25/4/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gawler, Anzac Day races

Eight races will be run and won at Gawler this Thursday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out two metres from the 800m-400m; True for the remainder.

Race 1. (13:11) Peace Declared 1919 Handicap (Class Two) 1106

Back Me

2 Captain California (Bet Now: $9.50) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets his chance here. Ran over 1050m at Oakabnk last time where Fawke got him to the right part of the track, out near the outside rail and he came with good momentum late. On the replay, he looked to have got the win, but the photo didn’t go his way. Third up, back up in trip, he looks ready to win.

Danger

5 Regalo Di Gaetano (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Team Jolly trained son of Supreme Class who was unwanted in betting when resuming in a 1200m maiden at Balaklava but got a really good win on the board despite sitting wide no cover in a maiden which had depth to it. Entitled to drop off but he kept finding and the bob of the head was a good one. Straight to Class Two, but as I said, that maiden had depth.

Long Shot

3 Maori Magic (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Paula Tremworth trained gelding first up. This son of Per Incanto hasn’t raced since November 17 over 1400m on the Parks track when finishing well back in defeat behind Mr Quickie, an above average three year old who is on the SA Derby path, so that form does read really well for this and I thought the recent trial was encouraging. Might want a tad further, but finds a winnable race if he’s right.

Race 2. (13:46) RSL SA - Coopers Handicap (70) 1206m

Back Me

Think this is really good placement from the Tony McEvoy stable when it comes to the three year old filly 8 Be My Star (Bet Now: $2.40). She was seven weeks between runs when racing on the Parks track last time where she loomed to win but I think the lack of race fitness just beat her in the end. That was 1000m and I think she’s better over further so up to 1200m with fitness under the belt, hard to beat.

Danger

2 Extreme Thrill (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Francis/Kent trained gelding who is just under four weeks between runs since coming with a barnstorming finish to win on the course proper at Morphettville against a line up which had a little bit of depth to it. He can be a bit hit and miss at times, but now he has a win on the board, hopefully he can go on with it and is good with fresh legs.

Long Shot

6 Two Odd Sox (Bet Now: $7.00) has been an absolute model of consistency for the Shayne Cahill stable throughout this prep. Has only won the one race this time in, but has placed a stack of times, including last start over 1200m at Mildura when back, wide, but closed off well to run a close up third. Good record at Gawler and will run his usual honest race I’m sure.

Race 3. (14:21) Thank You Veterans Maiden Plate 1506m

Back Me

12 Hinchpin (Bet Now: $2.05) on top in a race I don’t have much confidence in. Tony McEvoy trains this two year old, who debuted over 1400m at Balaklava when doing a bit of work to land on speed and he tried hard in the straight under Vorster but just found Ourkhani too good on the day. Not the strongest of maidens going around here, in the right stable, upside…looks most likely despite taking on seasoned horses.

Danger

10 Paris On Fire (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Darren Magro trained mare who had specking at odds when racing in an Oakbank and despite never really looking a winning threat, she made ground and was good in defeat behind impressive winner Putting On Airs. That’s two good runs at 1400m now, so up to 1500m here should suit and is one of several leading chances in a tough maiden.

Long Shot

7 Lippsy Shuffle (Bet Now: $9.00) can certainly win this if he brought his best form, but gee his recent efforts have been patchy. Was keen on him last week at Murray Bridge but he was pretty plain in the straight I thought behind Diplomatic Measure, but I will say that there was a hint of bias towards those on speed, so a tiny forgive. Can win at his best, but been a little while since he has shown that.

Race 4. (15:00) Frank Owen OAM Handicap (56) 1206m

Back Me

Going the way of the David Jolly trained 2 Doctor Doolittle (Bet Now: $3.40). This son of Animal Kingdom resumed at Morphettville where he got back in the run and closed off alright without really being a winning threat behind Alaskan Jade, who ran well last weekend at Oakbank, so the form reads alright for a pretty thin 56, and with upside, I think he’s the pony to bet on.

Danger

7 Social Media (Bet Now: $7.50) is getting on in years for Alexander Justice but gee this mare is racing with a healthy zest. Has only missed the place once at her past six outings, even then it was a close up fifth here in what looked a handy race. Last run came at Port Augusta when wide no cover and battling away well when second to Uncle Kenneth. Two time winner here and with better luck, can win.

Long Shot

Heidi Smith trains the eight year old veteran 1 King’s Spirit (Bet Now: $7.50), who was completely unwanted in betting when resuming over the five furlongs at Mildura but he made up good ground after getting a fair way back in the run when beaten narrowly by Call Me Anything. The strength of that form I have doubts over, but this bloke does have a tidy second up record.

Race 5. (15:36) Light Horse - SA Bookmakers Association Maiden Plate 1206m

Back Me

14 You Hadme At Hello (Bet Now: $2.20) for me. Tony McEvoy trains this filly, who was thought highly enough of to debut in the Dequetteville at Morphettville where she was back and never really in the hunt behind Li’l Kontra. Outclassed there and this is a welcomed drop in grade/depth. Draws well, Vorster on, blinkers on first time…going with her given she has less convictions than most.

Danger

12 Movandi (Bet Now: $7.50) looks one of the hardest to beat for the Phillip Stokes stable. This daughter of Uncle Mo debuted over 1050m at Balaklava when back in the run and looked outsprinted for the most part but once she balanced up the final 250m, she lengthened and was really good in defeat, suggesting that 1200m+ will be ideal and is a clear winning threat.

Long Shot

4 Ultimate Reality (Bet Now: $10.00) may want a tad further but there was a lot to like about the first up run of this Shayne Cahill gelding, who resumed over 1200m at Balaklava when worse than midfield and chased hard all the way down the straight when third to impressive winner Ambidazzle. Off that, may want 1400m, but a strongly run 1200m will be no issue.

Race 6. (16:11) Anzac Appeal - Holdfast Insurance Handicap (60) 1506m

Back Me

Taking a chance on the four year old mare 6 Indrabeel (Bet Now: $2.90), a former Nigel Blackiston runner having her first run for the Tony McEvoy stable. This girl hasn’t raced since the latter part of the Summer when racing okay without winning. Not the greatest of strike rates, but this is one of the easier races she has contested in some time and can sprint well fresh.

Danger

2 Red Dazzle (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Peter Moody trained veteran who is eight years of age and is having start 91. Ran last week at Murray Bridge over the mile where he just got too far back in the run but worked home quite well, albeit well behind the dominant winner Borris In Ossary. Does tend to save his best for Gawler and I think up to 1500m will really suit him.

Long Shot

7 Mabel Josephine (Bet Now: $8.50) is a daughter of Dalakhani for Kristi Evans who was unwanted in betting when resuming at the midweeks at Balaklava where her race pattern of back, peel wide and let down was the right set up on the track and she really attacked the line late to grab a surprise win. Can only see upside from that, but is yet to put together good runs, which is the query.

Race 7. (16:46) Operation K9 - Goldin Farms Handicap (64) 1206m

Back Me

She’s been frustrating to follow for a while but surely 5 Al Naifa (Bet Now: $2.35) puts this field away. Tony McEvoy trains this three year old, who has contested some really good races since day one, with her lone win coming in a Sale maiden but she has placed in town and did place in the Dequetteville last year behind Group l placegetter Fundamentalist. Looked to be real intent in a sharp trial win at Morphettville, hopefully to get her confidence up.

Danger

6 Ambidazzle (Bet Now: $9.00) is a daughter of Ambidexter for Phillip Stokes who looked to parade a touch big and new prior to debuting at Balaklava but despite looking she might need the run, she showed good ticker in the straight when challenged and in the end was holding her rivals. Think she’ll take really good improvement from that and is a definite threat here.

Long Shot

4 Containment (Bet Now: $27.00) is a knockout chance if things fall into place for her. Resumed over 1100m here a few weeks back where she just looked in need of the run and that is how it panned out behind Touch. Subsequent tick over trial was very good to the eye I thought and she does seem to fire best when produced second up, so the set up is there to run a much improved race.

Race 8. (17:25) Gallipoli Memorial Trophy (64) 1706m

Back Me

5 Igitur (Bet Now: $10.00) can mix his form but I think he’s clearly the horse to beat here. Ran over this track/distance last time and I thought Raquel Clark gave the gelding every chance but just failed to reach Classic Weiwei, who won a Stakes race next start to tick that form off well and truly. Igitur is working up to a win I suspect and I think he gets a golden opportunity here.

Danger

3 Campobasso (Bet Now: $2.30) is third up in Australia for Michael Hickmott and should just about be ready fitness wise. Ran over the mile at Murray Bridge last Wednesday where he ran a close up fourth to surprise winner Right And Ready. I think 1700m will be fine for him but given that last start winner was a rank outsider, it does question the strength of that form reference. But in the right stable and has upside you would think.

Long Shot

4 Miss Identified (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Travis Doudle trained mare who has a really good record at Gawler and she finds a very winnable race if she found her best form. Ran over 1300m on the Parks track last time and was never in the hunt in an on pace dominated affair, but she was far from disgraced behind a Melbourne city class mare in Set To Sparkle, so that form reads well. Just has to carry the weight.
