A ten race card has been set down for Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 5.5 metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:15) Xmas Twilight Raceday 10/12 1600m
2 Big Muskie (Bet Now: $1.60) should love the rise to the mile for Tony Gollan. Strong maiden win over 1350m at Doomben two back. They rode him colt over 1400m here two weeks ago and was no match for Rhapsody Rose, but his finale was very good, screaming out of a horse wanting further, which he gets here. He’ll be hard to hold out.
1 Crack Of Doom (Bet Now: $5.50) looks like he should be suited up to the mile. His last few runs have come at 1400m, winning a couple of races before a solid effort two weeks back behind Rhapsody Rose. The way he is racing, 1600m should be fine and is a knockout chance I feel.
4 Kiss My Millo (Bet Now: $12.00) lacks the class but is a proven performer at the mile. Dominant maiden win two back at Ipswich before racing there again and despite running last, was beaten just under three lengths. The small field suits and could sneak a first four spot.
Race 2. (12:50) Tab Venue Mode (bm80) 2131m
5 Southern Rock (Bet Now: $6.50) is sneaky flying for Matty Dunn and can take this out. They rode him far too warm two back at Doomben. Rode him with a sit here two weeks ago and he ran much better when fourth to an in form Irish Sequel. He’s got upside to come and finds a winnable race.
3 Youngblood (Bet Now: $2.30) is three weeks between runs for Matty Dunn since recording a second straight win, fighting hard to win over 1800m here in a driving go. He has won up to 2200m so the rise in trip and given he’s racing so well, he’ll take a power of beating here I’d suggest.
2 Hostage Of War (Bet Now: $5.50) has found winning form despite Bar Plates being on and is a knockout chance if this track is suiting those on speed. More or less a barrier trial win two back at the Gold Coast. He then backed up at Ipswich when an all the way winner, ridden a treat by Andrew. He’ll put himself on speed and give cheek from the front.
Race 3. (13:30) Moet & Chandon Hcp 1200m
3 Battledance (Bet Now: $2.90) is a huge market watch here. Kacy Fogden trained son of Invader that is on debut off the back of two trials. Latest trial was a win last Monday at the Gold Coast when a narrow winner but ran good time in doing so, so keen to see to how he goes here at start one.
1 Mishani Persusation (Bet Now: $3.10) has the hard fitness/experience under the belt, which should hold him in good stead for this. Good late fresh at Doomben before going to 1000m here where he did a bit wrong in the straight but once he knuckled down, he was strong in fending them off. Off that, 1200m is fine and is a key chance.
4 Zouson Boy (Bet Now: $9.50) is a first four threat. He comes here off several trials, so the grounding is there to suggest he’ll go well at start one. I will say though he was safely held by Battledance in a Gold Coast trial so off that, he needs to improve, but do have to respect the stable.
Race 4. (14:10) Harvey Norman Queensland Hcp 1000m
1 Stellar Magic (Bet Now: $1.90) looks to pick herself. Three weeks between runs since resuming at this track/distance. She was ridden cold and worked home strongly when second to Glorious Ruby, who would start favourite here. Better for the run, she has class and will take beating.
4 Refero (Bet Now: $2.20) is a talented animal for Tony Gollan that comes to town in winning after giving them a spanking first up at the Sunny Coast, getting a sit behind the speed before clear air came and away he went, doing a number on his rivals in a race which had depth. Keen to seen how he goes in town again and whether he has improved from his 2YO season.
3 Gemelon Bolt (Bet Now: $15.00) should be suited back to 1000m. He sat on speed over 1200m at the Sunny Coast last time out and tried hard, but the last bit of the race, he couldn’t quite finish it off. I think back to 1000m is a big tick for him and his best is certainly good enough.
Race 5. (14:50) Canadian Club Plate (c3) 1200m
6 Kingscote (Bet Now: $3.80) is racing really well at the moment for Scott Morrisey. Narrow second to She Can Sing two back at the Gold Coast. Then went to Doomben when leading and gave a good kick, but was run down late by a smart one in Contemptuous. Last bit of 1200m will test, but gets a good set up here after the claim.
Fitter, I think 1 Confidant (Bet Now: $7.50) can go close. He was around a month between runs when racing at this track/distance two weeks ago. He trucked into the race and looked the winner when presented, but just couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow third to Acrobatic. I think he’ll take beating now he has that run under the belt.
3 The Big Goodbye (Bet Now: $4.00) is knocking on the door to win one. Bumped into a very much in form Sir Warwick two back at Doomben before racing at this track/distance when on speed and trying hard. Just failed to get there when second to Acrobatic. He’ll put himself on speed and give his all.
Race 6. (15:36) Padua College Qlty 1825m
3 Prioritise (Bet Now: $5.00) for me. He’s found winning form and we know with Steve Tregea runners, when they find winning form, they hold it. Lovely ride in from from Wilson-Taylor saw him lead throughout here two weeks ago and land some big bets in the process. Up in trip only helps his cause and is hard to beat.
6 Milk Man (Bet Now: $3.50) has found winning form and can certainly go on with it. Was a fair while between drinks but that all changed last start on his home track at Warwick Farm when bolting up. I always am wary of Warwick Farm horses on their home track, but this is a very winnable race.
4 Prometheus (Bet Now: $11.00) is a first four prospect. Dominant win on wet ground two back at the Gold Coast. He then raced in the Prioritise race and was okay late without threatening behind the Tregea runner. I think he’s racing like 1800m suit and is one for multiples.
Race 7. (16:21) Xxxx Dry (bm80) 1000m
4 Black Magnum (Bet Now: $3.30) is a very interesting runner. Formerly based in Sydney, Tony Gollan has him and the Gollan/Darby Racing combo are firing. He’s a dry track horse, so he will get that here, and is a bomb when produced fresh, so watch the market with him. If it’s with him, have something on with confidence.
6 Hidden Hail (Bet Now: $3.70) should prove to be a leading chance here for Barry Lockwood. He was several weeks between runs when racing over this track/distance two weeks ago. He had a suck run behind the speed and tried hard but was clearly no match for Le Palmier. Back to 80 grade, he appeals big time.
5 Raiden (Bet Now: $21.00) is closer to the end of his career rather than the beginning, but he’s an honest animal that can sneak a first four spot. Run off his legs at Mackay last time out but picked up and was good late when a close up third. I doubt he wins, but one for multiples.
Race 8. (17:01) Nova 106.9 (bm75) 1600m
6 Bahamut (Bet Now: $11.00) should be suited here. Resumed with a dominant win at Lismore before going to the Highway at Randwick. Loomed to win but just lacked the turn of foot to put them away when second. He’s racing like he wants further, so staying at the mile a query, but the form around him from last prep reads well.
11 The Dark (Bet Now: $9.50) is nearing a win for Scott Morrisey. He ran over 1500m here two weeks ago. Could make a case to say he wins had he got a clear path in the straight in what was a messy race won by Ciccina and Vendidit. Knocking on the door to win one and gets his chance here.
4 Vendidit (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing really well at the moment for Team Guy and has to be respected here. He was there to be beaten two weeks back here but found under pressure and surged inside Ciccina, sharing the spoils with that mare. He’s honest and should be around the mark again.
Race 9. (17:41) Lexus Plate (c6) 1400m
Rub of the green this time around and I think 5 Enterprise Prince (Bet Now: $5.00) can get a well deserved victory on the board. Jaden Lloyd has been the form apprentice in Brisbane the last couple of months, but he rode a howler on this guy two weeks ago. Probed for a gap instead of waiting to peel widest and finish over the top. Should have won. He’s flying and is hard to beat.
2 Phaistos (Bet Now: $4.40) could easily blow this field away. Big market watch on this former Godolphin galloper, who now finds himself with Gillian Heinrich and the stable has had good success with these Godolphin cast offs. This guy is Stakes class and has trialled up super in readiness for his first run for the new camp. Keen to see how he goes.
3 Ziemba (Bet Now: $12.00) had been teasing punters for some time but the run of outs came to an end a fortnight back, getting the suck run behind the speed and finishing best in a driving go to get the job done. Now he has got a win on the board, he can certainly go on with it.
Race 10. (18:22) Sky Racing Plate (c3) 1200m
6 Salateen (Bet Now: $3.10) deserves another chance. This girl has had a couple of runs for Tony Gollan. Resumed with a spank job at Doomben, justifying a short quote. She then raced at this track/distance where I was quite keen on her but she was disappointing I thought when third to Centrefire. Have to give her another look given the first up win was too good to ignore.
5 Pull Anchor (Bet Now: $2.50) has a tricky draw to overcome but she’s a capable mare if things fall her way. Resumed a few weeks ago and closed off strongly from off the speed when second to Shamaton, who went within a lip of winning last Saturday, so the form does read well. Just needs luck from the gate.
3 Nicci Trix (Bet Now: $15.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Jenny Graham at Port Macquarie, this mare now finds herself with Lauren Abbott. Game effort fresh in a Highway at Randwick before a plain effort in the feature sprint on Port Macquarie Cup Day. New stable, new surroundings, watch the market.
