26/12/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, ATA Stakes day

The Ascot Summer Carnival continues on Saturday where it is ATA Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

Fitter and up to 1200m I do like for 1 Prized Nemesis (Bet Now: $5.00). Resumed over 1100m at Bunbury where he got back to near last in the run but loved the way he finished his race off to run second. Gets an ideal set up second up here and I just hope the inside gate is used to advantage. If so, he will take some beating.

7 Springsure Lad (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Bruce Watkins trained son of Blackfriars that is on debut. He has had several trials to get ready for start one and each time he has looked the part and gone about his business quite nicely. Keen to see how he goes at start one in town.

1500m back to 1200m for 3 Keep It Hush (Bet Now: $19.00) is interesting but he’s a knockout chance at odds. Daniel O’Connor trained gelding that ran over 1500m last Wednesday where he was just behind the speed and battled away well without really threatening. Not sure I could back him to win but is one for multiples.

10 Hot Mix (Bet Now: $3.00) does look a decent enough prospect for Martin Allan and confident she can measure up to Saturday grade. Ran here over 1200m last Wednesday where sat back off what looked a solid tempo before building the revs on the turn and she put them away late to win like a good horse. Off that, 1400m here should be no issue and rates highly.

3 La Farola (Bet Now: $4.00) has the Michael Lane polish and stable finds Pike to steer, so she has a bit going for her. Resumed at Bunbury where she tried hard from near the speed, but first up, condition just gave out and had to settle for a third. Better for that run, should land near the front and give a sight. Interesting to see what the market does with her.

I’ve got a bit of time for 2 Chilli Is Hot (Bet Now: $6.50). Won her first two starts before being spelled. Resumed over 1200m here and I think you could easily make a case to say she should have won. Just had no luck in the straight when seemingly full of running. Love her up to 1400m and with better luck this time around, she can win.

11 Wakan Tanka (Bet Now: $7.00) doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates but Neville Parnham has him going very well and I think is hard to beat here. Attempted to lead throughout at this track/distance two weeks ago and gave a good kick. Just couldn’t finish it off when second to Distant Trilogy. Tricky draw, but if he can get to the front and get a cheap furlong, he will take some running down.

7 Scooter’s Machine (Bet Now: $7.50) steps up to 1400m after racing over 1200m here a fortnight ago. Led at a decent clip and it was a day where being on speed was no disadvantage so that helped a bit but the run was still full of merit. Interesting to see how he goes up to 1400m.

3 Speedy Miss (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Team Pearce trained mare that is third up here and I think can run a positive race at odds. Ran at Bunbury last time out and was never really a winning threat, but liked the way she finished her race off behind Peppijack. Backed with confidence third up last prep at Belmont and just missed, so think she’s a winning threat here for sure.

2 Don’t Fuss (Bet Now: $7.00) looks hard to beat for the Pearce camp, especially back up to 1200m. Ran over 1000m here two weeks ago and he was a real eye catcher from the back in an on pace dominated affair won by Ziebell. Pike remains on and if he can sit closer in the run from the good draw, he will take some beating.

8 Son Of A God (Bet Now: $2.00) is a Simon Miller trained four year old that resumes. Hasn’t raced since July 11 at Belmont when leading and fighting on strongly when third to Windstorm, and we know how well that horse ran during the Melbourne Spring. Loved his recent trial win and is 2/2 at Ascot, so interesting to see what the market does.

4 Speeding Comet (Bet Now: $35.00) is suited up to 1200m for Simon Miller. Resumed over 1100m here a few weeks back here when doing work from the wide gate to get on speed and he tried hard, but in a sit/sprint, he just wasn’t suited and be forgiving of the run behind Ziebell. Like him up in trip and is always a knockout threat in these kind of races.

Reckon 4 Mr Kunafa (Bet Now: $9.00) is a great each way gamble provided he is double figures. Was 1200m to 1600m when racing here two weeks ago. Got back to near last in the run and was never really a winning threat but did make up ground and was good late. Maps to stalk the leader and if that eventuates, gee I think he will take some beating.

2 Kelly’s Callisto (Bet Now: $3.00) has been up a little while for Adam Durrant but is holding his form really well. Attempted to lead throughout at this track/distance two weeks back and gave a really good kick from the front. Just had no answers for the finale peoeuddd by Phoneme. Think that form is good enough to go close here.

7 Glamour Packed (Bet Now: $5.50) is racing as if the mile will be okay. Last few runs have come over 1400m where she the rub of the green hasn’t gone her way but has run well regardless. Should get a lovely economical run from the draw and several runs ago was a good winner at this track/distance.

1 Mexi Cola (Bet Now: $10.00) rises in depth/grade for Lindsey Smith but it was hard to ignore his first up win at Northam. Sat wide with cover before peeling wider and unleashing a powerful finale to score a sharp win. He’s got upside to come and despite a tricky gate will take a power of beating.

5 No Surrender (Bet Now: $8.50) is a three year old taking on older horses but is hard fit and racing well. Ran here last Wednesday when near the speed and fighting on strongly. Just got caught late in the final couple of strides. Racing well and should be around the mark in a competitive race.

9 Wee Ripper (Bet Now: $34.00) has a strong third up record and can run a much improved race here at odds. He comes through the Grandstand Cup at Pinjarra where he got back to near last in the run and failed to fire a shot in a disappointing effort. The good third up record keeps him in the mix at odds.

9 Sassy Trader (Bet Now: $6.50) is a three year old taking on the older horses but looks to map super and do feel that up to 1200m is a big tick for him. Several weeks between runs since racing over 1000m here when again tardy away and finding the line nicely. If he can jump clean and settle closer in the run, he will take some beating.

2 Lipstick Flickers (Bet Now: $3.80) is a talented mare for the Harvey camp that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since April 18 at this track/distance when a game second to the then in form Black Ducati. Been a while since then but liked the way she has trialled to get ready. Leading contender.

Good little test here for 3 Bee Quick (Bet Now: $6.00) but Dion Luciani has her going great guns at the moment, largely thanks to good placement. Resumed with a dominant win at Mount Barker before going to Pinjarra last Thursday where she led throughout and was too good. Gets Rawiller to steer, replacing Carleen Hefel, but maps to get a good run on speed and give a bold sight.

Want to give 6 Money Maher (Bet Now: $5.00) another chance. He comes through the Towtown Stakes from two weeks ago where he seemed to get a decent run just behind the speed but when it came to getting clear, it just didn’t eventuate and he went around like it was a barrier trial. Better luck this time around and he can win.

2 Neufbosc (Bet Now: $2.30) is one of the main contenders for the Perth Cup and this should top him off nicely for next week. Sat back in the Towtown Cup before peeling wider and finishing off strongly when second to Trap For Fools. That form does read quite well for a race like this, so hard to beat.

1 Taxagano (Bet Now: $8.50) is one that I could entertain for wider multiples. He ran last Saturday in the Ted Van Heemst when on speed, doing work and just lacked the quality to go with them late. Better suited here I feel and if he can land near the front and get a cheap run, he will run a much improved race.

The soft gate and claim is just leaning me the way of 1 Mum’s My Hero (Bet Now: $6.00), who has done a good job since joining the Harvey camp. Ran over 1100m here three weeks ago and worked home well from off the speed when third to Ziebell. If he can sit closer in the run from the good draw, back to his pet trip, think he’ll take some beating.

4 Shinju (Bet Now: $8.00) is getting towards last chance territory. Team Gangemi trained gelding who has promised a fair bit since coming to WA but as a whole, he has been quite disappointing. Ran over 1100m here last time out and was just fair in defeat behind Ziebell in an on pace dominated affair. Fitter, back to 1000m…last chance for me.

2 Night Voyage (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Martin Allan trained veteran that resumes. This eight year old hasn’t raced since October 3 during the Kalgoorlie Carnival where he got back in the run and failed to come on in the small field. That was on Soft ground and he seems a horse much better horse on top of the ground, so keen to see how he goes.

NEXT BEST: Race Nine Number 1 Mum’s My Hero

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 4 Mr Kunafa
