The second edition of the ‘Rapid Racing’ concept down the Flemington straight comes around this Friday, with seven races set down. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out twelve metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (15:30) Tick Homes Mdn Plate 1000m
Looks a race in two to start the program. Just at the better odds and with race experience under the belt, I’ll go with 3 Akaka Falls (Bet Now: $4.00). Comes out of a couple of strong maidens in his first prep when showing good speed and tiring late. Looked very sharp in a Sandown jumpout and does look a short course horse, so 1000m fresh I like.
Wouldn’t be shocked if 6 Oxley Road (Bet Now: $1.75) was crunched into $1.50 and bolted up. Thorn Park colt on debut for Peter Moody and he has looked every bit a good horse at the jumpouts, and has run good time relative to the morning each time he has stepped out, which is a good guide. Market will tell you if he’s ready to go, but the jumpouts say yes he is and the early market support says yes as well.
9 Ultimate Man (Bet Now: $23.00) has some really good form around him from his first prep and if there is going to be a total blowout, could be this guy. Resumes for Shane Fliedner and gets Johnny Allen to steer. Winkers on for the resumption and hasn’t looked too bad in a couple of jumpouts. Must include in multiples.
Race 2. (16:00) Firstly Home (bm64) 1000m
Landed with 1 Diesel’N’Dust (Bet Now: $4.60), resuming for the Warren/Krongold team. Hasn’t raced since the Winter when placing in a couple of metro races, both of which weren’t too bad as a form reference. Two jumpouts to get ready have been pretty sharp and looks ready to go fresh IMO.
11 Dana Point (Bet Now: $4.00) looks better suited at 1000m. Ran over 1100m here last start where she was a sole runner on the inside section of the track and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Zesty Belle. Think back a fair bit in overall depth and back to 1000m, she’s likeable for sure.
5 Stylish Enuff (Bet Now: $8.00) takes on a handy bunch of three year olds but he was impressive when winning on debut at his home track at Warrnambool. Led throughout and he was dominant in the run to the line, running solid time relative to the meeting. Bred to swim, he can measure up for sure.
Race 3. (16:30) Winslow Constructors Dash-bm70 1000m
I’m with 10 Modear (Bet Now: $2.40) but not a great deal of confidence. Patrick Payne trained mare that ran down the straight over 1100m last time out against a handy bunch of Mares and was solid in defeat when third to straight track specialist Absolute Flirt. Think that reads well for a midweek 70 race.
6 Huffington (Bet Now: $4.80) has sustained speed and is 2/2 to start the prep. Track pattern was in her corner fresh at Bairnsdale but had to take advantage of it and she did so. Then went to Cranbourne when taking on decent horse flesh but led throughout and was too good. She’ll lead this pack up and give a bold sight.
Can 2 Sagarra (Bet Now: $21.00) find some positive form on a wet track? His two runs back from a spell have been okay without setting the world alight, but they have come on firm tracks, and for mine, at this level, he is best suited when getting his toe in, a set up he gets here, so think he can be an improver at odds.
Race 4. (17:00) Eynesbury Golf (bm64) 1100m
Going with 9 Kootara (Bet Now: $8.00) each way. Gordon Strang trains this mare and she has been racing really well in town in recent times. Latest run came seven weeks ago at the Valley when wide no cover and sticking on gamely when fifth to Don’ttelltheboss. Subsequent jumpout when making Stakes class horse Hi Stranger look second rate was very encouraging for a race like this.
Jerome Hunter looks to have a progressive three year old on his hands in 5 Zipping Boy (Bet Now: $2.40), who has won two of four to start his career. Latest run came a few weeks ago on a testing track at Sale when on speed before being clicked up to find the best ground, which he did, and booted clear. Harder here, but has the right racing pattern.
Fresh legs and back to 1100m I like for 1 Carlingford (Bet Now: $14.00). Has had a month off since racing down the straight over 1200m when on speed and tiring late behind an in form Riding The Wave. That was a 78 and now he drops to 64, so he has the form to bounce back and gets Johnny Allen.
Race 5. (17:30) Eynesbury Estate (rs0mw) 1200m
I was quite impressed by the first up win of 3 Platini (Bet Now: $4.00) at Yarra Valley. Lumped the 60kg and knuckled down strongly from off the speed to win and charge clear late for a super victory. Johnny Allen takes over and handles wet ground so if the rain comes, it won’t hurt his prospects I don’t think.
12 Zion (Bet Now: $3.50) is a progressive three year old for the Maher/Eustace team that finds a winnable race here. Few weeks between runs since racing at Caulfield in what was a fast run race and pulling up with excuses behind Dickin Medal. Back to this sort of level, drawn out, bred to handle wet ground, leading contender.
11 Trodaire (Bet Now: $16.00) is better suited over further but he does have a touch of quality about him. Resumes for Lloyd Kennewell after a mixed Spring prep, which saw him win impressively at Echuca and in a couple of runs at city level subsequent, he was far from disgraced. Quiet jumpout, but if they overdo it in front, he’ll be strong at the end.
Race 6. (18:00) Psp Property Group (bm70) 1200m
12 That Girl (Bet Now: $4.50) is several weeks between runs for Phillip Stokes since racing down the straight at Flemington where she was back near last in the pack before getting towards the outside fence and finishing off nicely late behind Ididitforlove. Think she’s going well. Just hope she doesn’t get so far back in the run.
11 Japery (Bet Now: $4.20) is putting together a pretty decent record for Patrick Payne and is hard to beat. Didn’t beat much last time out down the straight here, but he led throughout and gave them an absolute spanking. Don’t mind him taking on the older horses and draws the right part of the track.
5 Messerschmitt (Bet Now: $13.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Team Freedman, he now finds himself with Amy & Ash Yargi. Three weeks between runs since racing down the straight at Flemington and didn’t really get the rub of the green late behind Ididitforlove in what is a good form race. A win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 7. (18:30) Resimax Grp Jockeys Chall-bm64 1200m
Think a rise to 1200m is ideal for the Chris Waller trained filly 12 My Best Effort (Bet Now: $4.40). Has been pretty good in a couple of runs back from a spell, resuming with a luckless effort at the Valley behind Malicorne after sitting wide no cover. Then went to the straight here and was warming to the task late behind Zesty Belle. Hard fit now and up in trip, ideal bet in the get out.
D-Day here for 6 Sayumi (Bet Now: $4.80) to confirm if she’s indeed a city class horse or not. Looked very sharp when winning her maiden fresh at the Valley before a narrow second at that track next start. Last time out at Sandown, she was a notable drifter in betting and ran accordingly. Freshened up, giving her one last chance.
If 4 Arigato (Bet Now: $6.50) drew out, could almost have her on top. Gee it was a super win at Benalla, sitting back in the run before peeling wider into clear air and she let down powerfully to win and win well. Gets Craig Williams to steer and if she can get luck from the gate, she’ll be in the finish.
