SA metro racing on Saturday heads to Murray Bridge for a nine race card. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out four metres from the 2000m-1700m; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:17) Magic Millions (bm76) 1000m
5 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $7.50) is three weeks between runs for David Jolly since resuming on the Parks track. Tracked up and loomed large to win 100m out, but his condition just gave way late when fourth to Star Hills. Looking for firmer footing and he should be getting it here. Hard to beat.
7 Huffington (Bet Now: $6.00) is resuming here for Phillip Stokes and I think is a leading chance. Her last run came over 1050m at Morphettville when a strong winner in a race that has turned out to be a strong form reference. Unbeaten fresh and has jumped out well to get ready.
3 Celtic Blast (Bet Now: $34.00) can be a big improver here on firmer footing. He has found bog tracks his past couple and has struggled to pick his feet up in the conditions. Track should be much better this time around for him and with sustained speed, he’ll take beating here at odds.
Race 2. (12:52) Spry Civil Construction (bm68) 2000m
The key to 3 Stan The Caddy (Bet Now: $2.45) is finding firmer footing so if he gets that here, I think he’s the one to beat. Ran over 1950m on the Parks track three weeks ago and in the run, he looked to be going sweetly, but when the button was pushed, the wheels were spinning. Back on a firmer deck, he can take this out.
Back to 2000m and back in grade/depth are two big ticks for 6 Mr Joobs (Bet Now: $4.80). He ran in a strong 78 two weeks ago over 2500m at Morphettville and just battled in horrendous conditions behind the in form Mahis Angel. Back to this sort of level of race, he’s a key threat.
2 Confusion (Bet Now: $10.00) certainly has the quality to beat these. He did run last at his last outing, but just pen that run. It was pretty much an 1800m barrier trial and given he was near the back of the field, he had no chance. Have to respect the stable bringing him over.
Race 3. (13:27) Jockey Celebration Day (bm86) 1400m
8 Struck By (Bet Now: $3.30) has to be given another chance. Resumed two weeks ago at Murray Bridge and to the eye, he was terrible, but he was four wide no cover for the trip and post race, he was found to have had poor respiratory and cardiac recovery. Market wanted to be with him fresh and he has class/quality, so he deserves another chance.
4 Arkham Knight (Bet Now: $8.50) should prove hard to beat here for the Macmillan camp. He comes through the Mildura Cup where he didn’t disgrace himself at all in defeat in what looked a strong country cup won by the Group l performed Sierra Sue. That reads well for this.
9 Debt Collector (Bet Now: $19.00) is an interesting runner. He is seven weeks between runs for Stuart Padman since racing over the mile here where he failed to come on and was a bit plain I thought behind Scottish Dancer, who did win at Caulfield next start, so the form reads well and fresh legs back to 1400m I do like.
Race 4. (14:07) In Memory Caitlin Forrest Mdn 1200m
13 Our Shinko (Bet Now: $7.50) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in from a betting perspective. Resumed over 1100m at Morphettville two weeks ago when back near last in the run and working home okay late behind Keep Reading. Fitter, up in trip, she’ll do me.
5 The Partisan (Bet Now: $3.50) is knocking on the door to break the maiden tag. Has finished runner up in all three career outings, the latest being three weeks ago at Gawler when on speed and for a few strides, looked the winner, but was nabbed late by De Thorn. Just needs luck from the draw to be around the mark.
6 Yowza (Bet Now: $17.00) hasn’t had much luck with gates in recent times but despite that, has been running some positive races. That changes here, with an inside gate to use, and I’d love to see him settle a pair or two closer in the run and if that eventuates, he’ll take beating.
Race 5. (14:47) Adrian Pederick Mp (bm68) 1200m
1 Echo Boomer (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Ryan Balfour trained mare that resumes. Hasn’t raced since May 29 when placing on the Parks track behind Not Usual Glorous, who at the time was unknown but has since gone on to better things. Has a good fresh record and against her own sex, she appeals.
3 Chosen Blonde (Bet Now: $8.00) is on the seven day back up for Chris Bieg after racing last Saturday at Morphettville where she went quick in front and stuck to the task pretty well in defeat behind Specialism. Placed in her lone run here, she has the right racing pattern to give herself every chance.
7 Romalette (Bet Now: $11.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with the O’Dea/Hoysted camp, this mare now finds herself with Will Clarken and we know the record the stable has with tried horses. Her QLD form, as a whole, is plain, but didn’t mind her first up run last Friday after getting back in the run. Dangerous if she’s within range.
Race 6. (15:27) Congrats Grant Young (bm60) 1600m
3 Fighter (Bet Now: $3.00) has taken a little while to find a winning groove but now that he has, he could well go on with it. That maiden win came on the Synthetic ground at Ballarat. He did everything possible to throw the race away but in the end, class got him home. Has run well at metro level before, so confident he can measure up here.
5 Melody Man (Bet Now: $2.10) is a Jake Stephens trained gelding that is racing really well at the moment. Ran over 1400m at Murray Bridge several weeks ago where I thought Pannell gave him a peach from off the speed and was there to win when presented. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow second to Just Folk. Two runs from a break have been at 1400m, so now up to 1600m I like.
14 Marina (Bet Now: $9.00) has been around the mark of late without winning. He ran last Wednesday at Balaklava where he attempted to lead throughout. Gave a solid kick from the front but just felt the pinch late when third to Exalted Fire. He’s an honest type that for mine is a first four threat.
Race 7. (16:07) In Memory Simone/melanie-bm60 1000m
2 Elegist (Bet Now: $7.50) is bursting to win another race for Henry Dwyer. He ran over 1000m at Sandown last time out when back near last in the run and working home strongly behind Brazen Bully, who ran well earlier in the week at Cranbourne, so the form reads well for this.
10 Miss Mucinni (Bet Now: $4.80) ran third to Mutinous in that Gawler race mentioned above. She was hard in the market when first up and despite seemingly getting every chance on speed, she was no match for the Doudle runner, who was dominant. Drawn wide should be okay given it’s one turn and has upside.
5 Lohn Ranger (Bet Now: $9.00) is a John Macmillan trained gelding that is three weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track where he did a little bit of work from a tricky gate but wasn’t too bad in defeat I thought behind Clap. He’s been around the mark of late and can threaten at odds.
Race 8. (16:45) Riverscape Food & Wine (bm68) 1200m
I keep waiting for 6 Crown Mint (Bet Now: $7.00) to show his true colours. I think he is talented, he showed that as a 3YO at various stages. Or, is he no good? I think we’ll get a decent guide to the answer of that question here because it looks a really winnable race for him at his best and he did trial very well earlier this week at Balaklava behind a Group l contender, Ironclad.
1 Aiguilette (Bet Now: $11.00) looks back on track I feel. Jury was out after his run two back behind La Richesse but freshened up and ran five weeks ago at Murray Bridge, chasing strongly from off the speed when a narrow second to the unbeaten Pindaric. Hard fit now, he appeals.
8 Rock Harbour (Bet Now: $14.00) is certainly capable of figuring in the finish. David Jolly trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since July 3, five weeks ago, where he got back to near last in the run and was never really a winning threat but his finale was more than sound behind He’s A Balter. Likes racing here and will be charging at the end.
Race 9. (17:20) Congrats Michael Hickmott-bm64 1400m
8 Lomax (Bet Now: $9.50) is bursting to win a race for Brian Mueller. He ran last Friday on the Parks track and worked home strongly from off the speed, just missing out on picking up Preakness. Did run well here the start prior and the form around him reads well for a winnable 64.
7 She’s A Karaka (Bet Now: $3.80) is a David Jolly trained mare that had her first run for the camp at Murray Bridge a few weeks back. Sat back, with cover, and looked to be going easily, before edging wider and gee she was strong late in winning and winning well. Think she only has to hold her form to be around the mark.
11 Carbone (Bet Now: $35.00) is a month between runs for Peter Moody since racing at Bordertown on testing ground where he settled off the speed and battled on pretty well when third to Action In Cairns. Clearly a harder assignment this time around but has run well previously and is a first four threat.
