WA racing this Saturday will take place at Belmont for Idyllic Prince Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Idyllic Prince Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Idyllic Prince Stakes
Race 1. (13:18) FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT (BM78+) 2200m
The opener looks a race in two, but leaning the way of 2 Montelena (Bet Now: $2.60) with the class factor. Brave in defeat here last Saturday, just missing out on picking up True Attraction. Her 2000m+ record is outstanding, with the only poor run seeing her pull up lame. Proven weight carrier and is the one to beat.
4 Zaratite (Bet Now: $1.70) looks the only other winning hope. Pike had to get everything out of him to win here last start, breaking a frustrating run of outs for the prep. He could well go on with it, but I can’t trust him 100% just yet even though that win could do his confidence the world of good.
The best version of 1 Come Play With Me (Bet Now: $8.50) is capable but just not sure how well he is going. Ridden positively last time out and found very little under pressure in a plain effort. The small field helps his cause and we know that at his best, he would spank these.
Race 2. (13:57) AMELIA PARK (BM72+) 1600m
5 Giant Leap (Bet Now: $3.00) should love the rise to the mile. This gelding ran over 1300m here three weeks ago and was most unlucky, getting badly held up at a vital stage when third to Notorious One. He’s fit now, he gets to a suitable trip and the small field should ensure he gets clear air from the outset.
7 Nobel Laurence (Bet Now: $3.10) deserves another chance. Ran a fortnight back over 1400m here when hard in the market and to my eye, he had every chance but just lacked a turn of foot. Like him up in trip and he can easily win without shocking.
Fitter and up in trip, 3 Ouqba Ted (Bet Now: $26.00) represents value. He resumed over 1400m here two weeks back where he paraded like he would need the run and that is how it panned out behind No Apology. Might need one more, but his best is good enough to be a first four threat.
Race 3. (14:37) VALE NEIL CAYLEY PLATE 1000m
5 Prince Ragnar (Bet Now: $2.90) is on top in a tricky 3YO race. Team Williams trained gelding that debuted here last Wednesday. Just did a bit of work to get on speed and that was the difference late, just getting bloused near the peg. More economical run this time around, he will take a power of beating.
2 Policiere (Bet Now: $3.80) is a talented filly that resumes. Team Pearce trained filly that resumes, having not raced since the Karrakatta Plate when outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat. Strong trial to get ready and brings the class factor.
1 Toppa The Mountain (Bet Now: $20.00) brings fresh legs and back to 1000m, he can easily bounce back. Month between wins since racing over 1400m here on a big track when failing to run the trip out. Much better placed over the shorter distance and his best is good enough.
Race 4. (15:17) TABTOUCH WESTSPEED (RS0MW) 1200m
I’ll butter up with 3 Gunmetal Grey (Bet Now: $2.45). Was on her back last Saturday at this track/distance and was close up behind a handy mare, Zephyr Queen. She is going really well I feel and if she can sit that pair or two closer in the run, she’ll take beating I’d suggest.
1 Ohbeeh (Bet Now: $4.40) is a very genuine animal for Jim Taylor that will give his all on speed. That was the case when racing at this track/distance just over two weeks ago and looked home but was nabbed late. Last bit will test but he will look the winner for a long way.
1400m back to 1200m is a negative for 5 Looks Like Magic (Bet Now: $7.50) but she is racing really well at the moment. That 1400m run came here two weeks back when a fair way off the pace but worked home well without threatening. If she’s within range and the tempo is more genuine, she’ll be strong at the end.
Race 5. (15:57) SEACORP (RS1MW) 1000m
Bit of a step up here for 7 The Invisible Man (Bet Now: $5.50) but he looks a likely type for the Jason Pateman camp. He won his maiden here last Wednesday and was quite dominant late in drawing clear and winning well. You’d like to think he will bounce off that and prove hard to beat here.
2 Jag The Joker (Bet Now: $4.50) is on the seven day back up for Ashley Maley after racing over 1200m here last Saturday. She had a suck run behind the speed and chased hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth. I think back to 1000m is a positive and can bounce back.
4 Requisition (Bet Now: $9.00) is on the seven day back up for Brett Pope after racing here last Saturday where he did a bit of work to get on speed and just felt the pinch at the end. He does look a pure dry track horse so if he gets conditions to suit, he can run a much improved race.
Race 6. (16:33) PENINSULA DINING ROOM (RS0LY) 2000m
1 Salon Du Cheval (Bet Now: $8.50) looks one of the better bets on the program. On the seven day back up for Neville Parker after racing here last Saturday over the mile here when back off the speed and finishing off with purpose late. Gets to a more suitable trip and should take a power of beating.
6 Aragain (Bet Now: $5.50) should be suited back in trip. Ran over 2200m here last Saturday and for mine, just didn’t run it out. Was there to win but couldn’t finish the race off. Quick back up and back to 2000m looks an ideal set up and is a definite winning chance.
5 Cape Reign (Bet Now: $16.00) at 2000m is very interesting. Hasn’t been proven beyond 1600m but steps up in trip after just a fair run two weeks back here behind Brave Dream but I think the lead here, potentially, is that the stable finds Willie Pike to steer, so watch the market.
Race 7. (17:15) CROWN TOWERS (RS1MW) 1600m
4 Brave Dream (Bet Now: $1.950) did the right thing by us two weeks ago and I’ll bank on her doing the right thing again. Lovely ride from CJP saw her win, charging home from off the speed and was impressive. If she can build off that, or at very least hold it, she’ll take beating once again.
7 Peppijack (Bet Now: $20.00) is a little query at the mile but with a soft run near the speed, I think he’ll be okay. Ran over 1400m here a fortnight back when near the front and gave a good kick, but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to No Apology. If the run is soft on speed, he can threaten.
9 Megadon (Bet Now: $15.00) is three weeks between runs for Ashley Maley since winning at this track/distance, sitting off the speed and launching late to get the job done. Bit more depth this time around but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
Race 8. (17:50) IDYLLIC PRINCE STAKES 1300m
Tricky edition of the Idyllic Prince so when in doubt, go with class and that is with 1 Neufbosc (Bet Now: $16.00), who resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Melbourne Autumn when outclassed in a brutally run Blamey. Three trials to get ready have been sound and I think he’s forward enough to win fresh.
4 Samizdat (Bet Now: $2.90) is a noted fresh performer so it was no real shock to see him win the Belmont Newmarket two weeks ago, finishing over the top and nailing them late. If he can translate that and improve on just a fair second up record, he’ll take a power of beating.
3 Media Baron (Bet Now: $23.00) is a son of Written Tycoon for David Harrison that resumes. He hasn’t raced since April 24 when down the track in the Diggers Cup at Ascot but by that time, he was looking for the paddock I dare say. Trialled well leading in and can pull out a decent run fresh.
Race 9. (18:25) IRISNDT (BM66+) 1200m
5 Kaptain Kaos (Bet Now: $2.35) is a Michael Grantham trained four year old that is three weeks between runs since producing an electric finale from the back to get up and record a big win. He’s fast becoming a reliable horse and off a good speed, he will launch at these late.
4 Rebel Knight (Bet Now: $23.00) has run well at Saturday metro level before and now his confidence is up, he can go on with it. His confidence came via last Wednesday with a strong win here in what looked a strong midweek race. Wouldn’t shock to see him go close here.
6 Miss Marietta (Bet Now: $46.00) is a very interesting runner. Brett Pope trained mare that resumes, having not raced since April 17 when a game fifth over 1800m at Ascot. Resumes without a trial, so is this her trial? Not sure, so I’d watch the market with her.
