8/5/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Caulfield

Nine races have been set down for Caulfield on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out twelve metres for the entire circuit.

The Maher/Eustace camp rarely get it wrong when they bring a juvenile to the races and that was the case a few weeks ago with 1 Generation (Bet Now: $2.00 TOP ODDS), who debuted at Morphettville and was on speed throughout, dashing clear late and holding a safe margin on the line. Harder here, but in the right camp and has improvement to come.

6 Spinning (Bet Now: $2.25 TOP ODDS) looks to have good ability. Debuted here two weeks ago and she worked home strongly. Loomed large to beat Gimme Par but that talented filly found when required and was just too good for Spinning. If there is natural improvement off that, which you assume would be, she’s had to beat.

8 Subversive (Bet Now: $41.00 TOP ODDS) is a daughter of Dissident for John Moloney that debuts. This girl has had a couple of jumpouts to get ready for start one, at Caulfield and Sandown respectively. Hasn’t exactly set the world on fire each time she has stepped out, but there has been enough to suggest she could sneak a first four spot in a race like this.

I’m going the way, just, of 2 Last Week (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS). Resumed over the mile here two weeks ago and while he was safely held, I really liked the way he finished his race off behind Mr Exclusive. Fitter and up in trip, especially with the claim, I think he’ll take a power of beating in a race like this.

8 Crimson Ace (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) would love a drop of rain to hit the track. I think the Busuttin/Young camp has this girl flying and she’d be a near good thing if this track had juice in it. Ran over 2000m on her home track at Cranbourne last time out and worked home strongly, just missing out on the win when second to She’s On Time. Hard to beat. Just would love rain.

4 Skelm (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) can be an improver at odds. The Stony Creek Cup winner from two back ran a few weeks ago over 2400m at Caulfield and worked to the line strongly late when third to Mohican Heights, who ran well on Anzac Day in a strong race, so the form reads well.

What a bludger of a race for the Mares. I’ll go the way of 6 Intellective (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) for Matty Williams. This mare was just under two months between and was 1600m back to 1300m when racing at Sandown last time. Had a suck run behind the speed and battled on pretty well without threatening. Fitter and up in trip, I think she’ll run well. But not a race I want to get involved in from a betting perspective.

2 Nerve Not Verve (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) might need one more run but she does have a touch of quality about her. Resumed several weeks back over 1400m here in what was a fast run race. Run off her legs early but picked up and was pretty good late I thought behind Blinder. Back to Mares grade, up in trip, she appeals.

8 Leale (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) can be a hard horse to follow and trust, but her best is good enough to measure up in a race like this. Resumed over 1300m on her home track at Cranbourne and she worked home well late without threatening. She’ll take good improvement off that and is a knockout chance.

8 Alburq (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) isn’t the most reliable horse going around but he does try hard and for the most part isn’t far away from the thick end of the prize. That was the case a few weeks ago at Caulfield when a close up fourth to Li’l Kontra, beaten just over a length. I think the booking of Prebble is such a big tick.

9 Pintoff (Bet Now: $2.25 TOP ODDS) is a talented four year old for Richard Cully that is second up here. Resumed on Stawell Cup Day when on speed and proving too strong late. Vosually, he was good, but just have to remember that on speed is gold at Stawerll, so perhaps flattered, but he gets the gear change of Jamie Kah first time.

11 Promotions (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) is a James Cummings trained gelding that resumes. This four year old hasn’t raced since Jan 2 over this track/distance when close up behind Evening Glory after getting back in the run. Recent jumpout was quite good and should do no work from the gate.

I’d love to see a positive steer aboard 1 All Too Huiying (Bet Now: $4.80). Ran at Flemington on Anzac Day where he was specked at a price to win. Things didn’t exactly fall into place for him behind Vassilator so I want to be forgiving of that effort. I think he races best when on speed, so hoping that eventuates.

3 Holbein (Bet Now: $2.05) is flying for the Richards camp. Problem is he doesn’t win. He led that Vassilator race mentioned above and gave a really good kick from the front, just tiring late and was bloused by the Colin Little galloper. Gets in so well after the claim and I think he’ll lead the top tip, and then they can dominate.

2 Fighting Teo (Bet Now: $26.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Kevin Kemp in Queensland, he now finds himself with Peter Moody. Resumed three weeks ago at Eagle Farm when back in the run and failing to come on behind Get Stuck In in what was a plain race. Not sure he wins, but one I can entertain for multiples because Moods can improve a tried horse.

I’m going the way of 1 Blazejowski (Bet Now: $4.20). Greg Eurell trained galloper that resumes, having not raced since the CF Orr when far from disgraced in defeat at Group l level behind Streets Of Avalon. Went very sharp in a recent Cranbourne jumpout win and he does have a bit on these re class.

6 Titan Blinders (Bet Now: $6.50) is a talented animal that resumes for the Corstens camp. He really came of age when racing during the Spring/Summer, winning a couple of races on the bounce, including on Ballarat Cup Day. Been given a good break and has jumped out well to get ready for his return.

7 Sam’s Image (Bet Now: $9.50) tends to race well on the fresh side so three weeks between runs I do like for him. Latest run came in the VOBIS Sprint when far from disgraced in defeat behind Laverrod. Gets a suck run from the inside gate and does have race fitness on his side over a couple of key rivals.

1 Horrifying (Bet Now: $3.80) looks the pony to bet on. Kav trains this three year old, who should have won at Flemington on Anzac Day, but threw the race away himself by wanting to lay in under pressure. I think he is one who could run well in a Queensland Derby and I am keen to see him up in trip.

3 Black Penn (Bet Now: $16.00) looked like he wanted 2000m four runs back, so not sure why he has remained at the mile since, but finally he gets to what I feel will be a suitable trip. He ran over 1700m on Anzac Day at Flemington and closed off pretty well without really threatening. I think the 2000m suits and is a key winning chance.

2 Redwood Shadow (Bet Now: $4.20) does look right on track for the Queensland Derby I feel. He was a real eye catcher at Flemington, working home with real purpose from near last in the run to finish third in an excellent. He’s come back in super order and fitter, up in trip, he appeals for sure.

I’d love to see a positive steer aboard 2 Mozzie Monster (Bet Now: $4.80) and not just flop out the back. Her racing pattern is quite plain but she has a decent engine under the hood. Just had too much to do last time out when a closing second to impressive winner Annavisto. Should get three wide cover and launch late.

1 Real Sensation (Bet Now: $6.00) is heading towards the Queensland Derby and he looks as if he’s heading there in good form. Freshened up and was a strong winner, just, over 1400m on Anzac Day at Flemington. He’s got loads of upside given the Derby is a little while off, but he does have quality.

8 Hengroen (Bet Now: $7.50) looks talented for Danny O’Brien. Son of Camelot that debuted at Pakenham and was an impressive winner from on speed. He was there to be run down late but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Jamie Kah to steer, he’ll press forward from the wide gate and give a sight.

The wraps are big for 4 Ayrton (Bet Now: $1.40) so it’s great to see him back at the races. In a season where the three year olds, as a whole, have been plain, he is potentially the best three year old in Australia. Created such an impression in his first prep and connections knocked back serious offers from Hong Kong to keep him here, with eyes potentially towards a Stradbroke. Went like a jet in a recent jumpout here and confident he can make it 3/3.

5 Curran (Bet Now: $6.50) is a very genuine three year old who just knows where the line is. He was chasing from the outset when off a freshen up here two weeks ago and he just kept finding under Cartwright, surging late to nab Yulong Command on the peg. Has that run bust him? Only time will tell.

2 Yulong Command (Bet Now: $12.00) will look to put himself on speed and look to break their hearts. Looked like he was home here two weeks back when those tactics were used. He just got the staggers big time late and was nabbed by Curran. He’ll look to lead throughout and pinch it, so he’ll give you a sight if you like him.
