5 Detoron (Bet Now: $2.50) could well be camera shy but she can be camera shy and still win this I feel. She ran in a 2400m maiden last time at Swan Hill and looked all over the winner when she presented but just found one better in Torbello. Back to 2000m, hard fit and in form…she gets a great chance to break the maiden tag.

Danger

8 Call Me Rhonda (Bet Now: $2.25) is a Jarrod Robinson trained filly that could be heading to the Oaks but first she needs to do something here. Did a good job here on debut before going to the Oaks Trial at Flemington when wide no cover and tired late to finish down the track. Better run in transit, she can win.

Long Shot

1 Mr George (Bet Now: $5.50) is a knockout hope. He was 1550m to 2050m when racing at Strathalbyn last time out. He got back off the speed and kept whacking away without really threatening behind Mandino, who would be $1.10 against these, so that reads well enough and he should be better for the last start under the belt.

5 Saxon Blood (Bet Now: $2.70) on top for me. Team McEvoy trained gelding that debuted at Warrnambool where the market drift late suggested he may need the run and that’s how it panned out, though I am not sure he was 100% happy on the wet track. Firmer footing here, he can run a much improved race in what looks a thin maiden.

Danger

4 Gin Rummy (Bet Now: $3.10) is knocking on the door to break the maiden tag. He has caught the eye in both career outings, firstly on debut at Morphettville before going to Murray Bridge where he got back to near last in the run and worked home with purpose. Like him up to 1400m and is one of the hardest to beat.

Long Shot

1 Dartboard (Bet Now: $4.00) has had a host of chances to break the maiden tag but that said, he is racing really well. His last run was Aug 17 at Katherine in the NT when second, his third runner up effort on the bounce. That was over 1700m so fresh legs and back to 1400m, he’ll be strong late and is a knockout hope.

7 Ravenite (Bet Now: $1.90) is bursting to win his maiden and I think he gets a great chance here. Kennewell/Yeomans trained gelding that ran over 1100m here last time out when on speed and he looked to be trucking before being clicked up and he looked the winner when he presented but had to settle for a second to Victoris. He has the runs on the board and strikes a winnable race.

Danger

1 Cavil Tycoon (Bet Now: $2.30) commands respect. Team Payne trained gelding that debuted over 1200m when holding a forward spot on speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to If I Was You. Freshened up and a recent tick over trial was a pretty good piece of work.

Long Shot

2 Joviale (Bet Now: $7.00) is an improving type for Stuart Padman. He ran over 1000m at Morphettville Parks just over two weeks back where he got to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line in a good return. If he’s within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.

Race 4. (14:20) Sunraysia Daily Mdn Plate 1000m

3 Finance Shogun (Bet Now: $3.60) is a son of Deep Field that is on debut for Smiley Chan. This guy trialled a few weeks ago at Cranbourne and seemed to move well enough to my eye when a close up second in a 1000m trial. The depth here isn’t overly deep and the stable can place them to advantage. One of the leading contenders.

Danger

8 Miss De Lune (Bet Now: $11.00) creates interest. Formerly with John Keys in Tassie, she now finds herself with Team Payne. She didn’t set the world on fire in three runs but last run, she did contest the Tassie Thousand Guineas behind Wings Of Song. Trial work has been strong, watch the market.

Long Shot

10 Reward The Sheriff (Bet Now: $6.50) is an improving type for Nathan Hobson. He debuted over 975m at Swan Hill when unwanted in betting and while the market got it right, he didn’t win, he was far from disgraced in defeat when fourth. Better for the run under the belt, he can win for sure.

Race 5. (14:55) Melbourne Cup Day In Mildura (Bm58) 1000m

4 Kova (Bet Now: $5.50) seems the straight bat option in what looks an open contest. Team Cahill trained mare that ran at Mindarie-Halidon last time out when just off the speed and presented to win when clear but couldn’t quite finish the race off behind Zufasta. Finds a winnable race here, maps okay, happy to be in her corner.

Danger

7 Shikanic (Bet Now: $4.00) brings solid enough form from SA for Peter Nolan. He ran at Morphettville Parks just over two weeks ago when getting a suck run in transit just off the speed and tried hard but lacked the finale to go with them late behind Old Time Rock. Back to this level, he rates highly despite the tricky gate.

Long Shot

2 The Last Judgement (Bet Now: $8.00) has a good track/distance record and with that in mind, he’s a winning threat. He was never really a factor at Echuca last time out but I will say the depth there was far deeper than what he face here. If he can find a spot on speed, he’s good enough.

Race 6. (15:30) Cup Day Packages On Sale (Bm58) 2000m

1 Tewkesbury (Bet Now: $1.80) looks to have a bit on these. Team McEvoy trains this gelding, who is finding it hard to win but that said, is racing really well at present. He ran over 2000m at Ballarat when off the speed but tracked up and loomed but couldn’t quite get there when second to Queen Takes King. Looked hard to beat at The Valley on Friday night so running here, I think good luck beating him.

Danger

2 Badonkidonk (Bet Now: $8.00) is the only horse I could consider a threat. Needed the run fresh behind Silent Don before going to 2250m at Morphettville Parks when ridden with a bit more intent and I thought ran a much improved race in defeat behind Lottaroc. Hard fit now, ideal map…he can win if Tewkesbury decides to turn it up.

Long Shot

4 Bannerton (Bet Now: $13.00) saves his best for this track/distance so he has to be given respect as a first four contender. He ran over the mile at Swan Hill last time out where he got back off the speed and did make up some headway but was never really threatening. Better set up here, he’s an improver at odds.

Race 7. (16:10) Bet365 (Bm58) 1400m

6 Zebedee Springs (Bet Now: $3.30) looks the second of two good things on the card and indeed in the Quaddie. Team Payne trained mare that ran over 1300m at Wodonga last time out where she got off speed before looming wide, with clear air, but found a couple better when third to Copperfield. Like her up in trip and the depth here is on the thin side.

Danger

2 Play On Words (Bet Now: $7.50) will jump on the bunny and take running down. This gelding was a very strong on speed winner at Tatura last start, leading and copping heat. Credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and win. If he leads and gets some form of control, he’ll be hard to run down.

Long Shot

5 Tatsuro (Bet Now: $19.00) resumes for Austy Coffey and his best is certainly good enough to run well fresh. His last run came on June 28 at Warracknabeal over 2000m when fourth to Matthew Mark. Better suited over further, likely gets back to near last but should be strong at the end.

2 Lescot (Bet Now: $5.00) is the way I am leaning in the get out. Jarrod Robinson trained gelding that ran over this track/distance last time out where he got off speed and was trucking into the race before finding clear air and was good late when second. Tricky gate, but with a drag into the race, he’ll take beating.

Danger

1 Abdication (Bet Now: $2.00) is the key threat. He comes through an 1100m race at Wodonga when driving hard late but just missed out on the win when a narrow second to Fully Calculated. Racing like 1200m suits and looks to have found a very winnable race for mine.

Long Shot

3 Marnoo (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Brady Cross trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since April 14 at Terang when too bad to be true, finishing over ten lengths away from Eugenius. He showed good promise prior to that so I say watch the market and see what it does.
