Ten races will be run and won at Randwick on Saturday where it is Randwick Guineas Day. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (10) and the rail is out six metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:20) Midway (bm72) 1600m
Down in the weights and on speed, it looks a good set up for 14 Cap Estel (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS). Anthony Cummings trained filly that was on speed last time out on the Kenso track and she showed good fight, just getting run down late by Score. Gets right down in the weights and that is always a big tick with genuine heavy tracks.
6 Moridan (Bet Now: $3.10 TOP ODDS) is a naughty boy at times, which was clearly seen first up, but he put it together at Warwick Farm last time, leading throughout and was a dominant winner, landing some good bets in the process. Proven on wet ground, lands on speed, hard to beat.
4 Satirical Glory (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) is a handy animal for John Sargent. Resumed on the Kenso track when not getting the clearest of paths in the straight but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind Cape Breton. Reckon he might want one more, but he does find a winnable Midway.
Race 2. (12:55) Reisling Stakes 1200m
7 Greece (Bet Now: $3.50 TOP ODDS) needs to win to get into the Slipper. She’s the hype horse leading in and I think it is noteworthy that the Maher/Eustace camp could have easily run Coolangatta here but want to give Greece her chance to qualify for the big dance in two weeks time. Her trials have been outstanding. The mum, Maastricht, was okay on wet ground without jumping up and down, but she looks classy.
1 Russian Conquest (Bet Now: $1.95 TOP ODDS) is a real query on a truly wet track given her sire, Russian Revolution, was much better on top of the ground, but she is one of the better juveniles we’ve seen this season, her last run being a close up second to Coolangatta in the Magic Millions. If she handles the track, she’ll take beating.
8 Stuck In A Dream (Bet Now: $67.00 TOP ODDS) looks suited up in trip. Debuted for Kacy Fogden over 1000m at the Sunny Coast and caught the eye from off the speed when second to impressive winner Whistling Spirit. Bred to be okay on wet ground and Clipperton is a jockey riding well.
Race 3. (13:30) Todman Stakes 1200m
1 Sejardan (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) is a horse I still have high up in the mix for the Golden Slipper. Beaten in the Inglis Millennium but far from disgraced after sitting wide no cover for the trip, just feeling the pinch late but still a good effort. You’d like to think that run will bring him on and he is bred to eat up the ground.
7 Showcourt (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) is bred to eat up a wet track and has the C Waller/J Mac combo. Debuted over this trip at Canterbury and I thought he was very good late in the piece behind Psychiatrist. He’s bred to eat up the ground, he’ll be strong at the end and has upside to come.
This might be all too soon for 5 Boyfriend (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS), but I think he has talent. He comes through the Silver Slipper when back in the run and chasing, but didn’t mind the way he picked up late behind Best Of Bordeaux. The wet track should be fine and I think he’ll be strong at the end.
Race 4. (14:05) Randwick City Stakes 2000m
Chris Waller wins the race. Just a matter of deciding which one. I think you have to side with 11 No Compromise (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS). He should have just about won the Parramatta Cup two weeks ago. He was given absolutely zero by Jay Ford but absolutely savaged the line when clear to run second. Normal luck here and I think he wins and confirms a crack towards the Sydney Cup.
4 Mightybeel (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) has come back in super order. His late splits were great fresh here behind Frosty Rocks. He then went to the Parramatta Cup where he was fair dinkum jogging on the turn. Just a matter of Tommy pushing the button and once he did, the horse exploded and spanked them. Has to be respected.
6 Luncies (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) looks the horse from this race that I think we’ll be talking about as a Sydney Cup candidate. He resumed behind Frosty Rocks and his run was a beauty, closing off with real purpose late between runners. Two time second up winner and getting to a more suitable trip, he’ll take beating.
Race 5. (14:40) Challenge Stakes 1000m
He’s a star 1 Nature Strip (Bet Now: $1.55). Should have won the Lightning but unfortunately he was just that little bit tardy to begin, then was the meat in the sandwich between Profiteer and Eduardo. Enormous effort to get as close as he did. He gets his conditions to suit, fitter, he’ll take a power of beating.
2 Eduardo (Bet Now: $2.50) does have the wood over Nature Strip when it comes to 1000m, and he is a swimmer, a proper swimmer, so he’s right in the game. He tried his guts out in the Lightning but I think the run confirmed that the straight course and a rock hard surface isn’t his liking, finishing a held third. He’ll give his all.
6 Shelby Sixtysix (Bet Now: $61.00) lapped up the mud when winning last Saturday in a Highway here. Ridden a treat by Pike, he was there to strike and put them away, and that he did. Clearly, he won’t be beating the first two, but third spot is up for grabs and wouldn’t shock me if he got it.
Race 6. (15:20) Fireball Stakes 1100m
12 A Very Fine Red (Bet Now: $14.00) is a quality filly for Mark Newnham that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since Oaks Day down the straight at Flemington where she was a good thing beaten, just having no luck in the straight when full of running. Good fresh record and her trials leading in have been quite encouraging.
The truly wet track is a slight concern with 3 Mazu (Bet Now: $3.20) but he looks to have class and then some. Arrogant first up win at Rosehill with the big weight, helped by an absolute peach from Sam Clipperton. A win here and you’d almost think he’s in the mix for a crack at The Galaxy. Hard to beat.
6 Dragonstone (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Mark Newnham trained three year old that has got a decent engine under the hood. Had the beaut run behind the speed on the Kenso track last time and it was just a case of Tyler Schiller pushing the button. Once he did, it was race over. Harder here, but confident he measures up off the back of a lovely trial.
Race 7. (16:00) Canterbury Stakes 1300m
10 Lighthouse (Bet Now: $4.50) is the hard fit/in form horse who just maps to get the A1 run in transit. Former American mare who has done little wrong in Australia, and she did bolt up at her Australian debut on a quagmire track at Kyneton. Ran a beauty in the CF Orr and she maps to get run of the race, and now gets J Mac. Hard to beat.
8 Laws Of Indices (Bet Now: $6.00) is ticking along beautifully for Annabel Neasham. Resumed in the Southern Cross and just had a bit too much to do, but liked the way he finished his race off behind Lost And Running. He has eyes on the Doncaster, so not sure WFA suits him, but he’ll be strong late.
7 Dice Roll (Bet Now: $21.00) is a big watch. Nick Ryan trained gelding that resumes after a frustrating Spring. Went within a lip of winning the Rupert Clarke and that was his chance I thought to win a big one because 1600m is a bridge too far IMO. 1200m-1400m is his go in life. He’ll be strong late.
Race 8. (16:40) Randwick Guineas 1600m
1 Anamoe (Bet Now: $2.00) is the one they have to beat, but I will say I don’t think he’s anywhere near his best when racing on wet ground. Class got him home in the Hobartville IMO, helped by a 12/10 by Tommy Berry. If this track was a firm surface, he’d be a genuine $1.50 chance. The wet track brings the others closer to him, but I still think he gets home on class.
10 War Eternal (Bet Now: $13.00) is certainly in the mix as a knockout chance. I thought he was a definite pass mark fresh in the Eskimo Prince behind Paulele. He then dropped back to benchmark company where he was trucking in the run and once Collett clicked him up, away he went and he was dominant. Wouldn’t shock me if he won.
12 Sinba (Bet Now: $31.00) is the one from proper left field I like. He is a dead set line chaser this guy. Loved the way he found the line to win fresh at Newcastle and he was even better on the Kenso track last time. I think he’s a serious animal and wouldn’t shock me at all if he won.
Race 9. (17:20) Aspiration Qlty 1600m
7 Le Gai Soleil (Bet Now: $2.80) is a query at the 1600m I feel but gee it was hard not to be impressed by her first up win here three weeks ago. Sat back off the good speed before McEvoy revved her up to get clear air and the change up speed she produced was something else in a dominant win. If the 1600m box is ticked, I think she wins.
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 8 Le Lude (Bet Now: $4.40), who resumed in the Millie Fox two weeks ago. Race shape was against her but liked the way she finished off in defeat behind Expat. She loves getting her toe in and I think the rise to the mile is ideal.
1 Polly Grey (Bet Now: $5.00) is a beauty for Chris Waller. She has been given a mini spell, having not raced since the Summer Cup here on Boxing Day when a gallant third to Parry Sound, beaten less than a length. She loves getting her toe in and I thought her trial last week at Rosehill wasn’t a bad piece of work.
Race 10. (17:55) Wenona Girl Qlty 1200m
10 Never Talk (Bet Now: $2.60) saves her best for wet ground so she gets conditions to suit to be dangerous. Resumed two weeks back at Rosehill and I thought she closed her race off quite well when third to impressive winner and the very much in form Rule Of Law. Back to Mares grade, fitter, she’ll take beating.
6 Tricky Gal (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Matty Smith trained mare that resumes. Talented horse that loves wet ground and is a bomb fresh horse, so she does get conditions to suit, and I’d say is quite well in at the weights. Trialled well leading in and from an okay draw, depending on the track plays, she’ll only run well.
12 Joviality (Bet Now: $8.00) has race fitness on her side and has winning form. Lumped 59kg to win here last time out, albeit it was a pretty thin race and she just got there, but the first up run was a beauty and she tumbles in weight here, plus likes wet ground, so I think she’s in the mix.
