Back Me

Back to 1000m is a little query with 3 Point Taken (Bet Now: $12.00), but Jim Taylor has this mare going super. Ran over 1200m here last time out when back off what looked a good speed before peeling wider into clear air and gee she let down strongly to get the job done. Will be giving them a start, but is flying and will be strong late if they go silly in front.

Danger

6 Dew West (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Jason Pateman trained filly that takes on the older horses after taking on her own age two weeks ago at Ascot when a notable drifter in betting, but she sat on speed and did try hard. Just no match for a progressive one in We’ve Got Dreams. Racing well, gives herself every chance. Can she finish it off?

Long Shot

5 Leica Jaguar (Bet Now: $4.80) has been pretty solid in all four runs this prep for Neville Parnham. Got the maiden win out of the way three back before a close up fourth to the above average River Beau. Then stayed again at the Ascot 1000m and finished off strongly from the back when second to the in form Miss Conteki. That reads well for this.

Race 2. (14:37) Perth Racing At Home (Bm78+) 1000m

5 Fire And Rain (Bet Now: $4.40) is a knockout chance. Paul Jordan trained four year old that resumed at Ascot two weeks ago when ridden cold from the wide gate and worked home okay late behind Speeding Comet. Can take advantage of gate one and sit much closer in the run. If that eventuates, he’ll be dangerous.

Danger

1 Super Maxi (Bet Now: $3.70) is a son of Redoute’s Choice for Chris Gangemi that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Miss Andretti back in January at Ascot when down the track behind Valour Road after sitting on speed. Last 18 months, he hasn’t done a great deal, but this is without doubt the easiest race he has contested during that time.

Long Shot

6 Hoboken (Bet Now: $5.50) may want a tad further than this, but with a wet track, it’ll feel like 1100m-1200m and he does have okay wet track form so he’s certainly a contender here. Ran over 1000m at Ascot two weeks ago and worked home pretty well I thought behind Speeding Comet, and actually clocked some of the best late splits of the race. Definite chance.

Race 3. (15:17) Gourmet Takeaway Plate 1000m

Back Me

1 Dunbar (Bet Now: $1.80) is the one on top for me, but not going to declare him and if he’s odds on, I’ll be happy to just watch. He’s the one to beat though with the Williams/Pike factor and comes here off a debut win over 1200m at Pinjarra where they absolutely walked in front. He was outside the leader and was able to wear it down. Back to 1000m is interesting, but they should run along, so keen to see how he handles a race with more pressure.

Danger

2 Long May You Run (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Magnus for the Trevor Andrews team that had trialled up very well prior to debuting at Ascot on May 13 when just off the speed throughout and once he got the split, he looked dangerous, but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Chantorque. Better for that run and draws well again.

Long Shot

6 Second Choice (Bet Now: $35.00) is an All American gelding that is on debut. This guy has had two trials this prep to get ready for start one, the latest coming a couple of weeks ago over 1000m at Belmont when looking to go about his business quite nicely when a narrow second to Mightiness. Looks a nice type and could sneak a first four spot.

Race 4. (15:57) Amelia Park (Bm59+) 1200m

Good race this. A really good race. I’ll be leaning the way of 3 Indian Pacific (Bet Now: $5.50), who resumes for Neville Parnham. Had a three run Summer prep to start his career, winning his first two in impressive fashion before a third to Forest War and was spelled. Loved the way he went in a trial win here, will put himself on speed and prove hard to run down.

Danger

Most eyes will be on 2 Windstorm (Bet Now: $1.55), a Team Williams trained three year old that resumes. Hasn’t raced since October 16 at Ascot when producing a brilliant finale from the back to score a big win, like he did on debut. Trial win here was very good but you would assume he has bigger fish to fry, so I think watch the market.

Long Shot

1 Eurasia (Bet Now: $19.00) is a son of Eurozone for Steve Wolfe that has been freshened up, having not raced since April 4 at Ascot over 1400m where he took an absolute eternity to wind up, but did and was very good late when fifth. He’ll be run off his legs over 1200m here I dare say but will be strong at the end I’m sure.

Race 5. (16:34) Glenroy Chaff (Bm66+) 1200m

Back Me

15 Miss Frost (Bet Now: $2.50) hasn’t ticked the 1200m box as of yet but is racing as if she’ll handle it. Ran over 1000m at Ascot two weeks ago when a strongly supported favourite and under a cool steer from Pike, the Luke Fernie trained mare showed her turn of foot and was much too good. Good test here, but confident she can measure up.

Danger

10 Sherpa Lass (Bet Now: $7.50) is worth another chance. Had a little freshen up and ran over 1200m at Pinjarra where she was back near last in the run and somewhat off the bit due to a strong tempo, so she was never really a winning chance but closed off with purpose late in a good performance. She’ll improve off that…does she want 1400m?

Long Shot

5 Star Glitter (Bet Now: $26.00) is racing really well at the moment for Neville Parnham, winning two on the bounce before a solid sixth to Double Bubble at Ascot three weeks ago after getting back in the run and held up for a few strides. 25 runs at Belmont for no wins, but despite rising nine years of age, he looks to be in career best form.

Race 6. (17:10) Byron Bay Premium Lager (Rs1mw) 1600m

Back Me

Roy Rogers has 7 Kendel’s Mee Dad (Bet Now: $8.00) in great form and I think he can measure up. Last couple of runs have resulted in impressive wins at Albany, both on wet ground, so that’s the big tick for him here, he’s in winning form and there is a few question marks on some of these, so I think he’s the way to go in a tricky contest.

Danger

1 Tollman (Bet Now: $3.30) is three weeks between runs for Paul Roberts since racing over 1800m at Ascot when wide with cover and tried hard, but I think 1800m saw him out, flattening out late to finish fourth. Like him with relatively fresh legs back to 1600m and should be able to sit much closer in the run from the gate.

Long Shot

3 Mr Pago (Bet Now: $41.00) is a veteran for Steve Wolfe but given the lack of depth here, I think he’s a first four chance. Most of his recent racing has come on his home track at Albany where he has been racing pretty well for the most part. Been a while since he has proven himself in town, but he gets a great chance to prove it again.

Race 7. (17:40) Schweppes (Bm72+) 1600m

Back Me

14 Son Of Bacchus (Bet Now: $9.50) can be a bit hit and miss at times, but he’s going really well and now he has the win under the belt, he can go right on with it. Got the win on the board last Saturday at this track/distance when put into a sweet spot just off the speed before taking the lead in the straight and fighting on strongly to win. Gets a good run from the gate again and has upside to come.

Danger

10 Festival Miss (Bet Now: $4.50) is racing in good form for Team Williams but she can’t quite crack it for a win. Ran over 1400m at Ascot two weeks ago and worked home well, but clearly no match for the above average Laverrod. She’s racing as if 1600m will suit and with her last three runs being at 1400m, the grounding is there to try her at the mile.

Long Shot

6 Friar Fox (Bet Now: $9.00) is a staying mare that resumes with potentially eyes towards a race like the Kalgoorlie Cup. Hasn’t raced since the Perth Cup where she was back and closed off strongly without threatening in a strong effort in a good race. Two trials leading in have been good. Better suited over further but has class.

Race 8. (18:15) Belmont Sprint 1400m

Good race this with a stack of chances. I’ll go each way in the shape of 2 Gatting (Bet Now: $7.50). Like many here, comes through the Roma Cup from two weeks ago at Ascot where he was well back off the speed and never really a winning factor but liked the way he finished his race off behind Vega Magic. Fab record at Belmont and has a very good second up profile.

Danger

13 Angelic Ruler (Bet Now: $5.00) hasn’t done much wrong in three runs back from a spell for the Pearce camp. Well deserved win two back in the Sheila Gwynne before going to the Roma Cup where she was very good late and clocked some of the best late splits of the race. She’ll love the rise back up to 1400m and gets a sweet run from the gate.

Long Shot

4 Man Booker (Bet Now: $18.00) can be an improver at odds for the Dan Morton stable. Resumed in the Roma Cup where he was wide no cover for the trip in a fast run race and couldn’t go on with it late, finishing down the track. He’s better than that and is a three time second up winner. Just a matter of where he gets to from the gate.

Race 9. (18:50) Crown Towers (Bm64+) 2200m

Buttering up with 6 Picture Perfect (Bet Now: $3.80). Was on him last Saturday over 2100m here and worked home strongly albeit was held up at times and should have finished a touch closer. Extra 100m I do like him for him and also like the fact that the stable backs him up, something that isn’t really their norm. Hard to beat.

Danger

3 Kia Ora Star (Bet Now: $11.00) is a bit of an unknown at the trip but I think he’ll be okay with it. Ran over 1800m at Ascot two weeks ago and I think the ride from Yuill won the race for the gelding. Ridden positively from the wide gate and was able to slot into the 1/1, and from the 400m onwards, he was always the winner. Think he’ll get it provided he gets an economical run.

Long Shot

12 Hay Magic (Bet Now: $81.00) could be a big improver at odds. I think just put a line through his last start effort at Ascot given he was back near last throughout and on a heavy track, I just don’t think he handled it all. Run prior was quite good without much luck and off that run, he’s a knockout chance against these at likely decent odds.
