Racing never mind Group l racing finally returns to Rosehill this Saturday, headlined by the Group l Golden Rose (1400m), featuring star colt Anamoe. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Golden Rose 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Golden Rose
Race 1. (11:55) Precise Air (bm88) 1900m
Back to 1900m is a big tick for 8 Yiyi (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS). Chris Waller trained gelding that ran over 2000m at Kembla two weeks ago. I thought he was there to win but I just think the 2000m found him out when a game third to stablemate Toomuchtobear. Back in trip I like, hard fit, racing well…now just needs a win on the board.
3 Our Intrigue (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) is a Chris Waller mare that is in a purple patch at the moment. Surprised many with her win at Kembla two back before racing there again a fortnight back when just failing to get up Toomuchtobear. Just has to hold her form and she’ll take beating.
Fitter and up in trip are two massive positives that can spark 1 Achiever (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) back into form. His two runs back from a break have come in Queensland over unsuitable trips, so I’d be forgiving of those efforts. Nash jumps on, likely finds the front and could prove tough to get past.
Race 2. (12:30) Tab Highway Hcp (c2) 1500m
3 Tap ‘N’ Run (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) is a progressive gelding for Ron Stubbs who looks like he will be suited up in trip. Loved the way he attacked the line to win two back over 1000m at Albury. He then stepped up to 1200m and was really good late when third to Budhwar, a solid provincial class horse. Yet to prove himself beyond 1200m, but off that Goulburn effort, 1500m looks fine.
4 So Say You (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win another Highway this time in. Did win at this track/distance three back in a Highway and has run in two Highways since, the latest a game third two weeks ago at Kembla. Gets to a track she has won and she’s knocking on the door.
8 Lord Desanimaux (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) has had two runs back from a break and third up, shouldn’t be far off peak fitness. Two runs back from a break have come in 1400m Highways at Kembla, the latest behind Philipsburg and wasn’t too bad in defeat. Not sure I could back him to win, but one for exotics.
Race 3. (13:05) Midway (bm72) 1300m
3 Ruby Tuesday (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) will put herself on speed and give her all. Was two months between runs when racing on the Kenso track a few weeks back and I thought she was an impressive all the way winner. There to be run down but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Harder here, but has the right racing pattern.
6 Dalaalaat (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) looks to have returned in good order for Nathan Doyle. Lovely ride from Collett saw him win impressively first up in the Midway two weeks ago at Kembla, driving hard late nearer the inside and proving too good. You’d like to think there is improvement to come and rates highly.
2 Exceltic (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) is racing really well for Gary Portelli and is knocking on the door to win a Midway. Has been close up his past two runs, both in Midways at Kembla, the latest being two weeks ago when a narrow second to Dalaalaat. 1300m is a query, but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
Race 4. (13:40) Colin Stephen Qlty 2400m
Interesting that 8 Skymax (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) is six weeks between runs for Mark Newnham. Hasn’t raced since he resumed in the Premiers Cup Prelude where he was specked at odds, but really, just needed the run behind Laure Me In. Good second up record, loves firm ground and should be on speed, running a bold race.
2 Entente (Bet Now: $4.20 TOP ODDS) is on the seven day back up for the WaterBott camp after racing last Saturday in the Kingston Town. He was helped by the track pattern but second up at 2000m on testing ground, he battled on well when third to She’s Ideel. Fitter, likely leads and will prove tough to get past.
12 Master Shuhood (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) can sneak a first four spot at odds. Ran out of his skin two back in the Wyong Cup behind Berdibek, then proved it was no fluke a week later when game in defeat behind Accountability. I doubt he wins, but I think he’s a must for multiples.
Race 5. (14:15) Heritage Stakes 1100m
Back on a firmer deck, I want to give 3 Paulele (Bet Now: $2.80) another chance. Gave them a spanking on a dry track first up in The Rosebud. Then went to the San Domenico where he found juice in the ground and wasn’t as effective when second to In The Congo. Back on top of the ground, off a good speed, he could explode and press claims for an Everest start.
4 King Of Sparta (Bet Now: $7.00) is three weeks between runs for Team Snowden since racing at Randwick where he was wide no cover for the trip and entitled to drop away but kept finding, only to run a narrow second to Geist. Back to 1100m, a dry deck, he could well explode.
He’s a star 1 Sword Of State (Bet Now: $6.00) and would not shock me that he won this and put his hand up for an Everest slot. The ratings boys and girls had him as the best 2YO in Australasia last season and the way he was winning, no doubt in my mind he would have gone close to winning the Golden Slipper. Went great in a trial behind Lost And Running and despite setbacks, he does have class.
Race 6. (14:50) Shannon Stakes 1500m
I find it very interesting that Chris Waller resumes 6 Yonkers (Bet Now: $41.00) in a Group ll. No place to hide really given his racing went up last time in, but a Group ll first up, on face value, seems a tough ask. But, this is a pretty thin Group ll IMO, he can sprint well fresh and looks to have trialled up nicely in readiness for his return. Market will be fascinating with this guy.
Is 10 Love Tap (Bet Now: $3.60) back? Jury was out after his run in Brisbane during the Winter. Resumed at Randwick and was awful behind Atishu. Went to Kembla two weeks ago where he was on speed throughout and once clicked up, away he went and he was dominant. Is he a Golden Eagle horse? We’ll find out here.
8 Discharged (Bet Now: $9.00) should be suited up in trip for the WaterBott camp. Trialled up well leading into his resumption in the Theo Marx where he was chasing a solid speed and being first up, his condition just gave way late. He is a second up winner and has more upside than most.
Race 7. (15:25) Golden Pendant 1400m
Bit left field, but could 2 Entriviere (Bet Now: $2.35) put her hand up for The Everest with a win here? There isn’t much left to choose from IMO re Everest perspective, and you could do worse than have a look at this mare, who is very sharp at 1200m and was a dominant winner of the Sheraco two weeks ago. Just needs to stretch her brilliance to 1400m and she’ll be winning.
10 Vangelic (Bet Now: $7.00) could be the map horse here for the WaterBott team. Definite pass mark I thought behind Entriviere at Kembla when fourth after getting a suck run behind the speed. If this track is playing on speed, she’ll come right into play given she looks to get a soft lead with a gun in Tim Clark to steer.
1 Forbidden Love (Bet Now: $10.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. Just looked in need of the run fresh in the Toy Show. Then went to the Sheraco and I thought was just fair behind Entriviere. Like her up to 1400m, hard fit now and has the runs on the board.
Race 8. (16:05) Golden Rose 1400m
If it’s too good to be true, it usually is. Luckily, Verry Elleegant was too good last Saturday where she looked a living, breathing. 1 Anamoe (Bet Now: $1.85) fits the same criteria. Resumed off a set back and one trial in the Run To The Rose. He made a mess of them and was arrogant. Fitter, up in trip, set weights…only thing beating him is bad luck.
2 Artorius (Bet Now: $11.00) has the ability to give some level of scare to Anamoe. Just took too long to wind up at Flemington last time when a narrow second to Mr Mozart. The queries are how well is he truly going, and second, lone run racing clockwise came in the Slipper where he raced drunk. But, no doubting the engine under the hood.
3 Captivant (Bet Now: $23.00) is ticking along beautifully. If it wasn’t for Anamoe, you would almost say he’s a near good thing. He’s flying and was excellent once again this prep when behind Anamoe in the Run To The Rose. Hard fit now, up to 1400m, he’ll run well en route to the Guineas.
Race 9. (16:45) Gloaming Stakes 1800m
I’m with 9 French Emperor (Bet Now: $5.50). David Payne trained three year old that has been impressive in two career outings. Somewhat unlucky third to Profondo on debut on the Kenso track. Then went to Goulburn where he looked a good thing on paper and despite doing a bit wrong, he was miles too good. He’s very progressive and looks an ideal Spring Champion candidate. Hard to beat.
6 Profondo (Bet Now: $5.00) is the blueblood with the big price tag. Can he live up to it on the track. Market took a set against him when debuting on the Kenso track and though he took a little while to get into his work, gee he was strong late and impressive. He’ll love the rise in trip and is hard to beat.
3 Arnaqueur (Bet Now: $10.00) is a bit loose upstairs, but I think he’s got the ability to win this and the Spring Champion. He looked drunk in the Dulcify but loved the way he picked up late when a close up fourth to Giannis. He’ll eat up the 1800m. Just needs to put it all together mentally.
Race 10. (17:25) Elite Sand & Soil (bm88) 1400m
Market will be the main guide but I hope it is with 5 Kiku (Bet Now: $5.50), a quality mare for Chris Waller that resumes. Really came of age in the Autumn, highlighted by a strong win in the Carbine Club at Randwick during The Championships. Three trials to get ready, so has had a good grounding and lands in a plum spot with J Mac steering.
13 Grande Rumore (Bet Now: $13.00) should love the rise to 1400m for Kris Lees. Former UK mare that has done little wrong since coming to Australia. She resumed over 1200m at Randwick three weeks ago and was good late from well back in the run behind Geist. Her best form in the UK was over further so the rise to 1400m suits and is hard to beat.
7 Ventura Ocean (Bet Now: $18.00) looks to be ticking along nicely for Kris Lees. Close up fourth here fresh behind Frosty Rocks before having a let up and running at Kembla when good late behind impressive winner Count De Rupee. Fitter and up in trip, he appeals for sure as a winning threat.
