Golden Rose 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Golden Rose
Race 1. (11:55) Tab Highway Hcp (C2) 1500m
I am convinced that 1 Jalmari (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) is flying. He was excellent against the pattern two back at Randwick behind Opal Ridge before backing up a week later where the race shape was clearly against him but was good late behind Xtra Approval. Hard fit now and up to 1500m, hopefully with a more genuine tempo, he’ll take beating.
4 Airliner (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) has only won the one race but he is a horse with talent I feel. Broke the maiden tag two back at Kembla before going to the Highway here a fortnight back where he was near last in the run and never a factor but was very good late in the piece behind Xtra Approval. If he can settle closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.
5 Ribeauville (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) can improve. Two he won over the mile at Wagga before coming back to 1400m here and was solid without jumping up and down behind Xtra Approval, with a race shape not really suiting him. Back up in trip now, I think he’s in with a shout at a price.
Race 2. (12:30) Midway (Bm72) 1300m
3 Mayrose (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) is a great each way bet IMO. John Sargent trained mare that ran in the Kipsbay Midway from two weeks ago where she was dragged back to last from the wide gate and was never a factor but was very good late in defeat. Jockey upgrade IMO and draws to settle 5-6 lengths closer in the run. Has to be the bet.
I’ve been keen on 2 Oakfield Duke (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) as a Four Pillars horse, so keen to see how he goes at this level. He has won four on the bounce, the latest coming on Wyong Cup Day when wide throughout but class came to the fore and he was too good. If he can stretch his brilliance out beyond a sprint trip, they’re cooking with gas.
13 Verbek (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) is another improver at odds. He resumed in the Kipsbay Midway and was simialr to Mayrose. Back near last, spotted those in front way too much head start, but closed off with real purpose. Blake Shinn on from a good draw, he’s right in the mix here.
Race 3. (13:05) Cleanaway (Bm88) 1900m
11 Hameron (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) to bounce back. Like most, I was keen on him when he raced two weeks ago here, but I reckon Bowman just rode him a touch cute. He is a one paced type that needs to build the revs but he just waited a bit too long to get going. He was was left flat footed but surged again late, just missing out on the win behind Pink Ivory. Ridden better, I think he’ll bounce back.
6 Wicklow (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) looks the one to beat. He ran over the Randwick mile three weeks ago and I think he should have won. Had zero luck in the straight, with Avdulla trying to find clear air, but it just didn’t eventuate. That was his first run in several weeks so you’d like to think there is good upside to come.
12 Quality Time (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) rises a fair bit in grade/depth for Chris Waller but comes here in ripping form. Just missed out on the win two back on the Kenso before going to Canterbury where Gibbons took control in front and gave nothing else a look in, spanking them. Harder here, but in form and down in the weights, he can measure up.
Race 4. (13:40) Colin Stephen Qlty 2400m
It’s hard to get away from 1 Cadre Du Noir (Bet Now: $1.80 TOP ODDS). Maher/Eustace trained import that is seemingly getting better with racing and time. Got control in front three weeks ago at Randwick and he gave nothing else a look in, spanking his rivals by a space. Heading in the right direction and can win again.
5 Herman Hesse (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) is hit and miss but if he runs up to his last start win here, he’ll take beating. Collett rode him positively from the outset and as the race went on, he got better and spanked them. Down in the weights and with these Maher/Eustace stayers, once they find form, they hold it.
7 Fun Fact (Bet Now: $11.00) hasn’t been too bad in two runs back from a spell. Far from disgraced two back behind Niffler fresh before going here where he led and he fought on really well in defeat behind Pink ivory. He’ll find the front again and if this track is playing on speed, he comes right into play.
Race 5. (14:15) City Tattersalls Group (Bm88) 1400m
I like 15 Narrated (Bet Now: $10.00) here. Thrown in the deep end last start in the Rowley Mile when on speed and just lacked the change up speed to go with them but was far from disgraced behind Skyman. Tick over trial was a good piece of work and with only 52kg on her back, gee I think she’ll run a positive race.
2 Puntura (Bet Now: $7.00) will be in front and gets T Clark, so that set up looks perfect. This guy was backed with confidence two weeks ago at Doomben where he was on speed, chasing, and fought on bravely, but the horse that had the suck run, Tumbler Ridge, finished best. In front and with control, he’ll take beating.
10 Solar Apex (Bet Now: $18.00) is a son of Deep Impact for Chris Waller that resumes and is a bomb fresh. He hasn’t raced since July 10 when second in the South Grafton Cup, a Big Dance Qualifier, so potentially could be heading down that path. One soft trial to get ready, his fresh record keeps him in the mix.
Race 6. (14:50) Heritage Stakes 1100m
3 Semillion (Bet Now: $2.80) is suited here I feel. Team Hawkes trained colt that ran against the big boys and girls in the McEwen and he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Rothfire in a race where I think the form will be strong. Back to his own age and hard fit now, he’ll take beating against these.
5 Economics (Bet Now: $5.50) is first up here for Annabel Neasham and commands respect. He had two runs in the Autumn to start his career, running second on debut at Muswellbrook before going to the Scone Carnival where J Mac got on in a maiden, class came to the fore and he was too good. Sharp trial win at Warwick Farm, he’ll land on the bunny and prove hard to get past.
11 Wingardium (Bet Now: $11.00) is an improver. Thrown in the deep end when resuming in the Furious and she just didn’t handle the conditions at all when down the track behind North Star Lass. Tick over trial was a good piece of work and with the scratchings, this race has thinned right out. Knockout hope.
Race 7. (15:25) Golden Pendant 1400m
5 Expat (Bet Now: $11.00) deserves another look. Mark Newnham trained mare that resumed in the Mona Lisa at Wyong where she was near the speed throughout and couldn’t fire late behind surprise winner Meg. Tick over trial win was strong and with a soft lead on the cards, I think she’ll run a beauty in front.
1 Nimalee (Bet Now: $6.00) has class and that will carry her a long way against these. Too bad to be true fresh in the Missile before going to the Tramway off a freshen up and ran very well on speed when third to a star, Zaaki. Trialled last week and moved well to my eye. She’s on song for this.
3 Jamaea (Bet Now: $12.00) is working up to a win for Team Price. Loomed like she would win the Theo Marks two weeks ago but she couldn’t quite get there and just battled away when a close up fourth to Kiku. If this was at Randwick, she’d be a good thing, but even at Rosehill, she has the runs on the board to prove hard to beat.
Race 8. (16:05) Golden Rose 1400m
15 She’s Extreme (Bet Now: $9.50) I’ll be backing each way because she has class, upside and will be strong late. She resumed in the Furious and she was very good against the pattern behind North Star Lass in a strong return. I think she’ll be hard to beat, especially if they ride her forward.
16 In Secret (Bet Now: $2.80) has the brilliance to blow this field away. Her change up speed was there for all to see in the Run To The Rose. She put them away quickly and got better as the race went on, so the rise to 1400m should be fine, and with her turn up speed, she’ll take beating and be strong late.
12 Millane (Bet Now: $31.00) should be around the mark. He was very good fresh in the Vain before going to Moonee Valley where he was wide no cover for the trip and he battled away really well behind Shalaman, who had the pattern in his corner. He’s crying out for 1400m and should be strong late.
Race 9. (16:45) Shannon Stakes 1500m
11 Old Flame (Bet Now: $5.00) is hard to beat for Team Snowden. He is four weeks between runs since resuming with a strong win over 1400m here, just getting the better of Purple Sector, who ran well in the Bill Ritchie last Saturday, so the form reads very well. Kept on ice with the Epsom in mind, potentially, so he’s hard to beat here.
2 Ellsberg (Bet Now: $2.80) is a key threat. He resumed in the Theo Marks where they rode with a sit, and it backfired. He had zero luck in the straight when seemingly full of running but couldn’t get clear air when he wanted it before getting out, but it was too late. More positive ride, he can bounce back.
6 Bigboyroy (Bet Now: $19.00) is capable with his best. He resumed in the Theo Marks as well where they rode positively from the outset in a truly run race and he just battled late, with condition giving way. J Mac is back on and from the inside gate, should do no work and be better for the resumption. Hard to beat.
Race 10. (17:25) Irresistible Pools & Spas-Bm78 1100m
4 Fire (Bet Now: $4.20) is a quality sprinter for Team Hawkes that should take beating. Four weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he threw the race away. He was going to put the race to bed but wandered about under pressure and threw it away when second to Monte Ditto. If he does everything right, he wins.
8 Kipsbay (Bet Now: $6.00) looks a really nice horse for Nathan Doyle. 2/2 since leaving Chris Waller. He gapped them fresh at Gosford before winning a Midway here a fortnight back where he was smashed in betting, he found the front and didn’t give anything else a look in. If he runs up to that here, he’ll go close.
6 Authentic Jewel (Bet Now: $19.00) is first up for Brad Widdup and is potentially dangerous. She hasn’t raced since July 2 on an absolute bog here when a game fourth to Riva Del Sol, beaten just over two lengths. Trials leading in have been sound, she sprints well fresh and maps ideally.
