A bumper eight race program has been assembled for Gosford on Tuesday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Gosford Guineas 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Gosford Guineas
Race 1. (13:15) Narara Plumbing Mdn Plate 1100m
Bit surprised that 9 Raoul (Bet Now: $5.00) isn’t closer to favourite. Kermadec gelding for James Cummings that is on debut and has been very well educated for start one given this is his fourth prep in work. Been kept on ice for the debut but the recent Canterbury trial suggests he’s a handy one and I think can make a winning debut. $5+ is more than acceptable.
12 Street Power (Bet Now: $1.80) looks to have talent, but under $3 for a horse that was $26 on debut in a country maiden and is now racing in what is pretty much a metro maiden? Only reason I can see why he is that short is the J Mac factor, and the debut when leading and outbobbed late was tidy. He can win, but the current price is poison. I’d want near double figures before entertaining him as a bet.
I couldn’t back 3 Krayzelburg (Bet Now: $31.00) to win, but can entertain him as a first four hope. Resumes for Paul Perry, having not raced since August 4 when a closing third at Scone after getting back off the speed. Loved the way he closed off under riding in a recent Wyong trial and can run a forward race fresh in a competitive event.
Race 2. (13:50) Sprout Recruitment Mdn Plate 1100m
Wasn’t sure they would run 6 Linguee (Bet Now: $3.30) given the wide gate and the fact she was nominated for Thursday, but they are running here and with Mareeba out, she does look the one to beat. Has had two trials to get ready and has looked pretty sharp each time she has stepped out, and with the stable getting J Mac to steer, think she’s the one to beat on debut.
8 Miss Baltimore (Bet Now: $7.50) has race experience on her side and that should help her cause. Debuted over 1100m at Orange when doing work from the gate to find a spot near the speed. Used petrol tickets to get there and battled away well. Just got a stitch late. Like to think she’ll improve from that and has the early toe to overcome the barrier.
3 Expat (Bet Now: $21.00) is a very interesting runner. Daughter of Makfi for Mark Newnham that is on debut. Two trials suggest she hasn’t got much, but is bred to appreciate a bit further and noteworthy that the Blinkers go on for start one, something she hasn’t worn in trials, so I’d watch the market and see if it knows something.
Race 3. (14:25) R3 (bm64) 1000m
Taking a chance with 2 Nosey (Bet Now: $6.50), who was formerly trained by Les Tilley but is now with the Kris Lees camp. Showed good promise when last in work and the form around him…just reads superior to this lot, with close up efforts Indy Car and Burning Crown in respective runs. Trial was good, J Mac booked…looks hard to beat.
No idea what to do with 1 Rejinsky (Bet Now: $3.50). His best is very good, which was seen first up at Taree when leading and bolting up. But his bad was seen last start here when doing way too much work on speed and folding up badly to run a bad last. Subsequent trial win was good…but I just have to watch rather than back because I don’t know for certain which version will turn up.
3 Special Date (Bet Now: $14.00) is a daughter of Snitzel for Matty Vella that resumes. This mare hasn’t raced since July 21 at Wyong when finishing down the track behind One To Remember but did make up good ground late in the piece. Can sprint well fresh and liked her recent trial. Best is good enough so watch the market.
Race 4. (15:05) The Joker/ Thief Terrigal-bm64 1600m
I think double figures is also more than acceptable for 9 Split Not A Shock (Bet Now: $5.50). I’d just forget she went around on the Kenso last time. The track was shifty, the race had depth to it and she just didn’t measure up. Much better suited here and draws to get a lovely run in transit. Can easily bounce back against these.
3 Onemore Sapphire(Bet Now: $2.60) is absolutely flying since joining Terry Evans. Has won two of his three runs for the new stable, the latest coming on Magic Millions Day at Wyong when heavily backed and under a lovely ride from Jason Collett, was able to score. Harder here, but hard to knock a horse going as well as he is.
12 Think Straight (Bet Now: $21.00) can add value to wider multiples. Anthony Cummings trained gelding that resumed over 1400m at Kembla and while he was never really a winning threat, I liked the way he finished his race off in a tidy effort. Is a second up winner and is suited up to the mile. Think he’s a knockout chance here.
Race 5. (15:40) Beaches Surf School (bm64) 1600m
Significant rain is forecast for Monday and Tuesday, so potentially on a very soft, nearly heavy track. If that is the case, I’m amazed double figures is available for 6 Dinado (Bet Now: $7.00). I think she should nearly be favourite. Resumed over 1400m at Hawkesbury and I loved the way she kept finding the line between runners when fourth to Send Me Wild. Loves getting her toe, previous second up winner and just feel she’s the wrong price.
8 Mandalong Tapit (Bet Now: $3.20) deserves a crack at provincial level. Sue Grills trained galloper that has been given a mini freshen up since giving his rivals a spanking at Gunnedah, winning by over five lengths and winning with something in hand. Good test here, but in form and the claim for Mikayla Weir certainly helps.
10 Cicero Field (Bet Now: $10.00) is proven on wet ground and has the WaterBott polish. Resumed in the same Hawkesbury race that Dinado resumed in. Cicero Field led and gave a good kick but just felt the pinch late when fifth. He’ll take good improvement from that, should land near the speed and give a bold sight at odds.
Race 6. (16:20) Gosford Guineas 1200m
The safe option looks to be 9 Forbidden Love (Bet Now: $2.40) for Team Freedman. Quality filly that resumes, having not raced since the Group l Empire Rose when a very game and close up third to Shout The Bar, getting nabbed in the last couple of strides. Tick over trial was good, gets J Mac on, handles wet ground…hard to find a negative.
1 Malkovich (Bet Now: $3.50) is absolutely flying at the moment for Mark Newnham, but how will he go if we get a genuine wet track? He’s been dynamic this time in, but has been on firm footing, where he has produced sustained speed from the front. Harder this time around, but he’s got the right racing pattern and prior to first up, he did bolt up on a heavy track in a trial.
10 Redoute’s Image (Bet Now: $8.50) should appreciate the rise to the six furlongs. Kris Lees trained filly that resumed over 1100m at Randwick and was good late after getting held up early when third to Salina Dreaming. Tends to save her best for wet tracks, gets extra ground and should appreciate a fast run race.
Race 7. (16:55) Gosford Rsl Belle Of The Turf 1600m
7 On The White Turf (Bet Now: $10.00) is a query if we get a truly wet track, but she’s flying and appears overs at double figures. Sat back off a good speed last time out at Canterbury before peeling wider and she unleashed a powerful finale to get up and win. Has won on heavy before, but is better on firmer footing. Just at the price, happy to be with her.
9 Fulmina (Bet Now: $3.10) likely gets conditions to suit, and has upside, so is hard to beat in that regard, but she’s short enough all the same. Looked to have every chance at Randwick last time out but was very one paced when sixth to New Arrangement. Also, the inside that meeting was gold, so I think you can forgive her. Can win, but too short in early betting.
5 Monegal (Bet Now: $15.00) looks to have returned in really good order. Theresa Bateup trained mare that was an impressive first up winner at Kembla on Gong Day before going to Randwick where she had little to no luck in the straight and clearly should have finished much closer behind I Am Vinnie. Off that outing, now up in trip, she’s great value at nearly $20.
Race 8. (17:35) Tab Malcolm Cusick Stakes (c4) 1200m
Tricky race to close out the meeting. What I know is that 10 Allez Rev (Bet Now: $4.60) is hard fit, in form and loves wet ground, so at the odds, happy to speck him at the double figures in the last. Ran last Monday at Scone on what was a bottomless track and he absolutely lapped it up, spanking them under Reece Jones. Might well get similar conditions here if the forecast is right and gets an in form Kathy O’Hara to steer.
4 Liberty Sun(Bet Now: $2.20) would love this track to dry out as the day progresses. Think he’s going really well and has the right form lines to win, but just a bit of a query on wet ground. Last five runs have come at metro level and he’s been very consistent without winning. On form, he’s the one. Just give in the track concerns me.
13 Fine Hero (Bet Now: $61.00) is an absolute must for multiples. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1000m at Dubbo where he got back to near last in the run and worked home quite well I thought behind Rogue Runner in a race that rated well for the meeting. Little query at 1200m, but does handle wet ground.
