30/1/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Rosehill, Expressway Stakes day

The Autumn Carnival is just around the corner and that is certainly the case at Rosehill on Saturday where it is Expressway Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Winx getting weight off rivals was continually good placement…but the placement from Tash Burleigh with 1 Al Mah Haha (Bet Now: $1.70 TOP ODDS) is similar here. I just don’t see how he gets beat. Goulburn Cup winner, Stakes performed, proven city performer…this should be a one act affair, all things being equal.

9 Proven Class (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win another Highway and I think she gets a chance here if the fav is off his game. Was 1800m back to 1500m in a Highway here two weeks ago. Loomed to win when she made her run with Banger but that horse proved too good, just, in a tight finish. Was over a month between runs, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement.

4 Loafing (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) is building a solid little record and deserves a crack at a Highway. He ran on Moruya Cup Day last time out in what looked a pretty solid B60. He was there to be run down from near the speed but found plenty under pressure to get the win. Was only second up there, so he’s got room for improvement.

1 Mallory (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) has the A1 form next to her name and that should be enough to get her home here. Hasn’t raced since her debut in the Gimcrack when producing really good late splits from the back when second to Enthaar. Moved well in a recent trial and she should love a truly run 1100m. Happy to be with her.

3 Total Babe (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) is a leading chance. Daughter of I Am Invincible for the WaterBott team that resumes after a two run Spring prep. Ran a game third in the Gimcrack before going to the Kirkham when fourth to Tiger Of Malay. Given a good hitout when winning her Rosehill trial and has the right racing pattern for this track/distance.

2 Vianello (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) deserves another chance. Smashed the clock in winning on debut over 900m at Newcastle before going to Randwick where she went too keen in the run and had nothing left for the straight when third to Rocket Tiger. Tick over trial was a nice piece of work and think she has the engine under the hood to give this a shake.

9 Home Affairs (Bet Now: $2.30 TOP ODDS) is a Team Snowden trained colt that resumes. Hasn’t raced since his debut in the Breeders Plate when a closing second to subsequent Magic Millions winner Shaquero. How strong is that form? Have to wait and see, but thought his recent Gosford trial was more than encouraging.

1 Readily Availabull (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is an interesting runner. John Sargent trained colt that was heading towards the Magic Millions but has been kept on ice to target the Slipper. It wasn’t a strong field he beat in the Clockwise Classic at Ballarat but he was strong at the end. Trial was good and has race experience.

6 Montana Flash (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) can be a big improver here. Team Hawkes trained colt that resumes, having not raced since his debut in the Victory Vein where he was very raw and new to the racing caper and needed the run. Given a good break, has trialled well leading in and gets the Blinkers off to hopefully relax him.

8 Great House (Bet Now: $2.70 TOP ODDS) is the one with upside and progression. Former Irish galloper that made his Australian debut over the mile at Flemington two weeks ago and was a real eye catcher late when warming to the task when fourth to High’N’Dry. Fitter and up in trip, very likeable.

3 Harpo Marx (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is racing really well at the moment for Bjorn Baker. Far from disgraced two back on the Kenso track before racing here two weeks ago where Rachel King gave him a lovely steer and in a tight go, finished best to win. Just has to hold his form to go close once again.

2 Word For Word (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) does tend to save her best for Randwick but J Mac does get on well with her and she’s a mare who loves to get her toe. Found the race a bit warm last time out at Randwick behind Sacramento. This race looks more suitable and an improved showing is on the cards.

4 Oscar Zulu (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Chris Waller three year old that is a month between runs since racing in the Vo Rogue when back off the speed and working home with real purpose late when fourth to Apache Chase. If this was 1600m, I’d declare him. Just fresh legs and remaining at 1400m is the knock.

Easy to see why 6 Marsanay (Bet Now: $3.00) is popular given the form around him and his record on wet ground. Last run came during the Magic Millions Carnival in a hot Class Four when a game third to the well performed stablemate Yao Dash. Just has to hold that form to go close to winning here.

1400m should be fine for the Chris Waller trained 7 Tycoonist (Bet Now: $7.50). Somewhat unwanted in betting when racing over 1300m here a fortnight back but McEvoy gave him a peach just off the speed and he finished best to win and win well. Off that effort, 1400m should be okay and is a leading contender.

6 Charretera (Bet Now: $4.20) looks to be going super. Resumed with a strong win at Canterbury before bumping into All Time Legend at Randwick. Then raced here two weeks ago and worked home strongly from the back when third to Count De Rupee. If he can sit closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.

12 Bluff’N’Bluster (Bet Now: $4.80) can be a big improver here if he can sit closer in the run. Big win two back at Randwick before racing here two weeks ago where he got too far back in the run in a race dominated by those nearer the speed. Has a good gate to use and is certainly capable of winning.

1 Cognac (Bet Now: $8.50) deserves another chance. Former UK galloper that made his Australian debut here two weeks ago and it was a good sign that the market liked, into $7 from $8. Didn’t get the best of luck and should have finished a touch closer. Not sure he was going to win though but off the trials, deserves another chance.

5 Savatiano (Bet Now: $2.05) was a bit hot and cold during the Spring, but we know her best is good enough and the stable would dearly love to win a big one with her, with a race like the Canterbury Stakes firmly on the agenda. Quality mare who has an outstanding fresh record and the recent trial was good. Class will carry her a long way.

6 Flit (Bet Now: $5.00) is a quality mare for James Cummings and Godolphin that resumes and she is a mare who does tend to race best with fresh legs. Hasn’t raced since the Golden Eagle when struggling on the wet track behind stablemate Colette. Recent trial last Thursday was encouraging enough and that first up record does mean she gets respect.

I’m very interested in 7 Mizzy (Bet Now: $10.00), resuming for Anthony Cummings. This talented mare hasn’t raced since the Sheraco when down the track and pulling up with excuses behind Haut Brion Her. Loved the two trials leading in to get ready and her best efforts have come when racing at Rosehill.

The map isn’t kind for 10 Brutality (Bet Now: $7.50), but he has come back in really good order for Joe Pride. Like he is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Randwick where he just got a bit too far back in the run but closed off well. Saves his best for when he gets his toe in and down in the weights, Blinkers on, he’s likeable at odds.

3 True Detective (Bet Now: $6.50) is a little query at 1500m but as he is getting older, he seems to be racing as if the trip will be okay. Ran over 1400m at Randwick three weeks ago when getting a suck run behind the speed and battling away okay behind All Time Legend. Think that is good form for a race like this.

It’s been a slow and steady approach with 9 Pandano (Bet Now: $12.00) it seems. His runs have been spaced and each of the three runs back from a break have come at 1200m, the latest being three weeks ago behind King Of Hastings in a solid effort. This looks a winnable assignment and finally gets out in trip.

Happy to speck 8 Thermosphere (Bet Now: $8.50) each way at double figures in the get out. Think with the hype around Masked Crusader and Big Parade, you will get a decent price if you like one, and this girl does have a touch of quality about her when right. Trialled at Randwick over the 740m and gee it was a lovely piece of work, interestingly without the blinkers. She’ll sit off this good speed and be strong late.

3 Big Parade (Bet Now: $2.60) can bounce back here, but do feel he needs things to fall into place for him. He needs to get a soft run on speed, whether it be outside the leader or in front, controlling. He copped too much heat three weeks ago at Randwick and was found wanting late behind King Of Hastings. If he gets conditions to suit, think he wins.

6 Handspun (Bet Now: $13.00) deserves another chance. On face value, he was pretty plain fresh behind King Of Hastings, but the tempo was quite hot for her, and she was just run off her legs, so forgive and forget she went around. Trials prior indicated she had come back in good order, so give her another chance.

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 1 Al Mah Haha

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 8 Thermosphere
