Race 1. (12:55) Xxxx (bm78) 2400m
2 Fortified (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) for me. Chris Waller trained galloper that ran last Wednesday at Canterbury. Not sure he was suited on the tight track but liked the way he picked up and was good late I thought when third to stablemate Zudin. The rise to 2400m I like for him and the big tick is Magorrian riding. He’s a strong rider and won’t take any BS.
4 Suppression (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. He ran over 2000m at Mornington last time out where he looked a good thing on paper and under Thornton, the gelding was far too good and was dominant. Up to 2400m no issue and is in the right camp.
7 Arabolini (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) will put himself on speed and look to give his all. I was keen on him last start in the Cessnock Cup at Newcastle and I thought Penza just waited a bit too long to push the button. He seems to be a horse who thrives on rolling in front at the same speed. With only 51.5kg on his back, he’ll take catching.
Race 2. (13:35) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1500m
I want to give 10 Lucky Banner (Bet Now: $21.00 TOP ODDS) a chance. She was backed with confidence last start at Gosford but she didn’t get any luck in the straight and I reckon with clear air, she goes close behind Sian. That looked a tidy 64 at Provincial level, so I think that reads well for this.
7 So Say You (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) has an awful racing pattern but she’s honest and has a strong trainer/jockey combo for these kind of races. Ran in a 1600m Highway four weeks ago and worked home well from the back when a close up fourth to Lord Desanimaux. If she’s within range on the turn, she can win.
1 Point Counterpoint (Bet Now: $34.00 TOP ODDS) is a handy four year old for Stirling Osland that resumes. He is a 2000m+ horse, but resuming in a Highway with Blinkers on, that tells me there is some level of intent for his resumption. He might need the run, but I’d watch the market.
Race 3. (14:15) Mates In Construction (bm78) 1800m
3 Jazzland (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) should be suited up to 1800m for the very much in form Kristen Buchanan. Both runs back from a break have come over the mile, the latest being at Warwick Farm when a game second to Milk Man. Has won up to 2100m so 1800m here should be fine and the stable is in a purple patch.
1 Mayfair Spirit (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) has done a really good job this time in for the Maher/Eustace camp. He did work to get on speed at Randwick two weeks ago and was entitled to drop away but he kept finding under pressure and was game in defeat when second to impressive winner Ruby Tuesday. Think that form reads well for this.
2 Prompt Prodigy (Bet Now: $21.00 TOP ODDS) creates interest. Ed Cummings trained galloper that hasn’t raced since October 2 over the mile when wide wide cover and failing to finish it off behind Wairere Falls in what looked a strong 88. Fresh legs, back to 78 grade, an improved showing is on the cards.
Race 4. (14:55) Petaluma (bm78) 1100m
4 Seleque (Bet Now: $2.90 TOP ODDS) is a talented mare for Chris Waller that resumes. Hasn’t raced since August 25 when back off the speed and closed off pretty well without threatening behind Calgary Queen. That form does read pretty well. One soft trial leading in, but she has talent, so watch the market.
2 Undeniable (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is a beauty for Matty Smith who is honest and should be around the mark. Ran in a Midway two weeks ago at Randwick and didn’t stop chasing in a good effort over 1200m when second to Pandora Blue. Like her back to Mares grade, back to 1100m, she appeals.
3 Amiche (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with David Vandyke, she now finds herself with Edward Cummings. Hasn’t raced since April 10 when a game third to then in form Fender, who was heading towards the Brisbane Winter Carnival, so that form reads strong. Two trials back in Queensland to get ready, watch the market.
Race 5. (15:35) Country Classic 2000m
The draw is ordinary for 17 Kermatin (Bet Now: $8.00), but she has 2000m written all over her. Keith Dryden trained mare that ran over 1800m at Hawkesbury last time out. Just took a little bit too long to get clear, but once she did, she surged hard late to just miss. Eats up the extra trip and will be strong late.
2 Dream Runner (Bet Now: $3.20) is a model of consistency for Keith Dryden who is a proven Highway performer and last start was good at midweek metro level, so he’s a deserving favourite. He tried hard last start on the Kenso track and battled on really well when second to Mightybeel. Run of the race from the gate and is hard to beat.
10 Five Kingdom (Bet Now: $7.00) is sneaky flying for Matty Dale. All three runs this prep have come in Saturday metro races and each time, he has caught the eye and looked like a horse that wants more ground. Had he drawn soft, he’d just about be favourite and at double figures, I could still back him.
Race 6. (16:10) Midway (bm72) 1300m
The seven day back up I find interesting with 7 Bowery Breeze (Bet Now: $9.50), but her run last Saturday was a beauty. Visually, it was an okay run, but sectionals wise, she produced some of the best late splits of the meeting. Hopefully won’t be far away from the inside gate and I think can only run well.
Kristen Buchanan is becoming the Matty Dunn of Midways. She is just winning them for fun at the moment and won it a fortnight back with 4 Pandora Blue (Bet Now: $2.70), who was dominant from near the speed and was strong late, so the extra 100m no issue and is hard to beat.
I’ll take a chance with the Annabel Neasham trained three year old 11 Ghostwriter (Bet Now: $21.00). This guy hasn’t raced since the Gold Coast Magic Millions where he found the class a bit rich. Dodged the Autumn and a fair chunk of the Spring. Trialled well leading in and finds a winnable race I say.
Race 7. (16:50) Golden Gift 1100m
I like 2 Nobel (Bet Now: $7.50) here. I don’t think it was much of a race at the Valley on Cox Plate Day, the Inglis Banner, and I don’t think he was 100% happy on the track, but liked the way he finished his race off when third. Bigger track, better for the run, he has the talent I think to measure up here.
1 Sejarden (Bet Now: $4.00) comes here several weeks between runs since an impressive win, taking out the Breeders Plate. Admittedly the time was slow compared to the Gimcrack, but what I liked about the win was that he relaxed with cover and took narrow gaps, something that is always a positive for an early juvenile. Hard to beat.
3 Contemporary (Bet Now: $13.00) deserves another chance. I thought he was hard to beat two weeks back at Randwick but when let down by McEvoy, he didn’t find much and was pretty plain I thought behind Ojai. Think fitter and a rise to 1100m, he can bounce back against this lot.
Race 8. (17:25) Hot Danish Stakes 1400m
3 Nudge (Bet Now: $5.00) is hard to beat. Backing up from two weeks ago in The Invitation at Randwick. She wouldn’t have won, but should have finished much closer, getting little luck in the straight. To the line and through it, she was excellent. Fitter, with upside to come, her best is certainly good enough.
6 Tricky Gal (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Matty Smith trained mare that also comes through The Invitation where she had little luck in the straight and clearly should have finished closer behind Icebath, who ran so well in the Cantala last Saturday, so the form has been ticked off and this mare has a liking for Rosehill. Hard to beat.
5 Yamazaki (Bet Now: $11.00) is going well for Matty Dunn. Hailed as the winner last start at Randwick over 1400m but was nabbed late by talented four year old Exoboom. 1400m is the acid test for her and I just think it sees her out, but if this becomes a sit/sprint, she has the turn of foot.
Race 9. (18:10) Bisley Workwear (bm78) 1200m
5 Kinloch (Bet Now: $6.00) is big odds here for a horse who has raced at Saturday level in both runs back from a break. Game third to Leo fresh. Then raced two weeks ago where he bombed the start but closed off well nearer the inside behind Quantico. Should get three wide cover and launch late.
4 Blaze A Trail (Bet Now: $3.90) is a fascinating runner. Talented four year old for the Maher/Eustace team that resumes. He has been a bit hit and miss throughout his career, but when he is switched on, he’s Saturday class for sure, borderline Stakes class. Now with a new camp, his trials leading in have been quite encouraging.
I doubt 11 Nictock (Bet Now: $21.00) will win but he can fill a first four spot. Ran in a Midway two weeks back at Randwick and didn’t disgrace himself from near the speed behind impressive winner Pandora Blue. He’ll land in the first few here and run his usual honest race. First four contender.
Race 10. (18:45) Chandon Garden Spritz (bm78) 1400m
3 Suave (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented animal for James Cummings that should prove hard to beat here. Ran over 1400m at Randwick three weeks ago. Held up for a couple of strides and it did cost him momentum but he was no match for Promise Of Success, a Stakes class mare IMO. That form reads well for this.
7 Blesk (Bet Now: $3.80) has been excellent in two runs back from a break, both runs being on the Kenso track. Resumed with a narrow second before being given a peach by McEvoy when stepping up to 1300m and getting the job done in impressive fashion. The rise to 1400m looks hard and hard to knock the way he’s returned.
8 Media Starguest (Bet Now: $11.00) looks to have returned in good order. Resumed two weeks back in a Midway at Randwick when wide throughout but kept finding the line and was quite good in defeat when third to impressive winner Pandora Blue. Like him up in trip and is a definite winning threat.
