3/6/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Moonee Valley

Saturday racing returns to Moonee Valley this weekend for a nine race program. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:20) : Dominant Cleaning Solutions Handicap 1200m:

Back Me: 1 Wired (Bet Now: $3.70) has been excellent in two runs back from a break for the Robbie Laing yard. Bumped into Je Suis Tycoon first up at Warrnambool before going to the Jack Maher Classic at Wodonga where she copped serious heat on speed and kicked on strongly but was nabbed late. I think with a more economical run here, she can bounce back hard.
Big Danger: 9 Behave (Bet Now: $5.50) is a daughter of Sebring resuming for Mick Kent. She debuted in the Autumn in the Chairmans where she was hard in the market early before drifting on race day and ran accordingly behind Formality, one of the better two year olds going around. That form does read well and her Cranbourne jump outs have been quite encouraging.
Long Shot: 3 Wanted Diva (Bet Now: $4.60) didn’t do a great deal first up in the VOBIS Sires behind stablemate Pure Scot before going to a Cranbourne maiden a couple of Friday nights back where she was given a lovely ride by Nolen and the filly reacted with a strong win. Looks progressive and I think she can measure up.

Race Two (12:55) : Dominant Clean Handicap 1200m:

Back Me: 7 Swiss Kiss (Bet Now: $8.50) is a progressive mare for Team Corstens who went to Wangaratta first up for the kill and despite a few hairy moments, Riordan gave her clear air and she went right on with it for a dominant win. Start prior she was four lengths off Artistry on Cup Day. How well does that read for this.
Big Danger: 2 Telopea (Bet Now: $6.00) is the blowout horse for me here. Didn’t really handle the wet track first up in the Wangoom before going to the Proud Miss at Morphettville where she got held up and was well back throughout but she worked to the line strongly behind Fuhryk. Only third up here and she does have a touch of class/quality about her.
Long Shot: 6 Majestic Lass (Bet Now: $7.00) is a talented mare for the Hayes/Dabernig yard who did a really good job first up behind Grey Street before racing at Caulfield again where she did a bit too much work on speed and tired late behind Vital Importance. Third up now, so she should be ready fitness wise, and with a more patient steer, she can be quite effective.

Race Three (13:30) : Cafetto Handicap (78) 1000m:

Back Me: 11 El Sicario (Bet Now: $4.40) had been a real rogue for all concerned but he got somewhat back in the good books last time out on the Pakenham Synthetic with an absolute spank job of his rivals. Now that his confidence is up and running, he can go right on with it and we know he has class when he’s at his best.
Big Danger: 2 Core Beach (Bet Now: $8.00) is a quality four year old for the Seyers camp who resumed during the Mount Gambier Carnival over the short course where he did an enormous job to win given he was first up and had to lump 62kg. Gets really good weight relief here, looks the leader and should take a power of beating.
Long Shot: 9 Ability (Bet Now: $5.50) goes clearly on top for me here. Quality four year old for the Robert Smerdon yard who is resuming. He has been given a decent break since racing here during the latter part of September over 955 when finishing midfield behind the quality sprinter Rock ‘N’ Gold. Trialled brilliantly at Cranbourne, he goes well fresh and he’ll be charging late.

Race Four (14:08) : ADAPT Australia Handicap 1600m:

Big Danger: 4 The Passage (Bet Now: $3.00) showed a lovely turn of foot for the Weir camp to win two back during the Warrnambool Carnival before going to Flemington a fortnight back where he just got too far back in the run but was really good late behind Guangzhou. Draws to sit closer here and Yendall is back on.
Big Danger: 2 Jaws Of Steel (Bet Now: $15.00) has been a nightmare to trust and follow since his 2YO days but he bounced back to his best form with a win over the mile at Sandown a couple of Wednesdays back where he had a nice sit near the speed and chased hard to take the lead and then cling on for the win. Now he has the win on the board, he can go on with it.
Long Shot: Thin race, so I’ll put in 9 Fortify (Bet Now: $17.00). He was okay behind The Passage at the Bool (Meets him 2.5kg better here) before going to Sale where he took an eternity to get going but was pretty good late, clearly looking for further, which he gets here, and now gets Craig Williams steering from an okay draw. Looks the overs.

Race Five (14:48) : Cafetto Coffee Clean Handicap (84) 1600m:

Back Me: 2 Victory Downs (Bet Now: $9.50) for me here. Talented horse from SA who comes to Melbourne with some really good form next to his name. Beat all bar Riziz two back before going to the R A Lee where he was clearly out of his depth but ran a beauty behind Burning Front. Draws to get a suck run behind them and he is only fourth up here so there should be upside.
Big Danger: 11 New Graduate (Bet Now: $4.60) is a mare in ripping form at the moment for the Darren Weir camp. She ran over 1800m at Flemington a fortnight back and had the charmed run behind the speed. Loomed to win when clear but was nabbed late by $101 pop Northern Journey. I think back to 1600m is ideal and she maps well.
Long Shot: 10 Cosmic Lights (Bet Now: $24.00) is on the quick back up after racing in the Echuca Cup on Sunday where he didn’t really appear to handle the shifty track but stuck on well in defeat behind the Tassie galloper Tshahitsi. Only start at the Valley saw him run second to Burning Front. Reads quite well for this.

Race Six (15:28) : William Hill Handicap (84) 1500m:

Back Me: 2 Have Another Glass (Bet Now: $3.50) is a classy mare who ventures over from SA with some really good form behind her. She ran in the Centaurea last time out where she should have absolutely bolted in but just had no luck at a vital stage. 2000m back to 1500m is the query but I’m confident she can handle it.
Big Danger: 8 Typhoon Jolie (Bet Now: $13.00) was sharply in grade when contesting the Proud Miss at Morphettville a fortnight back where she sat on speed and looked to travel well throughout under Meech. Fought hard to be only beaten two lengths by the high class filly Fuhryk. Moonee Valley should suit her nicely and now she has found some form, she can go on with it.
Long Shot: 5 Violent Snow (Bet Now: $19.00) was unwanted in betting when resuming at Caulfield but despite the market drift, she ran quite well behind Vital Importance. Not the greatest of second up records, but the rise to 1500m looks perfect and she does have a liking for the Valley, so she has to go in the numbers.

Race Seven (16:08) : WT Partnership Handicap (84) 1200m:

Back Me: 3 Heza Ripper (Bet Now: $6.00) is a horse I’m convinced who is absolutely flying this time in but has just had no luck with the barriers. That was the case three weeks back over 1200m at Morphettville where he got back and wide and wound up strongly but the wide gate again didn’t help behind Ashlor. He is going well, and if he gets the right run, he’ll take some beating.
Big Danger: 4 Chase The Horizon (Bet Now: $6.00) was very good to myself and the Justhorseracing followers a fortnight back at Morphettville. Was really well backed and aided by a beaut steer from Mark Zahra, he surged hard the final 200m to nab So You Too right on the peg. That horse won last week, so the form reads very well. First look at the Valley, but his racing pattern suggests he’ll be okay.
Long Shot: 12 Leodoro (Bet Now: $8.00) has been given a six week freshen up since racing on his home track at Cranbourne where he perhaps raced a bit too close to the speed and that probably left him gassed at the end when third to In Fairness. I think the break between runs will do him the world of good and flies fresh. One of the hardest to beat.

Race Eight (16:45) : Essendon Nissan Handicap 2040m:

Back Me: I think you have to forgive 12 Gallic Chieftain (Bet Now: $4.50) for his last start failure at Flemington. He was second up off an outstanding fresh run on a heavy Warrnambool surface and the pace at Flemington was at that tempo where those near the speed were advantaged. Be very wary of the third up bounce back.
Big Danger: 15 Overberg (Bet Now: $3.40) is a Ciaron Maher trained gelding who has been pretty good this time in. Ran over 2000m at Caulfield three weeks back where he was given a sweet ride by Yendall and looked all over a winner but was nabbed right on the peg by Hursley. Has a good record when three weeks between runs and this is a very winnable race.
Long Shot: 11 Shoreham (Bet Now: $21.00) had his first run in his second stint for the Saab Hassan yard over 1800m at Flemington last start and despite starting longer odds, he ran an absolute beauty I thought when third to surprise winner Northern Journey. The step up in trip is perfect, he has the run under the belt, and he does have class/quality.

Race Nine (17:25) : Dominant Handicap 1200m:

Back Me: I’ll be shocked if 5 Mystified (Bet Now: $10.00) doesn’t measure up here. Quality filly for the Ryan Balfour yard in SA who resumed and didn’t have the greatest of luck at Morphettville behind Mulder before racing on the Parks track last Saturday…and oh dear, it was just a nightmare to watch. Should have won but just had no luck in the straight. Bolted up here last prep and looks to have come back in good order this time around.
Big Danger: Knockout chance here is 3 Highland Beat (Bet Now: $8.00). Didn’t really set the world on fire first up behind Wise Hero before racing at Caulfield again where he had no luck in the straight and should have finished much closer behind Run Gypsy Run. Draws to get clear running here and gets C Williams on board.
Long Shot: 7 Blue Tycoon (Bet Now: $11.00) is a beauty for the Hayes/Dabernig team. Rarely runs a bad race and more often than not will pick up some good prize money for connections. He comes through the Run Gypsy Run race at Caulfield where he sat near the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there. Draws to get a lovely sit once again and Parish remains on.
