Nine races will be run and won at Ascot on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (15:04) Amelia Park Mdn 1500m
11 Trisuem (Bet Now: $3.20) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but this does look a very thin maiden and the set up is ideal for her. Got back off the speed last time out when up in trip and working home strongly. Parnham steers, Blinkers first time…looks a good set up.
3 Springsure Lad (Bet Now: $4.00) has had two career outings and has placed each time. Latest of those placings came at Bunbury last time out when off the speed and looming large to win, but got worried out of it. He’s bursting to win his maiden and gets a great chance here.
6 Magic’s Heritage (Bet Now: $14.00) is the interesting runner. Resumed last Saturday and didn’t really fire a shot. Jordan Turner told stewards post race that the horse didn’t like racing without blinkers. They’re back on and backs up straight away.
Race 2. (15:44) Crown Perth Plate 1000m
10 Michelada (Bet Now: $4.20) gets the nod in what looks a tricky race for the juveniles. Debuts for Simon Miller off the back of several trials. Latest trial saw her win at Lark Hill and she looked pretty good. Draws well and good lead that Pike steers.
4 Buster’s Force (Bet Now: $3.30) looks a talented colt for David Harrison that debuts and off the trials, he’s hard to beat. Latest trial saw him win and win quite impressively to the eye, bolting up over 950m at Lark Hill. Blinkers on for start one indicates real intent.
8 Snippagem (Bet Now: $61.00) can be an improver here at a price. Debuted behind Sniparoochy a fortnight ago and seemed to have her chance, not really being a winning threat. Draws soft and gets Blinkers first time so think she’s a filly who can sneak a first four spot.
Race 3. (16:24) Devil's Lair Plate 1000m
4 Iseered Iseered (Bet Now: $3.80) looks wound right up to win for mine. Luke Fernie trained three year old that resumes, having not since debuting at Kalgoorlie and bolting up. Given a good hit out in her latest trial win and think if he’s within range on the turn, he can win.
3 Madam Torio (Bet Now: $1.90) is an absolute beauty for Martin Allan. Sustained speed from the front will win you more races than lose them, so think she’s a leading chance here despite being five weeks between runs. She will lead this field up and look the winner for a long way. Last 50m will be the test.
9 Red Inferno (Bet Now: $31.00) does seem more effective at 1000m so giving her some form of respect. Ran down the straight at Pinjarra last time when on speed and proving too good. Draws to get a soft run in transit and could sneak a first four spot.
Race 4. (17:04) Tabtouch Platinum (rs0mw) 1100m
Not the strongest race so going for the one with upside and progression, which is with 10 Universal Pleasure (Bet Now: $2.70). Ran in a 1100m maiden at Bunbury last time out where she had the suck run behind the speed before getting an inside split and showing good change up speed to win and win well. Only has to carry 51kg after the claim, she’s likeable.
7 Tinto Belle (Bet Now: $9.50) has a good record at Ascot and can bounce back here. Seemed to have her chance at Bunbury last time but was still far from disgraced in defeat. Back to Ascot in what looks a thin race, she can easily bounce back against this lot.
5 Paris Report (Bet Now: $10.00) is a handy mare that resumes and her best is certainly capable. Hasn’t raced since August 20 at Pinjarra where she was down the track and at the end of a long prep. Thought the recent trial was encouraging and can certainly finish over the top.
Race 5. (17:43) Iron Jack (bm65+) 1600m
Can understand Pike jumping aboard 1 Cousin Ivan (Bet Now: $3.80). Thought it was a really good return by the four year old over 1400m here two weeks ago, working home strongly from the back behind Cryptic Love. Much better suited up in trip with the run under the belt and keep in mind two back he was a Stakes winner.
5 Wild Fusion (Bet Now: $6.00) is flying and is hard to beat here. Was several weeks between runs when contesting the Fitzpatrick Plate at Albany and finished off hard from the back when second to Echo Effect. Fitter and up to 1600m I do like, plus Chris Parnham gets on very well with him.
Not sure 6 Kia Ora Star (Bet Now: $15.00) can win but he is a must include in multiples. Michael Lane trained seven year old that is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance and was just fair without jumping up and down behind Ration Aly. The depth here isn’t as strong…just query whether he wants further.
Race 6. (18:20) Western Racepix (rs1mw) 1800m
Does look a race in two. With the upside, just going with 3 Queen Takes King (Bet Now: $2.90). Resumed over the mile here two weeks ago and was one of the real eye catchers of the meeting, closing off with purpose late when a close up fourth to No Surrender. Fitter and up to 1800m, Pike steering, happy to be in her corner.
4 Sowar (Bet Now: $4.80) is bursting to win another race for Steve Wolfe. Looked like it would come at Albany last time out but had to settle for a narrow second to Big Bada Boom, who finished best under Pike. Blinkers off/Winkers on for this gelding and parks to get a lovely run just off the speed.
6 Overthought (Bet Now: $11.00) is a little query at a strong 1800m but two big ticks for her fans are that she gets gate one, so should do no work in transit, and the other big tick is that the dreaded bar plates are coming off from the hind. Last run was in the No Surrender race mentioned above when near the speed and sticking on well to run a close up fifth. One for multiples.
Race 7. (19:00) Australia Day Trophy (bm78+) 1500m
Was on 6 Lorentinio (Bet Now: $9.00) each way when he raced here a fortnight ago in the Easingworld and think that’s the option again here. He gave an almighty sight from the front in that race and looked home, but was nabbed late by Dig Deep. He’ll lead this field up…just hope he can kick on stronger at the end.
5 Son Of A God (Bet Now: $2.00) has to be given another chance. He was a short priced elect in that race mentioned above but unfortunately for his fans, was caught wide no cover for the trip. Did a great job to stick on like he did and run third. Better luck this time around and he can win. Just wonder if that run has busted him or not.
Not sure he wins, but for wider exotics, can certainly entertain 1 Falcon Crest (Bet Now: $27.00). Resumed in the same race where he was taken back to near last in more of a prep, but liked the way he finished his race off behind Dig Deep. 1600m+ is when to bet up I say, but he could be a sleeper from the gate.
Race 8. (19:40) Morley Growers Market (rs1mw) 1200m
Any hint of improvement from the resumption and this looks a lovely race for 9 Mickey Blue Eyes (Bet Now: $4.40). Had his first run for the Gangemi team at this track/distance two weeks ago and was just about the blackbooker of the meeting when a close up fifth to Excellent Dream. Hopefully can sit closer in the run from the better draw and just has to improve naturally from that to just about win this.
2 Tommy Blue (Bet Now: $3.20) is a good mare for Simon Miller that has to command respect here despite a shocking draw. Resumed over 1200m at Pinjarra when ridden positively from the outset and in the end, it was her class that came to the fore in an impressive performance. Pike rode that day and he sticks with the mare for this.
8 Grand Design (Bet Now: $15.00) looks to have returned in good order for David Harrison. Resumed over 1100m at Albany where she got back to near last in the run and was never really a winning threat but liked the way she finished her race off to finish third. If she can settle handy from the inside gate, she’ll be dangerous at odds.
Race 9. (20:20) Ascend Sales Trophies (bm72+) 1000m
Looks to be a stack of speed here in the get out so want to be on something to blouse them and one horse who does fit that criteria is 5 Night Voyage (Bet Now: $27.00). It was a similar set up for him when he got the win at this track/distance three weeks ago, just holding on and beating Giant Leap. He’ll sit off this fast speed and be strong at the end.
6 Plutocracy (Bet Now: $7.00) is a market watch for sure. Simon Miller trained gelding that is seven weeks between runs since resuming over 1100m here where he was somewhat run off his legs early but picked up and looked dangerous until he ran out of condition late. Will need luck but if the breaks go his way, he can win.
8 Pearls And Prawns (Bet Now: $10.00) can win this without surprising and noteworthy that the stable finds Pike to steer. Had no trials leading into her resumption three weeks ago and I thought she was pretty plain after getting every chance. Is a second up winner and interestingly there was good market support at a price fresh.
