Nine races have been set down for Rosehill this Saturday where it is Golden Gift Day, with the winner assured a start in the Golden Slipper. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:35) Shopper Media (bm78) 1100m
1 Invictus Salute (Bet Now: $3.90 TOP ODDS) is on top. She was kept pretty safe in betting when resuming over 1100m at Randwick four weeks ago where she was tucked in behind the speed and tried hard, but Agent Pippa controlled things in front and was too sharp, but this mare stuck to the task pretty well. Much better second up record and a big tick for her is the depth drop.
Just one soft trial leading in, but I think 4 Lucicello (Bet Now: $1.65 TOP ODDS) is a clear danger. Talented filly for Chris Waller that is first up, having not raced since the Up And Coming when running a game third to True Detective. Fast run 1100m looks right up her alley and if she’s within range on the turn, she has the finale to beat these.
2 And So It Goes (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) is a Gary White trained mare that resumes. This mare hasn’t raced since the feature sprint on Orange Cup Day when placing behind Absolute Ripper in what has turned out to be a pretty decent form race. She’s a mare who can sprint well fresh and her trial at Hawkesbury was solid enough.
Race 2. (13:15) Tab Highway Hcp (c3 1500m
I think 17 Southern Appeal (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) is the progressive galloper on the up and in a tricky Highway, I’ll lean his way. Thought there was a lot of merit in his win at Goulburn on Sunday given as the day panned out, before the rain hit, it was a very on pace day and those behind had little to no hope, so for this guy to make up the ground and win, with 57.5kg, tells me he’s handy, and with now just 51.5kg on his back from a good gate, he’ll do me.
7 Acquittal (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) is going well for Danny Williams. On the seven day back up after racing in the 1200m Highway here from last Saturday where he got snagged back from the wide gate and finished off nicely late behind Plonka. Can sit closer in the run from a good draw and I really like the booking of Jason Collett. Leading chance.
6 Normality (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) looks suited up to 1500m. Paul Messara trains this mare, who who was specked at odds when racing on her home track at Scone over 1400m last start and when challenged, she showed good ticker in the straight and was too good. If she can improve off that, I think she’s a live chance here.
Race 3. (13:55) Iron Jack (bm78) 2400m
Convinced that 3 Re Edit (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) is going well and back to a weak 78, I think she can win. She comes through the Tatts Cup at Randwick where she was in a decent spot and looked to be going easily but Attention Run was all over the shop under pressure and crashed into Re Edit, who was lucky to stay on her feet. If she runs to her best, she wins.
4 Angel Of Heaven (Bet Now: $2.25 TOP ODDS) is a little query at 2400m but convinced she’s going well for Kris Lees. The tempo was clearly against her last time out over 2000m at Randwick but she didn’t stop chasing and was good in defeat behind an in form Maid Of Ore. Racing as if further will suit but as a 3YO, she struggled. That’s the only knock.
8 Duchess Of Lennox… (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) what has happened to her. I thought she would be a serious contender for a race like the Matriarch at Flemington, but instead she’s out of form and finds herself in a 78 at Rosehill. If you go off her 3YO efforts, she wins this and wins comfortably, but her last couple have been terrible. One more chance.
Race 4. (14:35) Ranvet (bm78) 1800m
3 Mangione (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) has a fair amount of upside in the tank I suspect and up to 1800m on his home track, happy to be in his corner. He didn’t appear 100% happy around Gosford last time out over the mile but once he balanced up in the straight, he knuckled down strongly to get the job done. Has room for improvement and finds a winnable race.
9 Pressure (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is a very interesting runner. Matt Cumani trains this mare, who was a sharp first up winner at Ballarat before racing at the mile again at Seymour when on speed and just didn’t have the change up speed to go with them late and was looking like a mare that wants further, which she gets here, and with the claim for Dolan, she’s hard to beat.
10 California Longbow (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is a key chance. He’s been quite good in two runs back from a break. Could make a case he should have won first up at Kembla behind Rancho Notorious before going to the mile at Warwick Farm where he looked not 100% happy on the tight track but worked home well enough late in the piece. Up to 1800m and third up on a bigger track, he looks ready.
Race 5. (15:15) The Country Classic 2000m
I’m keen each way on 11 Black Wand (Bet Now: $13.00). He is third up for Kurt Goldman with this race being the primary focus. I want to be forgiving of his Highway run last time. Just had to do a bit of work in the run to slot in and then from the home turn onwards, it was a bit of an ugly watch. Gets good weight relief and from the gate, he should get run of the race.
17 Emanuela (Bet Now: $5.00) is a fascinating runner. Paul Messara trains this mare, who steps up to 2000m, having not raced since October 12 over the mile at Randwick when doing work on speed and giving a very strong kick under Nash to win. Tick over trial at Scone was good, right down in the weights and she has speed in the legs.
Little bit concerned with the 60kg, but 2 Ready For Danger (Bet Now: $6.00) certainly has the class factor. He had been going really well for Matty Dunn without winning but that all changed last time out at Eagle Farm over 1800m, ridden positively by Jim Byrne and he was just far too good for his rivals. Up to 2000, he’s hard to beat.
Race 6. (15:55) Golden Gift 1100m
Haven’t seen much of the Criterion progeny race yet this season but really keen to see 7 Blaze A Trail (Bet Now: $5.00) debut for Team Snowden. This colt has had two trials in readiness for his debut and gee he has looked outstanding each time he has stepped out, winning both trials, going about his business like a good horse and has run good time each trial. He could blow this field away. Watch the market.
11 Dame Giselle (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Team Snowden trained filly that had trialled well leading up to her debut at Randwick a fortnight back when near the speed under Atkins and looked to travel well, giving a really good lick and looking home, only to be nabbed near the peg by See You Soon. Should get a lovely run from the gate and be hard to hold out.
I think you have to believe what you saw when it came to the debut win of 10 See You Soon (Bet Now: $8.50) two weeks ago at Randwick. Gee she unleashed a powerful finishing burst and got up to record a big win at start one. Randwick 1000m and Rosehill 1100m race shapes are totally different beasts, but she looks talented.
Race 7. (16:40) Hot Danish Stakes 1400m
13 Vinicunca (Bet Now: $7.50) is the one for me. The WaterBott stable trains this filly, who took on the older mares first up in the Alinghi where she was heavily backed but had no luck at all in the straight when seemingly bolting for a run and was a definite unlucky runner behind Humma Humma. I hope they let her go near the speed and roll, which is what she did when winning during Cup Week last year.
The barrier does suit 10 Reelem In Ruby (Bet Now: $4.40) and she’s hard to beat here. Comes out of the Nivison where she was given a peach sit just off the pace and loomed to win but Madam Rouge just packed too many punches and was too good. From the inside barrier, she can sit in the first half a dozen, stalk and sprint. Up to 1400m also a tick.
Third up from a break, 8 Ready To Prophet (Bet Now: $6.50) should be hard fit now. Disappointing resumption behind Mizzy before going to the Nivison when attempting to lead all the way and giving a really good kick, but Madam Rouge was just a touch too good. Looks like 1400m suits, lands on speed and will give her all.
Race 8. (17:20) Schweppes (bm78) 1100m
I’m with 3 Echo Jet (Bet Now: $7.50) for Bjorn Baker. This guy is first up, having not raced since June 1 here when placing behind Kapajack, who has since measure up in Stakes company and run well. That form just reads super, then go back prior, he was four lengths off Signore Fox and beat Reelem In Ruby. Two trials have been super and for mine has had a decent enough grounding for a first up win.
5 Trumbull (Bet Now: $2.50) looks the most likely but gee he’s getting short for a horse who has been awful to begin his races at his past two, the first 100m or so will determine his chances, because if he flops out like he has done recently, at the Rosehill 1100m on a dry deck, he’ll struggle, but he was beaten by a handy one in Appian Way at Warwick Farm last time and his late splits were great. But late splits mean nothing if you can’t do anything decent early.
10 Sanctioned (Bet Now: $17.00) is a son of Teofilo for David Pfieffer that resumes. This bloke has an awful winning strike rate but bear in mind throughout his career, he has contested much stronger races than this. He certainly has got the talent to figure in the finish among this lot and his two trials leading in have been quite good to the eye, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 9. (18:00) Eden Brae Homes (bm78) 1400m
9 High Shine (Bet Now: $5.00) is on top for me. Really like this John Sargent trained mare, who paraded quite poorly prior her resumption at Warwick Farm but despite that, I thought she was quite good in defeat when second to Vitesse, with that mare getting the soft run on speed and just proved too good for them. High Shine has plenty of upside and bigger track is a big tick.
Back to 1400m should suit the Chris Waller trained 7 Bergen (Bet Now: $4.80). Tough resumption at Warwick Farm when a narrow second to Sakura before going to the Randwick 1500m when on speed and just feeling the pinch late behind Romani Girl, with Sure Knee coming out of that race and bolting up on Tuesday at Flemington. He’s hard to beat here now he’s hard fit.
6 Matowi (Bet Now: $17.00) is better suited over a bit further but keen to see how he goes fresh. This bloke had a really good prep when last in work, with the key to him being dry ground and getting out to a trip, so I think 1400m will be too short for him here, but he can sprint well fresh and I think he’s one for multiples.
