The two day Wagga Carnival concludes on Friday, headlined by the Wagga Wagga Gold Cup (2000m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Wagga Cup ๐: View the Field and Odds for the Wagga Cup
Race 1. (12:35) Toyota Forklifts Hcp (C3) 1000m
5 Devine Miss (Bet Now:ย $3.10) has done little wrong in a five start career for Norm Gardner. Both runs this time in have come at Canberra, winning fresh during the Black Opal Carnival before stepping up to 1200m when on speed and tried her guts out when a narrow second in a good rating race. Back to 1000m I love and with a more patient steer, she’ll be more effective.
8 London Gal (Bet Now:ย $6.00) is a ripping mare for Scott Collings that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since December 24 at Wagga when on speed and tried her guts out, as she always does, just getting pipped late by a then in form Tulla Park. Resumes without a trial but gate one, 1000m, she’s hard to beat.
7 Harley Street (Bet Now:ย $12.00) has done a pretty good job for Nat Jarvis since coming from Team Freedman. Put together a couple of wins on the bounce before going to Goulburn where the track was too wet when down the track behind Pretty Woman. Back on firmer footing, an improved showing is on the cards.
Race 2. (13:10) Wagga Rsl Club Country Mdn 1200m
14 Smokin’ Cod (Bet Now:ย $3.10) looks the one to beat. It’s getting to that time of year where the two year olds take on the older horses and we know from a punting perspective that formula is gold. Debuted over 1000m here and savaged the line from the back when a close up fourth, and she would have won in another 20m. Up to 1200m, if she’s within range, she wins.
15 Kappy’s Angel (Bet Now:ย $3.60) is a Gary Colvin trained mare that is on debut and I think can be quite dangerous. She’s only had one public trial to get ready for start one, bolting up on the Riverside track and looking to go about her business quite nicely. Keen to see how she goes.
I doubt 2 Brilliant Speed (Bet Now:ย $19.00) wins but could pinch a first four spot. He ran over 1300m here last time out when just off the speed and battled away okay when fourth. Blinkers are back on and back to firmer footing from a soft gate, he’s one I can entertain for multiples.
Race 3. (13:50) Walsh & Blair Country (Bm74) 1200m
7 Miss Kirribilli (Bet Now:ย $4.40) looks a filly with good talent. Tim Donnelly trained three year old that debuted over 1000m here where she got the front and was trucking on speed before being clicked up and away she went for a dominant win. Given a quiet tick over trial and despite drawing wide, I think 1200m is fine and gets T Berry for connections that love to win during this Carnival.
3 Our Last Cash (Bet Now:ย $3.60) is the horse that will appreciate a truly run 1200m. Resumed in a maiden at this track/distance where he made an absolute mess of them from off the speed, producing good late splits in the process. If they overdo it in front, he’ll be strong at the end.
14 Irish Dancer (Bet Now:ย $26.00) is a knockout chance. Contested the Queen Of The South Prelude here last start where it was a race set up for swoopers, so her finale was somewhat flattered, but the run was still good behind Stand Your Ground. Back to Class 1 company, she’s in the mix.
Race 4. (14:25) Inglis Rural Property (Bm58) 1300m
11 Vaaroom (Bet Now:ย $3.20) to produce sustaiend speed from the front. Took a little while to break the maiden tag but he did it last start and did it in spades, bolting up from the front in a strong effort. This isn’t a strong 58 on paper, so think he can slide forward and take a power of beating.
9 Son Of Bielski (Bet Now:ย $7.50) has a horror draw of late but brings the Victorian form, which usually stands up in this part of the world. Last couple of runs have come over 1400m, the latest at Ballarat when back and making ground behind El Santo. If he gets luck from the gate, he’ll be around the mark.
3 Unique Prince (Bet Now:ย $9.00) is a son of Shaft for Matty Dale that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since December 24 when wide no cover here and tiring late in a forgive. Just one trial to get ready for his return but another that would appreciate a solid tempo to launch at them.
Race 5. (15:05) Jrc Electrical Services (Bm74) 1600m
6 Manderboss (Bet Now:ย $6.00) on top. Joseph/Jones trained three year old that comes into this off the back of a Prelude win where he produced an electric finale to win, producing the best L200m of the race/meeting. Off that, he’ll eat up a mile and should prove hard to beat.
4 Publicist (Bet Now:ย $4.80) is a WaterBott three year old that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since March 10 at Canterbury on testing ground when failing to handle the conditions. 57 days between runs with a tick over trial, it’ll be a good training effort, but is certainly in the right camp.
11 Calmer Karma (Bet Now:ย $8.50) is a progressive three year old for Bruce Cross that should appreciate the rise to the mile. He comes through the Prelude where he got back in the run and made up solid ground nearer the inside behind Manderboss. Doubt he turns the tables, but one for exotics.
Race 6. (15:40) Byrne Trailers 2022 (Bm66) 1400m
3 Fourmadec (Bet Now:ย $4.00) just has to hold her form to be hard to beat here. Ran in a Highwaw at Randwick last start on an absolute bottomless and she was nearer the inside, which was no good, so the run had plenty of merit when third to Mr Hussill. If that hasn’t busted her, she’s the one.
2 Too Much Lippy (Bet Now:ย $5.00) has returned in pretty good order for the Ryan/Alexiou camp. Resumed on a very testing track at Canterbury track and battled away pretty well in defeat when third to Mosht Up. Only had one soft trial leading, so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.
8 Stand Your Ground (Bet Now:ย $10.00) is hit and miss but she has a booming finish on her, as seen when winning the Prelude of this race last start. She appreciated a genuine tempo and getting to the outside with clear air to let down and boy did she, landing good bets as well. Likely sits near last in the run but will launch late.
Race 7. (16:20) Wagga Cup 2000m
4 Brutality (Bet Now:ย $8.50) is right in the mix. On the back up for Joe Pride after racing in the Hawkesbury Cup last Saturday where he got a fair way out of his ground but loved the way he closed off behind Kirwan’s Lane. He eats the back up for breakfast and up to 2000m is a big tick. Leading chance.
10 Ain’tnodeeldun (Bet Now:ย $3.90) is getting close to D-Day. Race wasn’t run to suit at Caulfield two weeks ago behind Grandslam, with that horse getting complete control in front and giving nothing else a look in. He hasn’t recaptured his 3YO form, but is getting towards peak fitness and finds a winnable race.
Josh Richards rides front runners as good as most, and he steers 8 Five Kingdom (Bet Now:ย $8.50), who should get control in front. That’s what he got at Caulfield last start and it took an in form Deepstrike (won since) to nab him late. Home track for Richards, he’d love to win it, and he’ll give this horse every chance on speed.
Race 8. (16:55) Gallagher Insurance Brokers-C1 1200m
7 Fangela (Bet Now:ย $5.50) is a straight bat option in the get out. Keith Dryden trained gelding that ran on his home track at Canberra last time out and I think you could easily make a case to say he goes close to winning with clear air instead of a luckless second in a solid Federal. He’ll do me here.
17 Important Product (Bet Now:ย $9.50) is a Kurt Goldman trained gelding that comes here with fresh legs. He hasn’t raced since March 13 at Canberra when back in the run and making up solid ground late behind Cavalier Charles, who has since gone on with it, so the form reads well, and his tick over trial win was a good piece of work.
2 Forever Newyork (Bet Now:ย $15.00) can be an improver at odds for Gary Colvin. He resumed at this track/distance in teh Town Plate Prelude where he was caught four and five wide the trip in a total forgive. Tricky draw again, but if he gets better luck, his best can threaten.
