Night racing returns to the Valley on Friday night. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (18:30) Mvrc Membership On Sale (bm64) 1200m
Leaning the way of 1 Martini Special (Bet Now: $4.00) on top. Jerome Hunter looks to have a talented filly on her hands here. Debuted with an impressive win at Moe before going to this track/distance when leading and looking the winner, only just getting bloused late by Passionate Lass. The depth here, as a whole, isn’t strong, and with the claim for Maddy Lloyd, should find the front and prove hard to run down.
6 Thunder Peak (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Michael Moroney trained filly that was backed with real confidence when resuming over 1100m at Wangaratta and under a confident steer from from Lachlan King, the daughter of Vancouver dashed clear late and was far too good, running very sharp time. Off that, think she can measure up to this lot.
Interested to see how 5 Party In Style (Bet Now: $7.50) goes. Was well supported late when resuming on Kilmore Cup Day where she had the suck run in behind the speed and once Lane clicked her up, she was very strong late and proved too good. The rise to 1200m should be fine for her and looks one of the key contenders.
Race 2. (19:00) Moonee Ponds 3039 Shopping Mdn 1200m
Market will be the guide here, but on top is 11 Sayumi (Bet Now: $4.40), who resumes for Matt Laurie. This mare is first up, having not raced since April 1 at Sandown behind Quail Hollow when a little unlucky not to finish closer when a close up fourth. Three jumpouts to get ready have been encouraging, maps super and Melham remains on.
1 Aristo Missole (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Hayes/Dabernig trained son of Smart Missile that is resuming. Had two runs in the Winter to start his career and placed each time in a couple of strong form races. His two jumpouts to get ready have been quite good in solid time, so the grounding is there to suggest he’s ready to go fresh.
4 Mighty Feat (Bet Now: $9.50) is an honest customer for Peter Moody that will land near the speed and try his heart out. That was the case last Friday night at Cranbourne over 1300m and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off, but to be fair, think he was beaten by a smart animal in Ayahuasca. That form reads well for this.
Race 3. (19:30) Ladbrokes Odds Boost Hcp (c1) 1600m
Looks a race in two between Hasseltoff and Night Passage. Leaning the way of the latter in 4 Night Passage (Bet Now: $2.70), who is second up for the McEvoy camp. Resumed over 1200m here two weeks ago and closed off pretty well late in the piece when third to Corner Pocket in a good return for a horse wanting further. Fitter, up to the mile, hard to beat I feel.
5 Evie Girl (Bet Now: $3.40) wins but for multiples, could certainly include him. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago when getting a suck run along the fence and while he didn’t quicken up, he stayed on and was more than sound in defeat behind Stuchbree Stamp. Gets the claim once again and has the in form Will Price steering.
Not sure that 2 High Delta (Bet Now: $6.00) wins but for multiples, could certainly include him. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago when getting a suck run along the fence and while he didn’t quicken up, he stayed on and was more than sound in defeat behind Stuchbree Stamp. Gets the claim once again and has the in form Will Price steering.
Race 4. (20:00) Shop At Union Rd Ascot (bm70) 2040m
Bit surprised there is nearly double figures on offer for 3 Sophie’s Revenge (Bet Now: $5.50). She’s flying at the moment for Symon Wilde. Ran over the mile here two weeks ago and I think had she got a clear path in the straight, she would have won instead of a close up fifth to Night Witches. Fitter, gets to a more preferable trip and Nugent sticks.
4 Deserved (Bet Now: $5.00) has been thereabouts in recent times for the Matt Cumani team. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where she was just off the speed and she tried hard but had her chance when third to Humble Pie. Gets a soft run from the gate and will run her usual honest race.
Including 9 Pina (Bet Now: $7.00), who isn’t far off a win for the Mick Kent team. This mare sat on speed over 2000m at Mornington last time out in the small field and I thought Ben Allen rode the perfect race aboard her, pushing the button at the right time to make it a proper staying contest. Just no match for the class late of Diamondsandbubbles. Lands near the front again and will prove hard to run down with Johnny Allen taking over.
Race 5. (20:30) Ladbrokes 55 Second Chall-bm64 955m
I have this as a race in two. Going with 10 Goolagong Rose (Bet Now: $2.60). Team McEvoy trained mare that resumes, having not raced since her debut back on Oaks Day 2019 at Gawler when leading throughout and bolting up in impressive fashion. Been given a good break, has trialled up well leading in and should get a lovely run from the gate with Jamie Kah.
The big watch here is 11 Almadrava (Bet Now: $8.00). Phillip Stokes trained mare that resumes and was a bit hit/miss when last in work, but showed good ability when she produced her best. Finds a winnable race to resume in and her two jumpout wins at Pakenham have been really good. Watch the market and see what it does.
2 Bastyan (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Patrick Payne trained four year old that resumes. Last raced on August 9 at Bendigo when somewhat struggling on a very testing track when down the track behind Yulong Storm, who was flying at the time. Was down to run on Sunday at the Bool but has been saved instead for this race.
Race 6. (21:00) Heartkids Hero (bm70) 2500m
3 Pissaro (Bet Now: $4.40) is nearly a year between wins but reckon he’s knocking on the door to change that. Ran over 2400m at Sandown last Wednesday when getting back to near last in the run and spotted them too much head start but closed off strongly late in the piece behind Saint Eustace. Should have gone close to winning two back here, and Williams sticks.
4 Queein Guinivere (Bet Now: $6.00) is racing in career best form for Shane Fliedner. Won well two back over 2400m at Swan Hill before coming back to 2000m at Wangaratta where she used her turn of foot late and was impressive in winning again. Good test here, but as a whole, this race isn’t strong, plus she has gate one.
7 Kazoom (Bet Now: $9.00) is a beauty for George Osborne. Will put himself near the speed and try hard. He was there to be run down at Geelong last start but he showed good ticker under pressure and was strong to the line in winning, suggesting 2500m here will be okay and do like that John Allen remains on from Geelong.
Race 7. (21:30) Seppelt Wines (bm64) 2040m
9 Furioso (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Matt Cumani trained three year old that was an impressive maiden winner two back at Cranbourne before being thrown in the deep end in the Sandown Guineas where I thought he was a definite pass mark behind Allibor. Does he want a rise in trip now? Yes, and hard to knock the stable with their progressive younger types.
5 Laundy (Bet Now: $3.00) is on the quick back up for the Busuttin/Young camp after racing last Saturday here. Was tucked in behind the speed throughout and tried hard. Had his chance and well held when second to Ocean’s Thirteen but far from disgraced in defeat. Interesting he steps up to 2040m but does get Nash steering.
4 Yenhaab (Bet Now: $14.00) is a very interesting runner. Wasn’t too bad two back at Flemington behind Barade before going to Moe where he was backed with real confidence late and the punters got it spot on as he rounded them up from the back and was much too good. Harder here, but has gate one to use and now he has won one, he could go on with it.
Race 8. (22:00) Moonee Valley Park (bm64) 1200m
Tricky race to round out the meeting. I’ve landed with 13 Helavabel (Bet Now: $6.00) for Greg Eurell. Resumed at this track/distance two weeks ago when dragged back from the wide gate and made up some ground without threatening behind Corner Pocket. Draws much better this time around and gets Olly to steer.
11 Zoushack (Bet Now: $3.20) is a son of Zoustar for the Hayes/Dabernig team that resumes. This bloke hasn’t raced since July 9 at Sale when near the speed and really struggling to pick up late when down the track behind Evil Cry. Gets Jamie Kah to steer fresh and his two jumpouts, winning them both, have been impressive. Best is clearly good enough.
3 Bones (Bet Now: $7.50) resumes for Mitch Freedman and I find him a very interesting runner. His form is easy to tie because last start, back in May, he beat Evil Cry, who then came out soon after to beat home Zoushack in that Sale race mentioned above, so if you like Zoushack, who is favourite, then the double figures for Bones is enticing and his recent jumpouts have been encouraging.
