Bendigo Cup 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Bendigo Cup
Race 1. (12:30) Brb Electrical Mdn Plate 1100m
Tricky maiden to start the meeting. Landed with 3 Tasman Park (Bet Now: $3.60) for Mike Moroney. Son of Ocean Park that is on debut off the back of a couple of Flemington jumpouts, the latest seeing him win after getting the box seat sit and showing nice change up speed. Stable can produce a handy one for a debut, and he finds a winnable race.
7 Futuristic (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Zoustar colt on debut for the Price/Kent camp. He’s been given a solid grounding for start one, with a prep earlier in the year without a run. Spelled and has had two jumpouts this time in for the debut and Blinkers on signals some level of intent. Watch the market.
It’s rare you don’t see Shane Fliedner set one up for his hometown Cup Day and he has 11 Gentle Whisper (Bet Now: $10.00) on debut. Her jumpout work has been nothing to jump up and down about, but she is being kept safe in the market, which I find interesting, whereas the stbalemate is friendless, so watch the market.
Race 2. (13:00) Bet365 (Bm64) 1300m
Back miles in grade/depth and back in trip are two big ticks for 9 Street Delight (Bet Now: $4.40). Symon Wilde trained filly that was potentially heading down the Thousand Guineas path but didn’t quite measure up in the Edward Manifold so those plans were aborted. Fresh legs into this, she handles wet ground and I think will be one of the strongest late.
7 Veloce Carro (Bet Now: $3.70) is a son of Nicconi for the Maher/Eustace camp that will be on speed and had to run down. That was the case at Cranbourne last time where he was there to be run down but found plenty under Teo to score. First up run was good on the Synthetic at Ballarat so think he’s returned well and has found a winnable race here.
5 Unseen Ruler (Bet Now: $9.50) is a three year old with okay talent I feel. He was kept quite safe in betting when debuting at Hamilton and in what became survival of the fittest, he was strongest late and was impressive in winning. Clearly harder here, but beware the unbeaten horse.
Race 3. (13:35) No Fuss Event Hire (Bm64) 2400m
3 Outback Jack (Bet Now: $2.25) is racing really well for Lindsey Smith. He just can’t crack it for a win. On the seven day back up after racing last Wednesday at Geelong where he seemingly had every chance but battled on well enough when third to Captain Envious. On form, he’s the one, clearly…just finding it hard to win.
6 Redsong (Bet Now: $5.00) has solid enough form around him to command respect. He was good from the back behind Port Philip at Flemington two back before going to 3000m at The Valley where the track pattern was against and he couldn’t come on behind Noonday Jack but stayed on and was a definite pass mark. Back to this level, he’s hard to beat.
8 Donatrice (Bet Now: $7.00) would be near top pick if this track was firm. She’s flying for Archie Alexander but the bog track is a concern. She found a good track at Echuca last time and the end result was a dominant win over 2100m. Harder here, but a horse in form and the trip should be fine.
Race 4. (14:10) Bendigo District Rsl (Bm78) 1100m
I’ll bank on a bog track ensuring that 6 Deevine (Bet Now: $8.50) measures up. Ryan Balfour trained mare that is a Saturday class horse when right and I think she’s racing well. Forgive her run at Morphettville just over two weeks ago when five wide for the trip and did make up some headway without threatening behind the in form Bamyan Buddha. She swimgs, hard fit, down in the weights…happy to be in her corner.
4 Neverstandingstill (Bet Now: $2.05) is 2/2 at Bendigo so I think she can bounce back. Thrown in the deep end last time in the Alinghi where she was wide for the trip and just felt the pinch late behind A Very Fine Red. She was a month between runs, so you’d think there is upside to come, and she swims.
1 Maritana (Bet Now: $11.00) commands respect. He has been kept on ice since resuming at The Valley on Moir night and I actually thought he was quite good against the pattern behind impressive winner Zethus. Good second up record and doesn’t mind getting his toe in. Definite winning chance.
Race 5. (14:45) Catanach's Jewellers (Bm64) 1100m
3 El Salto (Bet Now: $5.50) has been kept on ice for Cup Day here, having not raced since October 1 on the Parks track at Morphettville where he should have clearly won but had no luck in the straight when bolting for a clear path. Brent Stanley trains, son Jett steers, home deck, loves wet ground, in form…all points to him.
11 Obfuscation (Bet Now: $2.10) is a talented animal for Simon Zahra that appeals. He was a short priced favourite at Cranbourne last time and on the turn, he looked the winner, but he couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Prowling, who won at Sale on Sunday, so the form reads well, he maps well and should be find on wet ground.
10 Duke Of Neworleans (Bet Now: $13.00) was a promising horse earlier in his career. Form has somewhat tapered off now, but perhaps with a new stable, he can find his best. Resumed in a weak race at Murtoa and made a mess of them from the front, leading throughout and giving nothing else a look in. Hard to beat if he can produce something similar.
Race 6. (15:20) Bendigo Locksmiths (Bm70) 1300m
8 Dreams And Schemes (Bet Now: $14.00) on top for me. This gelding for Nigel Blackiston has talent and Blinkers back on, there is intent. He ran over 1200m at The Valley last time out where he got back to near last in the run and was good late without threatening behind Elteecee. He won’t mind give in the track, he’ll be strong late and this isn’t an overly strong race.
12 Secret Glamour (Bet Now: $2.90) is a handy mare for the Maher/Eustace camp that resumes. She hasn’t raced since June 18 at Flemington when seemingly producing an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind Texas Tea. She can sprint well fresh and her jumpout work has been encouraging.
2 Court Deep (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Maher/Eusatce trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Australia Day when producing an end of prep run in the Hanging Rock Cup behind Strategic Phil, a Saturday metro winner. He sprints well fresh, handles wet ground and his jumpout work suggests he’s going well enough to sprint nicely fresh.
Race 7. (16:00) Bendigo Cup 2400m
6 Nobel Heights (Bet Now: $7.00) is the one on the up and stable is starting to find form. Talented animal for Matt Cumani that is second up. He resumed at Caulfield on Thousand Guineas Day and worked to the line pretty well without threatening behind a progressive animal, White Marlin. Love him up to 2400m, he’s got enormous upside and I think the wet track will be fine.
Really good test here for 7 Port Philip (Bet Now: $3.00) but it’s hard to knock the way Julius Sandhu has him going at the moment. He has won his past four, the latest coming at Caulfield on Thousand Guineas Day over 2400m where he looked a beaten horse but he found under pressure and got the win, just. He’s hard fit, in form, and will be standing if this becomes survival of the fittest.
Last time 4 Dadoozdart (Bet Now: $17.00) won, Moses was reading out the Ten Commandments. But, that said, I think he has come back in pretty good order. Somewhat luckless fresh behind Finepoint at Rosehill, not getting much room to move. He then went to the Coongy and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Gunstock. He loves getting his feet wet and up to 2400m looks ideal.
Race 8. (16:40) Big Al's Water (Bm70) 1600m
3 Zoumon (Bet Now: $3.40) is better suited over much further, but he looks to be flying. He resumes for the GaiBott camp, having not raced since the Andrew Ramsden when down the track and producing an end of prep run behind Point Nepean. He can run well fresh and his jumpout work has been impressive. He’s ready to go.
4 Shultzy (Bet Now: $5.50) has come back in good order and appeals big time here. He attacked the line with purpose to win at Geelong two back. He then went to The Valley when chasing from a fair way out and battled on well behind the in form Keats. Back to the mile is fine, he’s hard fit and will be strong late.
If this track is bottomless, 1 Falls (Bet Now: $3.80) comes right into play. He’s on the seven day back up after racing last Wednesday at Geelong where he got back to near last in the run and worked home really well without threatening behind Maximus Prime. Heavy track, he’s hard to beat.
Race 9. (17:20) Filkel (Bm78) 1400m
11 Toregene (Bet Now: $2.30) will do me in the get out. Matty Williams trained mare that resumed at Cranbourne where she had the A1 run in transit before being presented clear air and in a driving go, finished best. Interesting the Blinkers are off and the Winkers go on, but she’s got the upside/progression and an ideal map once again.
5 Real Sensation (Bet Now: $7.50) is such a frustrating horse to follow, but he might be getting back to somewhere near his best. Resumed at Caulfield on Thousand Guineas Day and sprouted wings late in a slog to get the win in the last stride. If he can use the inside gate to advantage, he’ll take beating.
14 Red Cracker (Bet Now: $101.00) lacks the class, but has a liking for Bendigo and swims. He ran on the Ballarat Synthetic last start where he was last in the small field and worked to the line quite well late when third. I doubt he has the quality to win, but he could pinch a first four spot.
