Toowoomba will host their biggest race day on Saturday where it is Toowoomba Cup Day, supported by the time honoured Weetwood Handicap (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:38) Barrier Reef Pools (bm72) 1850m
2 Fortified (Bet Now: $1.75) is two weeks between runs for Chris Waller after a big win last time out at Doomben over the mile. He was a fair way back in the run but was trucking and once Jimmy Orman found clear air, he savaged the line and was too good. Fitter, up to 1800m, he’ll take beating.
4 Hostage Of War (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Brenton Andrew trained gelding that is racing really well at the moment. Just needs to put a win on the board. Unlucky not to win two back at Ipswich when a narrow second to Short Sara. Then went to Doomben two weeks ago when on speed throughout and tried hard, but was no match for Honorable Spirit. He’ll be around the mark and back in trip is a tick.
Staying at 1800m is the knock with 6 Youngblood (Bet Now: $4.50), but he’s got upside to come and is a stayer, so if this becomes a proper 1850m test, he comes right into play. Ran over this trip at Eagle Farm a few weeks ago and loomed to win, just running out of condition when a close up third to Aswaat. Small field helps his cause.
Race 2. (13:13) Toowoomba Plastics Hcp (c6) 1625m
1 Matowi (Bet Now: $5.50) hasn’t been far away of late for Chris Waller. Comes through the Doomben Mile when snagged back to neat last in the run and while he took a little while to get into his work, he surged hard when a close up third to Ballistic Boy. That form does read well for this.
5 Avowal (Bet Now: $4.20) has only 51kg on his back and that brings him right into play. Far from disgraced three weeks ago at Eagle Farm behind Ocean Treaty. He is on his home track, he should lead for fun from the draw, and right down in the weights, I think he’ll only run well despite the class/depth rise.
3 Foreign Territory (Bet Now: $4.80) should be suited here for Stuart Kendrick. He ran over the mile a few weeks back at Eagle Farm when on speed and fought on pretty well in defeat when a close up third to Adelase. He was second up there, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement.
Race 3. (13:48) Moore Trailers (bm70) 1000m
4 Lyrical Girl (Bet Now: $1.40) for me. Tony Gollan trained mare that is five weeks between runs since resuming at Doomben when on speed and did try hard, but was no match late for stablemate The Move, who won last Saturday, so the form reads well and this, overall, looks a massive drop in overall depth. She’ll do me.
3 Blue Odyssey (Bet Now: $16.00) looks suited here for Natalie McCall. Narrow second first up at the Sunny Coast before going to Doomben where he was far from disgraced I thought behind Full Nelson, who ran so well in defeat last Saturday. Back to 70 grade, he appeals big time.
10 Exceed Rock (Bet Now: $15.00) saves his best for his home track here at Toowoomba and is a definite winning chance. Lovely ride from Wendy Peel saw this gelding win here last time out, driving hard late and getting there after coming from a wide barrier. Harder here, but home track advantage is a big tick.
Race 4. (14:23) Pat O'shea Plate 1000m
This race is always a tough one to sort out with confidence. 4 Mishani Embrace (Bet Now: $3.50) gets the nod. Daughter of The Mission for Les Ross that showed sustained speed when bolting up in a Doomben trial last Tuesday, running solid time in the process. Drawn well, early speed, ideal recipe.
1 Mishani Warfare (Bet Now: $4.60) didn’t produce a standout trial for Les Ross, but one thing he did show was a response when ridden out, which is a positive sign more often than not. He’ll need to improve off that, but is in the right camp for these kind of races to do that. Watch the market.
6 Katysphere (Bet Now: $11.00) has home track advantage, which is a big tick for this race. Tony Webb trained filly that didn’t trial too bad here recently and looked to go about her business nicely. If she can hold a decent spot from the inside gate, she could be dangerous at a price.
Race 5. (14:58) Magic Millions City Guineas 1625m
2 Whitewater (Bet Now: $2.45) should be suited up in trip for David Vandyke. Got the maiden win out of the way two back at the Gold Coast before stepping up to 1350m at Doomben where he was a bit flat footed when the sprint went on, but picked up and was good late when second to Startantes. Off that, the mile should be fine and is hard to beat.
3 Red Wave (Bet Now: $4.60) has home track advantage, which should hold him in good stead. Three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Eagle Farm when on speed throughout and looked home when he booted clear, only to be nabbed late by Sergeant Silva. Hard to beat on his home track for an astute camp.
4 Keefy (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of All Too Hard for David Vandyke that comes here off the back of an all the way win over the mile at Ipswich where it was more or less a barrier trial. He had total control in front and was never getting beat with the cheap sectionals he was getting. Harder here, but has the Vandyke polish.
Race 6. (15:37) K&r Plumbing Supplies (bm80) 1300m
I think 12 Great Powers (Bet Now: $20.00) is worth an each way speck. Mark Currie trained mare that is a proven Saturday performer and with the claim for Wendy Peel, gee I think she’s well in and the rider is steering this track very nicely in recent weeks. Just needs to hold her spot from the draw and she’ll only run well.
5 Vinco (Bet Now: $3.50) is hot and cold but his best is certainly good enough to bounce back. Not much went his way at Eagle Farm last time out but overall, thought he had his chance behind Ocean Treaty. Gets Ryan Maloney steering and lobs into a gun spot from the draw. Hard to beat.
1 Fighting Teo (Bet Now: $41.00) is a Kevin Kemp trained gelding that is better suited over a bit further but is trained on the track and can pull out a decent run fresh. Good record on the home track and thought his recent trial was a lovely piece of work, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 7. (16:17) Toowoomba Cup 2000m
4 Champagne Aunty (Bet Now: $3.50) is on her home track and looks primed to run well. Had a month off prior to racing last Saturday at the Gold Coast in the Pink Ribbon Cup where it was more or less a barrier trial for her and she was just run off her legs when last. Better for that under the belt, off her prior efforts, she’ll take beating here.
2 Wapiti (Bet Now: $4.20) is hard fit now for Gary Duncan and should take beating. He was near the speed throughout two weeks ago in the Doomben Mile and loomed to win, just couldn’t finish it off when bloused late by Ballistic Boy. Knocking on the door to win one and gets his chance here.
5 Stardome (Bet Now: $18.00) is capable of figuring in the finish with something near his best. Ran at Doomben two weeks back where he was kept pretty safe in betting but he didn’t exactly fire and was quite plain I thought behind the in form London Banker. Has the Waller polish, so give him another chance.
Race 8. (17:00) Weetwood Hcp 1200m
This looks an obvious target race for 1 Soxagon (Bet Now: $4.20). Locally trained and second up in the feature sprint. Resumed over 1110m at Doomben where he was backed early but drifted late and that late fluc proved correct. Just looked in need of the run but still a good effort behind You Make Me Smile. Fitter, up to 1200m on the home track, he’ll take a power of beating.
6 You Make Me Smile (Bet Now: $7.50) has returned in excellent order and fitter, up to 1200m, he has to be hard to beat. Admittedly he had the A1 run in transit two weeks ago at Doomben but still had to take advantage of it and that he did, drawing clear late and was dominant. Has to be respected.
5 Tambo’s Mate (Bet Now: $9.00) has a good second up record and should be suited up in trip for Stuart Kendrick. Was first up a fortnight back at Doomben when wide and doing work in the run but stayed on and was a definite pass mark. If that hasn’t busted him, he’s a leading contender.
Race 9. (17:40) Eureka Stud (bm75) 1200m
7 Frozen In Time (Bet Now: $2.70) is racing in a purple patch for Kris Lees and will do me in the get out. Ran over 1200m at Doomben two weeks ago when ridden cold and it worked because she finished her race off with real purpose, just missing out on picking up Lasting Kiss. Similar run again, she’ll take beating.
This looks a plan for 9 Jetski (Bet Now: $5.00). Month between runs, freshened up for the big day on the home track and Blinkers are back on. Just got too far back last time but was okay late behind Catesby, a very much in form gelding. That form does read well for this and is a knockout chance.
12 Love Yers All (Bet Now: $16.00) is a speedy mare for Lindsay Hatch that is trained on the track. Resumed at this track/distance when given a lovely steer by Angela Jones from a tricky gate and was too good. Harder here with the gate, but has early toe and Kyle Wilson Taylor to steer, who isn’t afraid to push the button early.
