The two day Wagga Carnival kicks off on Thursday, where it is Wagga Town Plate Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Wagga Town Plate ๐: View the Field and Odds for the Wagga Town Plate
Race 1. (12:30) Audi Centre Wagga Hcp 1200m
10 Shirvo (Bet Now:ย $2.40) looks the map horse in the opener. Ryan/Alexiou trained colt that is hard fit now and should get a suck run behind the speed. He got that at Canterbury last start and battled away pretty well in defeat behind a handy one, Resonator. Should stalk Command Approved and get last look.
13 Opito Ballerina (Bet Now:ย $4.20) is a Bjorn Baker filly that debuted in a handy race at Bathurst. Market wanted her late and it almost got there, just missing out on the win when a narrow second in a driving finish. Had trialled well leading in and with the scratchings, the map is okay.
6 Diamond Flyer (Bet Now:ย $7.50) is in the mix for Paul Murray. Debuted in the prelude to this race a couple of weeks back where the market said it would be a prep run for him, blowing right out in betting, and he somewhat defied that with a close up third to Rebel Rosai, a stablemate. Think there is improvement with this guy.
Race 2. (13:05) Nsw Racehorse Owners Assoc Mdn 1400m
1 Lawyer’s Delight (Bet Now:ย $5.00) on top. Kurt Goldman trains and he loves to target this Carnival. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since October 1 at Moruya when midfield over the mile. Been given a really good break and closed off nicely in a trial on the Riverside track here. T Berry booked, I think there is intent.
2 Blueskin (Bet Now:ย $2.60) will need luck from the gate but he has the talent. His last couple of runs have come over 1200m, the latest at Newcastle when warming to the task late in a good effort behind Emerald’s Son, beaten narrowly. Hard to beat if he can get luck from the draw for a stable who are happy to travel for a win.
I doubt 12 Sledge (Bet Now:ย $51.00) wins, but for wdier multiples, I could entertain her. Debuted over 1175m at Albury where she got a mile out of her ground and was never really a winning threat, but liked the way she finished her race off behind Rosie’s Gift. Up to 1400m I like, draws soft and should be strong late.
Race 3. (13:40) Wagga Workwear Mdn Hcp 1000m
Pretty keen here on 16 Protostar (Bet Now:ย $2.90) for Team Freedman. He comes back to 1000m after racing over 1200m at Newcastle where he seemed to get every chance near the speed. Just couldn’t quite finish the race off but was solid in defeat. Fresh legs back to the five furlongs and Blinkers first time with T Berry, he’s here to rock and roll.
11 Shoo Shoo Shoo (Bet Now:ย $7.50) is a key threat. Just missed out on the win fresh over 900m at Scone. She then went to 1100m at Nowra and I thought was there to win. Just couldn’t quite finish the race off when fourth. I reckon back to 1000m is a big tick and gets run of the race from the draw.
7 St Wolfgang (Bet Now:ย $17.00) is a Gary Colvin trained three year old that is on debut. He’s had one public trial to get ready for start one, winning on the Riverside track here when bolting up and running pretty solid time. Draws wide, but think he has talent and you’d assume home carnival, the stable has him wound up.
Race 4. (14:15) Devcore Property Group (Bm66) 1600m
Kitchen sink with 2 Bluestone Lane (Bet Now:ย $3.20) it seems like. Richard Pegum has purchaed the horse, he’s a local…this just looks a complete set up. The unknown is the mile but gate one and T Berry booked, it’s a great set up, and his runs in Australia from Singapore have been quite good. He’s clearly the one to beat, if gate one is used to advantage.
3 Mookareena (Bet Now:ย $6.50) is a hard horse to catch but she is capable when right, as seen when strong all the way winner at Canberra last start, beating Mercury, who was an impressive winner last Friday at Muswellbrook, so the form reads well and on speed, she’ll give a bold sight.
8 Denmiss (Bet Now:ย $12.00) is dangerous if the inside gate can be used. Dragged back from a wide gate at Wellington last start and was never really a factor, but liked the way he finished her race off. The inside gate should hopefully see her sit closer in the run and at double figures, I could happily speck.
Race 5. (15:00) Budget Car And Truck Rental-C1 1600m
4 Pending (Bet Now:ย $18.00) is big odds here I feel and at the odds, happy to back each way. Was a few weeks between runs when racing over the mile at Canberra. He got badly held up at a vital stage but liked the way he finished the race when clear. Clear air from the outset this time around with the wide gate and will be strong late.
Purely on form, 5 Taraashoq (Bet Now:ย $2.60) is $1.10. Go back to his second career start, he can at Leicester and was beaten just under five lenghts by Baaeed, a world class horse. I’m just turned off by his Randwick trial. It was plain to my eye. The form is the reason why he’s so short. He’s hard to beat, but can’t dive in.
11 Cider Bite (Bet Now:ย $26.00) is in with a shout. Joseph/Jones trained galloper that ran over the mile at Canberra last time out where he got a fair way back in the run and was never really a threat, but really liked the way he finished his race off. If within range, could well finish over the top.
Race 6. (15:40) The Daily Advertiser (Bm66) 2000m
5 Zudin (Bet Now:ย $26.00) is worth a throw at the stumps at a big price. He has had a couple of runs for Lauri Parker, resuming with a down the track effort at Newcastle. He then went to the Murrumbidgee Cup, trying to get into the Wagga Cup, and got back. Made up some headway but never threatened. Hard fit now, he’s got the form from last prep to give this a shake at big odds.
1 Zounique (Bet Now:ย $3.90) is a key threat. He also comes through the Murrumbidgee Cup where he tried his guts out and was only pipped late by an in form Roman. He was a few weeks between runs and with the claim for Anna Roper, 4kg off, this guy is hard to beat I’d suggest.
2 Vallauris (Bet Now:ย $7.00) should appreciate a rise to 2000m. He ran over 1700m in the Gundagai Cup last start where he got a fair way out of his ground and never threatened, but liked the way he finished his race off behind Prince Of Helena. Up to 2000m, bigger track, he’s in with a shout.
Race 7. (16:20) Iron Jack 2022 Town Plate 1200m
10 Another One (Bet Now:ย $4.00) will need luck from the gate, but if he’s within range 400m out, he’s the one they have to beat. 12/10 ride from Heywood saw him win the Country Championships Final at Randwick, driving hard late to win and win well. Fast run 1200m suits and he’ll launch late. $3.90 opening price is too short. I’d want $5+.
9 Soami (Bet Now:ย $15.00) will love a fast run 1200m. He ran in a strong 88 at Randwick three weeks ago and finished off hard nearer the inside, running a game second to Much Much Better. He was suited by the pattern, but he was way out of grade on paper, so the run had merit. Fast run 1200m, he’ll be strong late.
11 Cuban Royale (Bet Now:ย $34.00) is a beauty for Team Price that is around the mark more often than not in these kind of races. Sat on speed last start at Warwick Farm and I don’t think that sort of ride suits him. Quickly headed but stuck on well for third. I think he’ll be more effective with a patient steer.
Race 8. (16:55) Adam Hagan Memorial Hcp (C2) 1400m
4 Mascherata (Bet Now:ย $6.00) each way for me in the get out. Her last couple of runs have come over 1200m at Canberra, the latest seeing her launch late to just miss out on picking up Circularity, who has talent on his day. She should love the rise to 1400m and T Berry aboard, she’ll do me at around double figures.
12 Twig (Bet Now:ย $4.80) should prove hard to beat for Matty Dale. Ran over 1300m on the home track at Canberra last start, finishing off with purpose from off the speed after sitting wide no cover, just missing out on the win in a run that was full of merit. 1400m looks fine and Blinkers first time, she commands respect.
9 How Do You Sleep (Bet Now:ย $7.00) is a little query at 1400m but soft gate and Blinkers off will give him every chance to see out the seven furlongs. Raced over the trip at Canberra last start and looked all over a winner when presented, but couldn’t quite finish it off, settling for third. Dominant win the start prior, he’s a winning chance.
