SA metro racing returns to Murray Bridge this Saturday with nine races set down. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out eight metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (11:27) Elders Livestock & Wool (Bm70) 1200m
9 Star Espresso (Bet Now: $12.00) looks the map horse from the inside gate. Drew wide when resuming a fortnight back but loved the way she finished her race off behind Queman. From the better gate, she can settle much closer in the run and prove very hard to hold out at the end.
3 Queman (Bet Now: $4.20) is putting together a tidy little record for Shane Oxlade. Had the suck run behind the speed two weeks ago but despite that, he still had to take advantage and that he did, drawing clear late to win impressively against a line up with depth. Hard to beat once again, especially back up to 1200m.
7 Lakehurst (Bet Now: $15.00) had been knocking on the door to break the maiden for some time and it finally came at Gawler last start, leading throughout in a dominant display. Not sure he beat a great deal but it’s a confidence boost and down in the weights, he’ll give a sight.
Race 2. (12:02) Iron Gate Mdn Plate 1000m
10 More Reward (Bet Now: $6.50) on top. I’m always on guard with first starters coming off big trial/jumpout wins, whether the margin was false/flattering. But, she did look to truck and move beautifully on speed in a jumpout here on the Synthetic and went through her gears like a nice horse. I think she wins if she runs up to the jumpout.
Giving serious respect to 8 Jay Jay Flyer (Bet Now: $4.20) on debut for Team McEvoy. Hasn’t been seen at the trials/jumpouts in around a month, so that’s the query, but that jumpout came at Ballarat on the Synthetic and she moved quite well in leading throughout. Stable fires at this track and with an inside gate, she’s a key threat.
7 I’m Over Dancing (Bet Now: $8.00) is an Alex Rae trained filly on debut. She’s had several jumpouts to get ready for start one, the latest being an on speed win over 675m. I doubt she beat much, but moved well enough to my eye and overall, I don’t think this is a strong 2YO race.
Race 3. (12:37) Festival Hire Mdn Plate 1200m
7 Starts With Hello (Bet Now: $2.10) picks himself I feel. Team Jolly trained gelding that debuted over 1000m here and was the run of the meeting, closing off hard late when second to Gloved, producing some of the best late splits of the entire meeting. Like him up to 1200m and if the inside gate can be used to advantage, he’ll take beating.
12 Fonsalette (Bet Now: $4.40) has home track advantage and solid form if she brings anything near her best. Jury is somewhat out on her given the early wraps, but she was good in defeat last start behind the in form Queman in a maiden back in late April. Break between runs, on her home track, key threat.
13 Legless Lady (Bet Now: $7.00) is an interesting runner. Macdonald/Gluyas trained filly that resumes after just one run in the Spring, which followed a couple of encouraging runs as a juvenile in tidy races. The grounding is there to suggest she’ll run well fresh with three jumpouts under the belt, so fitness won’t be an issue. Watch the market.
Race 4. (13:12) Carlton Draught Mdn Plate 1200m
12 Lady De Lune (Bet Now: $14.00) on top in a tricky maiden contest. Daughter of Puissance De Lune that debuts for local trainer Sam Burford. This filly looked to move very well in a jumpout on the Synthetic here when third under a hold. 1000m, on breeding, is on the short side, but I reckon she’ll be strong late.
7 Vain Fox (Bet Now: $3.60) will jump on the bunny and run a bold race. Resumed over 1200m at Ballarat on testing ground and just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth. Firmer footing and back to 1000m, for a stable who has a good strike rate when coming to SA, he’s a key threat.
11 Go Artie (Bet Now: $71.00) is a knockout hope, purely for the reason that he’s a two year old taking on the older horses and this time of the year, that form is gold. Debuted at this track/distance and was a tad on the plain side. Better for the run under the belt, watch the market with him.
Race 5. (13:47) Mulch N More (Bm80) 2500m
2 Irish Butterfly (Bet Now: $2.15) surely puts this lot away. He ran over 2400m at Sandown last time out and tried as hard as ever, but was clearly no match late for Sound Of Cannons, but gapped the rest. That form surely has to read well for what looks a very, very ordinary staying contest.
7 Arrowtown Girl (Bet Now: $5.00) looks the only real threat. Ran over 2255m at Geelong last start and stayed on strongly, just missing out on the win when second to Water Into Wine. Was 1600m to 2255m that afternoon so with that run under the belt, I think she appeals for sure.
5 Capricorn Ridge (Bet Now: $8.50) is unknown at 2500m but he has home track advantage and is racing in solid form. Ran two weeks ago in the Provincial Final over 1800m when wide throughout and battled away okay in defeat behind Morty. 2500m is a query, but if he sees it out okay, he has the speed in the legs to be effective.
Race 6. (14:22) Mckechnie Concreting (Bm68) 1000m
2 Howl (Bet Now: $3.60) looks like he will love the set up of the Murray Bridge 1000m. Can see him getting back, with cover, a drag into the race and launch late. Clear forgive last time out in the Sprint Final behind Rushaway Lad, having no luck whether it was getting clear air or getting galloped on. Much better suited here and his best sees him win.
9 Sidearm (Bet Now: $11.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but is a horse loaded with talent. He was very good fresh against the pattern at Morphettville a few weeks ago, working home with real purpose late behind a quality filly in I Am Bene. Fitter, hard to beat if he can sit closer in the run.
14 My Ruby (Bet Now: $19.00) is knocking on the door to win for the Francis/Kent camp. Formerly with Kevin Corstens, this mare seems to be enjoying life in SA. Ran a fortnight back at Morphettville and was good late from off the speed when a close up third to surprise winner Sunny Green. She has got back in both runs this time in. She was able to sit on speed when trained by Corstens so if she can settle closer in the run here, she’ll take beating.
Race 7. (14:57) Northpoint Murraylands (Bm60) 1200m
4 Kolokar (Bet Now: $5.00) deserves another chance. Market liked him at a price when resuming on the Parks track two weeks back but he just found them a touch sharp over 1000m and really only got warm late in the piece behind Queman. Like him up in trip and bigger track suits.
5 Lianne (Bet Now: $7.00) is 2/2 at Murray Bridge and back to this track, and back a fair way in grade/depth, I’m in her corner. Ran over 1400m at Morphettville last start and for mine, seven furlongs sees her out, so forgive that effort behind Blood Sweat Tears. Back to 1200m, if she’s near her best, she takes beating.
15 Two Odd Sox (Bet Now: $41.00) saves his best for Murray Bridge and will be dangerous if he’s within range. Ran over 1050m at Morphettville three weeks back where he had no chance given the track pattern but was good late behind I Am Bene, who placed in the Proud Miss last Saturday, so that form clearly reads well.
Race 8. (15:37) Magic Millions (Bm68) 1800m
12 Rapid Raiser (Bet Now: $5.50) is flying for Jake Stephens and he can bounce back into the winners list. Strong winner over the mile here two back before going to this trip at Morphettville where he got back in the run but finished off with purpose late when third to Morty. Has a real liking for Murray Bridge so returning here, he’ll tale beating.
2 Thrill Kill (Bet Now: $5.00) is finding it hard to greet the judge first but despite that, he’s racing really well. Ran two weeks ago in the Provincial Final and I thought was given a 12/10 by John Allen. Looked all over a winner but was nabbed late by Morty in a close finish. Hard to beat I’d suggest, provided he gets an economical run.
Fitter and up to 1800m are two big ticks for 10 Wild Imagination (Bet Now: $5.50). Team Jolly trained mare that attempted to lead throughout in the Queen Of The South two weeks ago but just lacked the class to match it with them late. Back to this grade and a more patient steer, expect sharp improvement.
Race 9. (16:17) Premi-Air Refrigeration (Bm82) 1200m
15 Munster (Bet Now: $5.00) has home track advantage and as well as being in winning form, that’s enough for me to lean his way and butter up. He got the job done for us two weeks ago at Morphettville. The race was there to be won and I loved the way he dug in late to surge and get the job done. They’ve tried him at 1400m but IMO, 1200m is his sweet spot, so happy to be in his corner again.
4 Calypso Reign (Bet Now: $4.60) has come back in super order for David Jolly. Both runs this time in have come at Morphettville. He showed good change up speed to win fresh over 1100m before having a mini break and racing over 1200m where he got back and worked home nicely when second to Rushaway Lad.
Good record at Murray Bridge, he’ll take beating. 5 Extra Time (Bet Now: $8.00) is back on track for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. He was on trial for the Goodwood but after failing to measure up in lesser lead ups, he dropped back to benchmark grade, his latest run seeing him finish a narrow second to Munster. If he can hold that, or even build off it, he’s in the mix for sure.
Race 10. (16:55) Cox Electrical (Bm64) 1400m
15 Lacrima (Bet Now: $10.00) looks really well placed here for James Bull. She was big odds when racing in the Autumn Final a fortnight back on the Parks track but despite her big SP, she closed off her race really well in defeat when second to impressive winner Skilled Bunch. That form clearly has to read well for this.
3 Jaamint (Bet Now: $13.00) looks to have come back in super order. Resumed over 1050m at Morphettville where she got a mile back in the run but was good late without threatening behind Sunny Green. Love her up in trip, she’s got more upside than most and has placed at the track/distance.
2 Ichibansan (Bet Now: $34.00) is suited up in trip. Macdonald/Gluyas trained gelding that tends to get better as the prep goes on so he might need another run or two, but he brings a solid form line from his first up run, which saw him finish off okay late in the piece behind Munster over 1200m. Fitter, up to 1400m, he’ll run a much improved race with an eye towards the future.
