Back Me

Been on 13 Domineer (Bet Now: $9.00) at her past couple and going to butter up again. Ran over this track/distance last Thursday when getting well back off the speed and Parnham was trying to slice his way through the field, but couldn’t really get a chance to build up proper momentum when a closing fourth to stablemate Vital Image. If this was 1800m, she’d be a good thing, but staying at 1600m should be fine.

Danger

11 Hip Wiggle (Bet Now: $5.50) has had numerous chances to break the maiden tag but she does try hard and hasn’t been far away of late. Ran over 1300m at Pinjarra last time out when a short priced elect and looked to have every chance when a close up second to Balldeer. Has to be a query at 1600m, but should get a lovely run from the gate.

Long Shot

Really like 5 Heaps Of Moolah (Bet Now: $12.00) up to 1600m for the Bernie Miller camp. Ran over 1400m at Ascot two weeks ago and was a real eye catcher from the back when sixth to Interstate, beaten just under three lengths. The problem he has is that he has no early speed at all, but stepping up to the mile is a big tick.

Race 2. (14:37) Laverrod Western Racepix Ascot 1300m

Back Me

Just has to hold his form and 1 Charleton Eddie (Bet Now: $1.22) wins again. The Casey stable look to have a decent juvenile on their hands with this gelding, who has won three on end, the latest coming at Ascot when leading throughout and giving them a proper spanking. This race actually looks weaker, so hard to see him getting beat unless he has an off day.

Danger

4 Dad’s Bigheaded (Bet Now: $11.00) looks one of the key chances for the Colin Webster team. Ran over 1100m at Ascot just over two weeks ago when back in the run before getting splits between runners and savaging the line late to run second to Kissonallforcheeks, who won last Saturday to frank the form. Was coming back in trip too, so up to 1300m looks ideal.

2 Fuhrer (Bet Now: $6.50), despite an awful overall time in winning last time, is the pony for me. Talented three year old who was down the track in the J C Roberts before being freshened up and racing over 1400m at Ascot where he was back in the small field but Pateman stuck to the inside and away the horse went, dashing right away late to win like it was a barrier trial. As I said, the overall time was slow, but to the eye, he was most impressive.

Danger

3 Resortman (Bet Now: $1.70) looks ideally suited up to 1400m for Michael Lane. Resumed over 1200m at Ascot a fortnight back when heavily supported late in betting and under a lovely steer just off the speed from Yuill, the son of Helmet barged into the clear and he was strong to the line in winning. Should eat up the extra 200m and has more upside than most.

Long Shot

4 Stella Door (Bet Now: $5.50) is starting to put it together now, with a large reason for that being Pike jumping on. He has been on the past two outings, and the gelding has won each time. Latest of those wins came a couple of Wednesdays back over 1200m here when leading throughout and what I liked is that he dug in when challenged and kicked strongly late, something he hadn’t done in the past. Interesting to see how he goes up in trip.

Race 4. (15:57) Perth Racing At Home (Bm78+) 2200m

Back Me

Back up in trip should suit the Team Williams stayer 1 Red Army (Bet Now: $5.00). Impressive winner over 2200m at Ascot before going back to 1800m in the Diggers Cup and they were just too sharp for him. Has a fab record at Belmont and although is topweight, he is the clear class runner and back up in trip, he’ll take some beating.

Danger

4 Noir De Rue (Bet Now: $5.50) looks to have some upside in the tank and is another who likes Belmont. Ran two weeks ago at Ascot when outside stablemate Utgard Loki in what turned into a real sit/sprint affair, with Utgard Loki having the more brilliance to win. Think if this is a truly run 2200m, Noir De Rue turns the tables and goes close to winning.

Long Shot

2 Touch Of Silver (Bet Now: $7.00) is a bit unknown at this distance range. He comes through the Utgard Loki race from a fortnight back when getting the box seat sit and tried hard, but just doesn’t have the turn of foot and just whacked away for fourth. He’ll be hoping for a more genuine tempo, and if that eventuates, he should be fine at the trip.

Race 5. (16:34) Gourmet Takeaway (Rs1mw) 2100m

3 Picture Perfect (Bet Now: $4.00) looks one of the safer options against these. Four weeks between runs for Team Williams, having not raced since Anzac Day when back, wide with cover, and worked to the line pretty well, but did get held up at times, so there were excuses. Tricky races these staying contests, but he looks a safe play.

Danger

16 Petticoat Junction (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Justin Warwick trained stayer. Think he has a pretty smart filly on his hands here, with this girl beating the older horses over a staying trip at her past couple, and for me, I always give a big tick to three year olds that can beat older horses, especially over a staying trip. Has to be respected again.

Long Shot

7 Watch Me Ney Ney (Bet Now: $19.00) is worth another chance I think. Was on him two weeks ago at Ascot over 1800m, but failed to come on in a very disappointing effort after seemingly getting every chance. Prior efforts suggested a win was near, and I think a good lead here is that Paul Harvey sticks despite the last start flop.

Race 6. (17:10) Amelia Park (Rs1mw) 1200m

Back Me

Think a bit of class and quality will get 13 Showmanship (Bet Now: $2.10) home for Team Williams, who is first up. Hasn’t raced since June last year when having his second start in his opening career and should have won, but just had no luck at all at a vital stage. Trialled well last week at Belmont and think he’s got these covered if he’s anywhere near right.

Danger

4 Glasgow Girl (Bet Now: $20.00) gets one last chance. There seems to be a real pattern with this Lindsey Smith trained mare. She catches the eye first up, generally flops second up, then produces a really strong third up bounce back. She was outstanding first up in a hot race won by Mervyn before seemingly getting every chance several weeks ago and running poorly behind Celebrity Queen. 2/2 third up so banking on that pattern continuing.

Long Shot

Gee 1 Sir Mambo (Bet Now: $11.00) is a beauty. He’s not the best horse going around, but he does try hard, and that was a big reason why he won at Ascot three weeks ago when wearing down a tough nut in Round The Point. Form out of that race has been pretty good and has placed in five from seven runs at Belmont. The gate just makes things tricky.

Race 7. (17:49) Crown Perth (Bm72+) 1400m

2 Moschard (Bet Now: $7.00) has a fabulous track/distance record and I think he can continue that here. Didn’t have much luck in his first two runs back from a spell but the rub of the green went his way two weeks ago at Ascot when finishing best from off the speed under a lovely ride from Pike. He’ll get a nice run from the inside draw and prove hard to beat.

Danger

I think this run will determine if 5 Massimo (Bet Now: $3.30) is a contender or pretender. There was talk during the Summer Carnival that he could be a sneaky Winterbottom chance for 2020, but he’s been really disappointing from a betting perspective in both runs back from a break, the latest seeing him well held when second to Double Bubble. Hard fit now, no excuses.

Long Shot

10 Bel My Pago (Bet Now: $12.00) is a key chance for Lindsey Smith. Just got too far back first up behind Black Ducati before going to Bunbury where she again got back but was able to slice her way through the field and was good late when third. Has a strong record at Belmont and was outstanding at this track third up last prep.

Complete throw at the stumps in the Final with 13 Gifted Warrior (Bet Now: $26.00), who is third up here and should be close to peak fitness. Both runs back from a break have come at Bunbury. Needed the run first up but liked the way he found the line from off the pace last start, clocking good late splits. Has run well in town before and this race does look wide open and really, any one of these could win without surprising.

Danger

16 Pastry (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Peter Fernie trained mare that has run well in town before so think she can measure up here. She ran in a heat of this series on her home track at Kalgoorlie when back in the run over 1200m and working home well late to run third. Yet to prove herself beyond 1200m but is racing as if 1400m will be fine and is in the right stable.

Long Shot

9 Magniforce (Bet Now: $27.00) lacks the class of some of these but has the right racing pattern and will give himself every chance from near the front. Was on speed in a heat of this series at Kalgoorlie and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Tajmali. Either leads or box seats from gate one and will try hard.

Race 9. (18:50) Iron Jack (Bm66+) 1600m

Back Me

3 Sliced Bread (Bet Now: $5.00) is one of the leading chances. Ran in a heat of the Provincial series at Bunbury back on March 22 when a fast finishing second to Ice Trade and in two runs since, both in town, he has really caught the eye in the way he has finished off, the latest a narrow second to Moschard, who would be favourite here. Hard to beat.

Danger

10 Dawn Armada (Bet Now: $8.00) is a mare who is a little while between wins, but she’s racing well and big tick for her is Pike taking the ride. Attempted to lead throughout last Wednesday over the Ascot mile and gave a really good kick, but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Grey Enigma. Good record at Belmont and have to respect the fact stable finds Pike to steer.

Long Shot

What’s 2 British Bessy (Bet Now: $11.00) doing coming back to 1600m. I would have assumed she would have gone to the 2200m race instead of coming back to the mile, so is this a prep run for a step up in trip? Not sure, but she was very good last start over 2100m when a mile off them but closed off with real purpose to run fifth. She’ll be one of the strongest near the line.
