now:ย $10.00) should love the rise in trip for the Ryan/Alexiou camp. Several weeks between runs since resuming over 1300m at Hawkesbury and really warmed to the task late in a good return behind a quality horse in Norwegian Bliss. Got a good amount of upside under the belt and with the claim, is hard to beat.
5 Mr Gee (Bet Now:ย $17.00) looks suited here for John O’Shea. He was given a mini freshen up leading into last time out at Hawkesbury where he got a mile out of his ground and was never a factor behind Deepstrike. Just think he needed the run so fitter, he deserves another chance.
Race 7. (14:30) Lord Mayors Cup 2000m
4 Hopeful (Bet Now:ย $4.50) looks like he will be winning races down under. Australian debut for Annabel Neasham came in the Hawkesbury Cup and I loved the way he found the line in defeat when second to Kirwan’s Lane. 2400m+ is when he comes into his own based on his European form, but off the resumption, he has to be hard to beat here.
3 Aleas (Bet Now:ย $5.00) has a sense of timing about him and has the Waller polish. Lovely ride from Chad Schofield saw him win the Wagga Cup, knuckling down strongly to wear them down in a good finish. Has upside to come and in a leading camp, he’ll be around the mark.
12 Mirann (Bet Now:ย $16.00) is a working progress for John O’Shea. He was originally brought over as a Melbourne Cup prospect last year but things didn’t quite go to plan. In need of the run fresh behind Irish Sequel before going to Gosford and contesting the Gosford Cup where he ran a much improved race when third to Numerian. Bigger track, fitter, he has class, so he commands respect.
Race 8. (15:05) Furphy (Bm78) 1200m
16 Bitcoin Baby (Bet Now:ย $5.00) will appeal to punters and I dare say #TeamPro given she’s below the minimum and will race handy. Resumes for the Ryan/Alexiou camp, having not raced since a solid effort in the Gosford Guineas behind Bacchanalia. Trialled well leading in and will give plenty of cheek.
13 Sunborn (Bet Now:ย $5.00) looks to have come back in really good order. Ed Cummings trained mare that was backed with confidence when resuming in a Midway at Randwick and despite the track being absolutely bottomless, she had panels on them re class and bolted in. She’s come back a better horse and should take beating once again.
9 Mariamia (Bet Now:ย $5.00) looks like she will have a good career under the care of Joe Pride. First run for the stable came two weeks ago at Randwick over 1100m and although she was clearly no match for Andermatt and Dragonstone, I thought she stuck to the task pretty well. Run under the belt, I think she’s a key chance.
Race 9. (15:45) Kia (Bm88) 1500m
Good test here for 13 Quintello (Bet Now:ย $2.00), but she looks a very promising mare and confident she can continue her winning ways despite the tricky date. Few weeks between runs since bolting up at Randwick, lapping up the bog track under J Mac. That followed a dominant win fresh at Mornington. Wide gate, but unlike most engaged, her ceilling is unknown.
7 Solar Apex (Bet Now:ย $6.50) tends to race best early on in a prep so I think follow with confidence. Market wanted him when he resumed at Gosford two weeks ago and under a lovely ride from Tom Sherry, he proved too good in a driving go. Fitter, he’ll take beating once again.
Fitter and up to 1500m are two big ticks for 8 Night Of Power (Bet Now:ย $8.00). Bjorn Baker trained gelding that resumed at Hawkesbury three weeks back where he paraded like he would need the run so no shock to see him not in the finish, but his finale was more than sound behind Norwegian Bliss, a quality mare. Better set up here and flies second up.
Race 10. (16:25) Bowermans (Bm78) 1200m
13 Skywolf (Bet Now:ย $3.40) in the get out. Team Hawkes has this gelding in really good form at the moment. Loved the ticker he showed to win at Sandown last start. He was there to be beaten from on speed but he found under presure and kicked hard to win, just. He’ll lob into a dream spot from the gate, hard fit, in form…he’s the one.
2 Rainbow Connection (Bet Now:ย $4.50) is a fascinating runner. Matty Dunn trains this four year old, who hasn’t raced since the 2021 Hawkesbury Guineas when a narrow second to Exoboom, who would be odds on in a race like this. Given a long break and with three trials under the belt, the grounding is there. Just wait and see what the market does.
14 The Big Easy (Bet Now:ย $10.00) is in with a shout for the Maher/Eustace camp. He ran a few weeks back at Randwick on a very testing track and battled away really well in defeat when third to American President. Firmer footing this time around, he is right in the mix as a threat.
