Race 1. (13:10) Vale John Adgemis Handicap 1100m
A bit of guessing involved with 4 Rainbiel (Bet Now: $2.60), but she is the filly with the solid Spring form and that does read best for a race like this. Really came of age when last in work, winning two on the bounce before starting even money favourite over 1400m here during the Carnival when a close up third. No trials of jumpouts, so fitness levels are unknown, but ability wise, she’s the best filly.
1 Miss Divine Em (Bet Now: $4.80) is hard to beat and does draw the inside gate and will do no work, so should get every chance to prove hard to beat against this lot. Last run came down the straight at Flemington and was solid in defeat behind Zesty Belle. Think she finds a winnable race here.
5 Aminatu (Bet Now: $7.50) comes here as a last start city winner, albeit a maiden at the Valley and they did walk home after flying early. Still, she had to chase the tearaway leader from the wide gate and did a good job to fend them off and win. Harder here, but has the right racing pattern.
Race 2. (13:45) Caulfield – Home of Outdoor Events Hcp 2000m
Can’t ignore the way 3 Hard’N’Tough (Bet Now: $4.40) is going this time in. Loved the way he toughed it out to win last time out at Sandown when near the speed and kicking on strongly to win and win well, a deserving victory given how well she had run prior. Lands near the speed here and gets in well after the claim.
7 Takumi (Bet Now: $4.20) is an Aaron Purcell trained gelding that is flying. Impressive win two back at this track/distance before going to Flemington last Saturday when warming to the task late, but just ran out of room late behind Coolth. Back to Caulfield and John Allen back on, he’s likeable.
10 Ridgewood Drive (Bet Now: $8.00) is the knockout hope. Reckon the Freedman camp has him going really well. Two runs back from a spell have caught the eye, the latest a closing fifth to Tycoon Bec after getting a mile back in the run. If he can settle closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous here.
Race 3. (14:20) Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) 1000m
I’ve been impressed by the way 3 Gulf Of Suez (Bet Now: $5.00) has gone about in both career runs, winning each time with some good placement by sending him to Morphettville. Not sure he has beaten much but he was dominant in both wins. Tick over jumpout was good, should land near the speed and prove hard to beat.
4 Extreme Warrior (Bet Now: $5.00) looks an ideal Blue Diamond candidate, so not sure 1000m here will suit him, but he does have class and will be strong at the end. First run came at this track/distance in the Spring in the Debutant when a somewhat unlucky second to Fake Love, getting held up for a few strides at a vital stage. Jumpouts have been sharp and looks a leading contender.
5 Marine One (Bet Now: $17.00) has the price tag so there will be expectations on him here. Debuted during Cup Week in the Maribyrnong Plate when near the speed and fighting on pretty well when third to Finance Tycoon. Jumpout was solid enough and interesting that stable finds Olly to steer.
Race 4. (14:55) Blue Diamond Preview (F) 1000m
$2.20/thereabouts is short enough for 2 Frost Flowers (Bet Now: $2.20), but you have to believe what you saw when she debuted at Flemington. The change up speed, sustained speed, was what was impressive when she won. Rated through the roof relative to the meeting and if she produces that effort on a bending track, she wins.
I doubt 1 Dosh (Bet Now: $3.80) can win the Blue Diamond because she does look a short course horse. Did a bit wrong and fell in to win on debut during Cup Week at Flemington. Looked sharp in a recent jumpout and I think if she is to win this prep, it will either be this or the Prelude.
The time didn’t back up the eye with the debut win of 3 Saasmit (Bet Now: $12.00), but sometimes you just have to trust your eye. She spanked them at Murray Bridge, sitting off the speed before Jess Eaton clicked her up and she put a gap on them. I think she can measure up to this lot.
Race 5. (15:30) The Mary Bell 1100m
This is a really good race for the females. The safe option looks to be 6 La Mexicana (Bet Now: $2.25), who resumes for the Freedman camp. Hasn’t raced since the Twilight Glow at Sandown when sitting near a good speed and was run down late by Hindaam. Think she’s better suited over a sprint trip and liked the Flemington jumpout. Maps to stalk the speed and be hard to hold out late.
4 Miss Albania (Bet Now: $2.80) is heading in the right direction and I think she can continue her winning ways. There was a lot of quality about her win at Caulfield a few weeks ago. Led throughout from the wide gate under Froggy and she just didn’t give her rivals a look in. She was dominant and has more to come.
Giving enormous respect to 2 Can’tforgetyou (Bet Now: $14.00). Comes through a Murray Bridge race, but it was the highest rating race of the meeting, and comfortably. Wide no cover but she showed electric change up speed when clicked up and she was dominant in very fast time. Definite winning chance.
Race 6. (16:05) John Dillon Stakes 1400m
This looks a real target race for 4 Morvada (Bet Now: $5.00), resuming for Peter Jolly. I say target because normally he has one trial to get ready for a prep, but this time around, he has had two sharp jumpouts at Morphettville to prepare. Draws wide, but should lead these for fun and we know that once he finds the front, he’s a hard horse to get past.
6 Viral (Bet Now: $3.50) is racing so well at the moment for Danny O’Brien and is a leading contender. Maps to get a perfect sit off the speed and is down in the weights. Liked the way he knuckled down to win last start at Flemington, wearing down a very game Rule The World. Gets a similar run this time around and is hard to beat.
3 Guizot (Bet Now: $15.00) saves his best for Caulfield and I dare he will have eyes on the Carlyon Cup over the mile here in a couple of weeks, but he goes in all multiples. Sneaky good run from him in the Chester Manifold when a close up fourth to Never Again. If he can hold a forward spot from the gate, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 7. (16:40) W.J. Adam Stakes 1000m
Fascinating runner is 9 All Banter (Bet Now: $2.70) for the Jolly camp. Talented filly who has been kept on ice since being heavily backed and duly bolting up at the Valley back on November 28. This is a really good test for her, but she looks above average, down in the weights and has a turn of foot.
3 Shamino (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding that comes here with fresh legs. Impressive winner of the Doveton at Sandown before going to Flemington where he was run off his legs but far from disgraced in defeat behind Fabergino, who is a real speed demon and a straight track specialist. Sits off a fast speed here and will launch late.
2 Bons Away (Bet Now: $15.00) can be dangerous here at odds. Resumed in the Kensington Stakes where he was similar to Shamino. Fabergino just took away his sprint but was still sound in defeat behind the speedy WA mare. Better suited here I feel and can certainly take this out without surprising.
Race 8. (17:15) Neds Same Race Multi Hcp 1400m
Few question marks on a few of these, so going for some value in the get out in the shape of 12 Johnny Whitesox (Bet Now: $35.00). Thought he had jumped out very well prior to resuming at the Valley where he was badly held up at a vital stage but once he got clear, thought his finale was more than sound. Should get three wide cover and be strong at the end.
1 Heart Of Puissance (Bet Now: $4.50) does look the best horse in the race and great to see him back. Hasn’t raced since the All Star Mile last year where he ran last, which for the most part was to be expected, but did pull up lame as well post race. Loved his Terang jumpout and really, the form around him is superior to this lot. If the market likes him, jump on.
5 Regardsmaree (Bet Now: $4.00) looks hard to beat for the in form Nick Ryan camp. Few weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when back, wide with cover, before blending in on the turn and looming large to win, looked home but was nabbed late by Rule The World. He’ll get good cover and be strong at the end.
