Bathurst Cup 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Bathurst Cup
Race 1. (13:15) Jeremy Booth Constuctions Mdn 1400m
11 Wandjina Spirit (Bet Now: $13.00) has done little wrong in two career outings for David Smith. Attempted to lead throughput at Dubbo last time and gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Nest In The Hills, beaten narrowly, but there was four lengths back to third. Lands in front and hard to run down.
6 Dee Pee Pee (Bet Now: $5.00) is the only one I could consider a threat to the favourite. Resumed over 1300m at Dubbo where the market said it was going to be a prep run but I liked the way she found the line when second to Are You Certain. Fitter, up to 1400m, she’ll run well again.
4 Set The Scene (Bet Now: $15.00) is one for exotics. Resumed on Dubbo Cup Day over 1300m and was never a factor given he got back in the run but worked to the line well enough I thought when third. Like him up to 1400m and is a sneaky knockout chance if they can settle closer in the run.
Race 2. (13:50) Agriwest Tulloch Cup Plate-C1 1800m
1 Sky Ace (Bet Now: $1.65) looks the winner. He has been excellent in two runs back from a spell, bolting up fresh at Nowra before going to Hawkesbury when second to Speedy Song after being near the speed, beaten narrowly. Staying at 1800m should be find, lands on speed and has the class edge on this lot.
3 Brave Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is suited up in trip for Brad Widdup. Just looked in need of the run fresh at Newcastle before going to Hawkesbury where he wasn’t suited by the sit/sprint but battled on okay late in the piece. Has upside compared to most and is proven at the distance.
7 Tornac (Bet Now: $9.00) is unknown at the trip but overall, this is a pretty thin race. He had a suck run behind the speed over the mile at Moruya last time and battled on pretty well in defeat when third to the very much in form Rent A Rock. Unknown at 1800m, but with luck from the gate, a soft run, he’ll be fine.
Race 3. (14:25) Mba Wealth Solutions Mdn Hcp 1200m
5 Loud (Bet Now: $2.80) is clearly the one to beat. Bjorn Baker trained filly that debuted in a hot maiden at Hawkesbury and didn’t really get the rub of the green in the straight and should have finished much closer behind Dashing Legend, a Stakes performer and won at Canterbury on Wednesday, so that clearly reads well and the depth is nowhere near as strong.
3 Glowing Gold (Bet Now: $1.55) has the Maher/Eustace polish so clearly hard to beat in a Bathurst maiden, but $1.50? Good lord. Her lone run came at Stakes level at Morphettville and was outclassed behind Aitch Two Oh. Trials have been solid, but with due respect, you’d be mad to take $1.50 about a horse ridden by Louise Day, who is out of form at the moment. Can win, but I’d want double the price before entertaining.
1 Jessandi (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Casino Prince mare for Kerry Parker that resumes. She is better suited over a touch further but didn’t mind the way she went about it on a few occasions in okay maidens. Quiet trial at Kembla to get ready for her return, has Reece Jones and does no work from the draw.
Race 4. (15:03) Mcintosh Mcphillamy & Co Mdn 1200m
7 Motion Legend (Bet Now: $2.25) is a Bjorn Baker trained filly that is several weeks between runs since debuting at Hawkesbury where she was near the speed throughout and battled away pretty well in defeat behind a handy one in Renosu. Tick over trial win was sharp and stable rarely misfire when coming to Bathurst.
2 Ruby Flyer (Bet Now: $3.50) hasn’t been too bad in two career outings for the Attard camp. Both runs have come at Kembla and each time he has got back and found the line well. Overall, this is a pretty thin maiden and with the scratchings, this race has fallen away after scratchings.
1 Tillman (Bet Now: $5.50) resumes here and is a knockout chance if he’s ready to go. He hasn’t raced since June 14 over 1700m at Scone when on speed and fighting on strongly when second to Reach Beyond. Resumes without a trial, but okay form around him and does now ork from the gate. Keep an eye on the market.
Race 5. (15:39) Complete Industrial&Welding-C1 1100m
4 Jacenza (Bet Now: $1.80) is the good thing on the program. Not sure he beat much on debut at Tamworth but gee the way he went through his gears in the straight was that of a good horse. Ran time, did it with something in hand and ran good late splits, which is a great sign for a first starter on debut. He should make it 2/2.
1 Ticket To Anywhere (Bet Now: $3.00) is a Brett Robb trained gelding that resumes. Having his first run for the stable after formerly being with Annabel Neasham, where he showed some promise, including at metro level. Sharp trial win to get ready, I’d watch the market with him.
11 Jackal (Bet Now: $91.00) is one I can include in wider multiples. He ran over 800m at Gilgandra in what was a scamper, as is the case with those kind of races, and he worked to the line well enough when third. Doubt he wins, but wouldn’t shock me if he snuck a first four spot.
Race 6. (16:13) Grainforce B Aspros Cup (Bm58) 1200m
4 Power Bank (Bet Now: $8.50) is racing in a purple patch and I think he can make it three wins on the bounce. Narrow but strong maiden win two back at Gilgandra before going to Forbes on Tuesday where he had a suck run behind the speed before coming into clear air and let down nicely to win well. Gets Reece Jones from a plum gate, he’ll do me.
2 Deshawn (Bet Now: $5.50) is in career best form and is hard to beat. Knuckled down strongly to win over 1100m here two back before going to Gilgandra when off the speed and worked home well but was no match late for Young Heart. Like him up to 1200m and is in nicely enough after the claim.
8 Petain (Bet Now: $8.00) is a veteran but gee he’s racing well. He’s won two on the bounce, winning two back at Gilgandra before an impressive win from off the speed on Dubbo Cup Day. Not sure he can make it three wins given there is depth to this line up, but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
Race 7. (16:48) Bathurst Cup 1800m
16 Martini Crusader (Bet Now: $4.60) rises sharply in grade, but this isn’t an overly strong Cup IMO. He attempted to lead throughout over 1850m at Newcastle last time and he gave a strong kick under Clark. Just had no answers late for the finale produced by Left Reeling, a quality mare. Gets weight relief, should roll forward and run very well.
3 Cognac (Bet Now: $3.40) is racing in really good form. Tough on speed win on the Kenso two back before going to the Dubbo Cup where he led and gave a sight but couldn’t finish the job in testing conditions when fifth to Casino Kid. Firmer footing, hopefully, and on speed, he’ll take beating.
11 Fanmalia (Bet Now: $9.50) deserves another look. He ran at the Warwick Farm midweeks last start when doing work from the wide gate and was never a factor behind Willinga Rufio, who led throughout and spanked them. If he can get luck from the draw here, he can run a much improved race.
Race 8. (17:25) The Panorama 1300m
1300m is ideal for 7 Don’tforgetmonica (Bet Now: $3.50) and if they overdo it in front, she’ll be the one launching at them late. She ran over 1280m at Muswellbrook last time out and just got held up/too far back before eventually getting clear and rocketing late behind Cecilia. Fresh legs but a sharp 900m trial win at Scone tells me she’ll be fine.
15 Participator (Bet Now: $4.50) should appreciate the rise in trip. He was too bad to be true in a Randwick Highway last time behind Opal Ridge, a Stakes performer, on what was a very testing track. The first up run was very good so have to forgive last start, and the tick over trial was strong.
6 Great Buy (Bet Now: $26.00) would love to find a firmer deck compared to what he’s copped his two runs back from a spell. Both runs have come on heavy ground and he’s been okay without threatening. He’s a dry track, but even a Soft6/7, I think he can run a much improved race.
