Race One (13:00) : Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa Maiden Plate 1400m Form Guide

Back Me: More Rewarding (Best Odds: $7.00) was excellent first up at Seymour, sitting four wide with no cover and only going down by just over a length by a real smart type in Choose. Plenty to like about that run, and given he has less convictions than most here, I’ll put him on top.
Big Danger: The Yowie (Best Odds: $5.50) has had many, many chances to break his maiden status, but in saying that, he has contested much better races than this. Was asked to do too much work at the Valley last time out, so the bigger track and extra distance should suit.
Roughie: Northern Cath (Best Odds: $4.40) was a well backed favourite at the Valley a couple of weeks back, and didn’t appear suited inside runners when a well held third to Set To Skelter. The wide barrier I think will assist her chances, which should ensure she gets a clear run and is outside horses.

Race Two (13:35) : Betty McDowell Elsternwick Maiden Plate 1200m Form Guide

Back Me: Reldas was an alarming drifter in betting first up at the Valley, yet he was enormous, making a searching run 600m from home and attempting to circle the field. Looked as if he was going to win 200m out, but fitness and the hard run gave way. Provided he has taken no harm from that gut buster, he’ll be awfully hard to beat here.
Big Danger: Saker finished third in the Seymour race More Rewarding finished second. This bloke had cover in the run and worked home really nicely late. Stays at the 1200m and draws much better. Serious threat.
Roughie: Duelling Machine ran twice during the Winter in maiden company and wasn’t too bad in each run. He has since been gelded and didn’t look too bad at the Cranbourne trials a couple of weeks in a trial which has stood up on race day.

Race Three (14:10) : Alannah Hill Plate (78) 1400m Form Guide

Back Me: It’s been a while since Manhattan Maid (Best Odds: $4.40) has greeted the judge, but if ever she is going to get another win on the board, this is surely it. Was really good late at Morphettville Parks, coming from well back to get third against the bias, which was in favour of on pace runners. Very weak race here, Rawiller rides, good gate…surely just wins.
Big Danger: Magic Curves (Best Odds: $6.00) put together two good wins at Bairnsdale before running an even second of four to the flying Cult Of Isis at Ararat before doing work and sticking on well at Seymour. She strikes a very winnable race, and she is rock hard fit.
Roughie: Godspiel (Best Odds: $5.00) was first up from a spell when making up really good ground late over 1000m at Tatura behind The Bounty Queen. Better suited over a mile and beyond, but that run suggests she has come back really well and could surprise.

Race Four (14:45) : Say It With Flowers Handicap 1300m Form Guide

Back Me: Going with Cautious, who hasn’t been seen since running a game third to Nayeli at Caulfield in the Chairmans Stakes. That form, along with a drop back in class, should see this filly prove very hard to beat.
Big Danger: Fontein Ruby was slightly disappointing behind Eloping in the Blue Diamond Preview, then went to Mornington for the Inglis and finished third, beaten by two above average types in Gold Force and Modoc. She’ll also appreciate the drop back in class and does have extra race experience on her side.
Roughie: Armani Prince was a touch unlucky on debut at Werribee behind Red Letter Day where he sat near the tail of the field, hugged the fence and got right up behind the leaders, only to then get in a nasty pocket and not get out at any stage in the straight. He could be one to throw in exotics.

Race Five (15:20) : Champagne Pommery Handicap (70) 1200m Form Guide

Back Me: Chelsea Hotel (Best Odds: $4.60) for me here. Excellent first up win on her home track at Canberra, then failed in two runs in Sydney. Comes to Melbourne now, and the stable have an excellent record when bringing them to Victoria. The racing pattern last week on the Hillside track suited on pace runners, and it’ll be interesting to see if it applies to Lakeside, because if it does, then this girl is going to be very hard to run down.
Big Danger: Nella Fantasia (Best Odds: $3.50) tried very hard on Mornington Cup Day when a fighting second to Kuaima. She was caught wide with no cover yet stuck on really strongly in the straight despite being well held by the winner. Will get a much better run from the inside gate and can win this.
Roughie: Former Anthony Cummings galloper Clinking (Best Odds: $7.50) made his debut for Kane Harris at Sale and bolted in after being well backed late in betting. Then they contested a hot sprint race on Pakenham Cup Day where the leaders had a picnic in front and sprinted late. The weight rise is a concern, as is the firm track, but he has a touch of class on his side.

Race Six (16:00) : Sportingbet Best Tote Plus 5% Handicap (64) 1200m Form Guide

Back Me: Several of our selections have revolved around the debut win of Choose (Best Odds: $8.50) at Seymour, so she has to go on top here given she was so dominant in that race, sitting wide with no cover yet ambling up in the straight and bolting clear late to win with the ears pricked. Confident she can handle the rise to city company.
Big Danger: Anyways Rosie (Best Odds: $9.00) sat wide with no cover on debut on Pakenham Cup Day yet glided to the lead on the turn and charged away to win like a horse capable of being competitive in town. Barrier is not good, but she did prove last start she can do work and win.
Roughie: Keen to see how Every Faith (Best Odds: $6.00) goes here. First up after running a gallant fifth in the Oaks to Kirramosa. Comes here off the back of a really good trial effort at Cranbourne recently, and although her best will be seen over further, she has the class and ability to win fresh.

Race Seven (16:40) : Schweppes Handicap (70) 1200m Form Guide

Back Me: Good chance for The Bowler (Best Odds: $5.00) to return to the winners list. Ran a cracker at the Gold Coast when fifth to Sweet Idea in the Magic Millions Guineas, then went to Mornington on their Cup Day and bumped into the flying Cult Of Isis. It’s been a while since he has won, but he seems more genuine now and should improve off that Mornington run given it was a month between it and the Magic Millions.
Big Danger: Turquoise King (Best Odds: $2.20) was highly impressive in his first start as a gelding when sweeping past his rivals at Caulfield to win in good time. He has always shown talent, but now that he has been gelded, he has gone to a new level, a level which could see him in stakes company before too long.
Roughie: Mighty Like (Best Odds: $15.00) was one of the runs of the program on Mornington Cup Day, sitting back then coming very wide so early from home and sticking on so well when third to Cult Of Isis. He should get a much more economical run here and can definitely improve.

Race Eight (17:20) : TVN Handicap (70) 1500m Form Guide

Back Me: Bernie Of Bablyon (Best Odds: $6.50) was really good when resuming off a freshen up when second to Final Jest, beaten a length. He’ll only benefit from that outing, up in trip, bigger surroundings, hard to beat.
Big Danger: Urban Bourbon (Best Odds: $9.00) was a dead heat debut winner at Wangaratta, then went to Caulfield and was very good late when third to Turquoise King. He has plenty of upside left and will appreciate the extra 100m and a more positive ride from the good draw.
Roughie: Handy stayer Sacred Dream (Best Odds: $15.00) has steadily closed off her races quite nicely at her past two outings, both over unsuitable trips. She is better suited at 2000m and beyond, but is racing well enough to be a factor here.
